This is our 4th week discussing chapters 39-51 in SJM's A Court of Mist and Fury. In this weeks episode, the inner circle finally meet the human queens, who need some proof of their good intentions before they hand off their half of the book of breathings. Feyre and Rhys put on a little show for the Court of Nightmares and Mor's dad gets what's coming to him. Feyre runs into Lucien and shows him just how far she's come, and she makes a decision about where her relationship with Rhys is going, which leads to some spicy activities in a tiny inn. Finally, Rhys is injured and Feyre moves heaven and earth to get him back, which leads her to a revelation that we all saw coming - well, except for Feyre. 

This episode is all about week 3 of A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas. We discuss chapters 24-38. This week is all about the heist! First, Feyre and the inner circle organize their plans at Nesta and Elain's manor. The attor swoops in but Rhys saves Feyre just in the nick of time. Feyre learns to love Velaris and realizes she can't go back to Tamlin. She also realizes how fun it is to flirt with Rhys! We get some bonding moments between her and Cassian, Mor and Amren and then they gear up to steal half of the book they need from the Summer Court. There's a daring escape, help from some old friends, and some pretty serious gemstones in play. Finally, we get an imaginary glimpse into a....lingerie store?

This is the 2nd week of SJM's A Court of Mist and Fury. This week we are tackling Chapters 14-23. In this week's episode, we meet Rhys' inner circle and hear all about how they came to be friends with the most powerful high lord in history. We get a tense but funny dinner, a terrifying trip into a mountain prison to meet a small child who carves people's death in bones (and who just happens to be a bit of a gossip). We also get a terrifying heist into some crazy lady's home to steal back a ring. In between all of these adventures, Feyre contemplates her relationship with Tamlin, explores Velaris and has quite a bit of fun flirting with the High Lord of the Night Court. Lastly, Feyre visits the human lands to see her sisters and ask them a really important question. But what is it?

It's the first week of December! We are discussing chapters 1 to 13 of one of our favourite books: A Court of Mist and Fury! This week we catch back up with Feyre and Tamlin. We get a look behind the scenes of happily ever after, there's ceremonies to go to, people to entertain and a wedding to plan. Is Feyre really the princess of this story, does she deserve a fairytale ending or will the villain come and whisk her away? Yes, yes he will and we wont be mad at it!

This is our last week talking all things Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, chapters 30 to the end. This week sees us jumping POVs between all of our crows. Jesper and Wylan act like 007 and rappel from a building, take out some guards, disable a gate, cut through glass with a diamond and steal a tank! Inej finally gets some revenge on Tante Heleen and makes a death-defying leap out a window. Nina comes face to face with a ghost and finds the person she's come to rescue and we finally figure out just how trustworthy Matthias is. Finally, Kaz figures out how he feels and asks a serious question of Inej. Will our crows come out victorious? Will they get their happy endings?? Who knows!!

In this episode of Six of Crows, by Leigh Bardugo we discuss chapters 20-29 - the heist begins! Our group of 6 put their plans into motion in the country of Fjerda. They stow away on a prison wagon (liberating six unknowing prisoners), get locked in jail, have to prove their toughness with the other prisoners, and make a pee bomb! Inej makes a hot and dangerous climb while Kaz looks for his sworn enemy in the prison tower. We hear more on what happened with him and Jordie and we also see Nina discover something terrifying which causes their plan to go awry, causing a replan on the roof.

This is week 2 talking all things Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, specifically focused on chapters 8-19. This week, our intrepid 6 plan their heist and make their way to the land of Fjerda. First, they get ambushed in the harbour on their way to the boat, Inej and Jesper get hurt in their pursuit to save the mission, and when Kaz finds who stabbed Inej, he takes matters into his own hands. We get some backstory on Kaz, Inej, Jesper and Nina - but Wylan's history still remains a mystery. When our group lands - they trek over the unforgiving snow filled Fjerda as they discuss their plan. They reach some unfortunate Grisha who have been put to death, which really affects Nina and causes her to make a decision about the upcoming mission!

This is our first week back in the Grishaverse where we are talking all things Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. This week we discuss chapters 1 to 7. We start perplexed by our opening scene, but eventually we meet our 6 intrepid explorers! We see Kaz deal with some rival mobsters, Inej display her master wraith skills, and Jesper shows us his gambling nature. We meet Nina, a Grisha obsessed with saving a Drüskelle named Matthias - and with Kaz's help, succeeds, while Matthias just wants Nina dead. Our 6 is rounded out with Wylan, the estranged son of the person willing to pay our crew 30 million Kruge for the safe return of a scientist from the Ice Court, a suicide mission if they've ever heard one. But how will they get along? And is their mission really impossible?

This is our last week talking about the spooky romance The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. This week we discuss chapters 26 to 35. Rhys gets an unexpected visitor, and there are more sexy times with him and Vivi. We get the real history of Graves Glen from our resident 90s grunge witch ghost, and a plan forms to save Rhys and the town from the curse. We hear from another ghost and finally the women of Graves Glen take matters into their own hands and do what they have to to save everyone.

This is week 3 talking about The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. We're on chapters 18-25 this week! Vivi and Rhys go for coffee but don't have coffee, and uncover a witch dealing Viagra potions under the table until the town magic makes things go awry. We get an awesome ghost catching scene in a haunted house, and an even more awesome closet scene with Vivi and Rhys unable to keep their hands off each other. We meet a young witch prof who gives Vivi a hand with their ghost problem but she seems super suspicious. Rhys is super eager to give Vivi a taste and helps her relieve some tension...if you know what we mean. This all culminates to Rhys and Vivi finally doing the deed, and it works out well for the both of them! 

This is week 2 discussing The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. This week covers chapters 9-17. In this episode, we get a little more on the history of Vivi and Rhys' relationship, as well as a better understanding of their current feelings. We find the ley line cave in all its sexiness, and something goes terribly wrong with the magic to nobody's surprise. Cute plastic skulls come to life to chomp everyone in Something Wicked, Aunt Elaine comes to the rescue and proves she's a badass Witch. We get the creepy college library we all deserve and Rhys and Vivi share a super hot bump and grind in a private study room. We also meet Piper, a seriously pissed off grunge ghost from the 90's who hates Rhys and attacks the library. It's up to Rhys and Vivi to put that ghost back where she belongs and restore magic to the town! 

This is our first week talking about our new October book - The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling! We're starting with chapters 1-8 and we jump right into the book and meet our two main characters, Vivi and Rhys. They share a romantic past but a misunderstanding led to hearts being broken and accidental curses being made? We talk all things accents (which are hot? which are not?)  and also whether or not Rhys actually is cursed. We contemplate Vivi's actions and meet her loveable family - her cousin Gwyn and her Aunt Eileen. Essentially this book is giving us Hallmark channel Halloween movie in book form and we are here for it! We want to move there, go to Something Wicked, the spooky café, the Founders Festival and even the Solstice Revel! Rhys shows up in Graves Glen and is having a hard time there, some wonky magic and a few near death experiences aren't the norm. Did Vivi really curse Rhys?

Today's episode is sadly the last one discussing A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. We cover chapters 39 - 46 (the end). This week we see Feyre face two more of her monthly challenges. She parties (somewhat unwillingly) with Rhys and company, has an uncomfortable exchange with Lucien and she spirals a bit before Rhys snaps her out of it. Ultimately we see Feyre break apart during her last challenge as well as experience an out of body experience and the knowledge that the fate of all the Fae lies in her hands. Can she figure it out before it’s too late.

This is episode 4 of discussing Sarah J Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses specifically chapters 29 to 38. This week, Feyre and Nesta connect over common ground, and Feyre makes a discovery that leaves her reeling. We get the full story about the blight and about what Feyre could have done to stop it. We finally meet the one who strikes so much fear in everyone's hearts and she makes Feyre an interesting bargain. We also ponder what a worm with a mouth full of teeth looks like while Feyre tries to hunt it. All of this culminates in another bargain that Feyre could grow to resent!

This is a special episode of Coffee & Co-Read in which we watch the pilot episode of the newly released television show Vampire Academy which is now streaming on Peacock TV in the United States, The W Network and Prime Video in Canada! We go through all the twists and turns and shocks of this new series and figure out what's new and what's taken directly from the book. We also ooh and ahh about the music, the costumes and the actors. There will obviously be spoilers so make sure you watch first or listen to us while you watch.

This is week 3 and we're discussing Chapters 29-38 of A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. This week things (finally) get a little steamy. We see a bridge formed between Feyre and Tamlin as he sets up the gallery in the manor for her and buys her paint. We see two festivals - one hot and steamy - the other light-hearted and fun, and Feyre finally gains the true sight. We meet a mysterious dark haired beauty with untold power, who saves Feyre from a few jerks and can reach into people's minds in a scary way. Lucien smells some arousal around the breakfast table, making for an awkward meal - and a dangerous situation sends Feyre back home but not before Feyre and Tamlin finally do the deed!

This is week two discussing A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas, chapters 9 to 18. This week we see Feyre's tough exterior start to crumble as she builds relationships with both Tamlin and Lucien. We see her face down a multitude of fairies that want to eat her like the bogge, the puka, the naga and even a lonely misunderstood suriel. Feyre starts to soften towards fae in general, she saves the suriel when her life is still at risk and she holds a lesser faeries hand while he passes on. We learn more about Feyre's and Tamlin's childhoods and we hear the reason why Lucien is such a prick sometimes. We also get a sexy swim in a magic pool and Feyre admits one of her greatest weaknesses!

This is week 1 discussing A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas starting with chapter 1 to 8. This week we meet our main character Feyre and witness her struggle to survive the harshness of winter and provide for her father and two sisters. She lives in the human realm on the continent of Prythian - a continent dominated by fae and magic. She breaks a rule from the treaty between humans and faeries and is whisked into the dangerous land that is trying to kill her at every turn. She has to learn to get to know the faerie that is holding her captive and figure out a way to escape or learn to accept her new life in this strange place!

This is our last week discussing Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. We read from chapter 19 all the way to the end. In this episode, Lissa shuns Rose when she was just trying to help her out. Rose goes to the dance with Mason even though she isn't really feeling it and some secrets are revealed. Rose finally gives Mia what she deserves and winds up in big trouble. We get some steamy scenes with our favourite couple and we finally learn who's behind the animal deaths in Lissa's room. Lissa finds herself in danger and with no one to save her, she needs to save herself. We also finally get our resolution between Rose and Dimitri and a strange villain comes out of nowhere.

This is week 3 of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. We discuss chapters 13 to 18. This week - we start with a tiny rant about how high school is not necessarily the best years of your life. Lissa gets in with the royals to change their minds about Rose, but Rose is worried she's getting in a bit too far! We hear more about the events leading up to their escape two years ago and get some in depth details about how far Lissa is willing to go for the less fortunate. There's also get a fun shopping trip, and Dimitri and Rose share some romantic moments....oooooooooo. Finally, Rose is in danger and Lissa has to help her, but does it push Lissa too far?  **Heads up discussion of cutting at 1:33.40 - 1:35.00**

This is week 2 discussing Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy. This week we are talking chapters 7-12. This episode sees some more typical high school drama with Mia, and we see Rose get a little too physical with a moroi prince that leads to an awkward encounter with Dimitri. Lissa gets closer to Christian despite Rose's warnings, and someone goes a little too far to threaten Lissa with some animals. Rose double downs on her training sessions and she learns a bit more about Dimitri and develops some feelings. This is the first week of our new book - Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. We start by discussing chapters 1 - 6 where we meet our main character Rose Hathaway, a half human-half vampire guardian and her best friend Lissa Dragomir, a vampire species called a moroi. They are discovered after they've been on the run for 2 years and are brought back to St. Vladamir's Academy - a boarding school for moroi and guardians alike. After not getting expelled, Rose lays down some ground rules for their stay and they agree if they start to worry again they will leave. We join them on their return as they navigate potential dangers, forbidden attractions and what's worse, high school.

This is our last episode discussing Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, it follows chapters 43 to the end. We see Celaena get saved from the Ridderak demon’s poison, she has a moment of truth with Nehemia where Celaena gets a new name. Chaol doubts the king's report, Celanea trusts Nox with her identity and he trusts her enough to leave the castle while he still can. Dorian is really falling for Celaena, they make out a little but we don't really know how Celaena feels. We finally see the epic duels for the title of King's Champion. However, Celaena is betrayed and poisoned - how can she overcome the poison in her battle against the other contestant? With some help from some of her allies, Celaena tries to pull through, but will she succeed? This is an epic ending to the first book in a very long series. We also announce our August book of the month!

In this week's episode we're discussing chapters 32-42 of Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. This week we see more dead champions, some cute puppies and Celaena starts to become suspicious of a good friend. Nehemia experiences a tragedy while Celaena continues to be attracted to both Dorian and Chaol. Celaena gets blessed by a god after she and Chaol take a nap in the church. We question how she is expected to be a champion if no one trusts her enough to go to a party. There's a Yulemas ball, Celaena and Dorian take their relationship to another level, while Chaol looks on, yearning to be the one to make Celaena happy. Chaol seems to be unable to talk to woman and deal with feminine issues and Kaltain and the Duke come up with a dangerous plan. We also confront a mysterious and dangerous beast and Celaena gets hurt! Will she be alright? Who knows!!! 

This is week 3 of Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas and we're discussing chapters 23-31! This week we see how Celaena and crew celebrate Samhuin, she finds a secret passageway in her room! and she gets a visit from a legendary ghost with a cryptic message during a dream and almost gets attacked by something she can't see. Celaena also gets a warning about wyrdmarks from a friend who she begins to suspect as not being entirely truthful. There are more murders, more challenges, and more developing feelings between our main triangle! We finish the episode with a special challenge about poisons. Does Celaena conquer this challenge or does she accidentally take a deadly poison??

This week we are discussing chapters 11-22 of Sarah J Maas' Throne of Glass book, the first in the series of the same name. This week we get into the competition that Celaena has signed up for, there are survivoresque challenges, lots of training and murder! We also see Celaena opening up to Chaol and Prince Dorian about her past a little bit and in her head a bit more. We learn about a past lover she sorely misses: Sam, her love of music and how easily she can lose herself in it and a little bit about her horrible upbringing under Arobynn. There is also some insight into each of the main men, some jealousy between them even though they are bffs and the real groundwork for a love triangle. We read about a daring rescue and we get to see even more of Celaena's skills.

This is our first look at Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas! We dive into our main character Celaena Sardothian’s life as the most successful assassin in the country of Adarlan - she unfortunately was caught and sent to the prison camp salt mine of Endovier - but she has a chance at redemption when the Crown Prince Dorian, along with his BFF Captain of the Royal Guard Chaol Westfall, come to her with a proposition. A contest to become the King’s Champion AKA personal assassin. If she wins, she can earn her freedom, if she loses, it's certain death! We go along for the ride as Celaena enters the competition and spends her first few nights in the castle, getting to know both Dorian and Chaol. We also meet the creepy King, the dastardly Duke Perrington and the loathsome Lady Kaltain. Celaena is in for a wild ride, that's for sure and so are we!

This is our last episode discussing Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. This week we chat Chapter 24 (Settling) to the very end! We see some aco-taco interactions between Elena, Clay and Phillip, some sweet moments between Elena and Clay, and some creepy moments with Daniel and Thomas LeBlanc. We get a harrowing run, a gallant in distress and a tough choice for Elena (but is it really a choice?). We also get a risky plan by Elena that Jeremy does not agree with, and an interesting reaction from Karl Marsten. It's the end of the book so who will Elena choose? Will she go back to Phillip? Will Philip even take her back? Or will she choose to stay with Clay and the rest of the Pack?

This is our third week talking all things Bitten by Kelley Armstrong! This week we discuss chapters 15 (Stalking) - 23 (Descent). This weeks episode is action packed as we get a werewolf chase scene, a werewolf torture scene, and a werewolf murder scene. We learn all about the best way to dump werewolf bodies, and we finally meet some of the key masterminds trying to take the pack down. Everyone forgets they own a cellphone, Clay gets detained for questioning and Elena makes a mortal enemy. Elena and Clay get even closer (wink wink) we also see Elena come face to face with her mortality. We end off the episode with Jeremy's "brilliant" plan, sending Elena and Clay back to Phillip - together. What's going to happen when Phillip the boyfriend and Clay the lover finally meet?

This is the second week discussing Bitten by Kelley Armstrong, this week we read chapter 7 (Blame) to 14 (Mistrust). In this episode we discuss all the ways in which wolves are not dogs, Elena's wolf origin story, how terrible Jeremy is at breaking bad news and we get some sketchy consent sexy and non-sexy scenes. We also discuss the awkwardness of being the only female in a naked werewolf pile, Elena's acting skills and what actually happens at a rave (since we've never been!). There's a brutal chase where a shot comes out of nowhere, the first pack death, some childhood trauma, years long lack of communication and we find out some more about who's behind all the trouble. We continue to talk about the war between Elena's werewolf life and human life and we have to ask the age-old question: is there a name worse than Philip? ***Trigger Warning for dubious consent in the beginning of this episode***

This is our first episode discussing our new book for the month of June, Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. This week we are discussing the Prologue to Chapter 6 (Hunt). In this episode we learn all about the magic hiding in our normal everyday world. Specifically we see Toronto and New York, we learn about werewolves and meet our principal pup, Elena Michaels and her very human boyfriend Philip. We meet Philip's family and get a ton of backstory. We also meet the Pack, a group of werewolves that rule over all others, and surprise - Elena is an estranged but beloved member. We get into werewolf legends and politics and Elena and Clay (who is NOT her boyfriend) have to work together to catch a killer. How will we keep it all straight!

We're finishing up Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo today! We're covering chapters 18 to the End. This week we finally get a bit of spice, Mal and Alina reveal some feelings right before the stag makes its appearance. We see a difficult choice for Alina, before she offers to make a deal - which is denied. We see her inexplicably pulled towards the Darkling while at the same time being disgusted by him. We also find Mal in mortal danger. Will Alina shrug off her collar in time to save him? Yes, but he's still a douche bag and she leaves some people to die so maybe they’re good for each other? Listen until the end to find out which gem we will be reading in June!

This is our 3rd week discussing Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo and we dive into chapters 13-17. This week we talk all things Alina and Darkling (with a bit of Mal). We see Alina living her best life; making friends, finally able to control her power and developing a relationship with the Darkling! We discuss trackers, amplifiers and winter fetes, and Alina finally learns the Darkling's real plans. Mal finally steps up and makes a rescue although he and Alina still get robbed! By the end Alina and Mal are almost back to their normal friendship.

This is week 2 of discussing Shadow and Bone! We go over chapters 6-12 this week. Alina meets the king of Ravka, we get a surprisingly treasonous comment and we continue to discuss the power clap. We meet Alina's new Grisha friends, get dramatic vibes from the darkling and Alina officially starts Grisha training. We get our first look at her teachers, a tour of the Little Palace and meet the unfortunate apparate. Alina gets hurt during training and she finally discovers something about herself!

This is our first episode discussing May's book of the month - Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo! Today we dive into the Grishaverse and all that entails! We meet our two loveable orphans, get angry with their caretakers, and discuss all things shadow fold. We also talk book Mal vs. show Mal, and how much we love the Darkling! We take an adventure on a sand skiff, meet some creatures with bat wings and and watch Mal and Alina get saved by the sun. Alina is more significant than she's ever known and is transported to a whole new world.  

This is our last week discussing Sarah J. Maas' A House of Earth and Blood! In this episode we talk chapters 71-98 (the end!). We question Bryce's "smart plan", her ability to put together a riffle and her quick thinking. We are confused by Sandriel's power moves, marvel at Hypaxia and her decisions, earn not one, but two climaxes (storylines, people!) and talk about how terrible Sabine and the Autumn King are. We also find out Bryce's secret, see a tragedy for Hunt, Danika makes her last stand (even though she's dead!) and we end on an impossible ultimatum from on high.

This is our fourth episode discussing Sarah J Maas' House of Earth and Blood. This week, we dive into chapters 52-70. We get an anti-climatic confrontation with a bit of douchebaggery from Ruhn and then from Bryce. We get a for reals apology from Bryce, snakes slithering around with guns and some deep feeling conversations. Sarah J Maas throws in some breadcrumbs that we seemingly never get an answer to and Bryce needs coffee to survive just like us! We get a first night in the same bed together, the worst places to be able to have fae smelling, Hunt takes on a mean girl and Bryce finally gets her scar looked at. We finally get a real steamy scene but it ends in pain... not in a good way and then there’s the ultimate betrayal.

This is our third episode of A house of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas. We are covering chapters 33-51. This week we discuss a lot of sexual innuendos - including shooting things in holes, neck nuzzling turn ons and the real meaning of "seeing stars"! There's some talk of hat rules, dating history, some chemistry for Ruhn and some cute otters. We also get a murder suspect, talk about demon toes and why werewolves are so mean! 

This is our second episode discussing Sarah J Maas' House of Earth and Blood. This week we are diving into chapters 15-32! We talk about what house we would be in (and no, this isn't Harry Potter), Hunt's side gig as a peeping tom/stalker, Bryce's antagonistic ways, secret libraries, Jesiba's reputation and if it's earned. We visit the meat market and discuss the different purchases you could make, Bryce's declining mental health, the demon that looks like a maggot with arms, pure blood supremacy and how legit an angel has to be to get into a club these days? Bryce gets a new roommate, trades favours with Ruhn, plays an airhead and refuses a supper date. We also debate safety options as an angel’s passenger.

This is our first episode of April's book, House of Earth and Blood from the Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas. We dive into chapters 1-14 and talk all things Crescent City! We meet our main characters, Bryce and Hunt, question how much we are willing to put up with for a bottle of wine, are touched by tragedy, perplexed by how many drugs magical creatures take, concerned for Bryce's well being wearing stiletto heels and in general. We get some history on a past rebellion, a little of Hunts backstory and finally we are outraged by the opinion of a fictional character. There are no CC2 - House of Breath and Sky spoilers this month since we’re still working on the book ourselves!

In this episode, we discuss the end of the first book in the All Souls Series - A Discovery of Witches from Chapter 34 onward. In this section, Diana gets a message from her dead mother, gets faint at the thought of becoming a mother, Matthew gets stalked by an ex, the house just wants everyone to get along, and Diana just wants to consummate her marriage already! Oh, and Matthew almost dies, then he almost (accidentally) kills Diana. We end with them going back in time.

In this episode, we discuss Chapters 24-33 of the first book in the All Souls Series - A Discovery of Witches. In this section, Diana watches not one but two vampires feed, ends up magically married and sees a glorious d. She then gets savagely whisked away, takes a beating, sees some ghosts but luckily Matthew (and Baldwin) are there to save the day! Diana and Matthew go to stay in her fun childhood home and set off some magical fireworks.

In this episode, we discuss Chapters 12-23 of the first book in the All Souls Series - A Discovery of Witches. As the title says we spend a fair amount of time talking tropes on tropes on tropes. We also discuss vampire eating and drinking habits (mostly the wine tbh), Diana’s love of naps and Matthew’s terrible decision-making when he’s angry. Sorry for the sound quality this week!
