2022: The Year We Were Forced To Face Our New Normal
You’ve made it.
This last year is just about to be done and dusted. You have tackled all the highs and lows that have been thrown your way - so it’s time to celebrate!
We rode the wave of trying to manage a growing team, and navigating a shift in lifestyle demands as well as increased challenges in attracting & hiring new team members!
You were able to ditch the masks in the Salon and greet your clients and team as normal. Events and industry awards were able to be held, and so many Salon Owners were able to reconnect with each other again! How good did it feel to be able to have a hug again?!
As I share my top moments of 2022 in this episode, I would love to invite you to reflect on what your successes were in this last year.
Why? To make the most of this upcoming year and, to truly level up your business, you must decide to be and do something different than you've been in the last year.
If nothing changes, nothing changes… If you do everything the same as you did last year, everything will stay the same.
So in order to move forward, we need to be able to identify where you currently are in your business.
Whatever it may have looked like for you, I would love you to take this moment to appreciate all you achieved in 2022! You have smashed it!!

3 Secrets to Increasing Your Team’s Sales Performance
The biggest mistake you can make as a Salon Owner is to assume your team knows how to sell.
After all, they are trained to do hair or beauty, right? Not how to be a salesperson and actually they often don’t want to be a salesperson.
So even when you have clients coming through the door, and you have a full team of stylists, you aren’t seeing the growth you had hoped for… and as the Salon Owner, you end up with the most sales, consistently rebooking clients, and keeping the business afloat.

As a Salon Owner, it can be so easy to get sucked into what I call “shiny object syndrome”, especially when you first open your business…press pause on that team retreat for now!

Work Less & Make More – Becoming a “Smart” Salon CEO
Have you ever felt like: You’re working yourself to the bone: You’re busier than ever with clients, plus managing an ever-evolving team...
You’re hardly present with your family as work has taken over your brain space… but what makes it worse is you’re not growing.
But still, you end up saying YES all the time:
Like when a team member needs our help with something, we jump at the chance… because we don’t want to let them down
Or when a regular client wants to book with you when you’re ‘meant’ to be working ON the business (not in it)... you give in because you feel bad…
Or maybe you’re guilty of having shiny object syndrome…. Are you nodding your head right now? I know I’ve been guilty of this too…
But this is a HUGE mistake.
Because in reality, these are often the things that will halt forward momentum in our business.
As a result, you take 2 steps forward, 2 back. Your business is at a constant plateau, and you get super frustrated because you’re BUSY doing ALL the things- so you start to wonder-- ‘why am I not growing?’ You get overwhelmed and burnt out… which leads to halting progress even more.
Agh! It’s a vicious cycle.

Creating Healthy Boundaries to Stop People Pleasing

Not the feeling of success and fulfillment that we’d hoped for, but actually the feeling of burnout and exhaustion. And what good can come from you feeling like this?
So it’s time we ditch this endless cycle we’ve managed to get ourselves stuck in, and create a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle, so we can continue to reach success in our salons.

How a Risktaker Re-Defined Salon Success
Have you ever had someone tell you that you’ll never achieve something? That being a hairstylist will only take you so far? That there is no way that owning a salon will give you a life of freedom or profit?
I did, over and over again when I owned my Salon, and boy was I determined to prove them wrong!
In our industry, everyone's journey to success looks different. Legal Action: Two Words Every Salon Owner Dreads
Have you ever had a client threaten legal action against you and your Salon?
As a Salon Owner, I’m sure you have had had a moment (if not, a few) where you have had to deal with a situation that has gone wrong, like a really bad colouring mistake, and in return had to deal with an unhappy (and frustrated!) client.
Something has gone wrong in the Salon; the service didn’t meet the expectations of the client and you are left to clean up the mess that has been left behind. Sometimes this may mean dealing with further legal action….Eeek!!
Unfortunately, that is just what happens when we work in a service-based, client-based industry, or is it?

This is a feeling I know ALL too well. It is why I started becoming a Salon Business Coach, because I see it far too often. Team Explosions: How to Avoid Them
You need a strong Salon team in order to grow and be successful.
But having a team of stylists is only the beginning. “Is It My Fault My Team is Leaving?”
Have you recently gone through a breakup?–and no, I’m not talking about a romantic breakup, I’m talking about a TEAM breakup!
I actually think a team breakup can be ten times more painful than an actual breakup...AND it’s even worse when they start dating the Salon down the road.
You’re left feeling confused, stressed, and yet again having to solve the problem of why your team isn’t sticking around. Not only that, but you have to spend the time that you were GOING to spend working on growing your business, finding someone to fill the role.

What I Wish I Knew Before Opening My Salon
This is the moment you have been dreaming about since you began your journey as a young Salon apprentice. You’re now ready to take the next big step in your career and begin your journey as the owner of a Salon.
This is something that I believe is the natural stepping stone in your career when you have been in this industry for years and have learned all the hands-on skills you want to. Now, you are after something more, to pursue a different passion, which may be owning a business. I was itching to dig my feet into something more and owning a business seemed like the perfect fit!

Here’s What You Forgot About Client Rebooking
Have you ever had a client walk into your Salon doors and then never return?
Their stylist is left feeling confused and slightly upset. A million thoughts are racing through your head. Did they not enjoy the end result of the colour, cut or style? Was it too expensive? What got missed?
In our industry, we have all had this happen before (I know I have!). It’s just something that you have to accept when running a client-based business…or is it? I want to show you a way to avoid this from happening that has nothing to do with the hair itself.
Just imagine you’re a client who has had the busiest day, work’s been hectic–or perhaps it’s been a tough day with your kids–and you come flying into your hair appointment at a new salon (that you almost forgot about). The hairdresser, who doesn’t know you, your hair, or what you like having done comes over, swings the chair around to the mirror, and starts working away.
At the end of the appointment, you leave the Salon, and whilst you may actually like what the hairdresser has done, you think to yourself that you won’t be returning any time soon.
Do you know why that may be?
I know I say this often, but as Salon Owners our job is always more than just hair.
It’s so easy to get caught up in getting your clients in and out of the Salon looking good, but what about actually feeling good?

Do You Have What It Takes to Be a Million-Dollar Salon Owner?
