393. It is Possible to Enjoy Your Holiday Season and Crush it in Business, Here’s How
We are just about 100 days away from the Holiday season, believe it or not! Does that stress you out?We know the Holidays can be busy and hectic, but 100 days is plenty of time to prepare and make sure you’re ready to crush it in your business—all while still being able to enjoy the Holidays yourself. We’re going to help you pre-plan so that you feel as prepared as you can. When it comes to getting ready for the Holidays, there are three main things that are important to prepare for:Time: We all have a limited amount of time every day; you need to be clear about how much time you want to spend on your business, and how much you want to spend with your family. If you don’t prepare for this beforehand, you’re going to find more time than you’d like going right into your business.Scaling: Being busier can mean more work, but not if you scale properly. Going back to the focus on time, you’ll want to figure out how you can get more work done without eating up all of your time.Focus: When you’re clear on what you want to accomplish in your business, it becomes easier to make time for those things that really matter. We go over all of this and more in The Product Boss’ Guide to Getting Holiday-Ready. And best of all: it’s free! If you’re feeling the stress now but you’d rather feel ease when the Holidays arrive, sign up for this exclusive workshop to get prepared for the busiest time of year.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 391. Success Strategies for Going from Side-Hustle to Full-Time Business
So many Product Bosses out there are working a full-time job in addition to running their product-based business—putting in all of the hours. But we don’t think it’s a stretch to say the goal is to take your side-hustle and make it full-time.We’re going to share some of the success strategies you can use right now to go from side-hustle to full-time business that students of our Multi-Stream Machine program have used, as well as examples from our own lives. Our four strategies for going full-time are:Knowing how much you need to make to feel comfortable leaving your job, setting a timeline for hitting your goals, buying back your time with delegation and knowledge acquisition, andhaving a commitment to your goal. When you put all of these into place, what you get is a realistic plan for achieving your goals, the confidence to get it done, and an attitude that will allow you to take massive action towards making it a reality.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 390. How Highlighting Overlooked Holidays Created a Thriving Business with Sarah Gulfraz of Peacock Supplies
For this Small Biz Founders episode, Masterminder Sarah Gulfraz comes to us all the way from across the pond—that’s England, FYI—where she runs Peacock Supplies as founder. Peacock Supplies offers party and gift supplies specializing in multicultural and multi faith celebrations. They sell both to stock international retailers, independent stockers around the world and direct to consumer. It’s pretty common to see Christmas, Easter, and many of the predominant faith-based holidays represented and celebrated throughout the world, but for anyone who falls outside of that religion, they may not see their holidays represented at all—at least not with the same amount of energy and excitement. We talk about:Sarah’s entrepreneurial influences, how her early work experiences shaped her for business, andwhere she gets her drive to always be innovating. Many of the best business ideas come from meeting a need that you have. Sarah wanted to address a problem she noticed when trying to get her kids as invested in her personal holidays as they were with the mainstream ones, and now she provides that to people around the world.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 388. Making Big Business Shifts & Beating the Odds with Danielle Beauregard of Fusion by Design Collars
Danielle Beauregard is the CEO and founder of Fusion by Design Collars which sells, as she jokingly calls it, “bougie collars for dogs.” They craft high-end leather collars and leashes, many of them custom-made, and embellish them with Austrian crystals, leather carvings, and paint. She started her business purely by accident. After leaving her comfy corporate IT job to start a business in dog training, she began using her longtime hobby of leathercrafting to make collars for her dogs, and that quickly spread by word of mouth as she fulfilled individual orders until The Virus That Shall Not Be Named hit and service-based industries dried up. She quickly had to pivot into focusing on those dog collars and leveraging her existing network to make that her full-time job. You’re going to hear Danielle give us the honest details about:How to pivot when life circumstances unexpectedly change, why you shouldn’t do everything in your business even when you can do everything, andbeing open to new business models as your business grows. In just over two years, Danielle has turned something she did on the side into over a quarter million dollars in revenue. She got there through acting fast, using the skills she already had, and hiring—even when she felt like she could do everything herself. And now, with the help of the Mastermind, she’s going to take her business to the next level.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 384. How Lori Harder is Building a Women-First Company in Lite Pink
We’ve talked before about our journey to becoming investors in Lite Pink, a women-led beverage company founded by Lori Harder with a mission of empowering other women and sparking conversations. Now we’re excited to dive further into her story with the woman herself! She shares her inspiring story. Lori had a small, isolated life growing up—she grew up in a small town, was homeschooled, and had a very restrictive religious upbringing. Once she started branching out she found that it was really hard to make friends, especially quality ones. She knew she was meant for something bigger. And as she pursued that, she realized that there is only so much that you can do by yourself. You need a network, a tribe, to help you in life. That’s where her business started, and that’s at the core of what she does today. She also talks about:Making the most of unexpected delays, creating genuine connections, andasking for help in building your business. The biggest message we took away from this conversation is that you are never alone. Whether it’s the struggles you face in your business, the problems you’re trying to solve in your own life, or the message you’re trying to shout out to the world—there are people with you where you’re at that you can create a community around.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 383. Trend Alert: Consumers are Paying for Wellness
We don’t advocate chasing trends at all—some of the best marketing tips out there are timeless. But following trends can be helpful in influencing the direction and flavor of your marketing so that it speaks to what matters to your customers and the world at large. And today, one of the hottest trends that customers are hungry for is wellness. The wellness industry is bringing in $1.5 trillion dollars annually, and consumers are looking for wellness across every purchasing category. But what actually is wellness, and how can it apply to your product if you’re not specifically in that market?According to a report by McKenzie & Co., consumers view wellness across these six categories:Better health, better fitness, better nutrition, better appearance, better sleep, andbetter mindfulness.Even if you don’t fit into one of these categories, you can certainly market to them. As long as you understand that wellness is important to consumers, you can highlight the ways your product ties into wellness. You don’t have to change what you’re doing or start a new business, but it is valuable to understand what your customer values in their life. When you can relay the value of wellness in your business so that it speaks to your customers in a way that resonates, you are going to see results.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 381. How You Should Really Be Using Social Media for Your Business
If you’ve been following business coaches or anyone offering entrepreneurial advice online over the past ten years, you’ve probably been told—in no uncertain terms—that you need social media for your business. And yet, for many of us, social media just isn’t fun and we’re not seeing direct business results from it. So is it true? And if you need social media, how do you actually use it to see results?Whether you’re talking about Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or whatever platforms come out in the future, we’re going to dive into what social media is for, what it can do for your business, and what you should be posting.Things change very quickly on social media, so it’s hard to look at common advice from even just a year ago and apply it today. But let’s look at a kind of marketing that’s been around forever: TV commercials. Now, remember the last commercial you watched? They weren’t telling you to buy now. They were just trying to make you aware of the brand or product and paint a positive picture of what your life would look like with it. You still have to go to the store and find the product and put it in your cart and buy it, but you aren’t likely to do any of that if you’ve never heard of the brand before. That’s called brand recognition, and it’s what you need to be doing on social media today. In order to build brand recognition on social media, you need to:prove that you exist by putting things out there, share what your customer needs to hear to know, like, and trust you, andoffer a “window shopping” experience to show your customers that you meet their needs, wants, and desires. It’s important that you get started with this process early because it takes time to build relationships. You aren’t going to see direct sales like so many people expect, but if you start establishing brand recognition and building trust now, come the holiday season, people will feel more comfortable buying from you.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 376. Growing an Iconic Brand with Jaclyn Johnson of Create & Cultivate
Jaclyn Johnson is one of the most incredible people out there – helping other small business owners grow and scale their businesses and bringing thousands of women together with her company. She’s an entrepreneur and product boss who started both of her companies with nothing but a laptop and an idea. She quickly grew them from self-funded side-projects to multi-million dollar businesses and nationally recognized brands, including the iconic Create & Cultivate.Jaclyn is the multi-hyphenate entrepreneur. Her parents were both entrepreneurs in completely different fields, and she was always involved in their business in some way. It was in her blood and her upbringing. From a young age, Jaclyn was always willing to work hard and do what it took to see her vision come to life.Create & Cultivate was an event ahead of its time. She was early to the blogging game and became a name in the influencer space. As she went to influencer events, she had this realization: There’s no reason we can’t throw events that look and feel beautiful for ambitious women outside of the influencer space. On top of that, it was something that was needed—entrepreneurship is lonely, especially for women, and they need a space where they can connect. Create & Cultivate became that for so many of them! She talks about growing her business, what you need as you’re growing, finding the right community, her experience selling part of Create & Cultivate, and why she invests in female-founded businesses. 373. How to Build Your Business Without Feeling Like You’re Drowning
As a business owner, it's very common to feel overwhelmed, especially when you are starting to scale or grow your business. It's easy to feel like you're drowning and have to do everything on your own to grow your business, but the truth is...you don't!Oftentimes, if you feel like you’re drowning in your business, you may think that you can’t scale because scaling will mean you have to do more, but that’s not the case! Taking your business to the next level doesn’t mean you have to continue living in the overwhelm but rather really allows you to step into the CEO role of your business. One of the best ways to do this is through a focus and stop list- something we taught our Masterminders on their retreat in Arizona. This list helps you to focus your energy on what you do best and should be doing and it also helps you to stop doing things in your business that are preventing you from reaching the next level. We talk about everything from hiring and delegating to revenue drivers to standard operating procedures (SOPs), all things that will help take your business to that next level. 368. How to Improve Your Cash Flow
Money is a huge part of our lives. It’s possible that money is one of the main reasons why you’re a product boss! But oftentimes, we see people make the mistake of handling their business finances with the same money mindset they use in their personal life. However, that shouldn’t be the case as they are separate things, and, as such, need to be approached differently. Here’s how.Usually, we want to keep things debt-free, but it can be unrealistic to operate a business – especially a small product business – without debt. We’re not saying you should rack up debt on purpose, but at the same time, you shouldn’t be scared to use the credit options available to you as tools to improve your cash flow. In this episode, we run through three of the best ways to do this, from getting a line of credit to small business loans. Remember, as a product-based business owner, you need to capitalize on ways to improve your cash flow so that you don’t get stuck. To do this, you’ll need to shift away from that debt-free mindset and start using financing and credit as tools to grow your business!Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 367. Learn to Fear Less
As a business owner, you might be familiar with the saying, “You have to be fearless,” but that’s not necessarily true. What we have learned most recently, though, is that you do need to fear less, which is exactly what we are talking about in this episode! Life is scary, but knowing when to fear less is a big part of becoming a successful product boss – and just living your best life in general! As you know, we recently went to Costa Rica, and we want to share with you three transformational experiences we had while we were there that have completely changed the way we think about and view the world. The theme this week is to never be afraid of trying new things – or maybe just to move so quickly that you don’t have a chance to become afraid in the first place. A lot has been going on in the world lately, and many of our fears may be more present than before, so how do we proceed with our lives? Let’s have a difficult, yet necessary conversation. 365. Edit to Expand Method with Pamela Pekerman of Hustle Like a Mom
Pamela Pekerman is the product boss behind Hustle Like a Mom, a company on a mission to support mompreneurs in building bridges between entrepreneurship and mom life. She’s also pioneering her “edit to expand” method. Today, we learn all about how we can handle our to-dos and find focus, all while making our lives smarter, simpler, and more fun!Just like Pamela, we’re both moms so these tips were super appreciated. As a mom, it’s easy to hit burnout before you even realize it because you only get so much time each day between drop off and pick up, where you can really focus. This is why finding and setting your priorities are such an important way to find success. That’s where Pamela’s edit to expand method comes in. Because “you’re not going to eat the whole menu,” it really comes down to choosing the right tasks while making sure the goals you’re setting are actually manageable and realistic. Remember, where you focus is what you get back. It’s easy to find yourself paying for things in three ways: money, time, and energy. So making sure we’re only paying for the right things is really important. That’s not to say we should be paralyzed, worrying about making sure we don’t make a bad decision, but, as Pamela explains, it’s more about regularly reassessing your situation, decoding your community, and being ready for change! Kelly Kussman is one of our Masterminders and she’s doing amazing, motivating, and inspiring things as the founder of Cayla Gray, creators and sellers of clean, luxury brand fragrances. Her Small Biz Founders story will really resonate with you.Cayla Gray produces fragrances and candles, and when they say “clean,” they mean non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and no parabens. They have four core scents – all handmade in Arizona. Kelly started her career with a dream job out of college, selling cosmetics. Since then, she’s taken her passion and turned it into a successful business of her own.Kelly’s dad was an entrepreneur so she grew up around product bosses and always saw it as something exciting that she could aspire toward in her own life. It was scary to walk away from the security of that dream job, but she explains how she found the courage to do it, and why it was one of the best decisions she’s ever made. One of the things Kelly does an incredible job of is telling her brand’s story, and making those connections with her potential customers. As a business owner, you should be sharing your story repeatedly with your audience to build those connections, and draw potential customers into your brand. Knowing the reason why you started your business and being able to share that story with your customers really allows you to connect with and attract the audiences that you want to sell to! 360. Front-of-House vs. Back-of-House for Running Your Product Biz
We’re still coming to you from our hotel room in Costa Rica, and our time here has inspired us to talk about the difference between front and back-of-house. These are hospitality terms, but the principles can be applied to all product businesses.Front-of-house is when you’re facing the customer. Think receptionists in a hotel or wait staff in a restaurant. In a product business, this could be your branding, customer service, or even your brick-and-mortar store. The front-of-house role has a human element to it, meaning that you are interacting with the customers, and making sure they are satisfied with your product and company. Back-of-house is more the operational side of things. In a hotel, this would be the cleaning staff, or, in a restaurant, it would be the chef working in the kitchen. In your business, “back of house” refers to pricing and financials, research and development, production and inventory, or shipping and fulfillment. When you start a business, you’re likely wearing all of the hats within your company. As you start to scale and grow, you’ll need to start delegating to reach that next level in your business. When you’ve reached this point, it’s time for you to decide what your zone of genius is within your company. By doing so, you’re able to really focus on what you’re doing instead of struggling to keep up with all the hats. If this episode resonates with you, you might also be at a point where you’re a perfect candidate for our new Product Biz Accelerator course. 359. Top 4 Mistakes We See Biz Owners Make as They Scale to Six Figures
When we help product bosses level up their businesses, especially those scaling to six figures, there are four common mistakes we see. Let's dive in to see what these mistakes are and how to address them so that you can take your business to the next level. To start off, it’s important to know what “leveling up” actually means. Many people assume it’s increasing your sales, but that isn’t necessarily the case. Sometimes, it’s more important to refine what you’re doing and make it more profitable or streamlined before you start thinking about increasing sales, finding more customers, and so on. It’s easy to spread yourself too thin, and if you don’t have your systems in place, then you won’t be building your business on a solid foundation.More customers can be a great thing, but have you considered alternatives like selling more to your existing customers? We tend to think about social media in terms of algorithms and getting our brand in front of new eyes, but why not think about reminding your current customers that they haven’t purchased anything in a while? This is why we say “refine down to scale up!”Another common mistake product bosses make is trying to launch without a runway. Now, don’t get too caught up in the word “launch,” because this doesn’t just refer to launching your business, it refers to launching anything from a new product to an event or even a sale. Instead of just dropping a new collection, have you tried first building some suspense and anticipation around it? Let your customers know that something is coming, and give them time to get excited about it!These are just two of the mistakes we address in this episode, so make sure you tune in to hear about all four! It could make all the difference as you take your company to the next level.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 358. The Most Successful People Ask Themselves These Four Questions
When people think about success, they often think about intelligence. But there are lots of different types of intelligence. We most commonly think about IQ, but that only shows one small piece of the picture. Another type of intelligence we often hear about is your EQ. That’s your emotional intelligence.Today, we want to introduce you to the concept of the RQ. This is your relationship intelligence. One of the most important factors when it comes to success is how well someone builds and manages their relationships. Relationships cover a lot of different things you might not think about. For example, it’s easy to forget that social media is a form of socializing, and that means we might not realize how much of our mental or emotional energy is being drained when we spend too much time there. It’s worth really thinking about how and who you engage with online. It’s easy to look for validation online, especially as entrepreneurs, when we should really be looking for it within ourselves. As a product boss, you’re probably going to start hiring people at some point (if you haven’t already). Again, our relationship with our employees is one that we really need to be aware of. So many people forget that professional boundaries must be set, and that unfortunately, your staff cannot be your biz besties.Don’t worry, though. It’s completely normal to want to treat people like your friends. Being an entrepreneur can feel lonely. There’s so much responsibility and pressure resting on your shoulders. Just remember that you’re not alone. That’s why we built this community, so that likeminded product bosses can share with and support one another. There are four questions to ask yourself to fully understand your relationships and realign your success. And we take you through each one of them in this episode, so what are you waiting for? Listen now!Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! Commit to making 1 in 5 of your purchases from a small business, whether online or offline. 357. Help! I Feel Like I'm Drowning and I'm the Bottleneck in My Business!
What we’re talking about today doesn’t come down to focus or motivation. It doesn’t matter how hard you work, there comes a time when you will hit capacity. As a solopreneur, that capacity may be physical, mental, or emotional, but the one thing that all of these have in common is that it leads to you becoming the bottleneck of your business. Let's discuss how you can move past this.So what is capacity, really? Maybe you’re a maker and your demand is taking over your supply. If you’re struggling to make enough of your product or even have difficulty with packaging and shipping it, in a timely manner, then you've hit your capacity!Or maybe you’re keeping up with fulfilling your orders but it doesn’t leave you with time for anything else. You need to work on your marketing or bookkeeping, but you don’t have a spare minute in the day. If this sounds familiar then, once again, you're at capacity and you've become the bottleneck in your business. You may find that your capacity is more emotional or mental rather than physical, which is completely normal. But it's important to remember, that once you hit these capacities you must focus on refining and stabilizing before scaling so that your business can continue to grow on a solid infrastructure. When you start out as a solopreneur, you’re doing everything. You’re the one making all the decisions and making everything happen. However, as you enter the growth stage in your business, oftentimes you will need to up level your mindset as well as move past those limiting beliefs you have to remove yourself from being the bottleneck of your business. After listening to this episode, if you're still struggling and want help refining and growing your business to that next level, then be sure to jump on the waitlist for our brand new group coaching program, The Product Biz Accelerator.Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 356. Mom Secrets with Cat & Nat of Mom Truths
Cat and Nat, authors of the bestselling, Mom Truths, join us for a very special, eye-opening, and hilarious episode of The Product Boss to unpack their new book, Mom Secrets, which offers a raw, candid look at what it’s really like to be a mom.So often, we’re our own worst critics. Most parenting books are advice-driven, but this is designed to stop unnecessary feelings of guilt, negative body image, and more. Their work is a reminder that there’s no such thing as perfection. So long as you raise your kids with joy, you should definitely give yourself a break! Cat and Nat are awesome company and some of the confessions in their new book are truly great because, not only are they really funny, but they help to normalize these things we all go through as parents – but sometimes feel too ashamed to admit. That means that they tackle some heavy subjects, but it’s all with such a fun, light spin that it puts a little spring in your step. A lot of the confessions came from audience members at some of their live shows who would drop them into a fishbowl anonymously, so believe us when we say that some of these are genuinely hilarious – dad crushes, anyone? There might be a lot of laughs in this one, but today’s message is ultimately about letting life happen and dealing with it as it comes. That’s a really important piece of truth that more of us need to remember. Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 354. Finding Your Brand Voice with Claire Doody of Copper Union
Claire Doody joins us for another Small Biz Founders episode – and it’s a very special edition, too. Claire is the founder of Copper Union Apparel, making beautiful clothing for radical fat bodies (sizes 12-38). Where, before, options for plus-sized clothing were limited, Copper Union is making unique and individual pieces available for different occasions, and in colors and designs that completely break the traditional plus-sized mold. Claire has created a bold, vibrant line that aligns with herself and her customers. At one point, she only designed what she perceived as trends and demand in the marketplace, but those designs didn’t sell. Then, she’d make an incredibly niche, personal piece, that reflected something she would wear, and that piece would fly off the shelves. This valuable experience is what taught her to follow her gut and trust that what’s true to her is what her customers want as well! Claire has faced many personal and professional challenges, including being diagnosed with cancer, along her journey. However, even after having to take significant time off work, Claire was amazed to come back and be able to continue building Copper Union, without having to start from scratch. One way that Claire did this was by not only using her brand voice to help build a loyal customer base, but also by staying true to herself and following her gut.We discuss all of this and more in this episode, as well as everything from the shape of the industry to the benefits of a Mastermind. What started off as an Etsy shop four years ago has now turned into a multimillion dollar skincare business.Toups & Co Organics is an incredible success story. Not only has the company grown and continues to grow financially, but through the assistance of our Mastermind program and investing in their business, Emilie and her husband, Trent have been able to buy back their time to focus on other things that matter- such as homeschooling their children. In this episode, we talk about getting over the feeling of needing to do everything yourself, the importance of investing in yourself and your business, how you can conduct job interviews properly when you begin hiring in order to make sure that you find the right help and we even discuss paid ads!Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 351. Joy Cho Of Oh Joy! on How She Juggles It All
Joy Cho is the founder and Creative Director of Oh Joy!, a graphic design studio, lifestyle brand, and design company that has collaborated with top brands and organizations from Target to Band-Aid – even The White House. Joy is a master of many trades, having also worked as a graphic designer, blogger, mama of two, consultant for numerous businesses, and having authored six books (with a seventh on the way). She was named one of Time’s 30 Most Influential People on the Internet two years running, and she holds the most popular account on Pinterest with over 15 million followers (something she’s in the Guinness Book of World Records for, by the way). She joins us to discuss her unusual path to profit. It’s an amazing reminder that no one goes on the same journey as anyone else. Whatever you’re doing and wherever you are in life, your path doesn’t necessarily have to look like anyone else’s. There’s a lot to learn from her account of just how her brand took off and, then, leveled up to the huge success story that they are today. We also talk about what it’s like to be the face of your business when you’re an introvert. Joy believes it’s something you can learn, and gives advice for anyone who wants to step into the limelight to sell their products but lacks the confidence to do it. She believes the personal connection you can offer to your company can be really meaningful for your customers, so it’s definitely advice worth taking. This is a wide ranging conversation, where we touch on everything from hiring and scaling your business to the point that feels comfortable to you, how Joy balances work with her family life, and the time Michelle Obama invited Joy to design the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. Kimberly Cannon is the Small Biz Founder behind Pipermoon blankets. We’ve worked with her in our Mastermind and, now, she’s on hand to tell us her story, what she learned by weathering the pandemic, and so much more.As you know, we’re always excited to share with you the success stories of our students, Masterminders, and community members – and Kimberly is amazing, so it was really inspiring to speak to her for this episode. Her brand, Pipermoon, creates and sells adult swaddle blankets made out of soft, jersey knit material. They’re super comfy, and big enough for adults – because why should cozy blankets be just for kids? We could all use a little more of that special feeling of warmth and security these days.COVID brought unique challenges to everyone, but Kimberly found that people began embracing Pipermoon blankets as a way of sending loved ones a “hug” when they couldn’t do it in person. She is super resilient; you can hear it in her voice. Having overcome so many obstacles over the last few years, in both her personal and professional life, she’s now completely and utterly thriving. It’s so empowering to see how well she’s doing. It’s a reminder to always look for silver linings and growth opportunities, even when it feels like things aren’t going so well. 348. The Path to a Million Is Not Something You Do by Yourself
With the focus the world puts on leadership, it can be easy to forget that no one person runs a company completely on their own. No matter what your business is, you’ll forge relationships along the way – many of them beneficial, all of them educational. We wouldn’t be here today without each other so let us tell you just how important your ties with other people are. On your path as a product boss, you’ll meet people, pick stuff up, and maintain certain relationships. This will look different every single time and for every single one of you, so don’t feel as though your story will be the same as those around you. A common thing that we see in product bosses is treating their staff as peers. They may be close friends, but that doesn’t mean that you should talk to them about business decisions when you’re operating at a certain level. At the end of the day, you’re going home with the risk, not them.Napoleon Hill defined a Mastermind as a meeting of two minds and, to this day, a Mastermind is one of the best ways to find helpful and supportive relationships. The idea is when two minds come together, they form a third mind, and that’s something you can see with us. When we first became friends, we created a third mind that you’re listening to and interacting with today. Remember if you have big dreams and goals for your business, you don’t need to do this on your own!Brought to you by the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge! 347. The Mindset of a Million-Dollar Product Boss
One mistake people often make is thinking it all comes down to strategy, when, really, the most important thing is mindset. It can seem daunting or overwhelming to change how you think about running your business as it grows, but these kinds of shifts are critical to being able to scale your success. Chances are, if you run your own business, you’re a visionary. You have lots of ideas, you spend lots of time thinking about the future, and you dream really big. But the bigger your company grows, the harder it becomes to find the space to live the life you want and avoid burnout. Sometimes, you might feel like you have complete clarity, but other times, you feel like a chicken flailing around with its head cut off. That burnout comes from not allowing yourself to be the visionary that you are. That’s why we’re going to spend some time exploring what separates six and seven-figure product boss mindsets from the rest. Make sure to listen to this episode even if your business makes less than that. It never hurts to hear how other people approach their companies, and it might be good practice for when you’re making that income yourself! For starters, one common trap people fall into as their business grows is not knowing when to stop wearing all the hats. When you start a company, you’re doing everything, or almost everything, yourself. It takes a lot of mental readjustment to get used to the idea of hiring people to do work for you, trusting them to do it to your standards, and even giving yourself permission to step back and focus on other things. But it’s an important step to take because, newsflash, you – the boss of your company – could be the bottleneck! You’ve earned the ability to pick what you want to do in your company, so pick! You might want to stop going into your store, you might want to hand off your social media accounts, or you might want to step back from production. Great! Now it’s time to hire people to make that a reality.Remember that you’re not always going to be hiring for a helping hand. At some point, you’re going to need to start attracting leaders who can make decisions and keep things running for you. You’re a decision maker; not a doer, but that doesn’t mean that you have to make every decision yourself. There’s no limit to how much you can grow. Listen to this episode to find out exactly how. Kelly Roach is a very special guest. This is her fourth time appearing on The Product Boss and there’s a good reason we’ve had her on the show more than any other guest. Simply speaking, she’s a marketing genius. We listen to her podcast, we’ve read her book. 345. Selling with Video with Krista Mashore
Video is one of the secret tools that can make all the difference in your marketing. It’s cheap, effective, and stats show that good video content can make all the difference to leveling up your sales. Krista Mashore is a top digital marketing consultant and our guest today. She’s here to give us the skinny on how you can use video to boost your business. Just knowing that we need to use video doesn’t mean we know how to properly utilize it. And starting out with video can be daunting, even though it shouldn’t be. It doesn’t need to be a full Hollywood production. A simple video showcasing your product – we talk about a seller who had an amazing hit with a video of one of her shirts hanging on a chandelier – can make all the difference. For those of you who are introverts and find the idea of being in front of the camera too scary to take the plunge, don’t let that become a crutch that prevents you from pushing yourself and reaching a new level of potential! For a lot of people, being an extrovert is a muscle that you can exercise and build. It doesn’t have to come naturally. Just don’t give up at the first hurdle. If you don’t believe us that getting video right is worth your while, listen to what Krista has to say in this episode. She teaches us that a landing page with video on your website will convert to sales 800% more than one without. That’s a mindblowing stat. Even more, an engaging video will perform better than highly produced, glossy content. So long as the video showcases your product or service effectively, that’s all that matters. Interruption marketing – that’s where you hook someone in while they’re casually browsing social media instead of actively looking for something to buy – is one of the most effective ways to market. And video is one of the best forms of interruption marketing out there. Remember that facts tell, but stories sell!Resources:KristaMashore.comF.I.R.E.D.
