Award Winning Novelist And Screenwriter Norman Ohler Releases Tripped
In TRIPPED: Nazi Germany, the CIA, and the Dawn of the Psychedelic Age (Mariner Books; on sale April 9), Norman Ohler, New York Times bestselling author of Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich, returns with a provocative new history of drugs and postwar America, exposing the hidden connections between the Nazis and the early days of drugs in the United States. Based on extensive archival research on both sides of the Atlantic, TRIPPED examines how fascist experiments into psychedelics covertly influenced CIA research and secretly shaped America's War on Drugs. As Ohler reveals, "When most people think of LSD, they don't think of the Nazis, and yet that unseen hand played a role in framing our laws around this class of drug and in limiting our ability to use psychedelics for medical research." In fact, Ohler was inspired to explore this topic as a result of his own mother's medical condition. His father wanted to know why he couldn't just get LSD at the pharmacy for his wife if it was supposed to help treat her Alzheimer's disease. It was this question-why can't patients in need of psychedelic therapy access it?-that launched Ohler on his investigation for TRIPPED. Unlike cannabis which is on the precipice of global legalization, psychedelic substances containing promising healing potential are still bound up with taboos. With TRIPPED, Ohler aims to alleviate the fear and disinformation around these drugs by educating readers on the untold story behind them.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Once In A Life Time Adventure Tom Garvey Releases The Secret Apartment
he Secret Apartment is the story of a Vietnam vet who claims to have lived in Veterans Stadium for years. In Philadelphia lore, few bygone structures loom larger than Veterans Stadium, where the Phillies won the 1980 World Series with Tug McGraw at the mound and an Eagles court was created to deal out swift justice to drunk fans. Some called the multipurpose stadium and its AstroTurf field an embarrassment to the city of Philadelphia. Others called it a part of their lives. Tom Garvey just called it home. In his book, The Secret Apartment: Vet Stadium, a surreal memoir, Garvey details how from 1979 to 1981 he lived in an empty concession stand inside the Vet which he secretly refurbished into an apartment in his very own "off-the-wall South Philly version of the Phantom of the Opera."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Three Time Oscar Winning Film Maker Mark J Harris Releases His Short Stories Called Misfits
“Several of the stories in misfits speak to the complexities of living in today’s rapidly changing, multi-cultural, urban world of Los Angeles,” says Harris, “which I see as the Ellis Island of the 21st century. They portray through confrontations between young and old, the privileged and marginalized, and people of different cultures.”Publishers Weekly BookLife says it best about this book: “This bracing, incisive collection of 12 short stories immerses readers in the lives of characters who, as the title suggests, find themselves disconnected from the world and people around them while facing personal struggles and disappointments-plus social workers, security guards, awkward tennis partners, and more. Each entry delves into the sharply delineated life of a character trying to navigate an existence that's not working out how they expected, like the former stunt performer who now sells insurance, or the street-reporting journalist facing the death of great weekly papers, as Harris, a documentary filmmaker (Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport) and author, finds fresh, pained perspectives on feelings of being alienated or left behind.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Research Is His Game Brad Balukjian Releases The 6 Pack On The Open Road In Search Of Wrestlemania
From the bestselling author of The Wax Pack, comes another eye‑opening road trip adventure into a pocket of iconic pop culture-professional wrestling-starring the Iron Sheik, Hulk Hogan, Tito Santana, and many more larger‑than‑life characters of the WWF of the 1980s. In 2005, Brad Balukjian left his position as a magazine fact-checker to pursue a dream job: partner with his childhood hero, The Iron Sheik (whose real name was Khosrow Vaziri), to write his biography. Things quickly went south, culminating in the Sheik threatening Balukjian's life. Now seventeen years later, Balukjian returns to the road in search of not only a reunion with the Sheik, but something much bigger: truth in a world built on illusion. Balukjian seeks out six of the Sheik's contemporaries, fellow witnesses to the World Wrestling Federation's (WWF) explosion in the mid-'80s, to unearth their true identities. As Balukjian drives 12,525 miles around the country, we revisit the heady days when these avatars of strength, villainy, and heroism first found fame and see where their journeys took them. From working out with Tony Atlas (Tony White) to visiting Hulk Hogan's (Terry Bollea) karaoke bar, we see where these men are now and how they have navigated the cliffs of fame. The Six Pack combines the spirit of a fan with the rigor of an investigative reporter, tracking down former WWF employees, childhood friends, and mutually curious archivists. Wrestling is perceived as a subculture without a cultural home, somewhere between sport and theater-often dismissed as silly and low‑brow. But what makes this book so compelling is the humanity beneath each wrestler. The Iron Sheik, Hulk Hogan, and the rest of the cast were not characters in a comic book movie. They were real people, with families and feelings and bodies that could break. Most of them did, in fact, break; some have been repaired, but none of them will ever be the same.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The First Female Dr Who Jodie Whitaker Now Stars In Time On Britbox
After making history as the official first female Doctor Who for three seasons, Jodie Whittaker now stars in the BBC's 3-part women's prison drama "TIME" on BritBox."TIME" began as an award-winning, ratings blockbuster series set in a men's prison and distinguished by Sean Bean's tour de force lead performance."The wonderful thing about this 'TIME,'" Whittaker, 41, said in a Zoom interview from London, "is that it's got the same creative team behind it. So everyone knows the quality. But as far as a standalone, it's a completely individual piece. You don't need to have seen one to have seen the other. "But also it is fascinating to see how different in the UK the prison system is for male prisoners and female prisoners. They're completely different because the systems are different. And also the storylines." This "TIME" rather than showcasing one prisoner intertwines the storylines of three: Whittaker's Orla O'Riordan, a single mother, Abi (Tamara Lawrance), who is in for life and Kelsey (Bella Ramsey), pregnant, a heroin addict and repeat offender. Dr B Hibbs With Research And Advice For Parents With Adult Children Still Living At Home
Parenting advice is plentiful for parents with babies, school-age children, and teens. Once kids leave the nest, it’s largely accepted that parents step back as their young adults forge into adulthood. Today’s generational baton pass takes longer than it used to, however. Empty nests are open nests where adult children come and go. On the very cusp of young adulthood, and arguably the most decision-laden decade of a person’s life, the roster of expert advice to parents evaporates, leaving parents wondering how best to support the needs of their twentysomethings. In You’re Not Done Yet: Parenting Young Adults in an Age of Uncertainty adolescent and young adult mental health experts B. Janet Hibbs, M.F.T., Ph.D. and Anthony Rostain, M.D., M.A. fill this guidance gap by providing a clear-eyed, optimistic guide for parents with adult children who need help navigating the many challenges to launching an independent life—and who may be pleasantly surprised or mildly alarmed at this unexpected extension of parenting. The five markers of adulthood—completing education, obtaining a job and settling into a career, living independently, finding a partner, and becoming a parent—were defined by sociologists in the 1950s. Despite social and economic conditions changing drastically between then and now, twentysomethings are still judged on their success (or failure) in checking these off by the time they reach their 30s. Hibbs and Rostain argue these markers are long past their expiration date. They explain the cultural shifts and unprecedented societal forces that parents and young adults face today in order to help them embrace a new normal. WWE Superstar Becky Lynch Release The Man Not Your Average Average Girl
This compelling and deeply personal memoir from WWE superstar Rebecca Quin-a.k.a. The Man, a.k.a. Becky Lynch-delves into her earliest wrestling days, her scrappy beginnings, and her meteoric rise to fame. By age seven, Rebecca Quin, now known in the ring as Becky Lynch, was already defying what the world expected of her. Raised in Dublin, Ireland in a devoutly Catholic family, Rebecca constantly invented new ways to make her mother worry-roughhousing with the neighborhood kids, hosting secret parties while her parents were away, enrolling in a warehouse wrestling school, nearly breaking her neck and almost kneecapping a WWE star before her own wrestling career even began-and she was always in search of a thrilling escape from the ordinary. Rebecca's deep love of wrestling as a child set her on an unlikely path. With few female wrestlers to look to for guidance, Rebecca pursued a wrestling career hoping to change the culture and move away from the antiquated disrespect so often directed at the elite female athletes that grace the ring. Even as a teenager, she knew that she would stop at nothing to earn a space among the greatest wrestlers of our time, and to pave a new path for female fighters. Culled from decades of journal entries, Rebecca's memoir offers a raw, personal, and honest depiction of the complex woman behind the character Rebecca Quin plays on TV.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
