On Sounds Like Radio Volume 135 the Great Gildersleeve is beginning to wonder if Marjorie & Bronco want to move out to be on their own with the twins? Are Marjorie and Bronco just staying because they don't want Gildy to be lonely? OR could all of this be in Gildersleeve's own imaginiation? Nero Wolfe returns in the classic Rex Stout story to look into the case of "The Squirt & Monkey". As it was originally broadcast on March 20, 1982. The Nero Wolfe brief radio series that dramatized actual Rex Stout stories from his books. Listen and see if you can solve as Nero does.

It's Sounds Like Radio Volume 134 as we find The Great Gildersleeve suddenly wanted as a friend to Bullard. Why would Bullard suddenly want to be Mr. Nice Guy and friends with Gildy? Hmm, something is up and it just may have something to do with Bullard needing a permit for his boat from the Water Commissioner. Could it be? Nahhh. Well, what we have here is a show concerning what's known as fair-weather friends. And I've invited a whole bunch of fine singers to help Gildy out with this situation. On hand are Don Williams, Lee Wiley (featured in our picture with this show), Bing Crosby, Barbara Mandrell, Slim Whitman, Joanie Sommers & Arthur Godfrey is even going to sing a sea-chanty! Your Humble Host returns to the Vast Library of Sound (LOS) and finds Volume 187--Bold Venture or as we know it best, BOOOOOLD Vennnturrre! Today Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall discover "That Gun Will Kill You" as it was originally broadcast on May 14, 1951.

Sounds Like Radio Volume 132 is here and now that Bronco is a new father he thinks he could be the man of the house. The Great Gildersleeve sees this and decides to let Bronco see what it is to be the new man of the house. From March 21, 1951 a fun episode from the The Great Gildersleeve with Richard Crenna as Bronco. To help out the situation Your Humble Host is called into action and with him are Jaye P. Morgan, Bing Crosby, Kay Starr, Jimmy Dean with a little reminder for us, a Hi-Fi Andrew Sisters song, Burl Ives (he thinks he's a boss) & even Clint Eastwood makes our day as he stops by to sing a little ditty for us. Sounds Like Radio is full of pleasant surprises to make your day.

Your Humble Host thinks it's time to dip once again into his Jean Shepherd collection. From the Grab Bag of Shep tapes we emerge with a show I recorded on February 4, 1975. One of Shep's favorite topics, A Salute To Slob Art, Shep's own slob art possessions and even talks a bit about then President Nixon's resignation. Enjoy Inside Jean Shepherd from the Library of Sound Volume 186. I used to tape these shows 2 sometimes even 4 times a week. I'd listen to the show the next day then I'd erase and record over that tape with the next Shep show. Unfortunately I didn't figure out that I should be saving these tapes and not taping over them till after about a year. Oh so many shows that were erased and taped over, I guess as a kid then I figured it was too expensive to keep buying more tapes. Oh well, at least I did start saving them and now thanks to that I can play these tapes for you now. Don't worry there are still a lot more tapes to go. Enjoy them all here on the Library of Sound.

Your Humble Host delves back into the Library of Sound (LOS) and what do you know, its Volume 185 featuring The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Today's story is a classic Holmes tale "The Copper Beeches" based on Arthur Conan Doyle's writings. It was originally broadcast August 11, 1959. Where there's mystery, there's the Library of Sound.

It's time for Sounds Like Radio Volume 131 and the Great Gildersleeve is in a quandary. On the one hand the captivating singer Katy Lee is in town and at the same time he's supposed to go to a Jollyboys meeting. What to do, what to do? I know, well, let's see what Gildy decides. Your Humble Host was mystified himself when he first heard the song Remember Me, The Girl In The Woods as you will be too when Katy Lee starts warbling. It really is a bewitching song. By the way, that is Katy Lee herself that Gildersleeve is kissing in the picture with this show. But not to be outdone we have on hand some of our favorites too, the Ink Spots in a great stereo recording made in 1959, a rare Peggy Lee stereo classic from 1950's, Burl Ives, Connie Stevens, Bing Crosby, Georgia Gibbs, Jimmy Durante and how about the theme from Connie Stevens' TV show Hawaiian Eye! Oh, we're jam packed with goodies today.

It's Story Time on Sounds Like Radio's Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 184 and who have we here? Why it's our favorite story teller, Boris Karloff!! Boris is back today with Your Humble Host as we get ready to hear Boris's 3 Little Pigs story. Boris is even pictured here next to this show with his own pet pig, Violet. Ain't she cute? Maybe Boris got this story direct from Violet the pig herself! Let's settle back to listen to Boris tell us all about the 3 Little Pigs. The Library of Sound Volume 32 is back with a special little story from The Great Gildersleeve himself. As he tells the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as heard from one of the rare Gildersleeve story albums from 1945. This was actually Capitol record’s first-ever such release for children. Since we recently presented the Cinderella story told by Gildy I thought since we're in the mood, here's another one for you. We'll be presenting new stories in the future but for now let's listen to Jack and the Beanstalk. Your Humble Host is proud to present this Lux Radio Theater fine production. With one of the most memorable pieces of music you've ever heard. Once heard you can't forget it. Your Humble Host will play 2 different versions of it today as he introduces and closes out the show. It's going to be good. Sounds Like Radio Volume 130 has arrived and now Marjorie & babies have returned home and Gildy begins to worry if he's still needed by his niece Marjorie & them little babies. From March 7 1951 The Great Gildersleeve is back and so's Your Humble Host and a host of really nice music to help Gildy feel like he's still wanted. After all, everybody needs a Grandpa let's see if Gildy realizes it. To help out we have good folks to convince Gildy that the family needs him. Well, for incidence we'll turn to Vaughn Monroe, Dinah Shore, Johnnie Ray, Peggy Lee, Bing Crosby, Joanie Sommers, & Nat King Cole. Now between all of us we should be able to give Gildersleeve the boost in confidence he needs. With good music and some mirth thrown in, what else could you ask for?

From the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 180 Your Humble Host jumps out of the way as Hopalong Cassidy Rides Again into our studio for another rip-roaring rootin-tootin adventure! Today we hear Hoppy tell us all about the time he and California had to deal with "The Buckshot Badman" as originally broadcast March 3, 1951. Listen closely to the foreman character, "Will Banning" as he is portrayed by Howard McNear. Better known to us as Bronco's father on the Great Gildersleeve, Doc on radio's Gunsmoke & of course Floyd The Barber on the Andy Griffith Show. A fun time to be had by all who listen to Hopalong Cassidy!

From the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 179 we have Jean Shepherd!! Jean Shepherd was way before his time as you'll hear him in late 1974 talking about Award Acceptance speeches and in the future vicious criminals will be portrayed as poor innocent victims. Sadly and unfortunately this has all come to pass. From Your Humble Host's very own personal Jean Shepherd vault comes a show I recorded on January 29, 1975. I'm happy to be able to share these rare recordings not found anywhere else, because they're my own recordings. And now I'm playing them for you. While the subject may not seem funny, Shep always manages to see the funny side of life and make us laugh. Your Humble Host remains positive as always and knows change for the better is coming. Now starting with the better let's listen to a Shep tape straight from Your Humble Host's vault.

In our last visit Marjorie had her baby, make that babies, she had twins! And now in Sounds Like Radio Volume 129 Marjorie has returned home and the whole family is excited. From the Vast Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 178 comes a Special Presentation of Ray Bradbury's--"There Shall Come Soft Rains".  A classic story read to you by none other than the great Burgess Meredith.   You may recall in September of 2020 we presented to you the very first Library of Sound which featured Burgess Meredith reading Bradbury's "Marionettes Inc."   That was the beginning of the Library of Sound.   At that time I also recorded the introduction to the flip side of that Burgess Meredith album.   Well, 3 1/2 years later I'm finally playing you the other side of that 1962 album "Burgess Meredith Reads Ray Bradbury" and my original 2020 first Library of Sound intro. and closing.   If you'd like to hear that first Library of Sound featuring Burgess reading Marionettes Inc. scroll down through our many shows we've done here on Sounds Like Radio and you'll find the other Burgess-Bradbury album side of Marionettes Inc.  For now enjoy this classic story which was once a fanciful tale of Science Fiction but has now sadly become a reality.

Today from the Library of Sound Volume 174 we may have what is probably the most important message you will ever hear.   Once we had a Real elected President, a President who spoke wise words, gave wise advice and was always looking out for what's best for America.    Today we'll hear all about what it means to be a real American, we'll be reminded we once had a brilliant President we could all be proud of.   No one hung his head in shame when President Ronald Reagan spoke.   Let us all take a moment to hear some of the wisest words ever spoken by a real President.   Your Humble Host is extremely proud to present the favorite President of my lifetime speaking as I can only wish any President would, President Ronald Reagan.   What you're about to hear should be common sense to all Americans.   Once it was so, President Reagan reminds us what no one should ever forget.

It's time for another visit from Jean Shepherd direct from Your Humble Host's Library of Sound Volume 172.   It's another Shep show I actually recorded myself back on December 9, 1974.  Your Humble Host liked Shep since the first time he heard him in 1969 or maybe '68.  In this episode Shep discusses the life expectancy of man and animals, how a country's importance is reflected in the design of it's stamps & even commercials.   A very interesting and fascinating show that Shep would do in addition to his various stories.

What time is it?  It's Philco Radio Time here on the Library of Sound (LOS).   Your Humble Host has stumbled into the Bing Wing of the Vast Library of Sound and come up with Volume 170 featuring Bing Crosby's Philco Radio show.   A real good one too as this one features Peggy Lee, Oscar Levant the piano master & jazz violinist Joe Venuti and a very funny guy too.   This is another one direct from Your Humble Host's collection and is so much better sounding than the stuff you can scrounge up on the internet.   Enjoy this November 10, 1948 edition of a very entertaining Bing Crosby Show!

It's Volume 124 of Sounds Like Radio and today Marjorie's preparing for the arrival of the new baby.   She's doing this by directing Gildy & Bronco, her husband to move the furniture around.   Poor Bronco, he's a nervous wreck as it is with expecting the baby at any moment.   Got to give him something to relieve his shattered nerves, why not move furniture?   Huh?   From January 17, 1951 it's time now for this funny edition of The Great Gildersleeve. But you know how Your Humble Host likes to lend a helping hand so he brings on Doris Day, Al Jolson, Patsy Cline, Bing Crosby, the Ronettes & Nat King Cole to do all the heavy lifting while Your Humble Host supervises the job.  Jimmy Dean even takes a break from his breakfast to tell us a funny story.  It's a good day for music and a good day for Marjorie.  Just listening to today's show will make it a good day for you too.

From out of the darkest corners of Your Humble Host's Vast Library of Sound we emerge with Volume 169.   From the man who doesn't know the words but we love it anyway, it's time for The Whistler!   The subject in this strange little tale is "Jealousy" and the original broadcast date is September 27, 1942.   Pucker up and get ready to whistle like The Whistler. 

It's Volume 123 of Sounds Like Radio and we find our hero being run ragged with nightly dates.   Why?   Bullard (Gale Gordon) is still competing for Gildy's girlfriend, Katherine Milford (Kathy Lewis, "Deidra" of the TV show Hazel) by going out on nightly double dates with Gildy, Katherine, Bullard and a girl Bullard takes along.   Gildy's pooped but is too afraid to admit it.   Oh boy, quite a situation, and a very funny show with one of the funniest endings to a Gildy show I've heard.    Your Humble Host says no more except we have some fine music today to assist in this little predicament.   Johnny Cash, Kay Starr, Madeleine Peyroux all describe how Gildy feels, Bing Crosby tells us when it's best to rest, Hal Kemp and Skinny Ennis sing of the joys of a date, Jaye P. Morgan's on hand to wake up the boys and BONUS song time Pepino DiCapri sings (in English) from the soundtrack of a classic Italian movie of the early '60's Il Sorpasso translated-The Easy Life.   The picture featured with today's show is a colorized picture Your Humble Host did from the movie Il Sorpasso.   The movie is in b/w but after colorizing it I wish the whole movie was in color.   Oh yeah, we got a goodie here and it's all for you!

It's time for Volume 122 of Sounds Like Radio with our hero the Great Gildersleeve!   Today we find the Gildersleeve family in a quandary as Marjorie, who's expecting wakes up in the middle of the night with a craving for sauerkraut!!!   Now where do you find sauerkraut in the middle of the night when it's not in the kitchen?   That's the quest Gildy and Bronco (Marjorie's husband (Richard Crenna) find themselves on in this January 3, 1951 episode.   It's a real adventure we'll be having.    And when you're looking for sauerkraut where else would you turn, but to Your Humble Host.   Oh we have a wide variety of folks today to assist.   We'll hear from Dean Martin, Gogi Grant, we'll wind up the old Victrola to listen to a 1926 78 of Riley Puckett singing of his favorite side dish, also Bing Crosby, an in stereo Judy Garland original, Waylon Jennings and K.D. Lang.   Now that's what  I call going far and wide all in the name of Marjorie's craving.   And well, well, there's our little German girl serving up a nice hot dish of sauerkraut now in our feature picture for this week's show!  

Your Humble Host is back with another cassette tape from his personal collection of Shep tapes that I recorded in the 1970's.   Today from the Library  of Sounds (LOS) Volume 167 we hear my December 20, 1974 recording of Jean Shepherd as he talks about human nature, pollster questions, and his own life philosophy.   A fascinating and interesting show to say the least, with a lot of laughs thrown in.   Enjoy another excursion into the life and mind of Jean Shepherd!

Welcome to Sounds Like Radio Volume 121 where we find the Jolly Boys going into action to save a fellow Jolly Boy from getting fired.   In this Great Gildersleeve episode from December 13, 1951 the town's filled with gossip that someone's getting fired.   It will be a sticky situation with the solution they figure to save the job.   Another good Willard Waterman episode from his first year as Gildy.   Willard and the show's writing and characters just improve as the show goes along.   You'll hear how it happens as we move along through the 1950's with the Great Gildersleeve.    And as always Your Humble Host is here to help as we suggest ways to help out the Jolly Boys.  Along for the ride are Doris Day, Boots Randolph, Dinah Shore, Bing Crosby & Al Jolson and a quick duet from them, Jo Stafford, Bill Frawley (Fred Mertz of I Love Lucy) returns to sing a nice one, and Chet Baker sings all about how the Jolly Boys think about their buddy.   It's a show filled with neat music and a neat episode of the Great Gildersleeve.
