Just released this month, Whistlepig collaborated with David Ortiz aka "Big Papi", one of the best power hitters of all time to come up with a very unique rye whiskey. At 100% rye and 96.56 proof the regular Piggyback Rye gives you a nice enjoyable rye punch, but thanks to David Ortiz, they decided to age the rye also with Maple baseball bats. So we were excited to grab this bottle as sub-$30 and have a barrel proof in that price point. Little did we know that we just got a great deal on it. Coming in at $55 from what we could find, this is a barrel proof bourbon on the lower end in terms of pricing. It is a very interesting bourbon, smooth for the proof, but not what one would expect from a barrel proof bourbon. Well, we have a special one for you this week. Larceny Barrel Proof bourbon is the first high proof wheated bourbon we have reviewed to date. Regretfully, we may have picked a terrible time with the Heaven Hill strike going on recently. We fully respect their decision to strike and wish the best for their workers. What?!? Whiskey Biz is doing an Irish Whiskey. We were a bit surprised by our own decision, but we had a listener request that we review this bottle. Knappogue (Nuh-Pogue) 12 Year is an Irish Whiskey aged in Bourbon Barrels that is a mellow but enjoyable sipper. It has a mild spice and sweetness that slowly grows on you and you sip it longer. With all of the hype and discussion around Yellowstone Bourbon, we figured that it was time for us to review this one as well as a special guest bourbon. The special guest is Fighting Cock bourbon and it was recommended by a listener as they felt it had similar characteristics as Yellowstone. One of the lesser known bourbons from Heaven Hill, Bluff Springs Bourbon provides a lot of bang for the buck. A nice mix of sweet and spiciness, Bluff Springs is enjoyable from start to finish. Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey brings a high level of peanut butter flavor and is really well made. Not for your daily whiskey sipper but could be good for someone who enjoys peanut butter as well as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because it mixes well.
