Episode 101: Networking is Recruiting
On this episode of the Ty Brady Way, Ty talks about his experiences with recruiting, why he does it and how he does it.
Ty starts with the questions of how he was recruited. He briefly touches on how he lost everything and how he worked 17 different jobs from 2008-2009. Finally he landed a job at a fencing company. One day he got a lead and met the guy to discuss his fencing, but when he was leaving, the clients wife told him to speak to her husband about getting into insurance. Two days later he met with the regional manager and decided to go for it. Ty did leave after just under a year, but he then checked out Kellogg Insurance
Ty then talks about why he recruits and he talks about something his mentor Ron Kellogg told him, “the day you stop recruiting, the day your business goes backward”. He was also always told to “talk where your feet are”, as well as “it’s about duplicating yourself”. Ty goes with his gut rather than the dollars and cents when he’s recruiting
Finally, Ty talks about how he recruits. He uses all forms of advertising recruit. The aim is to tell people who he is and how he got there. It’s people who have been watching Ty which come onboard. Ty also says his wife is his greatest recruiter and he brags about him to the people around them. Ty also does speaking engagements, so he talks to high schools or local communities, again trying to work with the people around him

Episode 91: Closing/ Asking for the sale
On this episode of The Ty Brady Way, Ty discusses closing and asking for the sale. Ty shares a conversation he recently had with an agent who was meeting with consumers multiple times and they kept saying the famous “I’ll think about it” when it came to closing. Ty shares his advice on how you should ask for the sale. The best ways to follow through with your sales is to say these phrases once your presentation is finished:
- In order to move forward I just need a driver’s license and your medicard
- To finish up I just need your signature here
Ty states that you should assume the close and begin filling out the application. Ty speaks about how when a consumer hesitates to follow through with you it’s usually because there is something unresolved in their minds. You need to learn to read your consumers so that you can give them what they need. When a consumer is reluctant you should always go back to the product and what value it will add to their lives. Ty speaks about how agents often miss closing cues. When a consumers asks how do they sign up you should immediately stop giving them information about the product and go straight to following with a close. The consumer had heard enough and has already made a decision to follow through with you so you do not need to keep selling the product to them. Agents also sometimes complete a great presentation but back out of asking for the sale. Ty states that you won’t get an answer if you don’t ask and if you’re afraid to ask then you are in the wrong business or need to get over your fears. Ty encourages you to remember that the greatest opportunities are often on the other side of fear. Before finishing on a personal story surrounding closing and some lessons he learned when being trained is that sometimes mimicking your consumers behaviour is the way to go – if they’re talking slow, you speak slowly.

Episode 90: The Five Languages
Have you heard of the love languages? Well, on this episode of The Ty Brady Way Podcast, Ty takes us through the five money languages. Ty shares the importance of understanding the meaning of these five money languages. Ty also explains how understanding them can help improve not only our businesses, but our relationships and communication with our business partners and agents. The five money languages consist of the following:
1. The Saver
2. The Spender
3. The Risk Taker
4. The Security Seeker
5. The Flyer
Ty describes The Saver as someone who believes they can save their way to profitability. They’re the type of people who you ask to lunch and they decline the offer or bring their own lunch from home. These people want to work and save as much as possible so that they can enjoy their lives in retirement. Ty states that The Spender is someone who can spend their money as quick as they get it. They find spending is a way to validate their success and they tend to not think about their bills or future down the road.
Ty explains the risk taker as being entrepreneurs. They are always going for broke and are big dream chasers. They’re willing to mortgage out everything they own trying to reach more success. Ty describes the security seeker as being someone like himself – there’s never enough money in the bank! The final love language, The Flyer, can be identified as the person who lives pay check to pay check, they enjoy keeping up with the jones’. They don’t have savings and they’re always chasing money.
Ty speaks about how our money languages can change throughout different periods of our lives and businesses. Ty mentions that there is not greater investment than investing in yourself and it doesn’t matter what money language you have once you know how to use it!
Ty encourages you to take some time to read articles and books about the five money languages so that you can gain a deeper understanding of them and help identify what money language you, your partner and the five people you work closest with have.

Episode 88: Lead Types
On this episode of the Ty Brady Way, Ty talks to us about the importance of lead generation and how there’s no better investment you can do.
The first type of lead generation Ty talks to us about is postage or direct mail. Ty uses a 3rd part vendor for this. He keeps his advertisements generic, with lots of colour. He has a picture to show who he is and shares he is a local agent there to help them out. Ty targets the dental, vision and hearing mailer and engages with the 64 ½ - 68 demographic
His second type of lead generation is social media, something he is actively learning. Again, he uses a 3rd party which is charged at a cost per lead. He also targets the dental vision and hearing. He asks people if they have a concern or if they are getting the coverage they want. He also asks some did you know questions, getting them to engage.
The 3rd type of lead generation is referral partner. Ty started networking with dentists and gives them information about plans they didn’t know about, and after he answers all their questions, he leaves them with business cards, pamphlets and a website so as patients who can’t afford treatments can be referred and everyone wins in the end. He also talks about how CPA’s are great as he get in front of people by asking about their ERMA taxes.
The final type of lead generation is using your current clients. You need to go back to the people you’ve already done business with as they trust you. You can ask them for referrals or ask them how you can help them. Ty recommends memorising a little elevator pitch, keeping it short and simple to explain what you do!
