586 | Your Problems Are Your Potential with Vin Infante
Today we are speaking with Mindset Coach, Vin Infante. Vin is a therapist, master mindset coach, mentor and speaker. He has spent over 13 years in mental health, working with thousands of people to help create transformation with the people he serves. Currently he is on a mission to impact 1 billion lives positively. In this episode we dive into: 1) Vin shares his journey through being bullied, challenges throughout his younger years until he hit a tipping point at 23 and decided to take radical self acceptance for where he was and ownership for his future. 2) How all change occurs at the identity level, how powerful our thoughts are, and how we have to become it first in order to see the changes happen. We also unpacked the differences between therapy, coaching and mentoring and some of the unethical practices of marketing and business in the online space. 3) Vin shared the 3 steps to self-development: anything you do will help you (read the books, listen to the podcasts); go to events, immerse yourself into the environments, the groups to meet more like minded people; and then after you learn more about yourself, look for the specific investment, or mentor to support you on furthering your growth. 584 | How Fast Can You Reframe
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on reframing. Reframing is a strategy that people can use, either on their own or in therapy, to help adjust their mindset. It often involves focusing on more positive thoughts, but it can also be centered on changing excessively high expectations to be more realistic. In this episode we discuss: 1) Reframing is a powerful skill to have as it can give us immediate changes in our feelings about a situation, and make us feel more clear, resourceful, empowered, and optimistic about our circumstances. The steps to reframing include: identifying the pattern of behaviour, the words that need to be changed, establishing communication and ownership with the message, separating behaviours such as naming it or seeing it as a part of you that is trying to keep you safe; taking responsibility and creating a bridge to the future and what you want to create instead of where you currently are. 2) Positive reframing can help you to: reduce stress, build your resiliency muscle, improve relationships, see and act on new opportunities, be more thoughtful, open-minded and kind, find greater happiness in life. 3) Common reframes as an example when it comes to writing a book: Feeling overwhelm, my story isn't big enough; and what will people think, I will share some of the common reframes in relation to this. 583 | What If The Fire Isn’t For You?
In this episode, I am sharing a quote that spoke to me deeply, “People who have overcome darkness in their life typically have a fire inside of them that is almost impossible to extinguish.” ~Stephen Timoney. It feels like the more darkness or challenges we walk through the more I feel the fire to do something with it. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Suppressing that fire burns me, yet expressing that fire, learning how to share it does 2 things; 1. It sets me free, helps me to heal and solidifies my purpose; 2. It helps me to help others with their stories and that ripple effect pays back in ways I could never fully express. 2) That fire you’re walking through, that you’ve walked through, doesn’t have to be for nothing. Maybe you’re not walking through it. Maybe it’s moving through you to shape you into the person you are capable of becoming. 3) If you’re feeling that pull to learn how to heal and support yourself, to find your voice and do something big and impactful with your story, I’m here to support you through it. Those parts of yourself that you’ve tried so hard to hide are EXACTLY the parts to lean into. That’s where your gifts are!! In this episode, I am sharing a personal story of how the mindset work adds up, you can do the work for years and then it is required on a whole new level. Mindset work is only in the implementation, the action – it is not in the books and preparation. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Today I am sharing a personal story of how I watched my husband navigate something incredibly challenging, having to let go of what he couldn't control to go on and claim a National Title in Olympic lifting while being completely covered in poison sumac. 579 | Words That Are Blocking You
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on the power of our words, and the words that might be blocking you more than you think. For years I used the words stuck, I felt stuck, why, why me, and all they kept me was stuck in a victim mindset. I learned from Tony Robbins years ago the power of the words we use on repeat and how they can literally create our world. Words such as try, why, can’t, just, I don’t have time, should etc., are all keeping you stuck in one space in time and are blocking you from moving forward in your life. Your words have power. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) What word do you say on repeat that is not serving you and is actually blocking you from moving forward? 2) Track how often you say it, even for a one hour time slot as this starts to build awareness, and then rewrite it in a new empowering way. 3) Ask for some accountability, take ownership and decide that you are changing it Join the OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification https://www.marshavanw.com/outspoken2023 Connect with us on Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of “When She Stopped Asking Why”. 576 | Are You Increasing Or Closing The Gap? [Available on Patreon]
In this episode, I am sharing a thought on how we shame and criticize ourselves for not being where we think we should be and how we are actually increasing the gap or the length of time it takes to create what we desire. I am also referencing the book The Gap and The Gain by Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy . In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Every time we shame, judge or criticize ourselves for not being where we think we should be, for not being enough, for buying into the limiting beliefs, we are actually keeping ourselves stuck in the space we say we don’t want to be in. Our subconscious mind doesn’t understand negatives, it only wants to keep us safe, it’s uncomfortable with growth outside of the comfort zone, and it needs massive repetition to create change, until a habit is installed. 2) When these feelings arise, thoughts that are a confirmation of that then arise. Your subconscious mind wants to show you that you are correct. Instead, in the moment, don’t reframe it in a fluffy, fake/toxic positive statement. Reframe it in a compassionate statement, honouring the gain of how far you’ve come in life, how differently you are handling different scenarios now compared to the past, and focus on how far you’ve come. 3) On the one side of a piece of paper, write down those top 1-3 limiting beliefs that are on repeat, the same statements that you know are not supporting you, and then on the other side of the dividing line, write the reframe that stirs up emotions and is full of so much love and compassion for yourself. As soon as you do this, you change the shame story, you create safety within yourself, you recognize that your feelings are normal and valid. This is how you build more self-trust within yourself because you are actively creating and engaged in finding a solution and creating change within your body. This is flipping the script, speak to yourself as you would a friend, a child, and you will shorten that gap faster than you realize. 575 | What Is It Costing You Not To?
In this episode, I am sharing a question I ask myself on a consistent basis to reframe a thought, a fear, an unknown or if I am having to make a difficult decision. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Every single thing has a price, a dollar value or a time value which is still a dollar value. Look at what your time is worth. Fear is temporary, regret is forever. People are quicker to take steps to cope with failures to live up to their capabilities and potential. 2) Using evidence, what is a message you can give yourself for a time in your life when you didn’t think you’d make it through but you did. I was asked this question and the first thing that came up was, “I look back at my younger self, 8 years ago, afraid to show up and use her voice, and I thank her for starting before she was ready and before she had the confidence to do so.” That state always reminds me that everything has a cost to it, and we get to decide the price of the regret. 574 | Become Your Own Health Hero with Lyn Delmastro-Thomson
In this episode we are speaking with Energy Healer and Hypnotist, Lyn Delmastro-Thomson. Lyn is a certified hypnotist and energy healer, using the healing systems of BodyTalk and Body Intuitive. She is also a speaker and author of the Amazon Best Seller, You Are Not Your Diagnosis. Lyn holds a master’s degree in somatic psychology. After being misdiagnosed with leukemia at the age of 25, Lyn became passionate about sharing with the world her message that just because a doctor has said an illness is "chronic" or "incurable" doesn't mean that it has to be a life sentence, and that western medicine isn't the only approach to healing. When we explore other holistic options, true healing, rather than symptom management, can occur. In this episode we discuss: 1) Lyn shares her experience of being misdiagnosed with leukemia when she was 25. She had to learn to own her power and choices in her healing journey. After continually declining in health yet being told by doctors that the treatment was working and not being given any answers, she had to take her health into her own hands. 2) Lyn learned the power of what she thinks and believes has a HUGE impact on her health and well-being and I have to choose to work with her mind to create health. 573 | Thoughts or Beliefs - Who's In Charge [Available on Patreon]
In this episode, I am sharing my perspective on thoughts or beliefs and who’s in charge. We dive into the relationship between emotions, thoughts and beliefs through the lens of NLP. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) From neurological research, the sensory input always goes through the emotional centres of the brain before it reaches the frontal cortex — the place for our rational thought. With that understanding, one must realize it is actually physically impossible for thought to come before emotions. 2) Our thoughts are only ever replaying the past or predicting the future. A belief is a thought you continue to have, and the faster you can interrupt and replace a thought will determine what you see, what you believe and what you create. 572 | Playing The "What If" Game
In this episode I am sharing some a message that I heard after a recent interview with Michael Hingson, and how as humans we play a constant what if game and if we could be more like a dog and let things go and move on, or as Ted Lasso says, “be the goldfish” and forget it. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) The what if game is putting a ton of emphasis and pressure into future events, trying to predict how they will turn out, what might happen, who will say what, how we will react etc, and we are playing with a ton of unknowns. Plus we have no idea how we will react or what it will look like. The most difficult moments in my life, I couldn’t have predicted or planned and definitely couldn't have opened up a book to figure out how I would respond. 2) What if we played the “wouldn’t it be cool game” instead, playing in possibilities, unexpected, open ended circumstances and playing in investing in the best possible outcome instead of the worst case scenario. We are creating our life with every single thought and emotion we have and are feeling, so why not give ourselves a better, fighting chance in possibilities? Connect with us on Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am talking to my hiders, the ones who are hiding in plain sight and telling themselves a story that it is working for them, or that it is too scary to change. I love this quote, “There is an old saying: If you want to hide the treasure, put it in plain sight. Then no one will see it.” ~ Larry Dossey. What if this is exactly what you are doing as a human? You are not wanting to be seen, heard, fly under the radar, maybe that was what was safe for you to do as a child, a trauma response. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) This might be the case in that you are hiding in plain sight, you are showing up, doing all the things, thinking you are doing what you need to do to be seen, to move yourself or your business forward, yet you know deep down you’re hiding. Hiding in plain sight might be disconnecting yourself from yourself, from not being honest with yourself, not telling yourself the truth, and these actions are blocking you from being seen. 2) Shrinking, hiding, playing small, think back to being asked a question in school, on a zoom, and you want to ask but it is easier to shrink down in your seat and pretend that all is fine. This is closely tied to your self-worth because “you don’t soar to the level of your hopes and dreams in life, you will always plateau to the level of your self-worth. And how you see and value yourself is an indicator of how you will allow yourself to be seen. 3) It is not just a confidence thing, since confidence is a verb, an action step and it is a way to help build belief in yourself. Hiding is serving something for you, or else you wouldn’t keep doing it. Get curious, ask yourself, your subconscious mind questions, and be ready for some answer. Questions like, “when did you decide that?”, “wouldn’t it be cool if _____” Join the OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification https://www.marshavanw.com/outspoken2023 Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of “When She Stopped Asking Why”. 569 | What Is Your Tipping Point?
In this episode I am sharing an answer to a question someone asked me at a recent networking event. They asked who my niche was, and if you know you know my thoughts on niche. I said I actually think there’s more of a connection between who they are, what their emotions are and where they are on their journey. Like a tipping point. Tipping points are turning points, the point of not going backwards, of having enough of your own BS, of the turning point in a story, I knew this had to be an episode. According to Webster’s dictionary, here is a definition of a tipping point, “the point at which a series of small changes or incidents becomes significant enough to cause a larger, more important change.” According to Malcolm Gladwell who wrote a book called The Tipping Point, “he says, “you know when you’ve hit a tipping point, “looking at the world around you. It may seem like an immovable, implacable place. It’s not, with the slightest push - in just the right place, it can be tipped. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) It only seemed fair to share my tipping point in sharing my story and how I got over myself to step into the role I felt I was called to show up for. 2) Here are some signs that you have hit your tipping point. Feeling stuck, feeling lost, uninspired, knowing you are meant for more, believing you are here to do way more and you’re done hiding and playing small. 568 | The Heart of a Musician with Theo Tams
In this episode we are speaking with Canadian singer, songwriter and performer, Theo Tams. Theo has been playing music since his teens and releasing music for the past 15 years. He has three albums and three EP’s to his credit along with a formidable collection of singles, and being the 6th season winner of Canadian Idol in 2008. Theo has put together a body of work that’s substantial and diverse and it speaks of an artist whose mission is growth and adventure. Theo lives in Toronto with his partner and their 11-year-old daughter explains that to understand where he’s going, it’s important to know where Tams has been until now. Born and raised in the small town of Coaldale in southern Alberta, Tams was raised in a strict Christian household, learning to sing in church (two services on Sundays), with a family that was steeped in music. He began writing poetry and prose pieces as a teenager, gradually moving towards songwriting influenced by the likes of Jewel, as well as confessional Canadian storytellers such as Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, Sarah Harmer, and Sarah Slean. After a series of rock bottom moments, Theo says he took the plunge of “spontaneous sobriety” in 2020, declaring himself finished and embarking on therapy that made a world of difference in his healing, and in Tams’ resolve. In this episode we discuss: 1) Theo shares his story as a Canadian Idol winner, sharing his open and vulnerable story dealing with addiction and how he found his way to where he is today. 2) Theo shares so much on what it is like to be in the public eye, to deal with criticism and hate, how he continues to support the LGBTQ community, and how he has actively worked to build a community to surround and support others. 567 | You Will Never Outperform Your Beliefs [Available on Patreon]
In this episode I am sharing a perspective shift and understanding I have learned firsthand and through this whole process of studying NLP. Achieving our goals is not always about working harder, doing more, working to the bone, it is about seeing where the limitations are, or the perceived limitations are. And no matter how hard you work, you will never outperform what you believe is possible for you. You will get close, almost reach your goals, but if you don’t see it as something as possible then it will never happen for you. This quote by John C. Maxwell is so good, “Successful people don’t have any fewer problems than unsuccessful people; they just have a different mindset in dealing with them.” In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Here are 5 of the most common limiting beliefs. I don’t have enough time; I don’t have the resources to be successful; I am not someone who follows through. I'm not good enough for x,y,z, and I don’t have what it takes to be successful. 2) Your mindset is informed by beliefs, values, experiences, and cultural background, among other factors that guide your thoughts and actions. Beliefs are mental representations of what we consider to be true or false. They are the foundation of our mindset and influence our perception of the world, self-image, and behaviour. 3) A limiting mindset, on the other hand, becomes your ceiling. You can’t outperform that belief. It holds you back and prevents you from achieving anything beyond it, such as “I’m not smart enough” or “I’m too old to learn new things.” Once you get locked onto a set of beliefs or a single lens, everything else revolves around that mindset. Your life becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Your beliefs shape your behaviour, which in turn shapes our outcomes, reinforcing our beliefs. If we believe we are incapable of achieving anything worthwhile, we are less likely to take the necessary actions to make them a reality. Mahatma Gandhi explains it beautifully, “Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.” Join the OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification https://www.marshavanw.com/outspoken2023 Connect with us on Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of “When She Stopped Asking Why”. 566 |The Affirmation You Didn't Want To Make
In this episode I am sharing some a message I heard Kute Blackson say and it was a gut punch, and it is a great spin on affirmations. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Affirmations do not work for everyone, find something that works for you, and support you where you are at and where you are going. If there is a lack of belief or a limiting belief or decision that is stopping you from believing it is possible for you, then start there first. Go to the root of it and do the work to ask the questions as to why you don’t believe it is possible for you. 2) We tend to hold onto things (people, relationships, etc.) even though we know they aren’t good for us, not the support we need, or we have a hard time admitting this. When you hold onto something that doesn’t serve you or where you are going, that is your affirmation to the universe that you are happy with what you currently have and actually don’t want what you say you do. 564 | What Is Your Next Level You? [Available on Patreon]
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts about your next level and what that looks like. To evolve into the best version of you is a lifelong task. What got you here won’t get you there mentality. Some people don’t even consider what their next level is, because even going there mentally is scary and coming up against your outer edge. Your outer reach of your capabilities is when all of our past stories, your failures feel like they’re thrown into our face as a reminder of why we can’t do something. The day you wake up and think, “I want more out of life” is the day your life will change. As Tony says, “our entire life can change in an instant.” - Tony Robbins In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Your next level you will always require more courage, grit, strength, surrender, trust, new levels, new devils. What if you are exactly where you are supposed to be, and how can you trust that a little bit more? 2) The next level of you requires a next level of you and the next level of you also requires that you let go of what you no longer need, what doesn’t serve you, and what isn’t supporting you as you move forward. What won’t move you forward is not telling the truth about what you know is or isn’t working in your life. Brutal honesty is so important. Achievers try to cover up their fear by saying they're being realistic, but in reality, they're only limiting themselves 3) This doesn’t mean doing, being or becoming more. It means coming back home to yourself, being in alignment, checking in, honouring your needs, valuing yourself or giving back to yourself. It will require clarity, honesty and for you to work on your beliefs in yourself because you will never outwork or out achieve what you believe to be possible. 563 | If You Don't Ask You Block Receiving What You Desire
In this episode I am sharing a recent story about asking for what you want, need or desire. This is not an easy one for most people to ask for help in any form, yet it can be the thing that actually brings you what you desire. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) No one likes to ask for help. It is so uncomfortable, maybe it feeds an old story, or maybe it is something that you feel is a sign of weakness. P.S it isn’t 2) Let’s talk about the difference between masculine and feminine energy and how you do need a dance of both. People want to help, they want to support and sometimes all it takes is one ask. 3)I had a recent story of receiving a box that was damaged, and it was the sticky note the delivery driver put on the box that made me smile and go the extra mile. I guarantee I wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t ask. So where are you blocking yourself from receiving what you desire, where can you ask for support, or where can you ask for a connection? Because if you desire it, it is available for you, it is up to you to creatively find a way to make it available. 561 | Are You Growing Your Self-Confidence? [Available on Patreon]
Join us in Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on self-confidence, are you growing it or squashing it, and what self-confidence actually means. Self-confidence is a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment. Self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your life. You know your strengths and weaknesses well, and have a positive view of yourself. You set realistic expectations and goals, communicate assertively, and can handle criticism. The challenge is that your external results will NEVER exceed your internal identity, what you believe you are worth or what you deserve. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Confidence is believing in yourself, feeling comfortable in your true-self, knowing you have worth. If you are confident, people believe you, confidence is attractive, brings success, helps to connect well with others and you generally feel happier. 2) This can start as simply as creating promises with yourself and following through with them consistently, from the workout, water, food, screen time, rest, honouring your needs, the standards you have set for yourself. The higher the standard, the deeper the self confidence goes, always challenge yourself to do one more rep! 3) Doorway trigger, say a sentence that leads to confidence when you enter a room, you are shifting your internal energy and what you are looking for and expecting to find. It’s also important to look at the root of why there is a lack of self-confidence, through TIME techniques, NLP tools and subconscious reprogramming you can get to the root of the issue. 560 | When Do You Learn How to Surrender?
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on the word surrender. By the time this episode was released, another episode featuring Kute Blackson, the author of the book, The Magic of Surrender. It is a fantastic book if you want to learn more about the power of surrender. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) When we surrender, we give up, but not in the way we think giving up means. We don't give up to the situation, but rather, we give up the notion that we should be able to or even can manage the situation, that we know anything that can help 2) There is freedom in letting go of our need to control the situation or fix the problem. We invite the possibility of more desirable options and outcomes. We find a sense of serenity as we see a broader picture. 3) Surrendering creates space because it's giving over of yourself to something else. It's allowing yourself to be filled with something other than your own worries and emotions. It starts with letting go of judgment, being mindfully aware of the present moment, and learning to live at cause in our life. 558 | How Is Your Self-Awareness [available on Patreon]
Listen to the full episode on Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on self-awareness and how it can be your greatest gift. It can be the thing that supports you in the first steps of creating change. Self-awareness is the ability to see yourself clearly and objectively through reflection and introspection. If you're highly self-aware, you can objectively evaluate yourself, manage your emotions, align your behavior with your values, and understand correctly how others perceive you. Those who are highly self-aware can interpret their actions, feelings, and thoughts objectively. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Self-awareness is the ability to tune in to your own feelings, thoughts, and actions. When people are self-aware, they understand their strengths and challenges and know what helps them thrive. emotional self-awareness is that most of us are on autopilot and don't even know it. We lock in our thoughts, beliefs, habits, and behaviors early in life. And that kind of hardwiring is tough to rewire. 2) When we look inward, we can clarify our values, thoughts, feelings, behaviors, strengths, and weaknesses. We are able to recognize the effect that we have on others. Start with being aware of your triggers, how you're landing with others, and how your routine behavior impacts your future opportunities. 3) Ways that you can improve your self-awareness is to meditate, slow down, move your body, recognize your boundaries, lead and coach yourself, see where your actions are not in line with your values, focus on one thing at a time, and watch your screen time, it is a huge and surprising trigger. 557 | The Moments That Define You
In this episode I am sharing thoughts on the moments in life that define you and a different spin on these moments. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) The typical moments include graduation, your first house or apartment, falling in love and getting married, seeing loved ones pass, fighting illnesses, memorable trips, finding success, or experiencing failure. What it’s more about is how you show up in these moments, how you handle them not working or how you work through adversity. 2) I recently interviewed a mom who lost her 21 year old son, she is currently writing a book on reflecting on life and growing through grief and she shared how it is our Pattern Interrupter moments that define us, how do you handle an adversity, how do you move through the challenge, and who can you become in the process. Life isn’t about checking the boxes, it is about building your legacy and knowing you lived. The little things become the big things. 3) More is said about our character in the moments that are not going as planned, when we are not “winning” than when everything is going our way. In this episode we are speaking with the Self-Mastery Mentor, Mahima. Mahima is Europe’s No 1 Self Mastery Mentor, Mindset Trainer, International Bestselling Author and Award Winning Speaker and Founder of The Mahima Mindset MAHIMA is the first Black Self Mastery Mentor to have spoken at The Harvard Club of Boston in July 2018. In 2017 she got to share the stage with Sir Richard Branson at a business development event in Singapore. She has also had the privilege to share the stage with other thought leaders like Les Brown, Kevin Harrington, Lisa Nichols, Vishen Lakhiani and Kane and Alessia Minkus. Mahima has done over 10 000 hours of meditation practice and to date has helped transform the lives of thousands of people, with her unique creations, “The inner peace formula” and “The own your superstar” multi award winning training. Since 1997 Mahima and her team have developed a world-class personal growth academy, which evolved into what is today known as The Mahima Mindset. The Mahima Mindset helps people find and live their higher purpose. In this episode we discuss: 1) Switching our emotions of comparison to inspiration. The people who we may look at and fall into comparison with are actually showing us what is possible, so if we can shift it to inspiration it opens up so much more possibility. 2) The power of self-love and how powerful it is to learn how to embrace and reclaim all parts of ourselves. The pieces that we are resisting can actually be the pieces that connect us to ourselves and others. This is the path that leads to finding our authentic message, the keys to being vulnerable and being yourself. 555 | What We Learn In The In-Between [available on Patreon]
Join the Patreon Community today! https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on the in-between, the time in between where we are today and where we think we are supposed to be. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) The in-between is the most uncomfortable time, where we aren’t where we want to be yet, and we equate that to doing something wrong, not enough, or that we are on the wrong path. There is power in the pause and this is the in-between space. We are not yet who we want to be and have to grow into the version of the person who can hold and handle the next level of success, yet that person is inside of us, it is up to us to bring them to life. 2) This is the time we feel the most resistance, the most struggle and resistance recruits allies, thank you Steven Pressfield, and it shows up a lot like self-sabotage. The power of the pause. This is the time to become the identity that you are desiring to be. Health, fitness, reader examples. To assume the identity is to become that version, what do you do, see, hear, feel if you have that identity. Use this in-between time to anchor in the traits of this person. Bringing in your subconscious mind and not just consciously setting the goals. Goal getter vs goal setter 3) At the identity level, the self-image, the ideas a person constructs about themselves and their behaviour, abilities and beliefs, mostly unconsciously. In this level of change it is our beliefs, our values that will shape our identity. 4) In this in-between we are learning more about ourselves, building on our non-strengths, learning what is required, and getting clear on what we do or don’t want. It is a time of pause, but it is a required time of learning. The more resistance we feel and feed on the longer we can stay in this in-between. It requires surrender, trust, aligned action, belief. This is where one small step or act of courage every day can move the needle forward to create results. If you rush the in-between, or crowd more into this space, you create a temporary crash landing of more in between. You might not know exactly where you are going, but you know that backwards isn’t an option. 554 | What Lesson In Life Am I Most Grateful For?
In this episode I am sharing my own answer to the last question I ask every single guest, yet I don’t know if I have fully answered it myself. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Where these questions originated from and why I wanted to include it at the end of each interview. 2) That no matter how isolated I feel in my situation or in my story, I am not alone. The only reason I feel alone is that I am making it about myself and I am not being open and vulnerable and those are strengths that I have cultivated over the years. Also what goes with this is when I feel alone I am making it about myself, and that never moves me out of my own mindset. 3) The best purpose I have ever felt is when I started to make this journey about others and how I could make an impact and show others what is possible. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Where it started 10+ years ago, and I am sharing what it felt like in those early days. 2) Some of the key turning points, the courage, the unknown, and the doors that opened up for me which felt like out of nowhere. The tickets to events gifted by strangers, the willingness to play full out, and how it was actually the discomfort that nudged me further. Good vs great 3) Now I am building a newer audience, becoming known for more than just sharing stories, following up on big visions, and still navigating doubt every single day. 551 | The Progress You Can’t See
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on the progress you can’t see, and how often we judge ourselves for the progress that we can’t see and then assume that nothing is happening. When you start judging yourself for the progress and then equating that to your value it will stop you faster than you realize. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) You can have full certainty in your vision, and not have certainty in the path or how you will get there. There’s a million ways to get there so how can you stay more open in all of the possible ways to get there? 2) Think of a bamboo tree. Its growth has been measured at almost 4 feet in a 24 hour period during the Spring shooting period. When the new shoot reaches its height, it will unfold its branches and new leaves. It teaches us lessons about patience, faith, perseverance, growth, development and, most importantly, human potential. It can take five years to grow. It has to be watered and fertilized in the ground where it has been planted every day. 3) Allow yourself to be proud of yourself and all the progress you've made. Especially the progress that no one else can see. You will overestimate what you can do in one year and underestimate what you can do in 10 years. You are literally the bamboo tree and sometimes it is one connection, one person, one opportunity or introduction that can change your story or situation. 550 | The Road From Hollywood To Wall Street with Robert Kerbeck
In this episode we are speaking with Author & former Corporate Spy, Robert Kerbeck’s. Robert’s true crime memoir, RUSE: Lying the American Dream from Hollywood to Wall Street is the story of how a wannabe actor became the world’s greatest corporate spy. Frank Abagnale, author of Catch Me If You Can, said, “Kerbeck has mastered the art of social engineering, or what he calls 'rusing', and taken it to a whole new level,” while Shondaland (the producer of the Netflix series Inventing Anna) described RUSE as "a story almost too good to be true with no shortage of wild stories.” Kerbeck’s previous book MALIBU BURNING: The Real Story Behind LA’s Most Devastating Wildfire, won a 2021 SoCal Journalism Award, the 2020 IPPY Award, and the 2020 Best of LA Award. His writing has appeared in numerous publications including the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Magazine, and Lithub’s Crime Reads. In this episode we discuss: 1) Robert’s pivot from the journey of a Hollywood actor to Wall Street as a former corporate spy to a writer and speaker sharing his story. We are never too old to pivot into the career we desire to have. 2) We are all walking through different stories and experiences and they are continually shaping us into who we are becoming and the work we are here to do. 548 | Will It Save You Or Consume You?
In this episode I am sharing my thoughts on a quote I heard Lori Harder say on a podcast. It stopped me in my tracks and I knew it was something I wanted to share more thoughts on. “If you bring forth what is within you, what is within you will save you. If you don’t bring forth what is within you, what is within you will consume you.” ~Lori Harder In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Ask yourself, what is consuming you? What is it that you are holding onto, overthinking and not bringing into the world that is consuming you? You know the thing that you are sitting on, waiting on, resisting, feeling frustrated over, that energy is all consuming for you and it is not moving the needle forward for you or for the impact you are here to create in the world. 2) If you bring forth what is within you, it will save you. I knew years ago that I was meant to bring my story forward, to do something good with it, and I spent so long sitting in doubt, fear, and uncertainty. She is a medical freedom advocate, a financial freedom advocate, and believes in the ability to create one's own reality. In this episode we dive into: 1) How we all are always working through different chapters of our life, and we will have moments of falling backwards, and how important it is to show others the process so they can find their way through and see what is possible. 2) The topic of shame, how shame is truly arrogance, how we are giving it far too much power, and how we can shift this by finding a human we can trust in being non-judgemental with us. This is truly the birthplace of changing the story and stepping into who we are truly meant to be. 3) Laura openly shares her story, the struggles and early challenges including overcoming addiction, bankruptcy and founding and creating the largest businesses mentorship company in the country for nurse coaches Connect with Laura: Email: [email protected] Website: https://www.thesuccessfulnursecoaches.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thesuccessfulnursecoach Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/successful_nursecoaches Marsha Vanwynsberghe — Storytelling Business Coach, 2xs Podcaster, Author, Speaker Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of “When She Stopped Asking Why”. 545 | Who is Actually Criticizing You?
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on criticism and encouraging you to stop and see who is actually criticizing you. When you can change where you see it coming from, you change how you see it and ultimately its effect on you. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Criticism is the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes. Fear of criticism or fear in general is one of the number one reasons why you are not showing up and using your gifts. 2) Who will criticize you more than what you criticize yourself? No one, we judge ourselves more than anyone. 3) This is the message I want to convey: no one will criticize you for what you are doing. It will always come from someone who isn’t doing what you are doing. 543 | The Path to Building Connections
In this episode I am sharing a powerful way to build connections with others. Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued, when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” – Dr. Brene Brown. The number one desire we all have is to build connections, to be seen and heard. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) There are four principles of conscious connections: empathy, authenticity, shared values, and support. So ask yourself if you are desiring more connections in your life, are you embodying these principles? Can you give empathy towards others, that is simply your ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Are you practicing authenticity (using your voice, message and values), and are you willing to give support to others without wanting or expecting something else in return? 2) Vulnerability is the path to building connections, “The definition of vulnerability is uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure. But vulnerability is not weakness; it's our most accurate measure of courage - Brene Brown. It is that unstable feeling we get when we step out of our comfort zone or do something that forces us to loosen control. 3) The number one desire we all have is to build connections, to be seen and heard. How can you go first and do this for someone else with no expectation for something in return? 542 | The People You Meet On The Way Up
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts about a message I heard recently after an interview with Brandon Puffer. His episode was #541 on the podcast. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Success, money, acknowledgement should only make you more of who you are. These things amplify who you are. If you become a different person (in a negative frame) in the process, then success is changing you. 2) Who you meet on the way up is who you might meet on the way down too. Let Brandon’s lesson in life that he is most grateful for ring through for you. 3) This relates to the book, “The Five People You Meet in Heaven”, by Mitch Albom. The core take aways are this: everything happens for a reason; sacrifices make an impact in the lives of other people; forgiveness; the essence of love; and every human life has a purpose. My personal take away from this book has always been that I never know who I am having an impact on and some of the people who have impacted me, I have never met. Our impact and reach goes far beyond us. That is legacy, choose to live it wisely. In this episode we are speaking with Motivational Speaker and Baseball Coach, Brandon Puffer. Brandon is an American former MLB player who played with the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. In 2007, Brandon signed with the Texas Rangers, playing for their Double A affiliate the Frisco RoughRiders. As a result, he was arrested for the intent of a crime and sentenced to 5 years in prison. After 3 1/2 years, he was eligible for parole and was free to start his new life over. Today, Brandon Puffer is the co-founder of GPS Legends where he serves as a coach and mentor to 17 year old players. The GPS Legends mission is to create a competitive baseball environment by instilling character, developing leaders and building confidence one player at a time. 540 | Rejection is Redirection
In this episode I am sharing a personal lesson, experience regarding the word rejection and what we are making it mean. In today’s episode we discuss: 1) Rejection is simply the act of pushing someone or something away. What if that person we are pushing away is ourselves? What if in the process we are pushing away the opportunities that are meant for us but we are the block? 2) Rejection is a re-direction, a tilt away from but also towards something new, like a course correction. This or something better? 3) Are you determined enough to do the reps, the work, the unseen work, the highs and lows, and trust that the rejection can be a redirection? This is a non-profit dedicated to educating families about youth substance abuse, and providing tools, speakers and courses to help parents who want to prevent their teens from using alcohol and drugs, but also to assist parents who have teens who are experiencing problems with using alcohol/drugs. 537 | Resistance is Growing Your Self-Doubt
In this episode (part 2 from episode #534), I am sharing some thoughts on resistance and a few quotes from the War of Art by Steven Pressfield. “The more important a call to action is to our soul's evolution, the closer you are to your life’s mission, the more resistance we will feel and the more resistance we will feel about answering it. But to yield to Resistance deforms our spirit. It stunts us and makes us less than we are and were born to be. Never forget: This very moment, we can change our lives.” In today’s episode we discuss: 1) You don’t overcome self-doubt, you build something bigger than it. You move through the resistance and become bigger than the self-doubt. Self-doubt comes from a belief, and when you have a belief your subconscious mind goes searching for proof either way. 2) What if what you are resisting in your self-growth is only feeding your self doubt? How can you get bigger than your self-doubt? Get into action, make promises to yourself and keep them, this will build confidence and belief in yourself. 3) Resistance is experienced as fear; the degree of fear equates to the strength of Resistance. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do. Remember our rule of thumb: The more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it. Resistance is experienced as fear; the degree of fear equates to the strength of resistance. 536 | What You See In Others Speaks Volume
In this episode, I am encouraging you to ask yourself some interesting questions. We can learn a lot about ourselves by how we see others, by what we see in others, and some of the first thoughts that come to mind when we meet people. I invite you to lift up the mirror for this episode because it might be enlightening! In today’s episode we discuss: 1) When judgment shows up, or you are having a heightened reaction to someone, stop and ask yourself where that is coming from and is that the person you want to be? 2) What if you think of yourself as having navigated a really difficult time, did you do the best you could at that time? What if someone else is actually in the same place? One of the basis of NLP is that people are doing the best they can with the information they have. What if we are doing our best and our best changes from day to day? What if that’s more than enough? 3) The next time you see something, someone that makes you think, why are they doing x,y,z, what if instead you stop and see the best in them, see them from a different light?
