Ep. 347 - Iain Stirling
BAFTA-winning comedian Iain Stirling is best known as the voice of the hit reality show Love Island, which is now in its 8th series. Iain appeared in series 8 of Taskmaster and took on the role of host for ITV2’s comedy entertainment show, CelebAbility (now in its fifth series). His sitcom, Buffering, a brand new comedy written, created by and starring Iain debuted on ITV2 in 2021. Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Show Nominee 2023 Ian Smith is a multi-award winning comedian, actor and writer as heard on BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz, The Now Show, Just A Minute and his own comedy-documentary Girl Stuck in Basketball Hoop. Ian’s 2023 Edinburgh Fringe show Crushing was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award and runner-up in Next Up's Biggest Award in Comedy. Ian is also a talented actor – starting off as a lead in BBC2 sitcom Popatron. Alex Horne is best known as the creator of BAFTA winning TV series Taskmaster, in which he takes the role of assistant to the Taskmaster Greg Davies. Taskmaster started in 2015 and versions of the programme have also been made in America, Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Finland and New Zealand. Since 2010, Alex has been performing with his band The Horne Section. Ep. 342 - Dave Cohen
Dave Cohen is a comedy writer who has written on shows including Not Going Out, Have I Got News For You, Spitting Image, My Family and Life of Riley. On Radio he’s written for shows including, The News Quiz, Dead Ringers, Sunday Format and 50 episodes of the Radio 4 show 15 Minute Musical with Richie Webb and David Quantick, which won the Writers Guild Best Comedy 2009. Dave wrote the lyrics for around 100 songs for CBBC show Horrible Histories – winning eight BAFTAs and a Rose d’Or. Dave started his career performing stand up and was nominated for the Edinburgh Fringe Perrier Award in 1984. Ep. 338 - Simon Parkin
Simon Parkin has been a professional broadcaster for over thirty years, first in the Children's BBC Broom Cupboard alongside Andi Peters and then on programmes such as Top of the Pops and The O Zone. In 1992 he went over to TV where he became one of the launch stars of the new breakfast television station GMTV. Ep. 323 - Roger Black
Roger Black is the former athlete who represented Great Britain at the highest level, both as an individual 400m runner and as a member of the 4x400m relay team. He won 15 major Championship medals including World, European and Commonwealth Gold medals and Silver and Bronze Olympic medals. Roger was also British Men's Team Captain. His greatest achievement, he says, was winning the Olympic 400m silver medal in 1996 in Atlanta, beaten by the great Michael Johnson. Since his retirement from Athletics he has worked as a motivational speaker, talking to people all around the world about the many similarities between high performance in the worlds of sport and business. Doug Allan was lead cameraman on The Blue Planet, Planet Earth, Life, Human Planet, Frozen Planet, Expedition Iceberg and Forces of Nature and is responsible for some of the most famous wildlife footage ever filmed, including the extraordinary sequence of killer whales creating waves to wash seals off ice floes in Antarctica. Ep. 308 - Professor Turi King
Professor Turi King is best known her work, “cracking one of the biggest forensic DNA cases in history”, leading the genetic analysis for the identification of King Richard III, whose remains were found under a carpark in Leicester. Turi presents, alongside Stacey Dooley, the BBC Two genealogy series, DNA Family Secrets. Turi has a PhD in Molecular Genetics on genetic genealogy. Her award-winning PhD examined the relationship between the Y chromosome and British surnames combining forensic DNA techniques with history and genealogy, the first large scale study of its kind. Named as one of the world’s ‘rockstar genealogists’, her work since has covered not only family history but the use of genetic genealogy in forensics and historical cases. Turi presents the BBC Radio 4 documentary "Genetics and the Longer arm of the Law”. She advises on numerous television programmes and provides genetic expertise to a number of famous crime writers, including Patricia Cornwell. Turi is about to embark on a tour of theatres around the country. Stuart Laws is a comedian, director, producer and writer and has supported James Acaster on his UK tours. He has two specials on NextUp Comedy and wrote the play “The Journey” that debuted at The Edinburgh Fringe in 2018. His 2019 Edinburgh show is now available as a comedy special on American label 800 Pound Gorilla. He runs his own production company Turtle Canyon Comedy and has produced and directed shows for Netflix, Prime, Channel 4, BBC, ITV and Sky. In 2017 Stuart produced and directed a comedy travelogue for Sky with James Acaster about the turning on of the Christmas lights in James's home town of Kettering.
