Everything in my life is my responsibility. This is my mantra and it has served me my entire life.I talk openly about my past; about the sexual abuse, growing up with a mother with bipolar, being in the foster system, my husband dying. It’s a lot... and none of it was my fault. But I've learned that I have the opportunity to choose how I respond to the things that were out of my control. This topic has been coming up a lot with my clients lately and it’s something I feel so passionate about. I have a lot of women in my programs, clients of mine that are single and looking for love. They've been healing from a shitty relationship and they've lost their confidence in getting back out there. They want to know how to overcome it. My love, I have been there too. It's not my current reality obviously as I'm with the man of my absolute dreams, but that wasn't always the case. I have been in some terrible relationships with men that have treated me so badly, and I stayed.I stayed until they broke up with me. I was the damaged goods. I felt like I had done something wrong, I wasn't good enough and that's why they left.These men weren't right for me and yet when we would break up, I would feel horrible. My confidence was through the floor and I thought I would never find love.So, how do you heal after a break up? How do you gain your confidence back?It all starts with you.Take a look at the relationship. Was it really that good? What were you seeking that you'd hoped you'd find in that relationship? What you believe about yourself is everything. It shapes how you think, it shapes what you do, it shapes what you believe about the world and the people around you. So what do you think your life is going to be like if you believe you can’t do it, that you’re not good enough, that you’re not worthy or strong enough or smart enough? You will be those things. So if you want to absolutely murder confidence, all you need to do is believe you can’t be confident. This episode is all about quieting the mind and tuning in to the inner voice to find out what you truly, deeply believe. I'm in a huge lesson at the moment and I don't have an answer for you. This episode is for me as much as it's for you. Recently I've come to the realisation that I absolutely do not value rest. In my life, there has been no evidence that rest has been the answer to anything. All through my childhood, I had to work hard to get anything. I had to hustle. I had to bust my ass to get what I needed, and I've taken this mentality into adulthood. So I worked incredibly hard to achieve all the things that I've been able to achieve and this hustle was necessary. We were not in a great position when I started my business. I needed to work hard. But now I don't need to work so hard, and also I'm realising it's not sustainable.My life is so beautiful and I am so fortunate. I just need to remind myself of this more often and take restorative rest. I’m a busy woman and I do a lot but, keeping it real, I need you to know that I don’t do it all. No one does. I get asked a lot about how I do it all and I thought it would be a good topic to talk about because it’s just not true. I don’t do it all. But what I do, I freaking love. I run a global business, I’m a mother, I’m a wife to the man of my dreams, I’m a daughter to my mother who lives in America, I’m a coach to my beautiful clients who need me, I’m a boss to my staff. How could I possibly do all that by myself and not go loco? I don’t! Because I also say no a lot. I manage my time really well, I ask for help and I have teams of people around me that I delegate to. Sometimes people look at everything I do and think that I’m superwoman and never miss a beat, but I’m human ya’ll. I get stressed, I get overwhelmed, I get angry and cry but I’ve learned that it’s not about the fall, it’s about how fast you get back up. And the fire inside me to see the transformation in the people I work with gives me the energy I need to keep going.So this episode is a bit of a behind the scenes of all that I do, how I operate and what I do when I start to feel overwhelmed and stressed. I’ve been recording my very first audiobook and listened back to chapter 1 in the studio recently, and I have to tell you guys - it SUCKED. I could hardly believe how bad my voice sounded, it didn’t even sound like me. Looking back, I was so unhealthy and could hardly breathe properly while I was recording it. But it got me thinking about how when we first start out, we always suck. In this episode, I talk about how we’re almost never good at something the first time we try it, and that’s totally okay. I hear so many people say that they’re going backwards and that they’re stuck in a pattern of repeating the same thing over and over again. But the truth is, you can’t go backwards. You just can’t. We are always moving forward, always changing and evolving and growing. You might be experiencing similar feelings to what you felt in the past, but you’re not going backwards.Think about who you were 6 months ago, 1 year ago, 3 years ago. What were you feeling back then? How was your thought life? What did you spend your time doing? Where was your focus? See, you’re not that person anymore. You’ve learned new things since then, you’ve experienced something different. You’re a new version of you. In this episode, I talk about what to do if you have the feeling like you’re going backwards and encourage you to catch that thinking and give yourself some credit for all the growth you’ve gone through. What is your spending doing for you? If you’re fine with spending money on getting your nails done and your eyebrows done or buying drinks or going out for dinner but you’re not willing to spend a fraction of that on something that will invest into your LIFE or your BUSINESS, it’s time to check yourself. How many times have you said, “I don’t have the money for THAT”?I thought this would be a really good topic to talk about today because I recently had someone say this to me about a business event I’m launching, Grow your Fempire. It got me thinking about where we choose to spend our money and how we end up sabotaging ourselves by spending money on shit that doesn’t matter. And a lot of the time, we don’t even know it. In this episode, I share some of my thoughts on all this and how I worked and budgeted my ass off to get to where I am today. Being so low on money that I couldn’t even afford bread forged something in me and I learned to only invest in the things that I value.Do you know what you’re spending your money on? If you wrote a list of every single thing you bought, I’m telling you, you would be blown away. If you want to grow and make progress and take your business to another level, you have to invest in it and you have to be intentional. I know an investment when I see one and let me tell you, the BEST investment you can make is backing yourself. Look where you’re spending your money and notice your priorities. Are you investing in yourself, your life and your business? Don’t sit around waiting for the day to come when you’ll finally have enough money for everything. Create the money. Find a way to do the thing you really want and back yourself. Right now we are being sold all this ‘new year, new you’ bullshit, and I’m asking you, what actually changes on January 1st? Nothing. You can have all the ideas, all the thoughts that this year is going to be different, but unless you put those thoughts into action, nothing changes at all. It doesn’t have to be a new year for you to change your life. Your mindset can change at any time and you can take new actions. There is a collective exhaustion going on. I know we’re all feeling it. This year has been tough in so many ways and I’m tired. People think I do it all, I’m hustlin’, I’m some sort of Superwoman and y’all know I do get shit done, but it has been at the expense of my health for sure.I have not been looking after my body this year. Specifically, when I started writing my book and I put that first above all else, it was a slippery slope from there. I’ve gained weight, my body hurts, I’m exhausted and I need to rest. So this episode today is a reminder that no one can work all the time, hustle all the time and come out the other side just fine. Our bodies will tell us what they need whether we’re listening or not. It will catch up with you. Put yourself first. Set your priorities to always include what YOU need above all else, and take some time off. Why are we so harsh on ourselves? Our bodies are absolutely incredible. We have a heart that beats and keeps us alive, we have lungs that breathe without us realising, legs to walk, arms to write, text, whatever...you get my point. Our bodies are an absolute miracle and yet we hate on them so much. Our inner voice is so loud and so vicious sometimes judging all the things about ourselves that we don’t like, but we’re not appreciating all the things that our bodies do for us. What other species does this to themselves? A dog doesn’t walk around thinking these kinds of thoughts, they’re just present and accepting of what is.I want to challenge you on these thoughts that you have about yourself.  You’re just a human trying to live your life. I am so honoured to be sharing this episode with you today.  I had the absolute privilege of interviewing my amazing guest, Kemi Nekvapil, who I’ve been looking up to ever since I saw her speak at the Business Chicks event. She is a trailblazing, powerhouse of a woman and I know you’re going to love her as I do. English born with Nigerian heritage, Kemi spent her entire childhood in foster care. Drawing on her early experiences of disempowerment, she now lives to inspire other women to create lives of worthiness and fulfilment, helping them shape a new paradigm to step into.  Kemi is a personal coach, speaker, author, mother of teenagers, yoga teacher, endurance athlete... The list goes on. She recently returned from Texas training with Brenè Brown as a Dare To Lead Facilitator and in 2018 was invited to Richard Branson’s Necker Island where she sat on a panel discussing ‘humanity at work’.
