The Daily Mess Taking Time Off For The Holiday And Who Do We Believe

The Daily Mess Taking Time Off For The Holiday And Who Do We Believe

Actor Mark Harmon Of NCIS And Technical Advisor Leon Carroll Jr Release Ghosts Of Panama

Actor Mark Harmon Of NCIS And Technical Advisor Leon Carroll Jr Release Ghosts Of Panama

Bestselling Authors Mark Harmon and Leon Carroll, Jr. Return to Release Ghosts of Panama from Harper Select on November 19, 2024 After the success of their first book, Ghosts of Honolulu, the NCIS team reunite to tell the gripping story of Naval Investigative Service agents working the most dangerous beat in the world - the narco-state of Panama in the late 1980s. Harper Select will publish the next installment from Mark Harmon and Leon Carroll, Jr., Ghosts of Panama: A Strongman Out of Control, A Murdered Marine, and the Special Agents Caught in the Middle of an Invasion, on November 19, 2024. Panama, 1989. The once warm relationship between United States and Gen. Manuel Noriega has eroded dangerously. Newly elected President George H.W. Bush has declared the strongman a drug trafficker and a rigger of elections. Intimidation on the streets is a daily reality for U.S. personnel and their families. The nation is a powder keg. Naval Investigative Service (NIS) Special Agent Rick Yell has worked the job in Panama since 1986, and lives there with his wife Annya and infant child. Like most NIS agents, he's a civilian with no military rank with a specialty in working criminal cases. The dynamic changes suddenly when Yell inadvertently develops an intelligence source with unparalleled access to the Noriega regime. Now the agent is thrust into a world of spy-versus-spy, of secret meetings and hidden documents. Yell's source - known as "The Old Man" - warns when Cuban military personnel arrive and identifies anti-American officers within the Panamanian Defense Forces, and helps track Noriega's movements, agitating for the dictator's kidnapping. The reports created by Yell and his NIS colleagues shape the decisions made in Washington D.C., CIA headquarters in Langley and the innermost sanctums of Pentagon. The powder keg is lit on December 16, 1989, when a young U.S. Marine is gunned down at a checkpoint in Panama City. Yell and his cadre of trusted agents deploy immediately to investigate the killing, and what they determine will decide the fate of two nations. When President Bush hears the details they uncover, he orders an invasion that puts Yell's family, informants and fellow agents directly in harm's way. Using a blend of research and interviews with the NIS agents who were directly involved, Ghosts of Panama reveals the untold, clandestine story of counterintelligence professionals placed in a pressure cooker assignment of historic proportions. You can pre-order today at: https://www.harpercollinsfocus.com/harper-horizon/ghosts-panama/  Harmon and Carroll's first book together, Ghosts of Honolulu: A Japanese Spy, A Japanese American Spy Hunter, and the Untold Story of Pearl Harbor, follows a U.S. naval counterintelligence officer working to safeguard Pearl Harbor and a Japanese spy ordered to Hawaii to gather information on the American fleet. On December 7, 1941, their hidden stories are exposed by a morning of bloodshed that will change the world forever. After a successful release, spending multiple weeks on The New York Times' Best Seller List, Ghosts of Honolulu is now available in paperback. The book was chosen as a Barnes & Noble Book Pick for September 2024.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The Making Of A Greater Classic Clay Aiken's New Album Christmas Bells Are Ringing

The Making Of A Greater Classic Clay Aiken's New Album Christmas Bells Are Ringing

Multi-platinum recording artist Clay Aiken is back with a stunning new version of the Bing Crosby classic "Do You Hear What I Hear?," the first single from his highly anticipated Christmas album Christmas Bells are Ringing, set to be released on November 22nd. Aiken's unique interpretation infuses the classic carol with his signature vocal warmth and emotional depth making it a song for our times. Written in 1962 by Noël Regney and Gloria Shayne as a plea for peace during the Cuban Missile Crisis, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" is timeless in its message, yet even more resonant today. Aiken reflects, "The whole American political climate over the past few years hasn't really given us much in the way of hope or optimism. As much as I wanted to believe I might be able to make some positive change in that world, I've realized that music often does a better job of that." Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Ron Fair, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" is the first release from Aiken's first studio album in over a decade, following a hiatus from music which found Aiken running for Congressional office in North Carolina, and raising his now teenage son. The album, Christmas Bells are Ringing, marks a return to the holiday music that solidified Aiken's place as a household name in 2004, when his debut holiday album Merry Christmas With Love broke records, selling nearly 300,000 copies in its first week. That album went platinum, becoming the best-selling holiday album of 2004 and earning Aiken three Billboard Music Awards. The new record boasts fresh takes on holiday staples like Nat King Cole's "Caroling, Caroling" and Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime", as well as a lush reinvention of "Merry Christmas, Darling" by the Carpenters (one of Clay's musical inspirations) and a show-stopping rendition of "Pure Imagination" which reimagines the Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory classic as a fitting soundtrack for the holiday season. Clay Aiken's rise to stardom began in 2003 as the runner-up on season two of American Idol. His debut single, "This Is the Night" debuted at #1 on Billboard's Hot 100, while his debut album Measure of a Man was certified triple platinum. Aiken has since sold millions of albums, launched national tours, starred on Broadway, and made his mark as a philanthropist and politician.Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Merry Christmas With Love, Clay Aiken's new album, Christmas Bells are Ringing' promises to bring the same joy and spirit to listeners, making it the perfect soundtrack for the 2024 holiday season.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Hollywood Historian Tripp Whetsell Releases Norman Lear His Life And Times

Hollywood Historian Tripp Whetsell Releases Norman Lear His Life And Times

Norman Lear: His Life & Times, the first comprehensive biography of the eponymous TV pioneer by show business historian, entertainment journalist and author Tripp Whetsell, will be released by Applause Books on November 11th. Hailed by Publisher's Weekly as a "fitting tribute to a consequential figure in television history," it is the first in-depth biography of the iconic writer, producer and social activist, who beginning in the early 1970s, forever altered America's television landscape with such groundbreaking situation comedies as All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. While much has been written about Lear, Whetsell demonstrates there is still a lot more to be learned about "the man in the white hat," who was arguably the first behind-the-scenes television figure to become a bona fide celebrity in his own right, whose multi-award-winning taboo-busting sitcoms averaged as many as 120 million viewers a week during their peak.Whetsell currently teaches the only college-level course about Lear and his classic sitcoms at their alma mater, Boston's Emerson College, in which Lear appeared as a guest via Zoom twice. He was also the only journalist to interview Lear exclusively for a 40th anniversary retrospective of All in the Family for TV Guide in 2001.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

15 Year Old Sydney Sterlace Sings In Front Of The World On Season 26 Of NBC's The Voice

Although Sydney is the only musical one in her family, she has always had their full support throughout her journey. It began with competing in local talent shows when she was 7 and by the time she was 10, she had already struck gold by winning first place in the Erie County Fair Talent Competition. She has since kept that momentum, singing the national anthem at a Buffalo Sabres game this year and multiple Buffalo Bisons games. She has also been a regular performer at a local music arts festival organized by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls. Her dedicated mom has played a crucial role in Sydney's success, including scouting singing opportunities on social media to finding local competitions for Sydney to compete. Sydney recently won a TikTok challenge promoted by Broadway Evolved. Unsure if the competition was real and never dreaming it would lead to anything, Sydney was blown away when she won. She was flown out to New York on an all-expenses-paid trip for a weeklong Broadway intensive with Betsy Wolfe, an experience she will never forget.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Music Historian Peter Ames Carlin Unveils The Electrifying Culture Created By The Group REM

Music Historian Peter Ames Carlin Unveils The Electrifying Culture Created By The Group REM

An electrifying cultural biography of the greatest and last American rock band of the millennium, whose music ignited a generation-and reasserted the power of rock and rollIn the spring of 1980, an unexpected group of musical eccentrics came together to play their very first performance at a college party in Athens, Georgia. Within a few short years, they had taken over the world - with smash records like Out of Time, Automatic for the People, Monster and Green. Raw, outrageous, and expressive, R.E.M.'s distinctive musical flair was unmatched, and a string of mega-successes solidified them as generational spokesmen. In the tumultuous transition between the wide-open 80s and the anxiety of the early 90s, R.E.M. challenged the corporate and social order, chasing a vision and cultivating a magnetic, transgressive sound. In this rich, intimate biography, critically acclaimed author Peter Ames Carlin looks beyond the sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll to open a window into the fascinating lives of four college friends - Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry - who stuck together at any cost, until the end. Deeply descriptive and remarkably poetic, steeped in 80s and 90s nostalgia, The Name of This Band is R.E.M. paints a cultural history of the commercial peak and near-total collapse of a great music era, and the story of the generation that came of age at the apotheosis of rock. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Her teen father was tragically killed in a car crash just before Christina was born, and when she was only 1, her mother also lost her life in a fatal car accident. Christina was raised by her mother's parents, whom she calls "mom and dad," making her siblings her uncles. Since Christina was so young when she lost her parents, she has no memory of them and couldn't have asked for better parents to raise her. Although processing the grief of losing her parents before she knew them has been challenging, expressing her feelings through music has helped her find solace. Now, Christina spends two to three days a week honing her skills by gigging at local bars in her small town with her older brother, Daniel. While their musical aspirations differ, they both enjoy performing together as a duo.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Atlanta's Music Scene Unveils Its Next Generation Mikaela Ayira From Season 26 Of NBC's The Voice

Mikaela has already accomplished so much inside and out of the classroom at just 16 years old. Mikaela founded a program in her school called Harmonic Healers, a music therapy program aimed to help kids with special needs. On the weekends, she often performs as a princess for birthday parties where she gets to use her musical gift to entertain little kids. Despite her busy schedule, she always makes time for her favorite thing to do: writing songs. She wrote her very first song, "Smoothie," at age 8. Performing around town for various events is also a passion for Mikaela, but one of the most incredible things she's done thus far is singing the national anthem for the Atlanta Dream. Mikaela wouldn't be able to do this without the support of her loving family, especially her mother. Mikaela's mom has never misses Mikaela's performances and is excited to cheer her on on "The Voice."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
