It's off to 221 B Baker Street with Your Humble Host as we enter the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 231 for an episode of the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It's another actual Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock story entitled "The Beryl Coronet". Carleton Hobbs as Holmes and Norman Shelly as Watson are back for another mystery here originally from June of 1959. I'll call for the transport, "Cabbie, Cabbie!"

It's the grand return of the Great Gildersleeve and for Sounds Like Radio Volume 143 in an all new season of music & mirth from your very own Humble Host. In today's first episode of the season from September 5, 1951 we find that Leroy wants a car real bad and he's even going to buy a car!! He can't even drive yet but that's where the fun begins for Gildy & the neighbors. Leroy's got that old car fever, Your Humble Host knows how it is when you get that mad desire to get just the perfect car you've been wanting. Today a desperate father comes to Bogie to ask him to get his daughter back from the "Blue Moon", a gambling ship and find out why she can't seem to leave. Your Humble Host thinks this sounds like a job for Bogie & Bacall, it's a good thing they're right here. Listen to this neat little episode mixing humor and action.

Your Humble Host once again finds himself wandering through the Bing Wing of the Library of Sound and finds Volume 228, A Bing Crosby 15 min. Show we haven't had on Sounds Like Radio. From November 29, 1954 Bing sings and talks about letters received and then discusses his favorite features of cars both new & old. Some nice little ditties from Bing and interesting subjects. For Sounds Like Radio's Library of Sound Volume 229 Your Humble Host turns to open his personal Jean Shepherd Tape Vault containing the many Shep shows I recorded in the 1970's. Well, what have we here? A February 24, 1975 tape when Jean talks about all kinds of interesting hobbies. I think having a hobby is important to everyone, it provides you with doing something you love and is fun to do. I have several hobbies I've enjoyed for years. Let's listen to some of the hobbies Jean has in mind.

It's time for an all time favorite here on the Library of Sound--Nero Wolfe the master detective who puts it all together. Today on the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 227 Nero Wolfe is called to court to be the "Next Witness". This is not only an outrage to Nero to have to leave his house but then to sit and realize that the man accused is innocent! Only one course for our gourmet detective, get up and leave before he is called to testify. Now the police are searching for Nero for contempt of court. Your Humble Host knows that when Nero is on the case the real murderer will be brought to justice.

The Shadow Returns to Your Humble Host's Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 226 as he seeks a murderer who is supposed to be dead. From October 29, 1939 today's Shadow is called "The Phantom Fingerprints". The Shadow knows where evil lurks.

Quite an entertaining show today on the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 225 as Your Humble Host presents a Jack Benny Show with special guest star--Al Jolson! One of the all time great entertainers was Jolie along with one of the funniest guys who could get a laugh with just a look. Have fun with this Jack Benny & Al Jolson classic from April 2, 1950.

Welcome to another Bing Crosby Show (6/18/56) from the Bing Wing of the Vast Library of Sound Vol. 14.  It’s time for a great short 15 min. show from the one and only Bing Crosby.  Your Humble Host loves these latter day 1950’s shows and so will you.  In this episode in addition to Ken Carpenter & Bing banter we'll also hear from one of Bing's boys-Lindsay.

From the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 224 comes this action packed and funny Sam Spade detective story, "The Wheel of Life Caper" as it was originally broadcast July 11, 1948. Howard Duff IS Sam Spade who no doubt slathers on that crazy Wild Root Cream Oil.

From the Humble Host Ranch we bring you another exciting Western story on the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 223 with Hopalong Cassidy! Your Humble Host gallops into the Humble Host Barn to pick out this Hopalong adventure straight out of the Hoppy Files. Today Hoppy & California get involved helping a pretty Senorita as "The Devil's Drums" are heard in this March 24, 1951 episode. Hoppy & California (the great Andy Clyde) get serious when murder is afoot!

On the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 222 we've got another funny one. It's the Phil Harris - Alice Faye Show from December 8, 1946 as Phil & Alice at home and when stepping out manage to have some crazy fun. It's a good way to start the week here with a laugh on Sound Like Radio, enjoy.

Today on the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 221 we're set for some detective action, Philip Marlowe style with Your Humble Host. As Marlowe sees to it he's no "Easy Mark" in this January 29, 1949 episode. Your Humble Host brings you a bit of an odd one today, as the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 219 presents a June 18, 1949 Quiet Please with a story called Pavanne. Pavanne was one of the earliest examples of dance music from the 1500's! Or is Pavanne today a story to inspire thought and consideration? Well, you'll have to hear it for yourself and make up your own mind. Quiet Please, one of the most unique radio shows you'll ever hear. And here's an example of it you just can't classify. Jean Shepherd is back on this Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 220. Your Humble Host brings you another one of my very own original tapes I made of Shep back in the '70s. Today from February 20, 1975 Jean is going to talk about Train accidents he's seen and car accidents. I'll tell you what happened when I played this tape for my Dad many many moons ago. Now this show was originally broadcast on WOR AM on November 25, 1974 but I recorded it as an FM syndicated show in Feb. '75 with all commercials cut and sound quality much improved. Listen to one of the Shep shows I can still remember hearing back then, it's a classic.

Your Humble Host is happy to welcome back Bing Crosby with another classic show straight from my own tape collection, found in the Bing Wing of the Library of Sound Volume 218. In today's Bing show from April 25, 1951 Bing welcomes none other than Louis Armstrong & from the Dick Van Dyke Show-Rose Marie! What an entertaining show this is. It's as loose as a goose, enjoy!

It's the Library of Sound Volume 217 with Humphrey Bogart & gal pal Lauren Bacall in another classic BOOOOOLLD VENNNNTURRRE! Today Your Humble Host brings you another great Bold Venture from May 28, 1951. As Bogie tries to get Bacall (her character name: Sailor) out of a jam for she's been framed for moiduh! Yipe! Will Baby (Bacall's nickname) go to the Big House? Or will Bogie save the day? Find out in today's action packed episode.

Your Humble Host brings you all the original stars of the movie Talk of The Town in today's Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 216. It's the May 17, 1943 Lux Radio Theater production of "Talk of the Town" with original stars Cary Grant, Ronald Coleman & that gal with the cute little voice Jean Arthur! This is one that became an instant classic when I first saw the movie version. Now the radio version is sure to do the same thing. Let's enjoy this little gem together!

Your Humble Host brings you the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 215 because it's time to smile a while with The Jack Benny Show! Today it seems there are more bums than ever but even in the good old days there were a few bums. Today Jack considers doing his part to help a bum, he just may give him 50 cents. As for me, I'd just point him to the nearest employment office. Jack Benny painted himself as cheap for many decades, in reality he was the opposite. But it's more fun thinking he was tight with the buck. We'll find out if Jack solves the bum situation in today's funny show.

The man with the action packed expense account is back on Sounds Like Radio's Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 214! Today Johnny investigates the case of the Ellen Dear Matter just as it was heard on January 6, 1957. It's just one of our favorite detective programs here on the Library of Sound and we love to hear it and to bring it to you. Enjoy.

It's time for a visit from The Shadow today on The Library of Sound Volume 213. While an old church is being repaired, a spectral monk begins to murder the church committee. YIPE! OK Shadow do your stuff. The Shadow-a classic radio favorite of everyone including Your Humble Host. Today the Shadow faces The Black Abbot as it was originally heard on October 2, 1938. Soon the Black Abbot will learn that the weed of crime bears bitter fruit, The Shadow Knows!

Your Humble Host finds himself drawn back to his favorite place-the Bing Wing of the Library of Sound Volume 212. And what have we here? Ah, a Bing Crosby Kraft Music Hall classic with song composer and singer and Capitol Records guy--Johnny Mercer!! An entertaining show today with 2 guys who you can tell had fun together. Jean Shepherd is back on the Library of Sound Volume 210 and he's ready to talk of weird happenings and the strange phenomena of Gravity Hill. Your Humble Host is proud to once again play for you another exclusive Shep show as this is another one of my own tapes I recorded on February 20, 1975. This is a neat episode of Inside Jean Shepherd you won't find anywhere but here.

Sherlock Holmes is Back On the Library of Sound Volume 209. Today Sherlock looks into the case of Shoscombe Old Place. It's Summer Vacation for the Great Gildersleeve on Volume 142 of Sounds Like Radio. It's Gildy's last broadcast of the 1950-51 season as Summer vacation time hits. Gildy and Family plan ever so carefully for the start of their vacation trip early in the morning. But, well like what happened with Your Humble Host's family when summer vacation started, it just never worked out the way it was planned. But never fear, Sounds Like Radio WILL be here all through the summer right with you. We'll have some great summer time Sounds Like Radio shows starting next week. And rest assured the Great Gildersleeve will be back here on Sounds Like Radio with new shows in September. But this week we're here to help Gildy figure his summer plans. Along for the assist are some great summertime songs by some classic singers! We'll also harken back to Your Humble Host's summertime memories of Mr. Softee ice cream & Palisades Amusement Park. Your Humble Host is back on Topper and we're ready to hear Library of Sound Volume 207 with Hoppy's latest Western adventure. Gather round the old campfire and let's all settle back as we get ready for action!

Your Humble Host goes back into his Vast Library of Sound (LOS) and emerges with this classic Philip Marlowe adventure Volume 205. It's the case of the deadly Orange Dog as it was originally broadcast on January 22, 1949. Whatever the situation, with Marlowe on the job it'll get done.

On Sounds Like Radio Volume 141 the Great Gildersleeve family are all expecting a nice visit from Bronco's father. He's coming to see the twins but he gives everyone a jolt as he also springs a dirty trick on everyone. Oh well, it can't be that bad, can it? We'll find out on today's May 23, 1951 Gildersleeve show. Also on today's show we'll finally hear the names of the twins as selected by the very bad taste of the Gildersleeve staff. It seems they just love to pick the most unusual and worst of the names submitted supposedly by the audience. It's a funny show though as Bronco's father plays a dirty trick on the Gildersleeve folk. Thankfully we have on hand Bob Hope, Bonnie Lou, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mercer, Lena Horne, Burl Ives & Jo Stafford to help figure this situation out. And as bonus song time arrives we'll hear a classic song from B.B. King that mixes humor along with some real feeling all combined. It's a goodie I've liked since I first heard it. OK, it's time for some fun, ready or not.

Your Humble Host has asked Boris Karloff to return to tell us another of his Aesop's Fables-The Ant & The Grasshopper it's today's Library of Sound Volume 204. This one's short and sweet but a great little story. Now it's Boris story time!

Your Humble Host brings you another classic Shadow story. The Shadow has his hands full of guns on Gun Island in this Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 203. From October 23, 1938 The Shadow discovers once again the evil that lurks in men's hearts.

It's Volume 140 of Sounds Like Radio with The Great Gildersleeve, well, it seems lately GIldy hasn't been paying much attention to Katherine Milford, his supposed girlfriend, but Katherine hasn't noticed. She's been sailing with Gildy's rival all these weeks, Mr. Bullard. Oh, what we have here is a failure to communicate with a consequence. Will Gildy give up and wave bye bye to Katherine as she sails off into the sunset with Bullard or will he try to figure a way to get on that boat? We'll find out today on this May 16, 1951 episode. But we just can't leave Gildy to figure this out all by his lonesome, so Your Humble Host has brought along a few helpers with a few ideas of their own. We'll hear from Peggy Lee, The Hi-Fi 1950's Ink Spots, Bing Crosby, stereo Doris Day classic, stereo Nat King Cole, stereo Gogi Grant classic, Cliff Edward a.k.a. Your Humble Host is back with a goodie from our Vast Library of Sound (LOS) it's Volume 201 and we have an episode of Burl Ives own radio show. Yes, he was known as Philco's Friendly Troubadour, this was a 15 minute show Burl did for Philco radio and is extremely enjoyable. Burl was great as a guest on Bing's radio show so naturally he'd be perfect as host of his own radio show. Listen and enjoy a bit of Burl on the radio from October 18, 1946.

Your Humble Host has returned with Sounds Like Radio Volume 139 and it's anniversary time on the Great Gildersleeve as Marjorie & Bronco wish to renew their wedding vows on their 1st anniversary. They'd like a nice private ceremony but, uh oh, Gildersleeve, well, he has a different idea for the occasion. Could be trouble in the home, we'll find out today, as we listen to a Gildy show from May 9, 1951. Helping to sort all this out will be this week's team of singers-Vaughn Monroe, Al Jolson, Joanie Sommers, Bing Crosby & John Conlee. And in addition we will be remembering a special little singer, the girl from Ipanema herself-Astrud Gilberto. She just died recently and coincidentally we featured her just a couple weeks ago on our show. Today we look back and listen to the magic that Astrud made whenever she sang and Your Humble Host even has a rare 1965 commercial Astrud did and we'll hear that too. It's a nice salute and we hope you'll enjoy.

From the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 199 Your Humble Host brings you another Bogie & Bacall BOOOOLLLD VENNNNTUUUURE! Today's episode is all about fake passports. Imagine that back in the good old days you couldn't invade another country till you got a passport. A day when laws were enforced and crooks were pursued not installed in government. Hopefully we'll return to those days soon before it's too late. In the meantime let's forget our current national nightmare and listen to Bold Venture.

Your Humble Host celebrates Spring and it's many facets. The Great Gildersleeve from May 2, 1951 talks the Jolly Boys into Spring cleaning time over at the Judges house. It sounded good, at least at first. But that old Spring Fever has hit Sounds Like Radio bad, it may be time for an ice bath!! But to help us heat up the waters are Julie London (that's Julie, our May picture with this show), Phil Harris, Lizabeth Scott, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Chet Baker & Dion himself sings us one of our all time favorites to groove on. This show really springs to life for Spring. You will too.

Your Humble Host has opened up his personal vault of Jean Shepherd tapes he recorded himself back in the good old days and has emerged with a Shep classic he recorded on February 17, 1975. Everyone loves Jean's kid stories and today he tells of his favorite cereal as a kid. He'll also have some fun with his favorite commercials of the day. It's a good time today from the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 198. I've checked out the tape all is well and now here it is!

Today on the Library of Sound (LOS) Volume 197 Your Humble Host finds one of our favorite detectives--Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar! Listen as Johnny is hired to look into the Rasmussen Matter. From December 16, 1956 let's join the man with the action packed expense account-Johnny Dollar.

It's Sounds Like Radio Volume 137 and today on the Great Gildersleeve we find Leroy the proud new owner of a pony. Something Leroy's always wanted. BUT will he be able to keep this new pony at the house? Gildy's going to have his hands full as the neighbors ain't thrilled and beside you just can't keep a pony in the basement. We're going to find out how this Pony Problem will work out but you know Your Humble Host is always on hand with helpful assistants to offer advice. Today's assistants consist of Roy Rogers, Burl Ives, Bing Crosby, Jo Stafford, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, John Wayne, and Grandpa along with Dinah Shore & Merle Haggard. Now did you notice what we have here is a reunion of the cast of John Wayne's movie Rio Bravo? That's right the Rio Bravo gang will be on today's show. Now if that ain't a lollapalooza I don't know what is. And with a visit from Grandpa you know we're going to have fun.

Your Humble Host returns to the Vast Library of Sound (LOS) and finds Volume 196, a classic Adventure of Sherlock Holmes story, The Noble Bachelor originally broadcast September 18, 1959. These radio adaptations are very well done and the actors Carleton Hobbs & Norman Shelly are just perfect as the intrepid duo of Sherlock & Watson. Put on your Deerstalker cap and start blowing smoke rings, it's time for Sherlock Holmes!

Your Humble Host enters the Bing Wing of the Library of Sound for Volume 195 and lo and behold we have a couple of sweet items. First you'll hear a 45 record Bing made advertising Shaving, It's Music To Shave By. Then we have one of our shortie Bing Shows for you from November 22, 1954 as Bing will talk about Honesty Being The Best Policy no matter what field you're in and will sing a couple of ditties for us along the way. One of Your Humble Host's most pleasurable times listening to the radio is listening to a Bing Crosby Show. I think you'll agree.

Sounds Like Radio Volume 136 is on the air! Your Humble Host has the scoop on the latest Great Gildersleeve episode from April 18, 1951. Seems today Leroy is set to learn a lesson in love, that is, never assume. He meets a new girl but she's a few years older than Leroy, but nevertheless Leroy assumes he's made a date with that gal to go to a dance. But has he? A very well written show today I think you'll enjoy. But Leroy wasn't the only one with a problem, Your Humble Host had a couple of hurdles to face this week too. If it ain't one thing it's another. We're going to talk about that. And in addition, of course, it just wouldn't be Sounds Like Radio without our music. Helping out Leroy today will be Peggy Lee & Bing Crosby (our featured picture with this week's show), Doris Day, Dean Martin, J.P.
