Today on Too Opinionated we sit down with actress/writer Liz Vassey! Liz Vassey began acting at the age of nine, performing in over fifty musicals and plays. She moved to New York at the age of sixteen to join the cast of All My Children. For her work on that show, she was nominated for her first Daytime Emmy.  Since then, Liz has appeared as a regular or recurring character on twelve television shows including ER, Maximum Bob, Necessary Roughness, Brotherly Love, Push Nevada, Two and a Half Men, FOX's live action version of The Tick, and, most recently, Season Two of The Tick reboot on Amazon. But she is probably best known for her five year run on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as DNA technician "Wendy Simms." Liz has also guest starred on many TV shows, starred in many pilots, and appeared in several films. In addition to acting, Liz is an accomplished writer. She co-wrote an episode of CSI during her last season, and has since sold six television pilots and a TV movie, developing for such networks and studios as NBC, Freeform, Universal, Netflix, and CW. An avid runner, Liz recently made her directorial debut with the newly released documentary feature, The Human Race, which focuses on runners over the age of fifty. Natalie Moon is thrilled to be able to share her guest star role this season as Lex Luthor’s ex-wife, the iconic DC comic book character Erica Del Portenza, on The CW hit series Superman and Lois. The episode Break the Cycle aired on October 28, 2024. Now that it has been released, Natalie is excited to share her experience in this unforgettable role alongside Michael Cudlitz, who plays Lex Luthor in the series. The director of this episode is Elizabeth Henstridge, who also plays her grown-up daughter in the episode. Andrea Thompson began her career as a voiceover artist, which continues today. Her first significant film role was in the 1987 film Wall Street. In 1989, she was cast on the soap opera Falcon Crest as the scheming Genele Ericson during the show's final season, and played photojournalist Maggie Dawson in the Season 3, Episode 2 of the series Quantum Leap. In 1991, she played Nurse Helen Caldwell in the comedy film Delirious. In 1993 she was cast on the series Babylon 5 as telepath Talia Winters. Thompson left the series in the middle of its second season. Thompson moved on to join the cast of JAG midseason as Commander Alison Krennick, an aide to the Judge Advocate General of the Navy and direct supervisor of Harmon Rabb. She was among several actors who left the show when it was canceled by NBC after one season before CBS picked it up. She then went on to play Detective Jill Kirkendall on four seasons of crime drama NYPD Blue, leaving in April 2000 to pursue a career in journalism. Thompson joined CNN Headline News as an evening anchor in June 2001.  Thompson had a recurring guest role as Doctor Nicole Duncan on the third season of the television series 24, first appearing on that show in November 2003. Milcania Diaz-Rojas is a rising Dominican- Canadian actor and writer to watch based in Toronto. Milcania secured her debut role in the HBO feature SHARE, a film about a sixteen-year-old girl grappling with the aftermath of a troubling video from a night she can't remember. Since then, she has starred in several notable film and television productions, including HOMEKILLING QUEEN (Lifetime), THE BOLD TYPE (Freeform), and SLIP (Roku). Looking ahead, Milcania will star in the highly anticipated post-apocalyptic thriller 40 ACRES, which will have its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. She will also take on a leading role in the indie film FAT LADY SRIRACHA. In a post-apocalyptic future where food is scarce, the last descendants of a Black family of farmers who settled in Canada after the American Civil War must protect their homestead from an organized militia hell-bent on taking their land.   After a series of plagues and wars leaves society in ruins, the Freemans are surviving — even thriving — on a farm in the middle of nowhere, so long as they repel the occasional raiding party.  Former soldier Hailey made that choice years ago, believing that isolation was the only way to protect her family. She rose to fame in 2021 acting in the Disney animated feature film Encanto as the voice of Luisa Madrigal. Today on Too Opinionated, we sit down with the team behind the short film Happy Endings Funeral Parlor. Directed by Kevin Boston, the film stars actor and producer Zachary Roozen, who has appeared in over 70 film festivals and is known for Romeo and Juliet Killers (2022), Into the Dark (2018) and Happy Endings Funeral Parlor and Kyle Ricchetti, a multi-hyphenate actor, writer, and producer known for his work on Amazon and Hulu. Together, they present the theme of death from a unique childhood perspective, slipping into humor as a coping mechanism—a perspective that Ricchetti draws from his own personal experiences. Happy Endings Funeral Parlor also stars lead actor Trevor Larcom best known for True Detective (2014), Fresh Off the Boat (2015) and Thunder Force (2021).  Johnny and Marcell Remo are two brothers managing a failing funeral parlor for their oddball Uncle Nicky. Today on Too Opinionated we talk with  John Hickman who graces the big screen in Warner Brothers’ latest action film, GUNNER (which premiered on August 16th) where he makes his mark alongside Luke Hemsworth and Morgan Freeman, starring in the role of ‘Sheriff Bob Lily.'  John's inspiring story of becoming an actor later in life (after 40) is truly remarkable, even leading him to get clean & sober after an on-set meeting with Al Pacino. In addition to Pacino, he has worked alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names including Ed Harris, Pierce Brosnan, James Franco, Bruce Willis, Peter Facinelli, Jon Keeyes, Nikki Glaser, and more to become one of Hollywood’s go-to character actors. Hickman had always had an interest in acting, but it wasn’t until he won the opportunity to play a part in “True Blood” that he realized it was the path for him. His first scene on the show turned into several more, and soon he was a part of Joe Manganiello’s “wolf pack” (which led to the thrilling opportunity to work with live wolves in Season Five ). Roles on CW’s “The Originals" and “The Vampire Diaries, ” and more than 40 television series and films followed. After filming four movies back-to-back, John wound up in the hospital due to his drinking. While detoxing on his next set, Al Pacino pulled him aside one day and told him he needed to get better. John took that life-changing advice to heart and went to rehab, returning later to finish the film.   Besides acting, John is dedicated to philanthropy. In 2011, he established the John Herman Hickman Foundation to provide aid to victims of natural disasters and provide scholarships to the children of Peco Foods employees. Emma Driver, a burgeoning queer artist and cancer survivor, released her powerful new single, "Try Hard," on September 4th. This first release marks a significant step in her healing journey, transforming insecurities into acceptance and aiming to serve as a guiding light for others facing similar struggles. "What a nightmare to be perceived" are lyrics Emma penned in 2021 before her cancer diagnosis. However, these words resonated more deeply as she lost her hair to chemotherapy and became unrecognizable even to herself. Confronting mortality at 27, she found solace in her music once again, transforming fears and shame into art that eased her pain and revealed an undiscovered strength. Emerging from treatment in remission nearly three years after her last release under a different name, Emma felt a rapacious urgency to release music. Tom Morton is a British, French, and Canadian actor and voice artist, set to appear alongside Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley in Coralie Fargeat’s highly anticipated film, The Substance.  In addition to his on-screen work, Tom is an accomplished voice artist across various genres. He hosted the popular Spotify Original Podcast Real Pirates and has lent his voice to international campaigns for brands like Guerlain, Issey Miyake, and Azzaro. Travis Lim, a Hip Hop dancer from Vancouver, BC, now based in Los Angeles, is eager to share his inspiring journey—a decade-long pursuit of childhood dreams that has taken him from a small studio in Richmond, BC, to international stages. Today on Too Opinionated we chat with George Baron, the multi-talented mastermind who wrote, directed, and stars in the highly anticipated film, The Blue Rose, which premiered July 12th (available both on VOD and in theaters)! This gripping horror film follows two rookie detectives on a quest to solve a homicide. They find themselves trapped in an alternate reality filled with their worst nightmares. It's a mind-bending horror film that’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. The Blue Rose marks George’s feature directorial debut. It was inspired by an Immersive Theater Art Show he directed in February of 2020, featuring many of the same characters in the film — all inspired by the artwork of his friend and longtime collaborator, Sophia Victoria Frizzell. The Blue Rose is a “pastel-noir” film inspired by the golden age of Hollywood and the mysteries that lie underneath. Although not a straight period piece, he set it in the quasi-50s — a time that was ripe with repressed fears and desires — to enhance themes of gender fluidity and facing fears in a universe that doesn’t allow them to be expressed, which are themes George hopes to explore in his future directorial work.  George is no stranger to the spotlight. As an international touring artist on fiddle and pedal steel, Andrea Whitt will be joiningMoby in Europe this September on his first tour in ten years. Today on Too Opinionated, we visit with the director of Clawfoot, Michael Day! Michael Day is a writer, director, and producer born in Pittsburgh, PA. While in college, Michael got his start by directing a music video for a then, up-and-coming rapper, WIZ KHALIFA. After college, he immediately immersed himself in the film industry, working on such films as THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, DJANGO UNCHAINED, and TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, among others.  In the feature world, Michael wrote and produced an action trilogy, titled ROGUE WARFARE. The second film in the series ranked #1 it’s first week on Netflix. More recently, Michael started producing for Yale Entertainment, including such films as AS THEY MADE US,  RARE OBJECTS, and THE KILL ROOM.  Producing those films opened the door for Michael to produce and direct his first feature film for Yale, a dark comedy/thriller, CLAWFOOT, starring Francesca Eastwood, Milo Gibson, and Olivia Culpo. CLAWFOOT will be available on major VOD platforms. To say that Douglas Vermeeren is one of the busiest actors filming roles in feature films in Europe and the USA is an understatement. To keep up with his roles in productions in 2024, let’s start with the Western “Unnatural 2,” Douglas plays Lucifer, directed by Whit Whitman and shot in Kentucky in May 2024 for Little Monsters Productions. He then flew to attend the Cannes Film Festival before booking a role as gangster Archie Baker in “Clean Right Hook,” shot in London, UK, in Late May /early June 2024, directed by Sam Purewal for Black Coppice Productions, Then back to the US for “Deadly Endings”  shot in New Haven CT in June 2024. Douglas plays Bradley West with filmmaker Richard Harlost. Douglas also found time to shoot the role of Raynard in “Alien Horde,” his second film with Mahal Empire. And if that’s not enough, you can see Douglas in Paramount+’s six-episode documentary series “Mafia Spies,” now streaming. Based on the book Mafia Spies: The Inside Story of the CIA, Gangsters, JFK, and Castro.
