Global comedy superstar and ventriloquist, Jeff Dunham holds the World record for "Most tickets sold for a stand-up comedy tour”! He held “Billboard’s Top Comedy Tour” for three consecutive years and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Paul Putner is an actor and comedian best known for his roles in Little Britain, Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle and This Morning with Richard Not Judy as The Curious Orange. Paul also toured in the Little Britain Live show and later appeared in Matt Lucas and David Walliams' TV follow-up, Come Fly with Me. Other TV and film appearance include Spaced, Look Around You, The Peter Serafinowicz Show, Downton Abby, Call The Midwife, Shaun of the Dead and Black Books. John O’Farrell returns with a brand new time capsule! John O’Farrell is an author and comedy script writer. He was a writer for such shows as Spitting Image, Grumpy Old Men and Have I Got News For You. He co-wrote the Aardman animation film Early Man with Nick Park and wrote the film Chicken Run and it’s sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. He wrote the book for the Broadway musical Something Rotten which was nominated for 10 Tony Awards including a “Best Book” nomination for John. He also wrote the Broadway and West End hit music Mrs Doubtfire and the upcoming Live Aid Musical Just, For One Day, He’s written numerous books including Things Can Only Get Better, An Utterly Impartial History of Britain and The Man Who Forgot His Wife and has sold over 1 Million books in the UK alone. New York comedian Modi was voted one of the top 10 comedians in New York City by The Hollywood Reporter and has been featured on HBO, CBS, NBC, ABC, Comedy Central, Howard Stern, and E! Entertainment. Modi has received rave reviews in The New York Times, Time Out NY and The New York Post. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Modi emigrated with his family to the United States at the age of seven. Equipped with a sharp wit and a knack for reading an audience, Modi has gone on to become a successful fixture in New York's vibrant comedy scene, often doing bits that incorporate his heritage, and he is a hit with diverse Jewish audiences as well as fans of all backgrounds and beliefs. Ep. 439 - Karl Howman
Karl Howman is best known for playing Jacko in the sitcom Brush Strokes from 1986 to 1991, Mulberry in Mulberry from 1992 to 1993 and Buster Briggs in EastEnders from 2014 to 2016. As a writer, his first book, Secret Spitfires, went to paperback from hardback in 2022; he also co-directed and produced the film of the same name. Ep. 434 - Will Eaves
Will Eaves is a British writer, poet and professor at the University of Warwick. He began writing for the Times Literary Supplement in 1992 and joined the paper as its Arts Editor in 1995. He left in 2011 to become an Associate Professor in the Writing Programme at the University of Warwick. In 2020, he judged the Goldsmiths Prize and was a Visiting Research Fellow at Merton College, Oxford. In 2016, he was a Sassoon Visiting Fellow at the Bodleian Library. He has written five novels, two books of poetry, and one volume of literary essays. For for book Murmur, Eaves was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize and won the Wellcome Book Prize. He has given talks, seminars and readings around the world and has appeared several times on BBC Radio 3’s The Verb, with Ian Macmillan, and on BBC Radio 4’s Start the Week and Open Book. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. His book The Point of Distraction is out now and you can preorder Invasion of the Polyhedrons any time. Peter York is an author and broadcaster who came to fame writing the Sloane Ranger Handbook with Ann Barr. He was also the Style Editor of Harpers & Queen for 10 years and became a media commentator on English social trends and traits, regularly appearing on television. Ep. 424 - Major-General Chip Chapman
Major-General Chapman joined the British Army in September 1980. He joined 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (2 PARA) and fought in the Falklands campaign, including the Battle of Goose Green. He stayed with 2 PARA until May 1985 which included his first Northern Ireland tour. In 1994 he returned to 2 PARA as a company commander for an 18 month operational tour in Belfast, prior to becoming 2IC 1 PARA and was promoted to Lt Col in March 1996. In July 1998 he became SO1 Operations in NI, and went on to command 2 PARA from August 1999-December 2001. His tour as CO included a NI reinforcement tour and the weapons collection mission (OP BESSEMER) in Macedonia. He was promoted to Colonel in December 2001 and appointed Colonel Military Operations 2 in the MoD (dealing with Counter Terrorism). As a Brigadier, he commanded 19 Mech Bde from 2003-2005, prior to becoming the last COS in NI (his fifth NI tour). He was Head of Counter Terrorism and UK Operations in the MoD from 2007-2010. In 2010, he became the Senior British Military Advisor to US Central Command. Archie Henderson is an award-winning writer, actor, musician, and creator of viral comedy character Jazz Emu, whose videos and songs have garnered over 50 million streams. He was named as the 26th out of 50 funniest comedians of the 21st Century by The Telegraph. Ep. 417 - Elvis McGonagall
Elvis McGonagall is a stand-up poet, comedian and broadcaster. Two series of his sitcom “Elvis McGonagall Takes A Look On The Bright Side” have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 where he appears regularly as well as popping up occasionally on the television. Elvis is the 2006 World Poetry Slam Champion, the compere of The Blue Suede Sporran Club and performs at literary and music festivals, comedy and cabaret clubs, pubs and dodgy dives up and down the country and abroad, including appearances at: Edinburgh Fringe and Glastonbury Festival where he was poet-in-residence in 2007. Elvis also gigs with his band The Resurrectors “an unholy marriage of radical stand-up poetry and Caledonian punkabilly rock ‘n roll”. In 2015 Elvis made the “Hot 100” - The List magazine’s annual run-down of Scotland’s “hottest cultural contributors”. A collection of his poems from 2003 to 2017 entitled “Viva Loch Lomond!” was published in 2017 and a second volume entitled “Complete & Utter Cult!” was published in December 2020. Continuing our Edinburgh Month... Canadian comedian Michelle Shaughnessy fast made a name for herself across North America. She’s had numerous appearances on television and her debut album “You Know What You Did” hit number one on the iTunes comedy charts. Her sophomore album “Botoxic” received a coveted 5 star review from Toronto’s NOW Magazine. Ep. 405 - Garrett Millerick
Garrett Millerick’s breakout television performance was on the hit US late-night talk show Conan. His live show Sunflower became one of the best reviewed and most talked about shows of 2018, both at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and subsequently at London’s Soho Theatre. The show was Time Out London’s No.1 Comedy Pick and saw Garrett receive a nomination for ‘Breakthrough Act’ at the 2019 Chortle Awards. Garrett has since followed up the show with Smile and Just Trying to Help. The Times called Smile one of the stand out shows of the year and The British Comedy Guide named it one of the best reviewed shows of the year. Steve Bugeja is one of the circuit’s most exciting comedians. Steve hosted the BBC Radio 4 series Economics with Subtitles and has made numerous appearances on TV shows including The Russell Howard Hour (Sky One), Love Island: Aftersun (ITV2), Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central) and Zoe Ball on Saturday (ITV1). Kim Leadbeater MBE has been a Labour MP since 2021. She is MP for Batley and Spen which is where her sister, Jo Cox, also sat until her tragic murder in June 2016. As of June 2023 she is chair of the all-party parliamentary groups on Sport and Tidy Britain, co-chair of the groups on Political Literacy and on Tackling Loneliness and Connected Communities. In 2020, she was appointed President of West Yorkshire Scouts. In 2018, Kim was awarded the UK's one thousandth Points of Light award by Prime Minister Theresa May for having "rejected the hate that marked her sister's murder to continue Jo's work and ensure that Jo's determination to change the world has lived on." In the 2021 New Year Honours, Kim was appointed MBE and The Spectator named her as 2021's "Newcomer of the Year".
