Can Tooth Decay Be Reversed?
Today, we're talking about cavities – the #1 preventable childhood disease affecting 90% of adults aged 20 and older. Cavities are caused by bacteria in the mouth that produce acids that attack the teeth and cause demineralization. But the good news is that cavities can be prevented with proper oral hygiene and reduced intake of sugary foods and drinks. And if caught early, cavities can even be reversed or arrested through fluoride treatments or other remineralization techniques. Join us as we delve into the causes and prevention of cavities, and learn how to keep your teeth healthy and strong. Regular visits to the dentist are also an important part of cavity prevention. Your dentist can check your teeth for signs of cavities and recommend treatments if needed. They can also provide professional cleanings, which help remove plaque from hard-to-reach areas that you may miss with brushing and flossing alone. Learn more about the cause of cavities and how you can help prevent them. To explain how to stop cavities that have already started to develop, we can turn to Westin A. Price, a well-known dentist of the 20th century. Apoptosis
Have you heard about Apoptosis? Are you aware of this very important function that happens in our bodies at the very cellular level, and the impact it has on your health? Apoptosis is a form of programmed cell death that occurs naturally in our bodies. It helps keep our cells healthy and functioning, allowing them to live longer and work more efficiently. When apoptosis isn’t working properly, it can cause serious health problems, such as cancer and other diseases. Most people don't know this, but at the cellular level of our body, there is something called the rule of the 3 Rs. What are the 3 Rs? REPAIR REPLACE REJUVENATE. These are all a result of proper apoptosis. But what's more important to know is how to support the process so that it works even better. Today I'm going to discuss three things about apoptosis and its importance in self-care. It might sound complicated at first, but it's really not that difficult to understand when you think about it. And besides, you don't need to be an expert on how it works in order for it still take place effectively within your own body! I found supplements to help support apoptosis in my body. It is plant-based and the only product I have found that does not give me side effects. Key Takeaways-What is apoptosis?-How apoptosis impacts one's health-How can one support apoptosis to be functioning for optimal health-Cell death, particularly apoptosis, is probably one of the most widely-studied subjects among cell biologists

Dental Insurance
My insurance was billed over $150,000.00 for my cancer and it drained my health savings account to pay my deductible and out-of-pocket expenses to treat my cancer. Insurance coverage for dental care is often limited, and typically only covers treating existing issues rather than preventive measures. As a result, many Americans are walking around with an undetected infection in their mouth due to a lack of resources and financial concerns. This can lead to advanced stages of dental disease before the symptoms become noticeable. These findings highlight the need for more comprehensive coverage of dental care. In this episode, we will talk more about Dental Insurance and your Oral Health. Insurance has become a financial gamble for many Americans, with taxes and insurance premiums taking up most of their income. This can lead to people feeling unable to utilize their coverage because of deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses. The current system is broken, causing people to struggle financially just to maintain their health. Key Takeaways:-When you have an infection in your mouth you generally do not feel pain until the disease has progressed.-85% of our population has some form of gum disease and dental insurance does not even have a code to cover those cleanings.-Disease starts with how you breathe and what you put in your mouth.-Doctors will not make you healthy. Drugs will not fix the root cause they may mask the pain or manage the symptoms. The choices you make will determine your fate, good or bad.

Where is Your Tongue
Have you ever really given much thought about your tongue? What is its function? Or where the tongue is resting in your mouth at any given moment? In this episode, we will talk about the tongue and the importance of ensuring it is correctly postured. Although it seems like a small thing, the position of your tongue at rest really does matter. When it’s not in the ideal position, it can lead to minor issues as well as other more serious health concerns. Awareness is key. Try to get a better sense of your oral posture throughout the day. Where is your tongue usually situated? Is it pressing against your front teeth or lying passively on the floor of your mouth? While monitoring your tongue’s position, also take note of your breathing. Are your lips frequently open? If so, you’re probably breathing through your mouth, and this is often a sign of poor tongue posture. There are also simple exercises you can do to get into better habits and “train” your tongue to sit in the right place, and these may be enough. Just make sure not to ignore it, because it can cause problems over time. If your tongue or your child’s tongue is resting down, you can not touch the roof of your mouth with your tongue when opened as wide as you can or you have any symptoms or concerns about open mouth posture or mouth breathing, give us a call at 815-922-1288. Key Takeaways: -The tongue is not just one muscle, it’s a conglomeration of eight separate muscles-What Orofacial Myology is-Why tongue position matters and what to do about it-The risks of bad tongue posture-Correcting a poorly postured tongue

6 Things We Need To Survive and Thrive
As we discussed last week, our breath profoundly impacts every area of our life. We start and finish life with a breath. However, there are other basic needs that play a role in keeping us alive and healthy. Without attending to these needs, we cannot focus on anything else. In this episode, we will look closely at the 6 things we need to survive and thrive. The truth is, that there are only five basic needs; Oxygen Water, Nutrients, Sleep, and Shelter. In order to focus on anything else in life, we must first attend to these basic needs. Once one of the needs is met, we can move on to the next level of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. I think many of us feel our basic needs are being met. Until we get sick or our health is challenged. Many of us are getting a say about our bodies and we are being left to deal with the consequences of our choices. I think many people realize to be grateful for what they have. I realized I had all of the material things I needed and my health and my family are what mattered most. What do you want? Is what you are doing making you happy? If not you may want to take a look at where you are and where you want to be and see if the choices you are making now are getting you closer or farther from that goal. Key Takeaways: -Most of our basic needs are provided by our parents until we are old enough to fend for ourselves.-There are 6 things we all need as humans need to survive and thrive.-Experts do not recommend plain water for infants before 6 months.-Children over 12 months of age should be encouraged to drink water.-You lose eight to 12 cups of water daily through breathing, perspiring, urination, and bowel movements.-It's essential to replenish your body's water supply.-An adult person can survive 3 weeks without food.-Sleep is essential for building memory, and skills, feeling more alert, as well as repairing our body.-The effects of sleep deprivation on physical health.

The Way We Breathe Affects Everything
Breathing is medicine with no side effects and the way we breathe affects everything. For certain things, we know there is a cycle of time. Everything in nature has a beginning and an end. Self-care and a higher level of awareness begin and end with breathing and should start with how you oxygenate your body, the critical self-talk, the connection you have with yourself, and what you choose to do with your body. Breathing is something we rarely think about because our bodies do it for us. Most people don't think about breathing until they have an illness that makes it difficult to breathe my intention is to bring greater awareness to conscious breathing and why conscious breathing is critical for optimal health. Key Takeaways:-If you breathe through your mouth a lot you may feel light-headed.-If your body tends to default to fight-or-flight mode, deep breathing can give you instant relief.-Good health comes from harnessing the potential energy to make better, more mindful, informed choices and decisions.-Be mindful about how you breathe, and be aware and focus on your emotions so you can create peace in your mind. Perception is anything.-Taking a slow and intentional breath is the fastest way to activate the body’s relaxation response.

Myobrace
Last week we talked about Myo Munchee, an appliance you can purchase online to help build stronger muscles. Today we are going to talk about another device that is an innovative dental appliance. This amazing advance in early treatment can save time, money, and lives. I recently attended a lecture by Dr Marianna Evans, an orthodontist / Periodontist who discussed how we should be looking at our kids as soon as they are born and start evaluating the form, structure, and function of their mouths. Myobrace like a munchee starts with an infant trainer that allows a child to exercise their natural chew impulse. More importantly, it allows the child to breathe through their nose while correcting the position of the tongue and improving swallowing which guides correct jaw growth and breathing patterns. Myofunctional training and use of a MyoBrace trainer appliance both before and after “traditional” orthodontics is completed and the braces come-off is recommended and is the best way to guard against relapse after treatment. Key Takeaways:-Treatment goals heavily depend on a patient's compliance, willingness and ability to change habits. Starting early increases the chance for optimal results.-Many factors contribute to a beautiful smile.-In a growing child, what they do with their mouth and tongue will determine how their teeth, face, jaws and most importantly airways grow.-Myofunctional therapy is looking at poor muscle function and correcting it. The younger it is corrected, the fewer problems later in life.-What Myobrace treatment does

Can Braces Open An Airway?
Can braces open an airway? The answer is yes, but there are some things you should know about it. First of all, we need to understand that the airway is essential for our survival. It allows us to breathe properly, which is vital for our body's health. In addition, normal well-developed airways assure normal breathing through the nose with your mouth closed. Nasal Breathing is essential because it's known to be good for health and reduces the risk of infections and diseases. Research has shown that the air you breathe through your nose is different for the body and how the body processes it than the air you breathe through your mouth. It's safe to say that having a healthy airway can have positive effects on your overall health and well-being! Key Takeaways: -Start screening kids for jaw deficiencies and sleep apnea shortly after birth.-The relationship between cranial facial development and airway development.-Orthodontist look beyond just the teeth and the crookedness. They look at the nose, throat, tongue muscles, face, and neck to optimize airway passages.-Many modern diseases are now better understood when we view the evolutionary perspective.-Cranial facial growth is 80 to 90%, complete by the age of 12. So most of the formation or deformation occurs before that age.

What Is Airway Orthodontics
Have you heard about the term airway orthodontics? Knowing more about this topic will help us and our kids as they grow. I am bringing awareness to topics like this one and more that will change the way we look at our kid's health, growth, and development, starting with their mouth and the way they breathe at an earlier age.
Identifying mouth breathing and younger people is going to help improve the way that their jaw and teeth grow. If it's left too long, and it becomes chronic, it requires intervention to correct the problem. Starting at an earlier age will create solid habits and routines that will impact good facial growth and development and teeth structure. Also, the food that we're eating plays a huge role in the development of our jaws according to Dr. Boyd, a pediatric orthodontist. Our mouth is a warning sign of what could happen or what is happening to our body.
Key Takeaways:
-The role of oxygen in our body
-Most babies can't breathe through their mouths until they're three months old
-The position of the tongue is crucial for the growth, development, and function of our body
-Dysfunctional breathing and poor tongue posture actually create risk factors for critical illnesses
-Both genetics and environment play a factor in what's happening to how our faces develop and how we're breathing out

But we've been missing a key piece of the trifecta, which is how we breathe. Being able to breathe is one of the most important functions we have. Airway dysfunction is one of the many things that are being overlooked in our kids. As a precursor for disease, ADHD, and behavioral problems, we have an epidemic of breathing disorders and CPAP machines being given to adults. Now, it's important to bring awareness to patients to look for signs in our children as they grow up, so they don't become adults that need CPAP machines or are suffering from chronic disease issues due to problems related to airway and sleep-disordered breathing. Today we're going to talk about the importance of an airway-centric health assessment. You Own It!
You’re only given one body and it’s up to you to take care of it! Own It! is a reminder for everyone to be proactive about their own health. People usually look at living healthy as a series of sacrifices they need to make in life, including dieting and exercise, instead of identifying what lights them up about feeling good every day, and what they can do to accomplish that goal. When you own it, you realize that you only get one body. Americans now have a much shorter life expectancy compared to other high-income countries, according to the CDC. The recent data reveals that people in the US can expect to live an average of 78 years. Although we're living longer, we're not living healthier. It's estimated about 13% of our lives are dealing with some type of illness that keeps us visiting doctors instead of making memories with our families.
