In 2015 Annie Spano was lost and depressed because she was being bullied at her corporate job. Then she started blogging and connected with other women bloggers. Having that community made her feel like herself again. She decided to leave her job and create a membership-based blogger tribe for women, Style Collective.
Question Highlights:
-How did you build a dream when you and your husband were both unemployed?
-Is it possible for people to figure out what they want if they’re in a bad environment?
-How do you deal when people say you’re selfish for prioritizing your needs?
-What is the worst thing you’ve experienced in business?
-How can people start building a support system from nothing?
-How do you operate from abundance even when people take advantage?
Guest Bio:
Annie Spano is a former math teacher and corporate marketer with a BS in mathematics education and an MBA. She is the Founder of Style Collective, an online supportive community with influencer education that empowers women to find their purpose, be inclusive and achieve success.
Style Collective was created in reaction to an experience no other woman should ever have. In late 2015, Annie left her job in corporate marketing after being bullied and harassed by another woman in the workplace. The experience left her feeling defeated and emotionally drained. She wished there was a way for women to work together and help each other achieve success. Annie has since made it her mission to empower other women, improve their happiness, and help them achieve their goals through sisterhood and support of a shared passion. Style Collective is the realization of that mission.

I just got back from an amazing trip to NYC. That city, I swear to you, is like the most amazing perspective shifter. It's so incredible to me how this city of millions and millions of people just thrives in the chaos. I think it’s a perfect example of how you can choose to focus on either the negative or the positive. Coming back from my trip I got a head cold so I’m not feeling great. When I’m feeling under the weather is when I start doubting myself. And I realized that at this time of building a new company, I'm going to have to take even better care of myself. So if you want to be successful, pay attention to who you're around, what you're listening to, what you're doing and what you're eating. Six years ago Ashley LeMieux and her husband got a phone call asking them to become parents of a six-year-old and a four-year-old. They weren’t looking to adopt or foster at the time, but they said yes, and their life became all about their new family. During the final stages of the adoption process they experienced an unexpected contested adoption, which meant that they spent over a year and a half in court fighting to keep their family together. In the end the kids were taken from them with 12 hours notice and Ashley and her husband were not even allowed to tell the kids they weren’t coming home. Ashley says the past two years have been filled with her trying to figure out how to find a life again after it was all taken away. She felt buried by pain for so long she couldn’t work out how to move forward, but her journey through that has ignited everything she’s doing now. To begin she started a morning routine that added purpose back into her day. She wanted to write a book about her experiences and, after 30 different publishers said no, she figured out that no-one else’s opinion mattered and did it anyway. Her book, Born To Shine, shares stories, lessons, and practical tools to help women shine despite the darkness, to press forward one day at a time even when there is no end in sight, and to turn their most painful moments into their greatest teachers and signposts to true, deep, unassailable joy.
Question Highlights:
How do you find closure when you couldn’t say goodbye to your kids?
Was writing your book therapeutic?
What should people do when they can’t see a way out of suffering?
How can we believe in the significance of our story?
How do we bring divine ideas to life and have faith in them even when they've lost their excitement?

If you’re not taking actions that support your highest self, you get resentful toward yourself, the people that you love of other people and people who are inspiring to you. You feel anger, anxiety, isolation, comparison, and depression. The most important thing you can do is to really take note of how you're holding yourself back and learn to move forward. In second grade Chase Jarvis loved doing stand-up comedy and produced a weekly comic book strip. Because we gravitate to where we get rewarded, he became an athlete, went to college on a soccer scholarship and made the Olympic Development Program soccer team. Then, a week before Chase graduated college, his grandfather died from a heart attack and left Chase his cameras. Chase started teaching himself how to take pictures and that led to his career as one of the most influential photographers of the past decade, the developer of the first photo app to share images to social networks and the founder of CreativeLive. Now Chase is on a mission to break down myths about what creativity is and who can practice it. He says that when we look at all the decisions we make every day - what you're going to have for dinner, what business that you're going to build - as creative acts, that’s when we understand that we have the agency to create our lives.

Lately I've been fierce about making sure that I have room in my calendar for all of my new projects. And I am so proud of myself because, looking back at last year, I had a calendar full of things that I didn't necessarily want to do. I was more reacting to life than actually taking time to think if it was something that would move the needle forward. I was doing things because I didn't want to say no and hurt people's feelings. Show Notes:
Dr. Morgan Francis joins me to talk about cultivating self-love, particularly in the face of diet culture and a societal obsession with external appearance. Dr. Morgan spent years trying to avoid the pain of her brother’s death when she was a teenager and one of the ways she did this was by developing an eating disorder. She says she knew there was a problem when she was out on a date and she could not even pay attention to what he was saying because bread had been put on the table. Now she is a therapist and runs an online course for women looking to improve their body image.
Question Highlights:
How do we stop yourself getting stuck in fear and worry?
What are the phases of grief?
How can we accept the pain that comes with all of the beautiful things in life?
Where did your passion for helping others come from?
How do we know when we need help?
How do we confront our problem, but not get stuck in the problem?
Why is body image such a hot spot for you?
How can we focus on building our identity outside of our external appearance?
What was the Minnesota starvation study?
Guest Bio:
Dr. Morgan Francis is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, a licensed mental health therapist and the owner of Scottsdale Premier Counseling. Her mission is to break through the mental health shame game. With over 20 years of experience specializing in the treatment of eating disorders and negative body image, Dr. Francis can empower you to make peace with your body and food.
For too long society has been embracing diet culture and pushing you to believe how you look is not good enough. No matter how thin or fit you look, you cannot outrun the pressures that surround you because the transformation of loving and appreciating your body happens internally, not externally. Dr. Francis’ online courses on body image and self-love will help you to take back your life.

Today’s episode is all about getting comfortable with fear and failure. These are the only things that are stopping you from living your biggest dream and living out the gifts that God gave you. And when you don’t live your biggest dream, you're stopping the person who you're meant to help from getting the help that they need. You are literally cutting off their lifeline because that message is meant to come through you. Write down what you’re afraid of to see how ridiculous your thoughts are. Are you scared that your opinionated friend Becky is going to say something on Instagram? Are you scared that your moms’ group is going to say, who do you think you are? Are you scared that your husband or ex-boyfriend will say you're failing again? I want you to literally ask pain and fear to bring it on because you can handle it. Pain and the failure is where all of the learning and value is. Bring it on. You can do hard things, you can handle hard things. You can handle feedback, you can handle criticism. You choose if you're going to get taken down or you get back up but every time you get back up, you get stronger, you grow a muscle. I hope today’s quickie serves as a reminder or way for you to be able to get back to the heart-centered reason of WHY you’re working on your dreams.

The Bliss Project 2020
Show Notes:
Today’s episode is all about fear. There are three main things that you need to know. Firstly, fear is your friend. When we resist fear, we're so focused on what we don't want to happen. We're so focused on building stories that don't actually exist yet that we're not actually putting our energy towards moving forward and taking action and creating a world where no matter what, we are only focusing on winning, and we're only focusing on things going right. So give it an outlet and space to acknowledge it in. Secondly fear has so many beautiful messages for you. It's trying to tell us something, like, hey, this might need a little bit more attention, or, you need a little more support around this. Thirdly, your fear marks the exact spot to where you need to go. Write down the three actions that you're most afraid of doing. One of those is most likely the thing that you need to do in the next week. If you don't get comfortable with fear, you'll never be able to create what you want because every step you take is uncertain. And there is no one there to tell you that you have made a good decision because you're the boss. I hope today’s quickie serves as a reminder or way for you to be able to get back to the heart-centered reason of WHY you’re working on your dreams.
