Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 8 Ep8: Special guest Mark Resnick
Mark Resnick is an entrepreneur, husband, father, coach, and author. His book, Ten Days With Dad: Finding Purpose, Passion & Peace During the Darkest Days of Alzheimer’s and COVID-19, was published in March and is available on Amazon.
Mark has wanted to be a writer since the fifth grade, when Mrs. Blake, his English teacher, encouraged him to consider writing outside the confines of her classroom.
Growing up in Norwell, Massachusetts wasn’t special, but sharing a house with his dad and two brothers was. Most of the time they didn’t know what we were doing, both literally and figuratively, but found their roles and fulfilled them the best they could. Mark has remained true to his middle child mold ever since, which has served him well more often than not.
In 2014, his father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Within four years of his diagnosis, his dad could no longer drive, cook, or take his medications. When the dementia demons took over, he couldn’t stay in his home, either.
His dad spent ten unforgettable days with Mark’s family prior to moving into assisted living, and eventually a nursing home. Over the course of eighteen months, they shared more than 200 meals and 600 cups of coffee, during which time, Mark got to know his dad—and himself—better than at any point in their lives.
During the darkest days of COVID-19 and Alzheimer’s, his dad’s memory, dignity, and, ultimately, his life were stolen from him, and yet, Mark found his purpose, passion, and peace in his life.
Ten Days with Dad is a story about family, progress, personal growth, and healing, born out of a terrible disease and a once-in-a-century global pandemic.
A promotional branding expert by day and writer in the evening, Mark’s other passions include baking, fishing, and visiting Maui with his family. To connect with Mark, visit www.markjresnick.com. His book is available on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TYRG9X6
Mark currently lives in MA with Coleen, his wife of 25 years. They are in the throes of putting their kids through college and high school. From Richmond to Fairfield, and locally to Xaverian Brothers HS, they bounce back and forth, offering counsel as needed, encouragement when allowed, and nourishment–which is always enthusiastically accepted!
