Wine Soundtrack, one of Italy’s leading podcasts about wine, is the voice of the Italian wine growers and winemakers. Wine Soundtrack was launched in Italy in May 2017 and is now launching in the U.S. In each podcast, wine producers share the story of who they are and their winery through a series of 30 questions. Wine Soundtrack was created to bring to life an idea of sharing and insight; it allows wine lovers to listen to the hopes, dreams, intuitions, prospects, loves and passions of the protagonists of the wine world, directly from their own voices. Wine Soundtrack will make you smile and amuse you through the voices of those who have decided to express their own character, their own dreams and their own ambitions in each bottle of wine. Wine Soundtrack will lead us through the vineyards of ideas and of visionary thinking and will share the passion of these producers. Follow us on our web site www.winesoundtrack.com

Metrick Wine - Alex Russan

Metrick Wine - Alex Russan

Metrick wines is my personal laboratory for exploring wine. I import small production Spanish wines and have a label of sherries called Alexander Jules, and working with producers 5000 miles away, needed an outlet for exploration closer to home, thus created Metrick. The collection is from cool climate vineyards, where I feel the grapes are well suited to their sites to produce elegant, aromatically complex, food friendly wines.Metrick is technically my name, DBA Alexander Jules, and Metrick is a brand I own, but, for the podcast, perhaps just refer to me as Metrick? Not sure what this form goes toward, but sure you’ll know what makes the most sense to do.

Castello di Amorosa - Peter Velleno

Castello di Amorosa - Peter Velleno

Peter Velleno studied winemaking, brewing science, microbiology, and food engineering at the University of California at Davis. In 2003, he was the only student to graduate with a bachelor's degree in fermentation science. After graduation, he went to work in the laboratory at William Hill Winery, where he quickly worked his way up to assistant winemaker specializing in Chardonnay production. Peter went on to work for the ultra-premium small winery Hartwell Vineyards, where he helped craft some of the most highly regarded Cabernets in the Napa Valley.Peter’s career path took a sharp turn in 2008 when he joined Castello di Amorosa as the associate winemaker. He was promoted to winemaker in 2014 and manages production of the Castello’s wines. If asked, he will tell you that making wine in a Castle is even more fun than it sounds.Peter and his wife Lauren have lived in Napa since 2003. They have two children and enjoy playing tennis, biking, cooking, and spending time outdoors with their dog Nora.Castello di Amorosa produces classically structured Italian-style wines that reflect California's unique climate, soil, and growing conditions. Our philosophy is to make elegant, intensely flavored, and well-balanced wines that showcase the "terroir" of each unique vineyard site. In this way, we can experience the flavor and aromas of the vineyard itself. We are committed to using traditional approaches to the craft of winegrowing and winemaking, but also incorporate modern techniques and equipment when it improves quality

Castello di Amorosa and V Sattui - Dario Sattui

Castello di Amorosa and V Sattui - Dario Sattui

Castello di Amorosa is the realization of an all-consuming passion. Fourth generation winemaker Dario Sattui built an authentically styled 13th century Tuscan castle winery to honor his Italian heritage and deep love for medieval architecture. In my mind, everything had to be authentic, or it wouldn’t be worth the effort. Faking it in any way might be all right for others, but I would know the difference, making it a failed attempt to explore my passion for medieval architecture. You simply can’t build an ‘old structure’ using modern techniques and tools. It would look fake, and everyone would realize it’s an imitation. Rather, we were going to build the structure – within the limits of the current building code – using the same techniques medieval builders had relied on eight hundred years ago.But it all started with wine.Dario is the great grandson of pioneering vintner Vittorio Sattui, an Italian immigrant who founded St. Helena Wine Cellars in 1885. The Sattui family lived at the winery, even after Prohibition closed the business in 1920. Dario was always fascinated by the stories and photos of the old winery. As a child, he would play in the winery's underground cellars and dream of reviving the family business.Castello di Amorosa produces classically structured Italian-style wines that reflect California's unique climate, soil, and growing conditions. Our philosophy is to make elegant, intensely flavored, and well-balanced wines that showcase the "terroir" of each unique vineyard site. Julio and Amalia Palmaz have always believed that if given the proper attention and care, their land can produce excellent wine for generations. Along with their children, Florencia and Christian Gastón (and Christian’s wife, Jessica Louise), they set about creating a winery that leverages tradition and technology in the service of crafting great vintages. The result is a 600-acre estate with 64 acres of vineyards that produce truly modern vintages, thanks to the technology harnessed in support of the art of winemaking. Two generations of the Palmaz family have sought to bring innovation and invention to the ancient art of making wine. Their background in the sciences, passion for living life to the fullest and years of backbreaking work have resulted in a unique winery situated inside an 18-story cave that combines cutting-edge technology with a respect for winemaking tradition.

Sweetzer Cellars - Michael Fogelman

Sweetzer Cellars - Michael Fogelman

We started making wine in our 2nd floor, white-carpeted apartment in 2008 on Sweetzer Avenue in West Hollywood. In 2013 we became a bonded winery and moved our production to a commercial facility. We focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from the Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara County. We also search out great vineyards with other varietals, such as Grenache, Syrah, Dornfelder, and Sauvignon Blanc. We opened our tasting room in Lompoc on Bastille Day 2017.

Smith Madrone - Stu Smith

Smith Madrone - Stu Smith

Smith-Madrone is one of Napa Valley’s authentically artisanal wineries, founded in 1971 by Stuart Smith. Winemaking and grape-growing are handled entirely by the two brother-proprietors, Stuart and Charles Smith, iconoclasts known for their staunch adherence to dry farming on their mountain vineyard. Stu’s son Sam Smith is the winery’s Assistant Winemaker. All of Smith-Madrone’s wines come from the 38 acres of estate vineyards surrounding the winery, planted 48 years ago by Stuart and Charles. The vineyards extend across steep mountainsides, at elevations between 1,300 and 1,900 feet, on slopes angling up to 34% at the top of the Spring Mountain District appellation in the Napa Valley. Total production each year is less than 4,000 cases.

Monochrome Wines - David McGee

Monochrome Wines - David McGee

For a winery focused exclusively on white wines, the name monochrome (“one color”) seemed like a natural fit. However, the name also suggests a photographic analogy. Many people think of black-and-white (monochrome) photos as being less interesting than color, yet most fine art photographs are in black-and-white. If you ask photographers, most will tell you that shooting in black-and-white is more challenging than shooting in color since you don’t have color to distract from any shortcomings in composition, subject matter, or tonality. You need to get all the fundamentals just right for the photo to work. Similarly, most winemakers will tell you that making complex white wines is more challenging than making complex reds, as you can’t rely on tannin, oak, and extraction to build complexity or mask any shortcomings in the fruit and wine.

Inman Family Wines - Kathleen Inman

Inman Family Wines - Kathleen Inman

The 4 seasons, 5 elements and 6 senses of Pinot Noir. Explore the TerroirAt Inman Family Wines we practice sensitive farming and natural winemaking, growing grapes and making wine in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley. The alchemy of the elements created our beautiful and unique estate vineyard, Olivet Grange. Winemaker Kathleen Inman brings a "sixth sense" to the creation of unique blends, elegant to the palate. As a third-generation Napa Valley native, it’s no surprise that Kathleen developed an interest in wine. However, it wasn’t until she attended a wine tasting seminar as a college student at UC Santa Barbara that she took an active interest in her revered grape: Pinot Noir. When she returned home to Napa in the summer before her junior year, she took a job at Napa Creek Winery, which was a small startup winery on the Silverado Trail. At Napa Creek Winery, she had the opportunity to lead tours and perform various tasks in the cellar. This video shows that her love of gardening began at an early age when she helped her father in their home garden and her grandmother in her garden and orchard.

Zenith Vineyard - Tim and Kari Ramey

Zenith Vineyard - Tim and Kari Ramey

Sustainability speaks to the vision we have of our job as winegrowers. The fruit for outstanding wines can only come from beautiful origins. It is our commitment to respect the land, the vineyard, and the wines that come from our site as things of great beauty, to be carefully and lovingly tended. Zenith Vineyard's soil structure is comprised of sedimentary soils from the Missoula floods 14,000 years ago, laid down on a bed of ancient sea floor that is hundreds of feet thick. The soils generally fall into the silty-clay category. We farm 83 acres of vines – 65 acres of Pinot Noir; 7 acres of Pinot Gris; 3 acres of Chardonnay; 3 acres of Tempranillo; 3 acres of Auxerrois and one acre of Pinot Blanc. We harvested 268 tons in 2018 and crush for our own label as well as sell fruit to 24 other wineries, ten of which make Zenith Vineyard designated wines. Our vineyard is certified sustainable by LIVE and has been for over 10 years.

Laurel Glen Vineyard - Bettina Sichel

Laurel Glen Vineyard - Bettina Sichel

Laurel Glen Vineyard is a 14-acre estate, first planted in 1968, located on the north end of Sonoma Mountain, the peak that sits between Sonoma Valley and the Sonoma coastal plain, just south of Santa Rosa, California. The vineyard blocks face east, but lie above the fog line, allowing diffused sun exposure throughout the day and a long, moderate growing season. The vineyard is farmed organically and planted entirely to the Laurel Glen clone of Cabernet Sauvignon, certified as a unique clone by the University of California at Davis.Debuting with the 1981 vintage, Laurel Glen Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon soon made an impression upon trade and consumers alike, with its consistent depth, elegance and focus. The 1980’s saw Sonoma and Napa establish their reputations for quality wine making. Winemakers such as Richard Arrowood, David Ramey, Robert Mondavi, Paul Draper, Zelma Long, among many others, were changing how critics thought of American wines and the drinking preferences of consumers. By the end of the 1980s, Laurel Glen Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon joined the ranks of first generation “cult” Cabernets from California. After 30 vintages, founder Patrick Campbell sold the vineyard and winery to a group of wine lovers, led by Bettina Sichel, whose family has been in the wine business for so many generations, she jokes, if you cut her, she bleeds wine. The new era at Laurel Glen Vineyard begins with an ambitious new team. Organic viticultural guru Phil Coturri, who grew up on Sonoma Mountain and spent a formativesummer in his youth working for Patrick Campbell, manages the vineyard. Randall Watkins, who spent many years developing his skills with mountain Cabernet at Moon Mountain Vineyards, manages the cellar. Under their stewardship, Laurel Glen Vineyard is being rebuilt with great care. The new team started immediately farming the vineyard organically, introducing modern trellising practices, berry sorting at harvest, and a host of other quality-¬oriented improvements. The result is already evident in the barrel, promising wines that preserve the nuanced layers of flavor of the past, while adding intensity and texture.
