#043 3 Big Mistakes You Make When it Comes to Work-Life Balance
What is work-life balance?Work-life balance is imperative for your success. It is the ability to split your time between your personal life (e.g. friends and family) and your job. It is something we all strive for - it is so important for your mental health and the ability to work to your full potential. As a woman in a leadership role, sometimes the job can be all-consuming. You are a driven, high-achieving woman and you strive to deliver on all your projects despite the time constraints, but you are also juggling many balls at once as well as ensuring the rest of your team is okay and it is hard to find that balance or the time to switch off. Sound familiar?A lack of work-life balance can cause burnout. Burnout can be so dangerous to your mental health and lead to exhaustion. A lack of work-life balance and burnout is a large reason many people are leaving their roles. Yes, the money may be great, and that is why a lot of people stay even when they are struggling or unhappy overworking themselves. Sometimes in life, we just accept this burnout or lack of a work-life balance because that is what you signed up for as a leader, right? It is possible that you can enter this stagnant phase of your life and think ‘how did I get here?’But this doesn’t have to be the case. From working with my clients as well as working in the corporate world myself for 17 years, there are some patterns I have noticed that are stopping people from having the balance they deserve and truly need.In this episode, I will share 3 mistakes you make when it comes to work-life balance, and tips on what to do instead. It is time to change the narrative, switch off from work, and cut yourself some slack. Only then you will be able to cope better with life's challenges so you can go back to being the most productive and dedicated leader you can be (within your working hours of course!).Here’s the episode at a glance:[05:07] 3 steps you must take to set your boundaries [08:30] Doing this ONE thing will help you find more joy[10:03] How to avoid burnout Links mentioned in this episode:Book a strategy sessionSetting Boundaries WorkbookWork with Lucy Review my podcastJoin my VIP Mailing ListThe ultimate guide to setting boundaries at work (The DAD method) Check out the podcast notes here: www.lucygernon.com/worklifebalance

#010 Why Women Leaders Must Support Each Other in the Corporate World with Unni Turrettini
When women support women, great things happen. Many of you know this and lead with grace and inclusivity but there are others who are unaware of how their actions can affect their female counterparts.Today's episode is in honour of International Womens Day 2022 which falls on March 8th. The theme for International women's Day this year is breaking the bias. In this episode, my special guest is author, Ted X speaker and facilitator Unni Turretti. Unni shares how she experienced first-hand what it was like to be shunned by a senior woman leader she looked up to in the corporate world and the profound effect it had. We have a somewhat controversial discussion hoping to raise awareness about the issue of women feeling threatened by other women. And yes, trigger warning, some women are perceived as being unsupportive by their actions and behaviours, which may be unconscious, which is why its so important we talk about this stuff. We discuss:What is it like to work as a woman in a Wall Street law firmThe detrimental impact when women don't support each otherWhy sharing something you’re struggling with is a good thing How to cultivate a culture of connection between women3 things that corporate women leaders must do to support one anotherTune in, and let's get the conversation going to #breakthebias Go to www.lucygernon.com/010 to read the show highlights or listen online.
