The John H. Watson Society
The weekly podcast of the John H. Watson Society
January 2, 2023 -- A New Year for the Immortal Watson
Probably no news you haven't already heard and heard again this week, but always something you didn't expect to hear. Also, author Margaret Walsh chats with bull pup Maddy, and "Speed 2: Cruise Control" comes up for a reason you won't believe (and probably shouldn't!). It's Watson time!
21:1902/01/2023
Blue Carbuncle Eve Special: A Christmas Goose
For Blue Carnuncle eve, bull pup Calder gives a reading of "A Christmas Goose" by Mary O'Reilly. Gather your Watsonian family around the radio and enjoy!

December 26, 2022 -- Watson, Food, and Theatre, with Our Seasonal Compliments!
Bull pup Maddie finds David McDowell Blue for her Watson questions this week, bull pup Buck answers a question about food, bull pup Roxie finds a pickle in the Canon, and who was that young footballer who . . . well, we just won't think such things of Mrs. Watson, no, sir! Compliments of the season, it's Watson time!
21:1326/12/2022
December 19, 2022 -- Watson, Babies, and Audio Crime
This week, we fulfull that part of our theme song about audio crime, as technical difficulties make the sound less than perfect in one segment, and a musical with only thirty minutes of rehearsal and a cast so limited the director sings most of the songs (and not well). One of our cast was actually performing to win a bet. But you still want to hear the part about Watson and babies, right? As Sherlock Holmes once said, "It is the season of forgiveness," and we hope our all listeners are as much like Sherlock Holmes as we know they certainly are. Compliments of the season!
23:3419/12/2022
December 12, 2022 -- If Watson Could TIme Travel . . .
If Watson could time travel, would he listen to this episode? It might not be his first choice, but eventually he might want to hear what Olivia Kirkendall thought about him. That, and no mention of Deshaun Watson at all, this week in Watsonian Weekly's fifteen minutes of pod!
16:4412/12/2022
December 5, 2022 -- A Long-Necked Watson Is Born
Josh Harvey is Bull Pup Maddy's special guest on "Wondering About Watson" this week, Bull Pup Buck takes an old Sherlockian art form to new levels, Bull Pup Roxie rhymes of Watson's wife, and what else was Watson's Literary Agent trying as a side gig this time? The game is a-Watson!
18:0205/12/2022
November 28, 2022 -- Watson Gets Stinky!
A suprise guest reminds us of one of Watson's oddest friends. The John H. Watson Society guesses at Holmes's laconic messages. And bull pup Buck fulfills a bull pup's bull pup wish with an amazing swiftness. And what do you stuff Turkey with in the early 1900s? Plenty to find out about this week!
20:1527/11/2022
November 21, 2022 -- A Whole Lotta Gillette for a Watson Podcast!
This week, we've got not one, but two special guests on the podcast thanks to the gregarious Bull Pup Maddy! We learn of some Bull Pups that came before the John H. Watson Society breed, learn what "a thick 'un" is, and fill out a whole half hour this time in doing so.
29:0720/11/2022
November 14, 2022 -- Well, At Least There's A Pig!
The episode might be a little short, but there's a pig Watson, a punchy Watson, a doppelganger Watson, and Watson's actual shoe size along the way. One to next week!
10:4514/11/2022
November 7, 2022 -- NO SPOILERS UNTIL THE END!
Nothing to see here but a normal Watsonian Weekly, but at the place where the show normally ends, Rob Nunn shows up to discuss Enola Holmes 2. So you can listen to most of the episode spoiler free, if you worry about such things. Unless you worry about a certain literary agent's reputation too, then you might get bogged down about the time Bull Pup Buck shows up . . . but test your limits! It's Watsonian Weekly time!
28:4907/11/2022
October 31, 2022 -- Hallowatson!
Since we never plan special holiday episodes, everyone is pretty normal except the host, and . . . well, you know how he is. The Watson facts and fun are flying like a witch on a broom, though, so let your ears have a trick or treat with the Watsonian Weekly!
15:4031/10/2022
October 24, 2022 -- Monstrous Butter Tart Wipers and Watson
The John H. Watson Society spends some time talking about Watson's potential as a monster, Buck gets a question about wipers, Roxy waxes poetic, and Maddy tosses a popular Watson on to the rugby field. All that and 10% more! It's Watson time!
21:5424/10/2022
October 17, 2022 -- Treason Watson and That Knocking Thing
John H. Watson, monster-killer, ladies man, and a few other things that will come up this week as we give our hero his Monday morning fifteen minutes of fame.
14:5417/10/2022
October 10, 2022 -- Watson Gets His Own Series?
With news this past week of a brand new TV series about John Watson in development, bull pups Buck, Maddie, and Calder get together on Zoom for a round table on what that could mean, making a long arm and sweeping all the normal features off onto the floor for this week to discuss it.
24:3910/10/2022
October 3, 2022 -- Can Lucy Liu Play Rugby?
Have you spent enough time thinking about Watson this week? Have any of us? Here's another fifteen minutes for you to add to your weekly Watson resume with . . . oh, it's just fifteen minutes, listen and find out!
15:2803/10/2022
September 26, 2022 -- The Clark Russell Challenge!
We get through the Watson news pretty quick in this extra long episode, but then we test our listeners' endurance with a reader's theatrical adaptation of a novel by one of Watson's favorite writers. Take the Clark Russell Challenger and see if you can make it to the end of this week's episode!
37:3326/09/2022
September 19, 2022 -- Stock Brown Greeting Cards for Watson!
Which Watson taught Holmes, what was Watson's favorite colour, and why are we talking about greeting cards? Most of those answers are in the title of this episode, but it'll only cost you ten minutes to find out the rest, as the host is having a bit of an off week. It's Watson time!
11:5719/09/2022
September 12, 2022 -- Can Watson Go On A BLT?
More mentions of tomatoes on this week's podcast that in the entire first forty years of Sherlockian publishing! And the return of the non-Watson author that we love to talk about, especially in September.
16:0712/09/2022
September 5, 2022 -- A Theme and an Intervention
How does the musical ear of Josh Harvey hear a meeting of the John H. Watson Society? Who had a tendo achilles? Do mice play rugby? And why did Watson's friends take him to the movies in 1927? Quite a week for the Watsonians this Weekly!
16:2505/09/2022
August 29, 2022 -- The Worst Watson Tournament
The John H. Watson Society works out the worst Watson on screens, bull pup Maddie works out a Granada Watson's rugby skills, bull pup Roxie rhymes the Musgrave story, bull pup Buck gives Watson's real middle name, and what might Watson's literary agent have done in 1900 to get on the doctor's good side? All this and . . . well, all that . . . this week on the Watsonian Weekly.
22:1229/08/2022
August 22, 2022 -- The Scintillating Eight Knot Tramp

12:0021/08/2022
August 15, 2022 -- Acushla Hardwick
What's the hardest part of the John H. Watson Society's annual treasure hunt? Who can baffle the Best of Blackheath decider? And what do cucumbers have to do with anything? These, and other answers to questions you didn't really care about, but will listen to for fifteen minutes. (Or thereabouts.)
14:2715/08/2022
August 8, 2023 -- Digging for Watson in a Couple Hundred Objects
We've got a treasure hunt master as a guest, some live reporting from Indiana, and an actual rugby player explaining rugby for American listerners. Your fifteen minutes of Watson is here!
15:3508/08/2022
August 1, 2022 -- Calculations, German Poetry, Cigarettes and Watson
This episode wanders all over the map in its pursuit of John H. Watson, so buckly up. Still, only about fifteen minutes, so the ride will be over pretty quickly.
15:2931/07/2022
July 25, 2022 -- Yo' Watson Got So Much Podcast . . .
Bull Pup Maddie gives the scoop on the latest and greatest Doctor Watson, Bull Pup Roxie has a shocking poetic revelation about the Honourable Philip Green, and Bull Pups Buck and Calder have it out over whose headcanon Watson is the worst. You may want to listen to this one, just so you know what the Sherlockians at the water cooler are going on about this Monday.
19:4925/07/2022
July 18, 2022 -- Somebody takes it in the face. Will It be Watson?
Somehow if you put all this together, a surprising assassin in Afghanistan turned Watson sexy. And yet Maddy is unsure if one of him could do rugby. Is it all connected? Have you listened to this podcast before? Of course not. But here ya go!
12:5618/07/2022
July 11, 2022 -- News, News, News, News, Bees, and News!
Bull pup Maddie gets our news feed up to date with some events catch-up, bull pup Roxie double-takes "A Case of Identity," bull pup Buck has info on Holmes and bees you've NEVER heard before, and bull pup Calder should be fired for at least two things on this episode. It's an extra long one! (Well, for us!)
23:1611/07/2022
July 4, 2022 -- Could Watson Box A Russian Zombie Holmes?
While it might be an American holiday weekend, Doctor Watson is still on his rounds. Sandy Kozinn does give us a version of Hound that poetically suits the Fourth, Paul answers Rob Nunn's burning question, and Madeline speculates on a Russian Watson's potential for rugby. Think the Literary Agent isn't taking ten percent of an episode like that? Think again!
13:0203/07/2022
June 29, 2022 -- Watson's Pension Dominates Summer?
This week we hear from the John H. Watson Society, who would clearly rather talk about Watson's army pension than his summer beach parties. Bull Pup Buck gives us a final, authoritative answer about Watson running with a wounded leg. Bull Pup Maddie decides a certain unpopped pea fan's sporty potential. And Bull Pup Roxie poetically chases the Hound. All this and the necessary ten percent cut for the Literary Agent, as always, the Colonel Tom Parker of Watson's Elvis-like literary stardom. (Disclaimer: Neither Parker nor Presley are mentioned in this episode. Move along.)
15:3027/06/2022
June 20, 2022 -- I Gout Yer James Right Here
It's about Watson somehow. You know this show. And if you don't, WELCOME TO THE PARTY!

Jun 13, 2022 -- Late and Light Watson

08:0113/06/2022
June 6, 2022 -- Fielding Watson's Abernetty Business
This week, our Watson topics hit on a Broadway leading man, a royal execution, a guy named Arthur, and someone who had violet eyes but was not named "Violet." And it's all Watson lore and legend, as it should be! It's Watson time!
16:3505/06/2022
May 28, 2022 -- Did Nigel Bruce Drink Scotch Eggs?
There was a meeting of the John H. Watson Society this week, so things get a little more random than usual. Eggs come up a lot. Watson's drink of choice. Nigel Bruce. Five Orange Pips. And that's just for starters.
18:3230/05/2022
May 22, 2022 -- Ignoring Mary Some More
In this episode, we come to the realization that Mary Morstan Watson isn't getting enough attention, and still pay more attention to a Watson's rugby, his literary agent, and even furze bushes without giving the woman a regular feature.
17:1623/05/2022
May 16, 2022 -- The Agent, The Pirate, and the Dancer
Watson's many facets take us quite a few places this week -- from Kipling to a pirate we've never heard of to the atheleticism of Colin Blakely. And remember, once you've paid attention to something, you can't get a refund!
18:2815/05/2022
May 9, 2022 -- Chicago, Phelps, a robot, and an umbrella
"What four patients did Dr. Watson would not want to have on his rounds?" is the Jeopardy answer to this week's title. You also get Valhalla and the real reason Moran shot at Holmes, in addition to those things, so now you definitely have to listen.
25:5609/05/2022
May 2, 2022 -- Watch Out For The Bear!
May is a sort of vacation time for Watson we find, along with his best rugby version, a friendly bear, and perhaps the inspiration for him writing up his memoirs?
14:2701/05/2022
April 25, 2022 -- Fresh Horses For Watson
It's a full bull pup pack this week, with all our regulars, as well as the John H. Watson Society, a secret Rathbone appearance, and a taste of this month's missing episode. If you ever think the Watson isn't going well at any point in this episode, hold on! It will definitely get worse!
23:2824/04/2022
April 18, 2022 -- The 221B Con 2022 Report
In a double-host, double-sized episode, bull pups Calder and Maddy review as much of 221B Con 2022 as they could remember -- though there's always more con than anything less than a full team could cover. Also, Watson and exit-ramp restaurants.
36:5018/04/2022
April 4, 2022 -- Will Watson be at 221B?
It's the week before 221B Con, and that's where the attention is focused this week. How much Watson can we expect at the con? Let's look!
19:2704/04/2022
March 27, 2022 -- Watson's Last Day?
After a smattering of news, we get into a bit of the thoughts on Watson's final day out there, his friend Stamford, and the Crooked and Creeping choices for longevity. Also, "gaunt."
11:4527/03/2022
March 21, 2022 -- Limericks, Lestrade, and Lucy
Having missed our regular features last week, we're going all in with Roxy's Bull Pup Poetry Corner, Bull Pup Buck's Friends of Watson, and even a Watson's Word of the Week!
13:1720/03/2022
March 14, 2022 -- Holmes, Doyle & Friends: 2021-B
The annual Dayton, Ohio conference "Holmes, Doyle & Friends" was back in person this year, and we managed to get a little audio from presenters and attendees at the conference. WARNING: It was pretty much all recorded in a karaoke bar and the ambiance will definitely reflect that.
13:0414/03/2022
March 7, 2022 -- Maximum Lomax, Mini Episode
Is this episode practically all about Lomax, Watson's pal at the London Library? Yes, it is. And we find a possible schism between Holmes and Watson along the way. Got ten minutes? That's all this one takes!
09:3007/03/2022
February 28, 2022 -- A Very Bad, Evil, Wicked Watson
This week, we're just letting the John H. Watson talk about how very, very, very bad Watson could possibly have been, if he was secretly a serial killer. Yep, this one's dark.
22:4528/02/2022
February 21, 2022 -- Sitting Room with Murderer
One of our bull pups has made a mess on Watson's virtue this week, and another pup can't keep from rolling in it. There's a Whitney, a Garrideb, and a whole lot of murders coming at you this week!
17:5121/02/2022
February 14, 2022 -- Watson Arrested for Murder!
With a rare find in an 1893 newspaper, Paul Thomas Miller gives us a reading of Watson's arrest after "Final Problem" came out in The Strand Magazine. And there is some wild stuff here!
21:0214/02/2022
February 6, 2022 -- Testing Your Watson
A little shorter episode this week abounding with tests of Watson knowlege, a touch or two of "Three Students," and an exquisite word of the week.
10:1107/02/2022
January 31, 2022 -- "Oh, Henry!" sayeth the Watson?
It's a short episode this week, featuring Henry Baskerville, a vampire manuscript, a Boscombe poem, and an old Avenger. Go for it, it won't take long.
12:1531/01/2022
January 24, 2022 -- Body Parts and Brackenstall
There's some weird speculation in the middle of this one, but it gets back to business by the end, looking into a "peculiar" point in Holmes and Watson's relationship. Paul sings, Sandy recites, and Brad just goes on.
20:5024/01/2022
