Welcome to the Run Eat Drink Podcast!  This is the podcast where we embark on exciting adventures, combining our love for running, delicious food, and tasty beverages. Whether you’re an elite runner aiming for victory or just starting your “Couch to 5K” journey, we’ve got something for you. Let’s dive into the three pillars of our show:Accomplish (Run): Accomplishment is deeply personal. Are you eyeing a race series win, planning your next “run-cation,” or hoping to set a personal record in your next half-marathon? Each week, we feature fantastic destination races from around the country. Discover scenic courses, learn about the charities they support, and get inspired to lace up those running shoes. And when we’re not on the road, we share interviews, training tips, and insights from our own running journey.Explore (Eat): Running and traveling go hand in hand. As we explore new places, we also explore local cuisine. We seek out hidden gems—the eateries that locals rave about. Bold flavors, interesting dishes, and passion for food—that’s what we’re after. After each race, join us as we wander the city streets, discovering post-race refueling spots. Whether it’s a gastropub, a food truck, or a cozy café, we’ve got dining options to satisfy your cravings.Indulge (Drink): When the running is done, it’s time to unwind. We raise our glasses to celebrate our accomplishments. Local breweries, coffee shops, speakeasies, and watering holes—these are our destinations. From craft beers to artisanal cocktails, we explore the beverage scene. Cheers to a well-deserved drink after crossing the finish line!Join us on this journey of accomplishment, exploration, and indulgence. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a curious foodie, there’s a place for you at the Run Eat Drink Podcast.

Columbian Coffee that takes us back to people watching from a bench the way Walt Disney himself would upon entering the Magic Kingdom.   SPECIAL DISCOUNT ON EXPEDITION ROASTERS ORDERS FOR US! Erick was kind enough to offer a special discount for our listeners! Chef Art helped us bring a little bit of Disney home! EATChef Art Smith has appeared on the Food Network on shows like Chopped and is famed for being Oprah Winfrey’s personal chef.  He has also authored books like Back to the Table and Kitchen Life: Real Food for Real Families and Back to the Family.  Chef Art Smith is a two-time James Beard Foundation award winner with restaurants in Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando, Washington, D.C., and many more.  He’s been on television shows like Top Chef Masters and The Today Show.  Talking with him about his excellent restaurants and amazing southern comfort food made our mouths water! DRINKChef Art Smith has some great beverages at his restaurants.  He has Moonshine at  Homecomin’ in Disney Springs, and we want to get to his Atlanta restaurant, Southern Art and Bourbon Bar, for some fantastic bourbon-based cocktails, too, when it reopens.  It was great to get a little bit of the story and inspiration behind some of the signature cocktails at his restaurants.   Support the showTHAT’S A WRAP! One of the biggest highlights of the weekend was interviewing Meb Keflezighi, who is an inspiration to us. He is the only man to win a silver medal in the Olympics (Athens 2004), win NYC Marathon (2009), and win the Boston Marathon (2014). Watching his success was inspiring to us, but even more than that, his humility and the way he lives his life with faith, family, and education as top priorities is a key reason he inspires those around him.  He also has a foundation and through it helps support and encourage people with goals in much the same way he was supported by his family, his faith, and the community around him.  We interviewed him at the Expo and wanted to bring you that interview in its entirety. We will feature the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic, Kojak’s House of Ribs, and Tampa Bay Brewing Company in a full episode later this week.THAT’S A WRAP!Thanks for watching!  Please subscribe and rate us in iTunes. Still, they demonstrate how awesome the craft beer community is in Southwest Florida and how we can’t wait to feature them in an upcoming episode, even if we have featured them in previous ones. The anniversary draft list includes:Fort Myers Brewing Company Birthday Cake PorterPoint Ybel Brewing Company Pendennis the MenaceBury Me Brewing Company DDH Nenzit Russian ImperialMomentum Brewhouse Death Before Sour MixBig Top Brewing Company Unicorn TearsAnd finally, in this Quick Bite, we feature the Lazy Wings.  Truly genius, these wings include a sauce with everything you need, with no sides or dipping sauces required.Stay tuned throughout this week and next for Quick Bites and an entire episode featuring great food and beverages from Nice Guys Pizza.  They mean so much to us that we can't help but celebrate them for a whole week of Quick Bites and our episode featuring the Cape Cops 5k!Thank you for watching! If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.Next up, a chat with someone who gave us some of the most authentic Mexican cuisine we have ever had and in the most unexpected place, Kentucky!  Marcos Valdes!Welcome to Quick Bite #73!In this Quick Bite, Aimee gets a few minutes with Marcos Valdes, Chef-Owner of Papi's Mexican Restaurant and Bar.While we ran the Bluegrass, Marcos was busy running around the restaurant, making drinks, checking on food quality, mentoring employees, and spending time with guests!  The restaurant, located in an upstairs spot just a few blocks off the UK campus, has only been open for about eight months but the food, much of which comes from family recipes, tastes like it's been perfected over many, many years. We started with the house chips and salsa.  The chips were warm, and the house salsa was fresh, with a slight heat and smokiness of chile d'arbol.  We had an appetizer created by Marcos', a crock filled with poblano pepper and onion, with a rich cream sauce and baked with queso fresco.  It's served with flour tortillas for dipping or making "messy tacos," and it is worth a trip back to Kentucky just for that!  Marcos said the Street Tacos were his most popular item, and after having them, we can see why! Soft, doubled-up corn tortillas topped with beef, chicken, pork, or...hibiscus?   Yep, Papi's has some fantastic vegetarian and vegan options as well.  If Papi's is this good just eight months in, we can't wait to see what the future holds.  Check them out online at www.papislex.com.  You can also find them on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/papislex/Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/papislex/THAT'S A WRAPThank you for listening! If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.Next up is another special interview with Jeff Galloway about hot weather running.  We thought: It's summer, it's hot, it's humid, and we have a  great coach whose timeless tips will get us through this part of our training season no matter the year.   RUNWe are privileged to help celebrate our running coach’s 75th birthday this week!  Jeff Galloway, America’s Coach and ours, turns 75 on July 12th!  There is no way we could ever thank him for the inspiration, expertise, support, friendship, and love he has shown us.  We are so lucky to have him on the show this week.First, we want to tell everyone about his 75th Birthday Challenge.   There are many ways to help him celebrate.  You can do 75 miles in July, 7.5 miles on July 12th, 75 laps around a track or 1/4-mile segments, or a 75-lap relay.  You get an official race number and website to log your miles and an e-certificate for completing your challenge!Second, of course, we want to share his expertise.  The summer running season is upon us, and we need to run safely when we are outside.  The dramatic rise in heat and humidity requires us to train smart.  Jeff shares tips and tricks for combating the heat and being successful in the heart of the summer. Here’s a link to his article recapping his tips for running in the heat.https://www.jeffgalloway.com/2007/06/15/dealing_with_th/If you are looking for a virtual race, we have a discount code for the Virtual Pace Series website to offer everyone in the Runcation Nation.  Use RUNEATDRINK10 at their website to get 10% off any event!  We will be doing one soon!  EATDunedin is a town that we were able to visit when we were away in Clearwater visiting family last month.  We were introduced to Dunedin Brewery during the Fit Foodie Run on Episode 14 of our show.  Their brewery is so beautiful.  It looks like a castle set back in the Medieval Times.  There is seating indoors, the tanks where they brew their delicious beer, and well-shaded outdoor seating.  We had Fried Pretzel Bites with Brown Ale Mustard and Beer Cheese.    They were so tasty.  The pretzel was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside with just the right amount of salt.  The mustard was tangy, and the beer cheese was warm, melty, and just the right amount of bite in flavor.  DRINKSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! 5th Anniversary Flashback RED Episode 4: Run Walk Run with Jeff Galloway

5th Anniversary Flashback RED Episode 4: Run Walk Run with Jeff Galloway

Send us a textIt's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.Next up is our very first BIG interview on the show and the first time we talked with Olympian and America’s Coach, Jeff Galloway.Welcome back to Run Eat Drink Podcast!  In this episode, I want to share the method I use for races of all distances.  I discovered his method in January 2011, when I ran my first half marathon at Walt Disney World.  I was an inexperienced runner who found a book online with a running schedule, tried to follow it, and headed to the race.  Mistakes were made.  I would describe that experience as painful and a real struggle, although I crossed the finish line with my husband and accomplished the goal.  At the race expo, Jeff gave a motivational talk about his method.  He talked about taking walk breaks so you can finish strong.  Those walk breaks are short, 30 seconds or less,  and protect you from running out of gas at the end of the race.  He said it does not matter whether you are trying to qualify for Boston or complete your first race. You can use this method to pass others at the end, finish with a smile, and still have the energy to celebrate afterward. When we got home and started to train for our next race, his words were in the back of my mind.  I researched and found that he had a whole program and that there was "an app for that" from LoloFit. It gives you a training plan based on your goal and a recommended ratio for running and walking. Jeff's voice tells you when to run and when to walk and drops in occasionally with motivation and encouragement to keep going during the workouts.  I cannot tell you what a difference it made in training, motivation, and performance.  I became one of his e-coach clients and have been an avid supporter ever since! On Sunday, August 6th, 2017, America's Coach and Olympian Jeff Galloway hosted a 3-hour running school in Orlando, Florida, at the Track Shack. This gave me an excellent opportunity to share what his method is all about and why it works. It was such a great experience,  and afterward, we sampled some tasty food and beverages right around the corner at Santiago's Bodega.Jeff took the time to do an interview with us, and he gave us so much great information, so we are breaking up his interview into three separate podcast episodes.  This is the first part of his chat with us. Jeff talks about the history of the run-walk-run method and how he became "America's Coach."  In part two, we will explore the science behind the technique, and in the final part of his interview with us, Jeff shaSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community. First up, The Tampa Beer Run.  Just a spoiler, your host is a huge dork! Hey, Everyone!  Welcome to our first episode, where we head to Tampa, Florida, for the Tampa Beer Run.  Yes, we get to sample beer on the course, but more importantly, this run raises funds for My Hope Chest, which helps women pay for reconstructive surgery after their courageous battles with breast cancer.  After the run, we need to refuel, and what better way than to sample Tampa on a plate at the Columbia Restaurant.  Our final stop on this trip is Cigar City Brewing, where you can spot the rolling of cigars and a long line of tasty beer on tap, and ours is just a sampling of their libations.  For more information, check out the show notes below.MY HOPE CHESTConnect with My Hope Chest at their website and learn about their upcoming 5K Glow Run in April 2018, also in the Tampa area.AL LOPEZ PARKThis is a beautiful park that is flat and easy race.  There was no time limit or specific pace per mile you needed to adhere to, so this race is great for beginners or run/walkers.TAMPA BEER RUN ON FACEBOOKWe paid a reasonable entry fee of $45 and added a VIP ticket for $12 more to get a couple of extra beers at the after-party, souvenir Tampa Beer Run glasses, and a white cotton t-shirt.COLUMBIA RESTAURANTThis Tampa staple has been around since 1905, and we happened to sample these:Crab CroquetteSpanish Bean Soup1905 SaladCuban SandwichCIGAR CITY BREWINGAt this brewery, there are some fantastic beers, and here is a list of a few we recommend:Pollona! The 5K is back after a two-year hiatus and there was a bonus event, the 15K Relay, too, happening on the same course at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds.  This race was a great tour of some sights in the downtown Jacksonville area close to one of our favorite breweries, Intuition Ale Works.  The murals in this area are unique, too.  The medal includes the signature running breast cancer ribbon.  We were so happy to do this race with our Runcation Nation crew who came to meet up with us.   It was such a fun experience.  We loved Fitz Koehler, our race announcer and a cancer survivor herself, who made the experience great, too! EATV Pizza gave us a fantastic meal while we were in Jacksonville.  They have several locations.  We headed to the one right on Jacksonville Beach and that we would pass during our half marathon race over the weekend.  We had great pasta, wings, and calzone offerings from the menu. The pizzas looked great from that wood fire oven, too! They were slammed on a Saturday night.  It’s great thing to see at a local joint, and a good reminder that you want to allot some extra time when exploring new places around town on a race weekend.  DRINKFlask and Cannon provides the libations for this V Pizza location in tSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! It was even better experiencing it with two members of our Runcation Nation, Josh and Dawn. Thank you for making the start to the weekend so much fun.EATWe were with our crew at Reve Brewing.  It is the home of some unique brews and Bones Pizza.  We had appetizers, pizzas, and desserts that were so flavorful.  The House Bread with pesto sauce was a great starter.  The Caesar salad was yummy as well.Their pizzas are so flavorful.  We had one with fig, proscuitto, and balsamic glaze. There were so many with the perfect combination of flavors.  We would come back again to try more of their unique creations.DRINKReve Brewing has hazy, sour, and imperial beer.  Plus all things slushees with beer.  We had to try a few selections.  Their flavors are true to the styles they are drawn to create.  There are shorter pours to try, rather than flights, so you can have justSupport the showTHAT’S A WRAP! We will see you soon from Jacksonville!The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend started with a Social Shakeout Run on Friday. It was a 5k to get us going for the fun weekend of running ahead, but it also gave us the chance to sit down with three incredible people who started this race weekend. It was such an honor to talk with these three and learn how this weekend got its roots. Thank you so much to Amanda Napolitano, Executive Director of the Donna Foundation, who arranged this time for us to chat!Donna Deegan is the Chief Eternal Optimist of the Donna Marathon Weekend and the Donna Foundation. Dr. Edith Perez is a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic. Finally, a fantastic friend of our podcast and America’s Coach, Jeff Galloway, is the one who suggested that Donna start it all when they spotted each other at an Expo for the Gate River Run. They talk about the history of the race, the advancements in research and the families it has supported, and the reasons this weekend is a must-do and such a special race weekend.  It is one that we plan to do every year to honor those we have lost to breast cancer, but also to experience one of the best running block parties we have ever been to in our running career! To find out about the race weekend, go to www.breastcancermarathon.com, and to support the foundation go to www.thedonnafoundation.org. THAT’S A WRAPThank you for watching! Flashback to Episode 150: A Conversation About Donna Marathon Weekend with Executive Director of the Donna Foundation, Amanda Napolitano

Send us a textThis week, we return to our chat with the Executive Director of the Donna Foundation, Amanda Napolitano. We spoke with her back in January 202, when the Donna Marathon Weekend went virtual amid the pandemic. We want to revisit it as we head into our return to the weekend live in Jacksonville. Her spirit and passion are contagious! This is the way to kick off the week heading into the 15th anniversary of the race weekend. The Donna Foundation is focused on a fundraising goal with the Weaver Challenge this year. Amanda says the foundation is pushing toward a $200,000 milestone as we approach the weekend, then ultimately to a $300,000 goal to meet the challenge and receive a $50,000 matching gift. The progress meter is here, and to donate or fundraise, folks should go here. The foundation serves increasingly more families with the pandemic impacts, so these funds are critical.Beyond that, Runcation Nation, those running with us, running virtually, or being members of our cheer squad… let’s get ready to make the weekend a big celebration of love and survivorship!!! As Amanda said in her latest message to me, “Let joy lift your feet. That’s what it’s all about.” You can also support The Donna Foundation and get podcast swag.  Go to https://www.runeatdrink.net/donna to find out more.Support the showTHAT’S A WRAP! Seeing him at the finish line of a tough race was a highlight of the weekend.   EAT We took a recommendation from a member of the Runcation Nation for our carb-loading meal for this race.  No.246 is a great little Italian restaurant in Decatur that Tyler (@tyler.d.johnson on instagram) recommended to us.  Not too far outside Atlanta, we had another member of the Runcation Nation, Jojo, who was our “Uber” driver give us a lift and go to dinner with us there.  She also took copious notes and deserves a producer credit for this episode!  It did not disappoint from the appetizer to the main courses.  The wait staff is knowledgeable.  Next time, we want to go and sit at the Chef’s Table to see how they create these delicious dishes!  (Important tip: Make a Reservation.  This is a very popular place!) DRINK No.246 has an extensive list of cocktails and wine to choose from, so we all tried some, while of course, drinking plenty of water.  This week, we talk about the drinks we had. (Spoiler alert: Aimee actually got some wine!  We are trying to achieve our 2021 goal… so late.. of getting into some wine on the show!).  All our choices were tasty and we’d recommend coming here and asking the wait staff about the drinks if you can’t decide.  Rachel, our server, pointed us in the right direction for sure!   THAT’S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! This week, we break down the pre-race festivities, race course, and medal.EATThe Thanksgiving Holiday marked the end of Dana’s 75 Hard Challenge and Aimee’s birthday.  We celebrated both at a Tampa staple on the way home from the Turkey Trot.  Charley’s Steak House has time-honored traditions, flavorful steak, and amazing sides that could have been meals all on their own!  The service is impeccable and our meal will not be soon forgotten. DRINKCharley’s Steak House also has a very strong cocktail menu.  The Pappy’s Rose Lemon Drop and Washington “Steak” Apple were tasty.  We also had an Espresso Martini with dessert. There is something for everyone on this drink menu! THAT’S A WRAP!Thank you for listening! We are looking forward to YEAR NUMBER 5 of the podcast because of all your support! We did this one last year and it was well-attended with more registered runners this year, which was great to see.  EATAfter the 5K at the Anchorage RunFest back in August,  we really indulged by returning to and celebrating at Glacier Brewhouse.  Last time we were there, we had a special occasion kind of meal.  Good news:  reservations are taken on Open Table and we highly recommend them.  This time we had appetizers to share and they did not disappoint.  We recorded our reactions as we ate the meal.  It was great to see Glacier Brewhouse is still going strong.  DRINKGlacier Brewhouse has their own original brews and we couldn’t help ourselves.  You know what that means!  We both had flights and recorded our reviews as we tasted them!  We are so glad that this place stood the test of the last two years.  They have a variety of styles and do each of them well.THAT’Support the showTHAT’S A WRAP!
