The 2019 Masters golf tournament became the defining moment of just what a comeback is - both in sports and in life. Over two-and-a-half decades ago the sports world in general, and the golf establishment in particular, was struck by a bolt of lightning, the likes of which they never dreamed. Twenty-one-year-old wunderkind Tiger Woods won the most prestigious golf tournament in the world, The Masters, by a record twelve strokes and breaking the course record.in his first time playing the tournament.and in his first appearance in a major tournament. He was the youngest golfer to win The Masters, and the first African-American or Asian-American player to win a major. As Bob Harig reports in his new book, DRIVE: The Lasting Legacy of Tiger Woods (St. Martin's Press, on sale date March 26, 2024; $30), history wasn't just made that day, rather, it was only just beginning. Over the next 15+ years Woods transformed the game, setting course records and winning majors at a record pace. What he was doing, though, was more than just winning on the golf course. He was winning fans over like no one had ever done before in golf. In doing so, ratings were never higher, marketing the game was never more so successful. Actor And Author Brett Gelman Releases The Terrifying Realm Of The Possible Nearly True Stories

Ben Dusing From Free Store At The Front Kherson Ukraine Episode Two Isis Attacks Russia
The geography speaks for itself. The bad guys are just kilometers away, across the river. We are the only international (or locals) with a brick and mortar office downtown, for them to go for help. No assistance from govt unless elderly, and the assistance they get is shit. Office safe from “normal” shelling (tank fire, most mortars). Glide bombs and attack drones are new since Ukrainians landed on other side and have beachhead. Quietly, that is a total massacre over there — poorly kept secret here. can’t do much about the big stuff … if we get hit with a glide bomb we’re fucked. I like our chances. Mon wed Friday the FREE STORE AT THE FRONT is open at our office. Basic foods medicines hygiene and winter clothes. Mondays we run bread into insanely dangerous places by the Antonivky bridge, do other stuff like that. Off the radar. For city admin. Singer Songwriter John Ondrasik From Five For Fighting The Music Matters Challenge
“Music Matters Challenge” that will be launching on March 26, coinciding with “Music In Our Schools Month,” a national online music challenge that will help raise awareness and dedicate resources for music programs in the nation’s underserved schools. Two grand prizes will be awarded – one for an individual ($10,000 in cash and the opportunity to select a music teacher to receive a three year salary); and one for school entries (a $25,000 school grant). John created the challenge with Cayley Tullman of the Tullman Family Office, after the Grammy nominated singer/songwriter, Tullman, and a group of eight students participated in weekly after-school workshops to compose an original song, “Let Music Fill My World,” which expressed why music mattered in their lives. The students wrote all of the verses in the song themselves, and had the opportunity to professionally record their song and create a music video with the help of seasoned industry music producers. As a part of this effort, the Tullman Family Office fully funded a full-time music teacher for the students at Chicago’s Farragut Career Academy, which propelled the idea to create the “Music Matters Challenge.” To enter the contest, visit: www.letmusicfillmyworld.com. Former Nun Now Author Catherine Coldstream Releases Cloistered My Years As A Nun
An astonishing memoir of twelve years as a contemplative nun in a silent monastery. Cloistered takes the reader deep into the hidden world of a traditional Carmelite monastery as it approaches the third Millennium and tells the story of an intense personal journey into and out of an enclosed life of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Finding an apparently perfect world at Akenside Priory, in Northumberland, Catherine trusts herself to a group of twenty silent women, believing she is trusting herself to God. As the beauty and mystery of an ancient way of life enfold her, she surrenders herself wholly to its power, quite unaware of the complexity and dangers that lie ahead. Cut off from the wider world for decades, the community has managed to evade accountability to any authority beyond itself. When Sister Catherine realizes that a mesmerizing cult of the personality, with the distortions it entails, has replaced the ancient ideal of religious obedience, she is faced with a dilemma. Will she submit to this, or will she be forced to speak out? An exploration of the limits of trust, Cloistered shows us how far youthful idealism can take us along the road of self-surrender, and of how much harm is done when institutional flaws go unacknowledged. Catherine's honest account of her time in the monastery - and her dramatic flight from it - is both a love song to a lost community and an exploration of what is most compelling, yet most potentially destructive when closed human groups become laws unto themselves.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Surviving In Death Valley Brent Underwood Releases The Book Ghost Town Living
A long-abandoned silver mine for sale sounded like an adventure too great to pass up, but it turned into much more-a calling, a community of millions, and hard-earned lessons about chasing impractical dreams. "Inspiring and meditative-the story of man vs nature and man vs himself."-Ryan Holiday, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Obstacle is the Way The siren song of Cerro Gordo, a desolate ghost town perched high above Death Valley, has seduced thousands since the 1800s, but few fell harder for it than Brent Underwood, who moved there in March of 2020, only to be immediately snowed in and trapped for weeks. It had once been the largest silver mine in California. Over $500 million worth of ore was pulled from the miles of tunnels below the town. Butch Cassidy, Mark Twain, and other infamous characters of the American West were rumored to have stayed there. Newspapers reported a murder a week. But that was over 150 years ago.Underwood bet his life savings-and his life-on this majestic, hardscrabble town that had broken its fair share of ambitious men and women. What followed were fires, floods, earthquakes, and perhaps strangest, fame. Ghost Town Living tells the story of a man against the elements, a forgotten historic place against the modern world, and a dream against all odds-one that has captured millions of followers around the world. He came looking for a challenge different from the traditional 9-5 job but discovered something much more fulfilling-an undertaking that would call on all of himself and push him beyond what he knew he was capable of. In fact, to bring this abandoned town back to life, Brent had to learn a wealth of new self-sufficiency and problem-solving skills from many generous mentors. Ghost Town Living is a thrilling read, but it's also a call to action-to question our too-practical lives and instead seek adventure, build something original, redefine work, and embrace the unknown. It shows what it means to dedicate your life to something, to take a mighty swing at a crazy idea and, like the cardsharps who once haunted Cerro Gordo, go all in.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Writer And Journalist Daniel De Vise Releases The Book The Blues Brothers
The story of the epic friendship between John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, the golden era of improv, and the making of a comedic film classic that helped shape our popular culture. "They're not going to catch us," Dan Aykroyd as Elwood Blues tells his brother Jake, played by John Belushi. "We're on a mission from God." So opens the musical action comedy The Blues Brothers, which hit theatres on June 20, 1980. Their scripted mission was to save a local Chicago orphanage; but Aykroyd, who conceived and wrote the film, had a greater mission: to honor the then-seemingly forgotten tradition of rhythm and blues, some of whose greatest artists-Aretha Franklin, James Brown, John Lee Hooker, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles-made the film as unforgettable as its wild car chases. Late and vastly over budget, beset by mercurial and oft drugged-out stars, The Blues Brothers opened to tepid reviews at best. However, in the 44 years since it has been acknowledged a classic: inducted into the National Film Registry for its cultural significance; even declared a "Catholic classic" by the Church itself; and re-aired thousands of times on television to huge worldwide audiences. It is, undeniably, one of the most significant films of the 20th century. The story behind any classic is rich; the saga behind The Blues Brothers, as Daniel de Visé reveals, is epic, encompassing the colorful childhoods of Belushi and Aykroyd; the comedic revolution sparked by Harvard's Lampoon and Chicago's Second City; the birth and anecdote-rich, drug-filled early years of Saturday Night Live, where the Blues Brothers were born as an act amidst turmoil and rivalry; and of course the indelible behind-the-scenes narrative of how the film was made, scene by memorable scene. Based on original research and dozens of interviews probing the memories of principals from director John Landis and producer Bob Weiss to SNL creator Lorne Michaels and Aykroyd himself, The Blues Brothers vividly portrays the creative geniuses behind modern comedy.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Journalist Chris Moody From The Podcast Finding Matt Drudge
In the world of media and journalism, few names hold as much sway and mystique as Matt Drudge, the elusive force behind The Drudge Report. Despite being perhaps the most important media influencer of the last generation, very little is known about him. While his Drudge Report acts as the unofficial assignment editor for major newspapers and cable news networks, Drudge is rarely seen. In the last decade, he has gone from being the hero of the Trump right for his support of Donald Trump in 2016, to traitor to the Trump movement for turning against Trump in the lead up to the 2020 election. Some question whether Drudge even runs his own site anymore. It would be useful to ask him, but few know where to find him. The last public interview he gave was almost a decade ago. The Investigation Is Everything True Crime Author Doug Kari Releases The Berman Murders
At daybreak on January 6, 1986, a couple on a camping trip in the Mojave Desert set out for a stroll and never returned. The local sheriff’s office eventually discovered that Barry Berman, heir to the Kahlua fortune, and his wife Louise had been murdered. As years passed and the double homicide remained unsolved, the Berman case spawned speculation and conjecture. Despite extensive investigation by local and federal authorities, the case remains unsolved -- there’s never been an arrest, let alone a conviction. After years of investigation, research, and interviews, Kari was able to link the Berman murders to a Cambodian sex crimes and trafficking case involving a former Marine. Author And Racial Justice Educator Debby Iirving Celebrates The 10th Anniversary Waking Up White
Author and racial justice educator Debby Irving couldn’t find a publisher in 2014 for Waking Up White: Finding Myself in the Story of Race, because no one in the industry really understood what a white racial identity memoir would look like. So she self-published this very readable, very relatable and very successful book that is "...a remarkable and, at times, emotionally searing look at one white woman's struggle to understand racism. It is part memoir and part guide to changing how we think about race...one of the most important books on race in recent memory. “ (Readers and Writers Journal). It has since been also published as an audiobook, earning close to five stars on Audible. The lifespan of Waking Up White follows a particularly intense historic arc in the ongoing movement for racial justice. Ten years and 275,000-copies later, Waking Up White continues to impact communities all over the country to break through the colorblind and saviorism syndromes of the white experience of racism. The book has been read by countless book clubs, campus reads, town reads, DEI reads, church reads, families, the Presbyterian Church, and Regional Read in La Crosse Wisconsin, among many others. It is the Episcopal Church Sacred Ground core book. Educational Study Guides and facilitated workshops have been designed around it. It is a “life changing book you won’t be able to put down,” according to Katie Couric Media. NY Times Best Selling Author And Columnist Steve Phillips Releases How We Win The Civil War
It appears as if the 2024 presidential race is all but set as a rematch of 2020...but even though Donald Trump has pleaded guilty to a total of 91 felony charges across both state and federal charges…his grip on the Republican party has never been stronger. In the new edition of HOW WE WIN THE CIVIL WAR, author and political thought leader Steve Phillips discusses The New American Majority – which consists of people of color plus progressive whites….a sum of people who want to see this nation become a multiracial democracy. Phillips believes that with The New American Majority – Democrats could and should keep the White House, flip the House, and hold the Senate….thereby defending the multiracial democracy from attacks by modern-day Confederates. Phillips also analyzes what happened in the 2022 midterm elections – including why there was no Red Wave and what happened in Georgia (e.g. why Stacey Abrams lost but Rev. Raphael Warnock won).Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

NY Times Best Selling Author James Swanson Releases The Deerfield Massacre
In the tradition of the New York Times bestseller Empire of the Summer Moon comes a spellbinding account of a forgotten chapter in American history: the deadly confrontation between Native Americans and colonists in Massachusetts in 1704 and the tragic saga that unfolded, written by acclaimed historian James Swanson.Once it was one of the most famous events in early American history. Today, it has been nearly forgotten. In an obscure, two-hundred-year-old museum in a little village in western Massachusetts, there lies what once was the most revered but now totally forgotten relic from the history of early New England—the massive, tomahawk-scarred door that came to symbolize the notorious Deerfield Massacre. This impregnable barricade—known to early Americans as “The Old Indian Door”—constructed from double-thick planks of Massachusetts oak and studded with hand-wrought iron nails to repel the flailing tomahawk blades of several attacking native tribes, is the sole surviving artifact from the most dramatic moment in colonial American history: Leap Year, February 29, 1704, a cold, snowy night when hundreds of native Americans and their French allies swept down upon an isolated frontier outpost and ruthlessly slaughtered its inhabitants. The sacking of Deerfield led to one of the greatest sagas of adventure, survival, sacrifice, family, honor, and faith ever told in North America. 112 survivors, including their fearless minister, the Reverand John Williams, were captured and led on a 300-mile forced march north, into enemy territory in Canada. Any captive who faltered or became too weak to continue the journey—including Williams’s own wife and one of his children—fell under the knife or tomahawk.Survivors of the march willed themselves to live and endured captivity. Ransomed by the King of England’s royal governor of Massachusetts, the captives later returned home to Deerfield, rebuilt their town and, for the rest of their lives, told the incredible tale. The memoir of Rev. Williams, The Redeemed Captive, became the first bestselling book in American history and published a few years after his liberation, it remains a literary classic. The old Indian door is a touchstone that conjures up one of the most dramatic and inspiring stories of colonial America—and now, finally, this legendary event is brought to vivid life by popular historian James Swanson.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
