Ep. 530 Gabriele Gorelli MW | Monty Waldin Interviews
Italian Wine Podcast episode 530
Monty Waldin has a chat with the first Master of Wine of Italy Gabriele Gorelli MW.
Gabriele Gorelli was born in Montalcino in 1984. His grandfather used to be the smallest Brunello di Montalcino producer, accounting for a mere 0,46ha’s. That’s where he developed a real passion for wine. After completing his studies in Languages in 2004 he co-founded a wine-oriented advertising agency, Brookshaw&Gorelli. Over the years, he has had the opportunity to consult for many Italian wineries and Consortiums. In 2015, Gabriele started his studies at the ‘Institute of Masters of Wine’. He is now the sole Italian Master of Wine. During the same year, he co-founded KH Wines S.r.l., a company that helps European wineries in export markets. Nowadays, KH Wines holds a significant number of custom-made products designed from scratch, from the sensory profile end of the spectrum, to packaging, to storytelling. Since 2019, he has been the ambassador for Italy at the ‘International Wine Challenge’ in London.

She just couldn't get Into the Groove (Madonna reference 2) of Attilio's words and she would just get True Blue (Madonna reference 3). But now, after just a couple minutes with Mr. Science, she looked at herself in the mirror and said, hey, I now get 60% of what he is saying!! Who's That Girl?? (Madonna reference 4)! We await for the day when Shtevie will also have her own podcast where she talks about the soils of La Peninsula Bonita (Madonna reference 5 - and best one.)

Ep. 518 #everybodyneedsabitofscienza | Soil: Central Italy
Hi. I've been thinking about this little space that i cut out for myself and myself only each friday. I tell you so much about my life, and yes sometimes I overshare my thoughts and it gets messy, but I enjoy doing it.. But yeah I was thinking... Do these people ACTUALLY know who is speaking here is this lil box? Well, let me fix that.
Just in the same way that Prof. Scienza wants to go deep in the italian soils, I feel like I should do the same. In this episode especially, he talks about central Italy, the core of il Belpaese, while I try to work on my core 2 or 3 times per week with no results #sad.
Scienza talks about seas, lakes and rivers, while the rivers i see are just the ones i cry (cit. Justin Timberlake, Cry me a River, one of the best masterpieces ever created.)
Scienza goes on and on about minerality and I have to say I've been at my rock bottom so many times that I start to get what Scienza is saying.
Il Professore said something that shook me: he said that even the soil material found on the mountains is sometimes been dragged by the sea. #GOALS.
A buon intenditor.

Italian Wine Podcast Episode episode 497: Wine Competitions and Scores vs. Social Media Stories and Pictures. What makes people buy?
Session by Robert Joseph and Polly Hammond
For the last three decades, the global wine industry has obsessed over numbers and medals. US retailers refused to list wines with less than 87 points while ones in Britain demanded at least a Bronze medal. Then, almost overnight, the secret to wine sales shifted to storytelling and eye-catching images on Instagram. Wine producers have every right to feel confused. In this session, Polly Hammond and Robert Joseph will attempt to make some sense of this situation.

This session focuses on this growing trend linked to digital marketing and e-commerce. It showcases case studies from wineries and wine regions who have been successful in embracing an important aspect of the future of wine tourism.
