The old fashioned real estate business model has been around for nearly 100 years. It typically comes in two forms: the franchise model and the corporate-owned model. In both of these models, some revenue goes to an out-of-town company, where they break it up into regions and those regions go out and sell franchises. Dan Lesniak and his wife Keri Shull gave up their independent brokerage, one of the biggest in the DC metro area, and joined eXp Realty. Since they made that move,, real estate agents all across the country ask them why they did it. In 2023, eXp Realty has already given back a quarter of a billion dollars, through revenue share and stock awards, to the agents that helped grow the company. And now, the biggest changes ever were just announced for the eXp Realty Revenue Share Plan. It used to be that you needed to jump up from 25 to 40 agents to get access to the seventh level of their revenue share program, which for most people over time will be the biggest level. However, eXp just dropped that requirement from 40 to 30 agents. This is huge. Dan Lesniak began his real estate career with a Century 21 brokerage. During his first year as a real estate agent, he sold over $22 million in properties, a record-setting first year in the business. He realized that he didn’t achieve this success because of his relationship to Century 21. They did not provide the leads. They were not permitting him to brand himself or to offer additional services for his clients. And they were keeping too much of his commission. That’s why he left. While it might have seemed like a bold move at the time, it was the smartest one he made. His real estate career elevated tremendously after that. He was able to keep more of his profits and build a brand around himself, not his brokerage. Keller Williams vs. eXp Realty
On this episode of the HyperFast Agent podcast, host Dan Lesniak explains the similarities and differences between Keller Williams and eXp Realty. Both of these companies revolutionized the real estate industry and introduced a lower cost of housing your real estate business. Both of these companies have put a large focus on education, including providing training and educational resources for agents and team leaders. Both companies also give agents the freedom to brand themselves and not necessarily the brokerage. Dan believes Keller Williams is the most innovative brokerage in the old model system. However, eXp is utilizing technology in a new way and goes well beyond Keller Williams in offering new innovations that include a revenue share system (opposed to a profit share system). eXp also has the most transparency of any company, especially when it comes to revenue share. Agents at eXp also tend to earn a lot more profit in the revenue share model versus the profit sharing model at Keller Williams.

Another Successful Agent Moves to eXp Realty
Jonathan Chvala is a real estate agent based in the Washington DC metro area. In his first year in real estate he closed 35 deals valued at over $22 million combined. He built his own team which sold more that $50 million in properties in their first year, 2022.
