Welcome to the Run Eat Drink Podcast! This is the podcast where we embark on exciting adventures, combining our love for running, delicious food, and tasty beverages. Whether you’re an elite runner aiming for victory or just starting your “Couch to 5K” journey, we’ve got something for you. Let’s dive into the three pillars of our show:Accomplish (Run): Accomplishment is deeply personal. Are you eyeing a race series win, planning your next “run-cation,” or hoping to set a personal record in your next half-marathon? Each week, we feature fantastic destination races from around the country. Discover scenic courses, learn about the charities they support, and get inspired to lace up those running shoes. And when we’re not on the road, we share interviews, training tips, and insights from our own running journey.Explore (Eat): Running and traveling go hand in hand. As we explore new places, we also explore local cuisine. We seek out hidden gems—the eateries that locals rave about. Bold flavors, interesting dishes, and passion for food—that’s what we’re after. After each race, join us as we wander the city streets, discovering post-race refueling spots. Whether it’s a gastropub, a food truck, or a cozy café, we’ve got dining options to satisfy your cravings.Indulge (Drink): When the running is done, it’s time to unwind. We raise our glasses to celebrate our accomplishments. Local breweries, coffee shops, speakeasies, and watering holes—these are our destinations. From craft beers to artisanal cocktails, we explore the beverage scene. Cheers to a well-deserved drink after crossing the finish line!Join us on this journey of accomplishment, exploration, and indulgence. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a curious foodie, there’s a place for you at the Run Eat Drink Podcast.
RED Episode #139: Friendly Neighborhood Run 5K and Splitsville in Orlando
Send us a textRUNIt’s time to recap a Friendly Neighborhood Run from Medal Chasers. This 5K supports the Pinky Swear Foundation. This foundation helps kids fighting cancer and their families with financial and emotional support. The weather was humid, but the setting we chose for this virtual race gave us the chance to run at Epcot around the World Showcase. We decided to walk it and enjoy people watching and seeing the beautiful view of the water around the showcase. The medal is a spiderweb and Spider-Man is on a spinner, upside down, and getting ready to cast a web. It was a great way to get some miles in away from home.We talked during this episode about some of the components of our training program with America’s coach and Olympian, Jeff Galloway. Find. out more about his run-walk-run training at www.JeffGalloway.com.EATWe are so happy that Splitsville is open again in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It is the best place for sushi at Disney Springs. We are happy to see these menu items return. The Fantasy Roll is a beautiful roll that showcases salmon, shrimp, and tuna with a kimchee ponzu sauce. The Super Tuna is Ahi, tempura shrimp, cream cheese, tempura flakes, and spicy mayo. The standout was our waiter’s recommendation, Grilled avocado, and Ahi tuna with that kimchee ponzu sauce. His name was Cody and his new addition to this dish, that we have had before, was to add a spicy krab mix. So good!DRINK Cody also recommended a frozen drink from the menu at Splitsville called Swampwater. With 151 Rum, this drink could sneak up on you because the lemonade and blue raspberry that create the green swampy color make it sweet and tart but not alcoholic in flavor. We also got the Old Fashioned on their menu and with Old Forrester bourbon, it does not disappoint and is a perfectly balanced cocktail. RED Quick Bite #98 Patron Meg Brower’s Race Recap Wallis Sands Half Marathon LIVE!
Send us a textFrom Our Patron, Meg Brower- A Wallis Sands Half Marathon Race Recap from October 2020This week, we have another race recap from a live and in-person race. It is from our patron, Meg Brower! Thank you for sending this in and letting us accomplish, explore, and indulge along with you! We look forward to a time when we can travel, see your part of the country, and run with you! Meg was also kind enough to send us some race recommendations for New Hampshire, so we can all be prepared when in-person races return to us!New England Race Recommendations from Meg:If you are interested in running a race up in the NH seacoast Area these would be my recommendations once races come back in person:Wallis Sands Half Marathon in Rye, NH, usually in MaySmuttynose Rockfest Half Marathon in Hampton, NH usually the first weekend in October (This one has entry to a free concert of local bands, a small lobster roll, and chowder at the finish. In addition to your half zip race shirt and medal. They also have a 5k distance option usually)Saunders 10k Rye, NH 3rd Thursday night in AugustGreat Island 5k ( Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend) New Castle, NHThat all being said, if you are only ever going to do one New England Race, I would do the Falmouth Road Race in Falmouth, MA. It is the MOST scenic race I have ever run. It is all along the ocean, all 7 miles. It starts in Woods Hole, MA, and ends in Falmouth, MA. It’s a point to point course. Dave McGivallry (Boston Marathon Race Director) is the race director for this one as well. I have run this race 8 times as my Aunt has a home in Falmouth, MA. It is the 3rd Sunday in August. It is a lottery only race. Totally worth it, though. Also, the Boston BAA 5K, which is the Saturday before the Marathon, is a great one too but more big city, not ocean scenic. You may have to choose between this one and Star Wars Weekend at Walt Disney World, though!THAT’S A WRAP!Have you participated in a live and in-person race recently? Share a recap with the rest of the Runcation Nation and us. It is a great way to travel and run virtually until we can all run together safely again! RED Episode #138: RED Episode #138: Oops, We Did It Again... Live!
Send us a textRUNOops, we did it again! Actually, we did another live race on purpose! 2020 LCEC Goblin Gallop 5k was a local race at Jaycee Park in Cape Coral to benefit the United Way. It was early morning by the water and we got to see the sunrise. There was a breeze, too! It was a flat course with one water stop and a medal for all finishers that was shaped like a pumpkin! We dressed up as our favorite superheroes to run the race. So happy that we got to run it! We were out there to enjoy it and enjoy it we did. Thanks to Rachel at The Run Shoppe and everyone at 3D Racing who worked to put this fun race together!EATWe had a great dinner at the Fish Tale Grill to celebrate. It is stone crab season! It’s been a while since we had a great seafood dinner and this one came to play! We split a Captain’s platter with shrimp cocktail, snow crab, stone crab, king crab, lobster tail, and clams plus so much more! It came with cocktail sauce, drawn butter, and a creamy mustard dip. The meat was briny and juicy. The sauces complemented the meats. We ordered an extra side of stone crab because... tis’ the season!DRINK It was National American Beer Day last week! We decided to celebrate with some classic American beers on a live video with our Runcation Nation. This week, we had our friends from our local taproom and package store, No. 3 Craft Brews, select a customized six-pack of American brews for us. We break down two of them on the show this week. Sierra Nevada’s Dankful IPA was an IPA that we were fans of and that supports nonprofits doing good work in communities. DuClaw Brewing Company has a beer that brings us back to childhood and gave us a great sour that Dana loved called Sour Me Unicorn Farts. A review of all six will be available for our patrons, too! RED Episode #137: I Can Run All Day 10K and Baseline Tap House Bites & Brews
Send us a textRUNWhen we ran at Walt Disney World earlier this month, we completed another in the virtual race series from Medal Chasers called the I Can Run All Day 10K. This race benefits Team RWB (Red White and Blue). Its mission is to connect Veterans to their communities through physical and social activities. We ran it at Disney Springs. The medal is a great one featuring a spinner of Captain America’s shield. We are so happy to bring the race to Disney while RunDisney events have gone virtual for 2020. EATBaseline Tap House is a great place to go for beer, cocktails, and small plates. The vibe is so great. It’s a tiny place next to the Sci-Fi Drive-In Theatre in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The California Cheese and Charcuterie Plate is an amazing combination of cheese, meat, fruit, and toasted baguettes. Coffee-rubbed Rib-Eye Beef Puff with Olive Salad is so tasty! These two plates were so tasty. We would have them again and again. Small bites are great to share on a hot day in a theme park. A bit of delicious food that won’t weigh you down, so you can continue to enjoy the theme park and attractions after your meal. DRINK It’s National American Beer Day! We have to celebrate by talking about a couple of beers that we had a Baseline Tap House brewed in the USA! Golden Road 329 Lager at ABV 4.8% was light-bodied, refreshing, and great for hot Florida weather. It was not bitter or hoppy. It had a slight bread and malt flavor and was a light yellow color. We also had Golden Road Hefeweizen at 5% ABV. It had notes of orange and coriander without any bitterness. This place sports great beer and a laid-back atmosphere, plus a great playlist full of covers of popular songs. Come hang out, relax, and cool off after a day at Hollywood Studios. We just wish it was open later so we could stay longer!BONUS FOR THE RUNCATION NATIONDon’t forget Expedition Roasters is offering a brand new discount code for the Runcation Nation! RED Episode #136: @#$% it! We did it LIVE!
Send us a textRUNWe ran the Freedom 5K last weekend. It was a live and in-person race! We were so excited that we did an Instagram live throughout the whole race once we got started. It was a flat course, which is unusual for this race as it is usually held for 4th of July and normally we run over a huge bridge at sunrise to see a beautiful view of the Caloosahatchee River. It was a great race that benefitted Brotherhood of Heroes and Special Operations Communicators Association, both organizations tied to helping support Veterans and first responders. There was a goodie bag. There was a t-shirt. Aimee even came away with 2nd place in her age group! We commend the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce and Donna Germain for pulling off this race after months of delays and coming together to make runners so excited. Even those in the neighborhood where we ran came out of their houses to cheer us on and offer us water. Thanks to everyone in our community who made this happen!EATWe had a fantastic brunch after the race at Gather in our hometown. It is a flashback because we covered their fantastic brunch right after this race in 2018 in Episode 33 of our show. We happened to come back on the 3rd anniversary of the opening of this great restaurant on the water. You can sit inside and it is such a colorful environment or outside by the water and enjoy the fantastic and very Florida view! Did we mention the brunch? Aimee had the Croque Madame. Ham, gruyere cheese between two pieces of perfectly buttered and pan-seared bread, an over-easy egg, and mornay sauce that just made this a must-have brunch item. Dana had the Lobster Cake Benedict. It was the perfect combo of lobster and cake with a poached egg and a hollandaise that Dana just raved about. Both dishes were served with house potatoes and at reasonable prices. Come to the Cape and have brunch with us here! You will love it!DRINK We had great cocktails from Duval Street here in Cape Coral. It is a restaurant that brings a bit of Key West to us when we can’t get away. So to continue our celebration of our first live race since February this year, we had two cocktails that took us back to so many memories of our runcations there! The first is Ernest Hemingway’s Old Fashioned, which is a rum-based beverage including Papa’s Pilar dark rum, a rum made right there in Key West! We also sampled the Key Lime Martini, which included one of our favorite rums - Wicked Dolphin Key Lime and Vanilla Bean Rum! Such a refreshing, sweet, and tart cocktail! We felt like we should be by a pool or out on a beach relaxing as we sipped these delights from the menu! We want to retuSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! RED Episode #135: Whatever It Takes 5K, Geyser Point, & AbracadaBar At Walt Disney World
Send us a textRUNMedal Chasers has introduced a virtual race series dedicated to supporting some great charities as well as some of our favorite Marvel heroes! So we had to run a few of the races while we were visiting Walt Disney World. We had the chance to stay at Boulder Ridge Villas at Wilderness Lodge and take in the scenery that is completely different from Florida and takes us to the Pacific Northwest. This week’s hero is Aimee’s favorite, Black Widow. The medal features Black Widow’s iconic belt. We ran the Whatever It Takes 5K around this scenic resort to support Abby’s House. This organization supports low-income, battered, and homeless women. It was a fun setting. EATThe Wilderness Lodge is home to a fantastic outdoor bar with a beautiful view of the water. Geyser Point Bar & Grill also has a range of delicious dishes to try. We couldn’t decide, so we split some great dishes. Charcuterie, Cheesy Barbecue Brisket, Crispy Fried Oysters, and the Bison Cheeseburger were all amazing, and we break them down on the show this week. There is something for everyone on this menu. DRINK AbracadaBar is a bar on the Boardwalk where we found a magical theme and tasty cocktails. We tried bourbon and rye cocktails. The first was a Black Manhattan with hints of orange, a slight bitterness, and the punch of Rye whiskey. The Parlor Trick is bourbon-based and includes soda water and simple syrup to let the bourbon shine! It was a darker and cozy environment that makes you want to see some magic and stay awhile. RED Episode #134: RED Episode #134: Ready Aim Run 5K for Kidz Outdoors & Le Cellier at Epcot
Send us a textRUNMedal Chasers has introduced a virtual race series dedicated to supporting some great charities as well as some of our favorite Marvel heroes! So we had to run a few of the races while we were visiting Walt Disney World. The Boardwalk and Epcot resort area is one of our favorite places to run. We did the "Ready.Aim.Run 5K" as our second race in that area while we were at Disney in September. This is the one we ran for time, so we ran separately but Dana was there to cheer me on at the end in addition to the random strangers applauding us! The race was hot and humid but the scenery was amazing. The charity attached to this one is Kidz Outdoors. This organization connects families through outdoor activities and raises funds for children battling diseases like cancer. We were so happy to support a great organization and to run a Hawkeye-themed race... plus the medal lights up! So fun!EATIt is no secret that one of our favorite areas in Epcot is Canada... that’s right... Canada! But we’ve never been to Le Cellier Steakhouse. Until September! We snagged a lunch reservation, but it was such an indulgent meal that we split an appetizer, entree, side, and dessert. Beef Bourguignon Poutine was an amazing starter. So rich and tasty, it is a must when coming here. Aimee loves steak... ribeye is her favorite cut! This version did not disappoint. The potato salad was warm, and a unique take for us that we want to try to reproduce at home! The Maple Whiskey-glazed Brussels Sprout enhancement we ordered was sweet and tender. Maple Crème Brûlée ... a yummy dessert!!DRINK Le Cellier Steakhouse gave us the chance to try new beverages in Canada too! Especially because we could walk back to our hotel! Normally we drink Moosehead Lager after a race or indulge in La Fin Du Monde if we are in the mood for a beer that packs a punch! But this meal gave us the chance to try a classic Canadian Cocktail, the Caesar. It is related to a Bloody Mary but includes clam juice... trust us; it does not taste like seafood! It is delightfully spicy with a horseradish and Tabasco kick... Dana had a classic version with vodka, and Aimee had a version with Canadian whiskey! Try this at brunch sometime or when you are at Le Cellier Steakhouse if you get a chance.BONUS FOR THE RUNCATION NATIONDon’t forget Expedition Roasters is offering a brand new discount code for the Runcation Nation! RED Episode #132: Smash Your Run 5K and Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Brunch
Send us a textRUNMedal Chasers has introduced a virtual race series dedicated to supporting some great charities as well as some of our favorite Marvel heroes! So we had to run one while we were visiting Walt Disney World. We ran the Smash Your Run 5K benefitting the Children’s Health Fund. The perfect place to feel like you are running a RunDisney race is the Boardwalk. We ran our 5K there and our goal was to take in all of the beautiful sights like people outside Boardwalk Bakery cheering for us when they realized we were running a virtual race and the beautiful view over the water of all the Epcot area resorts. Finishing right in front of the bakery and putting our medals featuring Hulk’s fist smashing through a wall giving the medal a 3D feel. it was great.EATChef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ in Disney Springs is a favorite place for us to go, but we have NEVER had brunch there because reservations can be hard to get. Well this weekend, we had success! We did our 5K and headed over to Disney Springs hungry for something we have heard nothing but rave reviews about. A HUGE item called the Hallelujah Biscuit. An open-faced biscuit topped with Chef Art Smith’s famous fried chicken, two over-easy eggs, pimento cheese, pecan smoked bacon, and sawmill gravy. It came with a side item. We couldn’t share this one, so we each had one. Dana had Bradley’s grits and Aimee had mouth-watering mac and cheese. Needless to say, we wanted a nap after that huge and incredibly flavorful meal. What better way to celebrate a 5K! DRINK Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ has outstanding brunch beverages, too. We had the Sweet Tea Shine, Moonshine Mash, and a tasty Southern Mary. Sweet Tea Shine is tasty sweet tea with lemon juice and moonshine. Moonshine Mash incorporates moonshine with fresh watermelon and lime juice. The Southern Mary is a spicy Bloody Mary topped with some of our favorites like a pimento cheese-stuffed olive and a fried green tomato! We had great service and a great time at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’! THAT’S A WRAP!If you love what you hear, now, you can become a patron and support the show! RED Episode #131: Run Like MADD Virtual Races, Horse Eyed Jake’s American Sliders, and Bones Coffee
Send us a textRUNThis week we are previewing a race we will be running at the end of September. We’d love it if you would join us in the Southwest Florida Walk Like MADD 5K & 10K to raise money for the Mothers Against Drunk Driving. We talk about it with Lori Burke, Executive Director of MADD. She talks about the important work that this organization does for victims and their families. We would love for you all to join us in supporting MADD by going to madd.org/5k and register to walk, run, dance, or bike a 5k or 10k for this great community organization. Special thank you to Lori Burke for taking the time to talk with us about MADD and this event. EATThis week we feature a great local food truck Horse Eyed Jake’s American Sliders. We’ve seen it around town and finally got a chance to try it out. The sliders that come out of this truck are over-sized and delicious. We tried four, including a Jammin’ Jalapeño, T-Bone, the Wakey Jakey, and a Crab Jake, too! All cooked to perfection and sauced just right! We also got the cooked-to-order chips and tried the Old Bay and Spicy Ranch seasonings. Finally, we were stuffed, but couldn’t pass up Carrot Cakey with a pineapple flair and frosting that was so cream cheesy! If you are local, you should give this food truck a try!DRINK Bones Coffee is another local gem roasted right here in our hometown. But, you can order it no matter where you are! You can get pounds of ground coffee or whole-bean and there are sampler packs if you need to try the variety of flavors Bones Coffee offers. We tried the Chocolate Orange Caramel Apple because we are heading into fall and wanted a taste that made us think of cooler weather. The flavors were subtle and not artificial at all. Dana does not generally like flavored coffees but enjoyed these two from Bones Coffee. The flavors are orchestrated well with a hint of the flavor but nothing that takes it too far and into the realm of dessert-type coffee beverages. We can’t wait to try more flavors from this local company and are excited that you all could get them shipped to your door, too!THAT’S A WRAP!If you love what you hear, now, you can become a patron and support the show! Episode Title: RED Episode #130: Run with the Dark Side We Have Coffee 5K, Chili Avocado Citrus Bowl from The Healthspan Solution, and Momentum & Grumpy Goat Coffee Collabs
Send us a textRUNFirst, our coach, Jeff Galloway, has a great new podcast out. You Can Do It is a collaboration between Jeff and his son, Westin, to chronically Jeff’s incredible career as an Olympian and America’s coach. Thanks to Wendel from the runcation nation for sharing it with everyone. Check it out on your next long run! This week, we ran a 5K for a great cause, Stand Up To Cancer. The Come To The Dark Side, We Have Coffee 5K combines one of our favorite movies AND our favorite morning beverage! We talk about our experience running this virtual 5K. The swag included a bib, a well-themed finisher’s medal, and even a t-shirt, too! It made the running experience better to know that we could support a great organization while celebrating the theme of coffee and Star Wars. All of this was brought to us by the I Run for Movement virtual races website. They have a variety of themes from Back to the Future to World’s Okayest Runners Club and the Turtle Running Team, too. This website has a whole host of virtual races with swag but even better, each one is connected to a great organization like Stand Up To Cancer, Feeding America, and First Responders Children’s Foundation. Check it out because in this time, when 2020 seems to be the year of the virtual, you can get some great bling and support some great causes. EATThis week we wanted to discuss another tasty recipe we discovered in The Healthspan Solution that will help us stay on track with our training. Labor Day is usually the unofficial end of summer. There is a refreshing salad in the book that has helped us stay cool in this unforgiving Florida heat and humidity. it is called the Chili Avocado Citrus Bowl. The dressing has hints of barbecue flavor in the dressing and the layers of texture with the spring mix, the creamy avocado, tangy pomegranate, and juicy citrus are perfect for an outdoor holiday cookout this holiday weekend or as a filling lunch during the week.We featured The Healthspan Solution on episode 108 and 109 as well when we were lucky enough to talk with authors Julieanna Hever and Ray Cronise. RED Episode #129: Esther Ekhart from Ekhart Yoga and a Flashback to Yak and Yeti at Animal Kingdom
Send us a textRUNIn this week's PLUS-SIZED-EPISODE, in addition to our training updates, we are featuring an interview with the founder of Ekhart Yoga, Esther Ekhart. Aimee has been a long-time member of Ekhart Yoga and Esther’s classes have been a major part of coming back from injury but more importantly, it has been a key cross-training element for Aimee’s running program. The running playlist on YouTube was how Aimee initially found Ekhart Yoga, and since then she has subscribed and been a loyal member for several years. Of course, everyone should consult a doctor before adding anything to their fitness regime.Esther and her fellow instructors offer modifications during yoga classes so you can do each pose at a level that works for you. The Ekhart Yoga website is searchable by the level of yoga expertise, teacher, the time you have available, the specific use you are looking for, and much more. Here are all the ways you can connect with Ekhart Yoga to find out more and to see the 30-Day Challenge Esther talked about on the show:Ekhart Yoga 30-Day Yoga ChallengeEkhart Yoga on InstagramEkhart Yoga on FacebookEkhart Yoga on TwitterEkhart Yoga on YouTube EATWhen we went to Walt Disney World a few weeks ago, we were going to celebrate our wedding anniversary. So we are featuring an upscale meal we had while in the parks that did not disappoint. This week, we flashback to a meal we would have again and again at Yak and Yeti inside Animal Kingdom there. The restaurant itself has an eclectic mix of artifacts meant to transport you to a hotel at the foot of the Himalayan mountains where travelers would stop on the way to Mount Everest. The cuisine is a tasty mix of Asian dishes, and our appetizer of pan-seared dumplings with a soy-lime dipping sauce was mouth-watering and tangy with a rich pork filling. Dana’s entree of Honey Chicken was sweet yet crunchy with the tempura chicken and included jasmine rice to soak up all that awesome sauce. Aimee had Korean Beef which combined barbecue flavors with tender beef, crunchy veggies, and jasmine rice. So good! We can’t wait to go back and try the duck and the coconut shrimp dishes. It was special-occasion-worthy!Here’s the link to the Landry Select Club that Dana gave as a tip in the show! Check out the benefits! DRINKSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! RED Episode #128: A Conversation with Chef Art Smith
Send us a textRUNThis week we complete the RunDisney Virtual Race Series with the Haunted Mansion 5K! Yes, we talk about the weather, but we are also without the medals, so we can’t wait until they arrive! It was a different summer race series because we couldn’t travel up to Walt Disney World to do it, but for Aimee, working from home now, it was a chance to get outside and get some fresh air ahead of the afternoon summer showers. For Dana, it was motivation to get his running done on a long work weekend. This week, we are connected to Walt Disney World and running amazing races virtually because we had the honor and pleasure of talking with Chef Art Smith! He has two amazing restaurants at Disney Springs, but he has also run marathons and took us on his storied running journey as we talked with him. Although he hasn’t run a race at Walt Disney World, he was in the Magic Kingdom College Program, now known as the Walt Disney World College Program, in 1981. We recorded this interview in the third week of April 2020, when we would have been running the Rival Run Weekend at Walt Disney World. Chef Art helped us bring a little bit of Disney home!EATChef Art Smith has appeared on the Food Network on shows like Chopped and is famed for being Oprah Winfrey’s personal chef. He has also authored books like Back to the Table as well as Kitchen Life: Real Food for Real Families and Back to the Family. Chef Art Smith is a two-time James Beard Foundation award winner with restaurants in Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando, Washington, D.C., and many more. He’s been on television shows like Top Chef Masters and The Today Show. Talking with him about his amazing restaurants and amazing southern comfort food made our mouths water!DRINKChef Art Smith has some incredible beverages at his restaurants. He has Moonshine at Homecomin’ in Disney Springs and we really want to get to his Atlanta restaurant, Southern Art and Bourbon Bar, for some amazing bourbon-based cocktails, too, when it reopens. It was great to get a little bit of the story and inspiration behind some of the signature cocktails at his restaurants. He is also generous in giving back to the community. He started Common Threads, an organization that teaches families the joy of healthy cooking. This summer, they are even having a virtual summer camp for kids with activities they can do at home. Chef Art Smith was so generous with his time. We can’t thank him enough for spending time with us and inspiring us with grSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! RED Episode #127: Plant-Based Dietitian Julieanna Hever’s Delicious Mushroom Cauliflower Rice Dish and Coastal Dayz Rock-N-Reef Red
Send us a textRUNNo race registrations or virtual races this week, it was a week of healing and getting back out there slowly and safely for Aimee. Dana was getting in his runs and finding his sweet spot for run-walk-run ratios. No race cancelations that we know of either! So, we focused on getting mileage while looking forward to the last in our RunDisney Virtual Race Series, the Haunted Mansion 5K next week. We can’t wait to get the medals in our hands! EATOn episodes 108 and 109 of our show, we featured an interview about one of our favorite books to cook from in our kitchen, The Healthspan Solution. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been cooking a lot of a new favorite in our kitchen, Cream of Mushroom Cauliflower Rice. We were lucky enough to be joined by the Plant-Based Dietitian, Julieanna Hever, this week to chat about it! She told us the story behind it and why she loves it so much. I know we will be making it a lot because it is comforting, filling, and uses the flavors that summon great memories from childhood and the holidays. You can get the hardback version of The Healthspan Solution here or the Kindle version by clicking here.Find more resources from Julieanna Hever at her website, plantbaseddietitian.com Check out Julieanna on YouTube here. A special thank you to Julieanna Hever for spending time with us and sharing knowledge this week!Thank you to Hannah Kaminsky for the fantastic photo of the Cream of Mushroom Cauliflower Rice dish.DRINKWe featured Rock-N-Reef Red on our live beer chat this week from a local favorite, Coastal Dayz Brewery. They are the latest to get their food license in the state of Florida so their local patrons can resume on-site consumption. But that is not the only update for this local gem. They are going to start canning their great beer! We got a sneak peek at the prototype labels while tasting another one of our favorites from this brewery, Homeport Honey Wheat. RED Episode #126: Training Updates and Flashback to Satu'li Canteen at Animal Kingdom
Send us a textRUNWe ran at home this weekend. Dana was able to get a 5K in everyday this weekend at work. Aimee was still recovering from her ankle injury last weekend, so we postponed the longer run for a week. The Beat The Blerch weekend we were scheduled for in September was canceled. We registered successfully for all 3 races at the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend. We even got into the Kessel Run Challenge, that includes getting in the Star Wars Virtual anywhere in the galaxy prior to the race weekend in Orlando in April of 2021. Fingers crossed! We got in last Thursday as Annual Passholders, but regular registration is Tuesday, August 11th at 10AM. May the Force Be With You!EATWe took our training run to Walt Disney World to check out the 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival last week, and this week we flashback to the awesome quick service meal we had at Satu’li Canteen. This place is situated right next to the popular ride, Pandora Flight of Passage, in Animal Kingdom, and we were lucky enough to make a quick visit there on our last day in Orlando. The My Disney Experience App allowed us to mobile order and come in once our meal was ready. We had tasty Cheeseburger Bao Buns and a flavorful Slow-Roasted Sliced Grilled Beef Bowl with noodles and a charred green onion vinaigrette. We had friendly employees guiding us to a table, and one named Tiger who noticed our Happy Anniversary buttons and got us a complimentary Chocolate Cake dessert. He definitely got a cast compliment!DRINKThe 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival had some great beer offerings, but Satu’li Canteen did as well. Dana had an Organic Blonde Ale from Orlando Brewing. It was light and refreshing on a humid post-rain summer day. Aimee had a Dreamwalker Sangria, which is a white sangria with a hint of blue curaçao. It was light and crisp, not overly sweetened. They were great beverages to go along with one of our new favorite places to visit at Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. RED Episode #125: A Training Run at Walt Disney World and a Peek at some 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Offerings
Send us a textRUN We took our training run to Walt Disney World to check out the 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival. We had a 3-miler to complete and thought this was a great chance to get a peek at the festival as it is running longer than it ever has before this year. We also wanted to see what the experience was like at Disney now that it has reopened. EAT This year we got to experience classics at the Canada booth! We featured the Canada booth in Episode 86 as we compared it to Ireland’s offerings. The “Le Cellier” Wild Mushroom Beef Filet Mignon with Truffle-Butter Sauce was great and the star is always Canadian Cheddar and Bacon Soup with a Prop and Peller Pretzel Roll. Ireland has not returned, but we got to experience a brand new booth called Citrus Blossom. The Lobster Tail served with Meyer Lemon Emulsion and Grilled Lemon was fantastic and the Crispy Citrus Chicken with Orange Aioli and Baby Greens was awesome. We can’t wait to try more from the festival later on this year! DRINK The 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival had some great beer offerings as well. We got two new ones between the Canada and Citrus Blossom booths. At Citrus Blossom, we saw Islamorada Beer Company and we had to try the Coconut Key Lime Ale there. Crisp and refreshing for a hot Florida day, it had subtle notes of coconut and key lime. With an ABV of 5%, it was a great offering to cool off during this very humid Florida summer. At Canada, there was the Blackberry Fruit Beer from Collective Arts out of Hamilton, Ontario. At 4.7% ABV, it was a beer with lower carbonation and a dry finish, and a blackberry color, almost as if it was a wine. It was not a dessert beer, but a refreshing offering that we’d have again in Canada. THAT’S A WRAP! If you love what you hear, now, you can become a patron and support the show! RED Episode #124: Training Motivation, The Healthspan Solution’s Chana Masala, and La Picklabod Pickle Sour from Millennial Brewing
Send us a textRUN This week, it was time for a long run. Aimee talks about challenges with the motivation to get it done. It is also a week to talk about taking it easy around an injury and not overdo it. Dana talks about how to get it done with a busy work schedule. He also updates us on his testing of his latest training tool. We also discuss the latest in a series of races to convert to virtual: Walt Disney World Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. Which races are next? Should we write off 2020 all together? Does that mean Marathon Weekend 2021 is in jeopardy? Will smaller, local races still happen? Have you seen any or run any smaller races? Only time will tell... EAT This week we wanted to feature a recipe we discovered in The Healthspan Solution that will help us stay on track with our training. Big flavors are a hallmark of Indian cooking and we needed some this week, so we made Chana Masala. It is a hearty and flavorful stew served over rice. It is really not hard to make and has the spice we were craving. We featured the The Healthspan Solution on episode 108 and 109 as well, when we were lucky enough to talk with authors Julieanna Hever and Ray Cronise. It has become a cornerstone of our cooking at home. The Healthspan Solution has great recipes that are plant-based and flavorful! And you can absolutely add protein while increasing the nutrient-dense content in your meals without sacrificing flavor. You can get the hardback version of the book here or the Kindle version by clicking here. And if you want to hear more from Ray and Julieanna, check out their podcast, Science and Saucery. DRINK The local brewery scene has taken a hit lately, so we have decided to show some love to these places that we want to see make it through this tough time for many in the beer industry. Millennial Brewing has a beer that intrigues us this week and we had to try it. Pickle juice has long been rumored to help runners with cramps. But what about a pickle beer? We posted a picture of one in our Runcation Nation Facebook group. Then we found one locally at Support the showTHAT’S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! RED Episode #123- RunDisney Virtual Space Mountain 5K and Leroy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar in Punta Gorda
Send us a textRUN This week we did the RunDisney Virtual 5K honoring the classic attraction Space Mountain. We headed to Punta Gorda and found Laishley Park to complete this run. It was a great view of the water with paved paths. It would even provide us with bridge-work, if we needed it. We have earned the medal and cannot wait to receive it as it was one of the first coasters that captured our hearts and still makes us feel like kids again. EAT Leroy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar was a wonderful find in Punta Gorda. It has the atmosphere of a country kitchen. We had a Fried Green Tomato appetizer with a different spin and great dipping sauce. Our meals were incredible as well, from Pork and Pancakes to a classic. Ribeye with the perfect char and sides. We had a dessert that took us back to childhood in the banana cream pudding. There was so much more on the menu to try. We will return and think you should too! Leroy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar Is one of our favorites that we’ve featured on the show. DRINK Leroy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar is a bourbon bar and boasts a substantial cocktail list as well as a wide variety of Florida locals on tap perfect for a refreshing post-run beverage. There were several different types of Old Fashioned cocktails, but we had to have the Cornbread Old Fashioned. Cornbread-infused whiskey? Sign us up. It was so delicious! RED Episode #122: Run for Dogs 5K, Ramen and Waffles Food Truck, and HOB Brewing Company in Dunedin
Send us a textRUNThis week, we completed Jeff Galloway’s 75th Birthday Challenge by going 7.5 miles on our Sunday long run. We also completed the Run for the Dogs 5K Virtual this week as well. We talked with listener, Jenn, who introduced us to it. This gave us a chance to hear a great story behind her rescuing her dogs and talk about this race that supports multiple shelters across the country. In this town, we found a trail perfect for running that we want to get back to soon, and on this trail, there were, you guessed it... breweries! We found HOB Brewing Company as they hosted the Ramen and Waffles Food Truck. This food truck put out some amazing Asian cuisine, including a Cubano Bao and some great Kimchi Chicken Steamed Dumplings. It doesn’t sound like it is the kind of food you’d find on a food truck, but it delivered spicy and delicious flavors that we loved!!DRINKHOB Brewing Company has a huge outdoor space with pet-friendly space right next to the fitness trail and both shaded and sunny places to stop off and have a tasty beverage. HOB Brewing Company has a wide variety on their beer menu. From Peanut Butter Blonde to Liquid Swords Lager and a Cool Cucumber IPA, there is something for everyone! RED Episode #121: A Conversation with Jeff Galloway About Summer Running & Dunedin Brewery
Send us a textRUNThis week, we are privileged to help celebrate our running coach’s 75th birthday! Jeff Galloway, America’s Coach, and ours, turns 75 on July 12th! There is no way we could ever thank him for the inspiration, expertise, support, friendship, and love he has shown us. We are so lucky to have him on the show this week.First, we want to tell everyone about his 75th Birthday Challenge. There are many ways to help him celebrate. You can do 75 miles in the month of July, 7.5 miles on July 12th, 75 laps around a track or 1/4-mile segments, or a 75-lap relay. You get an official race number and website to log your miles as well as an e-certificate for completing your challenge!Second, of course, we want to share his expertise. The summer running season is upon us, and we need to run safely when we are outside. The dramatic rise in heat and humidity requires us to train smart. Jeff shares tips and tricks for combating the heat and being successful in the heart of the summer. Here’s a link to his article recapping his tips for running in the heat.https://www.jeffgalloway.com/2007/06/15/dealing_with_th/Remember, if any of you are looking for a virtual race, we have a discount code for the Virtual Pace Series website to offer everyone in the Runcation Nation. We were introduced to Dunedin Brewery back during the Fit Foodie Run on Episode 14 of our show. Their brewery is so beautiful. It looks like a castle set back in the Medieval Times. There is seating indoors right along with the tanks where they brew their delicious beer and really well-shaded outdoor seating as well. We had Fried Pretzel Bites with Brown Ale Mustard and Beer Cheese. They were so tasty. The pretzel was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside with just the right amount of salt. The mustard was tangy and the beer cheese was warm, melty, and just the right amount of bite in flavor. DRINKDunedin Brewery also has amazing beer. We had the Apricot Peach and the air. Pilsner. They were full of flavor, light, crisp, and refreshing for a hot summer day. Both were inexpensive at $6 and $5 for a 16-ounce pour and they were sessionable offerings at 6.2 and 4.2 ABV. RED Episode #120: RunDisney Virtual 5K-Mad Tea Party and Flashback to North Island Bar & Grill and The Columbia in Clearwater
Send us a textRUNWe got some sad news this week in the running community about the NYC Marathon and updates to the Marine Corps Marathon. But the saddest one of all for us was the Donna Marathon Weekend announcement. We talk about how that has impacted the running community. RunDisney Virtual Race Series has begun! The first 5K in that series themed around the Mad Tea Party. We were making plans to ensure it is full of Disney magic, but the Florida weather had other plans with a “feels like” temperature of 101! Yet, we accomplished the goal and let the fun medal inspire us. We did it at home because, sadly, Walt Disney World has not reopened yet. It was a flat course, and hot. Remember, if any of you are looking for a virtual race, we have a discount code for the Virtual Pace Series website to offer everyone in the Runcation Nation. Use RUNEATDRINK10 at their website to get 10% any event! We will be doing one soon! EATWe were able to get away to Clearwater, Florida last weekend and explore some local favorites. North Island Bar & Grille was awesome! It is a little place tucked away off the beach, but the food is amazing! We shared the Argentina Reds. These were huge peel and eat shrimp tossed in garlic butter Cajun sauce and served with buttery garlic bread. It was $11 and worth every penny! It was so good we tried to go back for more later that evening, but the kitchen was already closed. We loved the island color scheme and the staff was super friendly! Kick back and relax at the bar indoor or outdoor seating. Have some great food along with some local brews and great cocktails.DRINKIn our very first episode, we went to The Columbia along the Tampa Riverwalk. It was a throwback to childhood for Dana and to some incredible times of celebration in our family. Now that their restaurant group is reopening its locations, we decided to celebrate by toasting with one of our favorite drinks from there at sunset by the beautiful water view at their Clearwater location. A Pete’s Manhattan was in order for us! It is a strong cocktail but full of flavor from Knob Creek, Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth, and a dash of Ramazzoti Amaro. Hall of fame bartender, Pete Scaglione’s recipe for $9.95 but it tastes like they could charge so much more.THAT’S A WRAP!If you love what you hear, now, you can become a patron and support the show, too! RED Episode #119: Marvel 80th Anniversary 5K and Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill on the Beach
Send us a textRUNYou know we love Marvel-themed races! Last summer, we did the RunDisney Virtual Race series celebrating 80 years of Marvel, and this year, thanks to a follower of the show, Kristin Ceneviva-Iovene, we found a race celebrating 80 years of Marvel for this summer. It is a great virtual, and a portion of the proceeds support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Peak Virtual Races is where she found this one, and they have some other great medals and themes to check out, too. It has a huge and colorful medal. You have to submit your time before they mail your medal. It is a great thing because it was so hot out there this week, so it was a great motivator! Remember, if any of you are looking for a virtual race, we have a discount code for the Virtual Pace Series website to offer everyone in the Runcation Nation. We are making plans to ensure it is full of Disney magic. EATWe were able to get away to Clearwater, Florida this weekend and explore some local favorites. One is Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill. It is one of three Frenchy’s locations on Clearwater Beach. We decided to take in the view out on the porch overlooking the beach. We got Tuna Nachos. They were different from the Ahi Tuna Nachos we got from Kiki’s Sandbar on Little Torch Key in Episode 74. House-made blue corn tortilla chips loaded with raw ahi tuna, eel sauce, gochujang sauce, avocado purée, pico de gallo, green onions, and fresh mangos. A more Mexican take instead of the Asian version we had headed down to Key West, these tuna nachos were fresh and a big plate of tasty tuna atop of crunchy tortilla chips. Perfect for sharing on the beach while relaxing after a run. DRINKFrenchy’s Rockaway Grill has great beach-themed cocktails perfect for sipping while taking in the Florida summer sun. One is called the Flip Flop Margarita. It has Frenchy's Rockaway Exclusive Barrel Select Patrón Añejo Tequila, Patrón Citrónge Lime and Mango Liqueurs with sour mix ~ served tall on the rocks with a salted rim and lime. Send us a textRUNDana talks about getting in his final run for his Nano Gauntlet from Medal Chasers. The rain and humidity of Florida summer have been a challenge, but we did it. Our schedule, as with most other runners, has changed to a mostly virtual race schedule, and we are making plans and seeking out races to make it the best ever. To that end, if any of you are looking for a virtual race, we have a discount code for the Virtual Pace Series website to offer everyone in the Runcation Nation. Use RUNEATDRINK10 at their website to get 10% any event! We are also gearing up for our RunDisney Virtual Race Series, so we talk about our first 5K in that series themed around the Mad Tea Party. We are making plans to ensure it is full of Disney magic. Next weekend is Father’s Day, and we also talk about a couple of great gifts for the running dads out there! Check them out here:Black Diamond Spot HeadlampThe FitLife Nordic Walking Trekking PolesFeetures SocksNight Runner 270 Shoe LightsEAT Arekie Food Truck was recommended to us by one of our founders, and it did not disappoint. The food from this truck is top-notch and is a fusion of Latin and Indian Cuisine. We ordered Butter Chicken with Naan on the side. It had white rice and Tandoori Chicken in a creamy tomato sauce with pickled onion, cilantro, and cheese. It was rich, decadent, and could have been served in any upscale restaurant. There is so much more we want to try from this truck. We have seen it at many of our favorite places in Southwest Florida from Fort Myers Brewing Company to No. 3 Craft Brews. Another place that created a great fusion dish that we got to try this week is Nice Guys Pizza. We were so happy to hear that we could sit inside once again at 2nd home for us and even more excited to hear they have created a Chicken Pizza Masala. Or if you are looking for a Vegan version, Tofu Pizza Masala. You can even ask for them with a bit of extra spice. We talk about how good it was to be there again and have this delicious addition to their menu.DRINKWe celebrated National Bourbon Day over this past week, and in this episode, we talk about two of our favorite bourbons, Buffalo Trace and Larceny. Two of our favorites offer two unique flavors to experience as you celebrate with your favorite bourbon beverage. One made with more rye and the other with moreSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! RED Episode #116: 30k Gauntlet Challenge Completed, Mangia Food Truck Returns, & Premium American Lager from Big Storm Brewing Company
Send us a textRUNThis week we talk about earning a great medal! We completed our 30k Gauntlet Challenge from the Medal Chasers website. This is a series of 5k runs for each infinity stone in the “Tony Stark” version of the gantlet medal called the Nano Gantlet. This virtual race series also benefits the Pinky Swear Foundation that supports children and their families fighting childhood cancer, just like the 10k version we completed a few weeks ago. This week we said we would reveal what’s on the back of the medal. It is so awesome! The runs were tough in the Florida heat, but we got it done!EATThis week, of course, was not a travel week for us, so we hit a local favorite, Mangia Food Truck while they were at Big Storm Brewing Company. Food trucks are making a big come back, and they support our local breweries being able to open back up more fully in the current situation. While the food truck is onsite, you can enjoy food and beer in the Taproom and at outside seating while observing all current state and local guidelines. So we are really grateful to trucks like Mangia. This week they had a special beer cheese on the menu made with Big Storm beer! It was served with a local bakery’s pretzel. Plus a new sandwich for vegetarian friends that was tasty, along with a few more of their great carnivorous offerings. We chatted with the owners, Nancy and John Bagliani about how they got this all started and what’s coming up on their menu. They are constantly innovating. We can’t wait to go back for more. They say they are steadily getting into the rotation around town, so follow Mangia on Facebook and get a tasty meal!DRINK Big Storm Brewing Company Is of course near and dear to our hearts. The very first beer we had on the show was their Wavemaker Amber Ale. With our 4th anniversary fast approaching, we wanted to highlight a new beer put on their menu this week that we fell in love with, the Premium American Lager. It’s light at 4.7 ABV and it has a great grainy and malty flavor. So session-able for the upcoming hot summer months. THAT’S A WRAP!Special thank you to our newest founder and patron of the show, John Schroeder! He supports the show with $5 a month and has his name on our patron wall here. RED Episode #115: 30k Gauntlet Challenge from Medal Chasers, Death By Taco 239, & Pachanga from Sun King Brewery
Send us a textRUNThis week we talk about our training runs in the Florida heat. We also kick off our 30k Gauntlet Challenge from the Medal Chasers website. This week was a tough one because we had to combat the Florida heat and humidity as well a forecast full of storms we had to plan our running around, so it became a bit tricky to time it just right and get it done. But we did it!EATThis week, we highlight the return of a local taco food truck called Death By Taco 239. We are so happy to have it back on Mondays at Nice Guys, when the pizzeria is closed. We had the Saigon, Szechuan, and Rockefeller tacos. They came in an order of two tacos each on a corn tortilla. Our favorite? The Rockefeller. It has cornmeal-fried oyster mushrooms, pickled sweet corn, pickled mustard seed, preserved lemon aioli, shallot fennel slaw, and cilantro. So good!! if you want to hear more about this amazing truck, we featured them on Episode #106. We are so glad to see that they will be open again on a regular basis! Meet you anywhere they are, anytime!DRINKWhile eating the tacos, we got to sample a Mexican Lager that is new to us. Since the food truck was parked at Nice Guys Pizza at the time we ate, we were able to a beer that was on draft there called Pachanga from Sun King Brewery. We find similar flavor to other Mexican Lagers we’ve had in the past like No Nombre from Fort Myers Brewing Company or Modelo Especial. It is a lighter beer that is nice to have on a hot and humid Florida day after a run. THAT’S A WRAP!Special thank you to our newest insider and patron of the show, Rob Nadeau! We have never met in person, but we feel like we know him. He has called into the show before and continues to show us fantastic places to run as he posts in the runcation nation Facebook Group. If you love what you hear, now, you can become a patron and support the show! RED Episode #114: May the 4th Be With You 5K, Herbed Dijon Potato Salad from the Healthspan Solution, and Mrs. Nesbitt's Darjeeling Tea from Expedition Roasters
Send us a textRUNThis week we recap a 5K from Virtual Pace Series, the May the 4th Be With You 5K. This race is from the Virtual Pace Series website. You might remember that we completed the Top Run Challenge from their collection and talked about it on episode 108 and 109. Our April race in Orlando at Walt Disney World, the Rival Run Challenge, was canceled, of course. So, that led us to complete a couple of different Star Wars virtual races from Virtual Pace Series to get our Star Wars race fix in at home. The medal is amazing, and this race also featured a bib that gave us numbers and, on the other side, finisher certificate. EATIn a week, we will all be celebrating Memorial Day Weekend. Usually, this is a long holiday weekend for most, filled with friends, family, and cookouts indicating the unofficial start of summer. While that may not be the case this year, we wanted to feature a recipe we discovered in The Healthspan Solution that will help us celebrate the holiday weekend with a classic dish that you might see at cookouts: potato salad. You will remember that we featured the Healthspan Solution on episode 108 and 109 as well when we were lucky enough to talk with authors Julieanna Hever and Ray Cronise. This dish, the Herbed Dijon Potato Salad is only one tasty salad recipe in the book that is hearty, filling, and makes us feel like we are celebrating, even though we are not necessarily indulging in a typical, high-calorie potato salad that may have the mayonnaise, bacon, and salt that we are trying to eliminate as we train for fall races. The Healthspan Solution has great recipes that are plant-based and flavorful! And you can add protein while increasing the nutrient-dense content in your meals without sacrificing flavor. RED Episode #113: Bill and Kristina Craig from Medal Chasers, Perk & Brew, & the Final 2 Infinity Stone Cocktails
Send us a textRUNThis week we completed the last 2 runs in our 60k Gauntlet Challenge from the Medal Chasers website. This is a series of 10k runs for each infinity stone in the medal. This virtual race series benefits the Pinky Swear Foundation that supports children and their families fighting childhood cancer. This week we fought through the increasing humidity and heat that signals the start of Florida summer to earn those last two infinity stones. This week, we are lucky to be joined by Bill and Kristina Craig, owners of Medal Chasers. We talk about their passion for running and what brought them to providing these virtual races for their fellow runners. We are on the waiting list for another one of their virtual challenges that looks amazing! From fun runs that benefit running clubs to virtual races that support a variety of charities near and dear to their hearts, Medal Chasers Bill and Kristina provide creatively designed medals and race bibs that you should check out! Plus they offer a My Race My Pace Medal Chasers group on Facebook for everyone to share their accomplishments and support each other in fitness endeavors, whether they are Medal Chasers events or not. Thank you to both of them for taking time to talk with us!EATThis week, we highlight a local breakfast spot, Perk & Brew that we went to when Aimee finished her final two 10Ks to complete the Gauntlet Challenge! Now that the local restaurants are able to seat 25% capacity inside, we went to check this little place out. It felt like a little vacation spot that we’d find if we were traveling. You know, the kind of little cafe where locals go to get great coffee and a hearty breakfast. The coffee was tasty and warm, plus the Egg Sandwich with fruit or sub tots for a $1.50 more was so tasty! You choose your bread, type of cheese, and meat. We got croissant, with bacon, and cheddar or pepper jack. Croissant is the way to go for the type of bread. It was buttery and flaky, while the cheddar added that salty note on top of warm scrambled eggs, and finally the smoky and crisp bacon made the perfect breakfast bite. DRINKPaul Cottrell, a leading local distiller and cocktail wizard joins us to create the final two fantastic drinks representing each infinity stone we earned. The time stone rum cocktail and the soul stone gin cocktail wrap it all up for us. Paul is a talented drink wizard who shows us creative drinks to celebrate our accomplishments. This virtual race series benefits the Pinky Swear Foundation that supports children and their families fighting childhood cancer. This week we fought through the rain and heat that signals the start of the hot and humid Florida summers to earn the Reality and Power stones.EATIt is Cinco De Mayo! We can’t get enough of Mexican food and thought we’d flash back to a place we went to in Saint Augustine on our way back home from the Donna Marathon Weekend. Osprey Tacos is in beautiful and historic Saint Augustine, Florida. They have street tacos, boulevard tacos, churros, and more! We ordered from their boulevard taco section on their menu and it did not disappoint! Plus, they are right next door to Old Coast Ales. Tacos and beer for the win! It was the last trip we had and we were feeling the need to reminisce. How are you celebrating Cinco De Mayo? DRINKPaul Cottrell, a leading local distiller and cocktail wizard is back to create two more awesome beverages representing each infinity stone we earned. He talks some great RunDisney race memories that will help us get through this time when we can’t be at Disney crossing that finish line for the Star Wars Rival Run Challenge. EATMike also helped us out with the eating portion of our show! He talks about some great meals that he likes to get at Disney for pre-race and post-race meals. He has done the Dopey Challenge for several years and proves that the carb-loading meal does not have to be pasta. We gotta check it out at the next race!Thank you so much to Mike for spending time talking Disney with us!! You should really check out his podcast and if you are looking to plan a Disney vacation when all of this has passed, check out the Magic For Less Travel where he is a senior agent. RED Episode #109: Part 2 of our Talk with Ray Cronise & Julieanna Hever, Authors of the Healthspan Solution &, Caleb MacPherson from Narrative Coffee
Send us a textRUNIn this run segment, we talk about a virtual race challenge we finished this week. We grew up in the ’80s, and we love so many movies from that decade. So when the Virtual Pace Series website introduced the Top Gun Challenge, and we saw the medal, we knew we had to do it. We recap our Half Marathon and the completion of our challenge this week.EATWe have been cooking from The Healthspan Solution by Ray Cronise and Julieanna Hever. This week it is time to hear the second part of their interview. Ray and Julieanna were so generous with their time. In this portion of our talk with them, they gave us such great information about the foundation of their book and how they got started in the field of plant-based eating and why it helps people “add life to their years.” Their book has great recipes that are plant-based and flavorful! And you can absolutely add protein while increasing the nutrient-dense content in your meals without sacrificing flavor. You can get the hardback version of the book here or the Kindle version by clicking here. And if you want to hear more from Ray and Julieanna, check out their podcast, Science and Saucery. DRINKWe are gearing up for part 2 of #southcapetakeoutweekend2020 ! It is hosted to support local restaurants and breweries to showcase their contactless curbside and delivery options. We wanted to support them and help keep them going while following all safety protocols so that when we come through this, there are still the great places we know and love locally that we can explore and indulge. One local that we want to feature this week is Narrative Coffee Roasters. Although not part of the takeout weekend, owners, Caleb and Megan MacPherson, are doing local contactless delivering of outstanding coffee from Naples to Punta Gorda. The coffee is thoughtfully selected and roasted. Caleb drops some great coffee knowledge on us this week. RED Episode #108: Top Run Virtual Challenge, Part 1 of our Talk with Ray Cronise and Julieanna Hever, Authors of the Healthspan Solution, & Southern Tier Hot Cocoa Imperial Nitro Stout
Send us a textRUNIn this run segment, we talk about a virtual race challenge we are starting this week. We grew up in the 80’s and we love so many movies from that decade. So when the Virtual Pace Series website introduced the Top Gun Challenge, and we saw the medal, we knew we had to do it. While you can complete a 5k, 10k, or half, they offer the challenge of completing all three. It is a great bib and a great medal, so we decided to do all three distances, and we started this week with the 5k, while reminiscing about classic scenes from this 1980’s hit and listening to its soundtrack during the run from Apple Music. EATWe have been cooking from The Healthspan Solution by Ray Cronise and Julieanna Hever. This week it is time to hear the first part of their interview. DRINKThis week we were a part of a local event called the #southcapetakeoutweekend2020 that was hosted to support local restaurants and breweries in an effort to showcase their contactless curbside and delivery options. We wanted to support them and help keep them going while following all safety protocols, so that when we come through this there are still the great places we know and love locally that we can explore and indulge. One local establishment that we have actually done some live video from and celebrated the first year of our podcast from is No. 3 Craft Brews. They are a local beer bar and bottle shop providing some unique offerings that you can’t get everywhere. One such offering is the Southern Tier Nitro Hot Cocoa Imperial Milk Stout at 10% ABV. With chocolate and marshmallow flavors, it could be a dessert by itself!THAT’S A WRAP!Got a race to share? A great place to eat in your hometown? RED Episode #107: A Chat with Jeff Galloway, A Recipe from The Healthspan Solution, & Big Storm Coffee El Rayo
Send us a textRUNIn this run segment, we talk to America’s Coach Jeff Galloway about tips for the current situation many of us find ourselves in as runners. He talks about how to stay positive and resources to keep us going and help in this stressful time. We are so grateful that he took the time to speak with us. You can find his timer and books as well as other resources he discussed at www.jeffgalloway.com. If you have training or running questions for him, send them to [email protected]. Jeff asked us if we wouldn't mind sharing this. Here is a link to the website that Dr. Ruth Parker, his medical advisor from Emory University, sent to Jeff if anyone has concerns that they may need to be tested for the Corona Virus:https://c19check.com/start Dr. Parker’s explanation of the website: “This COVID-19 self-screening tool has been released for free, public use. My health educator colleague, Kara Jacobson, and I did the ‘health literacy’ review of its content, building on work we did with this team years ago during the H1N1 epidemic. Its content is based on the best-available evidence, and the team that worked to develop it is excellent (the tech for its support was donated by a great tech start-up).Its purpose is to help people check symptoms (on a smartphone) to see if they need to go to the ER….hoping to keep folks out who do not need to be there.”Jeff also talked about looking forward to virtual races now and fall races as a way to stay motivated. He mentioned three fun race weekends in particular that he has been to in the past or is planning on going to again this fall. You can check them out here:Virtual Race Still Open for Northside Hospital Orthopedic Institute Half Marathon Powered by Jeff Galloway and Barb’s 5KAnchorage Runfest - August 2020Cannonball Marathon Weekend - October 2020Des Moines Marathon Weekend - October 2020 EATWe have been cooking from The Healthspan Solution by Ray Cronise and Julieanna Hever. This week we feature one of our favorites from the book, Lemon Tahini Broccoli Slaw. It is substantial and filling with chickpeas and has a satisfying smoky flavor with sun-dried tomatoes. There are so many textures in this salad and the lemon adds a tang that is very pleasing to the palate. We talk about the book and how it has supported our weight loss and fitness endeavors. This is only the first of several recipes we will share from the book in the coming weeks. You can get the hardback version of the book here or the Kindle version by clicking here.DRSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! They do lobster rolls two different ways AND lobster tots! What amazing seafood coming from a food truck that makes us think of one of our favorite places in Key West: DJ’s Clam Shack. When we can’t travel, we know we can absolutely get our hands on some amazing lobster right here in town! All of the people in the group are so positive and share their running journeys as well.EATFat Point Brewing is a great place in Punta Gorda we featured on Episode 93 of our show. It was their 5th anniversary this weekend, and we love their brewery, taproom, and people. So we celebrated with them. We had some amazing food items that we had at the party. We both had brat sandwiches, one with sauerkraut and one with grilled peppers and onions. They were amazing with the Bru Man Chu Mustard. Because of the special occasion, they had a crawfish and seafood boil that was very tasty!DRINKWe also got to sample some more of Fat Point’s amazing beer menu at the taproom. Send us a textRUNTraining in March will include a local 5K race we are excited about, but we are also looking forward to the training run that will earn us the RunDisney Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon medal. The training runs this week will include short mileage as we recover from Donna Marathon Weekend. We will also start back to drills that will help improve our speed as we head toward higher mileage and ultimately the challenge at Star Wars Rival Run Challenge Weekend in April. EATWe drive to the 2020 Donna Marathon Weekend in Jacksonville, which affords us the chance to stop at unique places along the way. Linger Lodge is one of those places in Bradenton, Florida. Ever had gator, friend green tomatoes, and frog legs on the same platter? You can at Linger Lodge. You can also smell killer BBQ on the smoker and taste it in their Southern BBQ Chips with Avocado Ranch Sauce. We wanted to get the Bloody Mary that looks like a meal in itself, trust us or check their social media, but they only serve it on weekends. Darn it, we have to go back!DRINKMotorworks Brewing is also in Bradenton. After having their beer first at the Tampa Beer Run: Winter Edition and again at the third run of the event, we knew we had to visit. Their taproom and beer garden space is amazing. RED Episode 98: 2020 Donna Marathon Weekend in Jacksonville Part 1 & Southern Grounds
Send us a textRUNThe 2020 Donna Marathon Weekend is here! In this episode, we breakdown the start of our incredible weekend, including the race expo, the social shakeout run, and the first race of the weekend for us, the 5K. This is such a special event, how could we not take part in as many parts of it as possible. We break down these events at the race weekend. Next week, we talk about the half marathon!Hear from the creators of this great race weekend on last year’s episode here.EATThe Donna Marathon Weekend Social Shakeout Run starts at Southern Grounds, a local breakfast spot that does not disappoint. After both the shakeout run and the 5K, we had brunch at Southern Grounds. The Brunch Toast is a tasty twist on avocado toast, as they turn the avocado into smooth and tangy guacamole and serve it topped with edible flowers, heirloom tomatoes, and a perfectly poached egg. The Grits Bowl has bacon, scallions, and a perfectly poached egg atop stone-ground grits! Finally, the pancakes are fluffy, light, buttery, and served with outstanding maple syrup. You can have a great breakfast and relax in this great Jacksonville Beach breakfast spot. DRINKOf course, Southern Grounds has coffee and other brunch drink options as well. We took the recommendation of the cashier who took our order. She did not steer us wrong as we had the Dirty Chai Latte. You can have it with whole milk or almond milk, and the almond milk option makes it a bit lighter so you can enjoy even more of it and go for the large! Of course, it was a weekend, and we were feeling like brunch drinks as well. At Southern Grounds, they serve beer and wine, so we got a sake based Bloody Mary with a scratch-made mix. It was tasty! RED Episode 97: Final Training for Donna Marathon Weekend, Mangia Food Truck in SW Florida, & Veza Sur Mangolandia
Send us a textRUNWe had our final training runs ahead of the Donna Marathon Weekend this week. Aimee listened to her coach, Jeff Galloway, and just did easy runs of 30 minutes every other day. Dana completed his running schedule as well. Aimee’s goal is to PR in fun at the Donna Marathon Weekend. It is a race that you want to take in so much instead of trying to get to the end of it faster.EATThis week, of course, was not a travel week for us, so we decided to try something new here in town, Mangia Food Truck while they were at Big Storm Brewing Company on our rainy day off. They are fairly new in the rotation of food trucks we see at breweries here in town, but their food is amazing. We had a hot Italian sausage sandwich and a chicken sausage sandwich. They both tasted like the sausage was made from scratch and cooked with love. The spice was not too much and the onions and peppers that accompanied the sausage were cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of bite. The rolls they were served on were huge! Mangia Food Truck made such tasty and filling sandwiches! We can’t wait to go back for more. They say they are steadily getting into the rotation, so follow them on Facebook and get a tasty meal!DRINKWhile we were running last weekend at the Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Half Marathon, we stayed at the Bahia Mar Double Tree by Hilton. After the half marathon, we had enough time to take a dip in the pool and enjoy a local brew before making the drive back home. They had Veza Sur Brewing Company’s Mangolandia. Veza Sur is a brewery out of Miami. This brew was light and refreshing. As blonde ales go, it was not overly sweet and had a medium body and carbonation. The mango flavor was subtle and not overpowering. It was a perfect post-race celebration beer! We were so happy when we found it at ABC this week at home, along with other beers in their lineup that we can’t wait to try.THAT’S A WRAP!Got a race to share? A great place to eat in your hometown? RED Episode #96: Fort Lauderdale A1A Half Marathon and American Icon Brewery
Send us a textRUNPublix Fort Lauderdale A1A Half Marathon was our training run this weekend. We had to complete a 15-mile training run and the walk to and from the race would give us the distance we needed. Plus have you seen the medal? A turtle! This race has been held for the last 15 years, and they know how to do it right. The course is nice and flat for the most part. The expo was a nice size full of lots of great stuff for runners. The after party at the finish line was great. Did we mention the PR that Dana got! So incredible! We are so happy we found this race and hope to do it again. EATAmerican Icon Brewery has a taproom in Fort Lauderdale that has been open since March, but if you try the food, you’ll think they have been cooking forever. We had a burger special with a fried Mac & Cheese patty. The Backyard Beer Brat was delicious. We could have tons of the AIB Factory Beer Cheese it came with as a dipping sauce. We are fans! We wanted to have a bunch of other items on their menu but had to save room for the beer!DRINKAmerican Icon Brewery has a great selection of beer. Both Aimee and Dana had the 1926 Hefeweizen, named for the power plant where they brew in Vero Beach. Aimee had the Double Red Ale and American Hero NEPA. Dana had the Light My Friar Belgian Quad as well! We will have to go back and try more of their menu for sure as long of these original offerings were very tasty! THAT’S A WRAP!Got a race to share?
