Warren Buffet – Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 28th…Today is National Insurance Awareness Day. Yes, I know, it's not the most thrilling holiday on the calendar, but bear with me. While insurance might not spark joy like a beach vacation or a surprise pizza delivery, it does bring peace of mind. It's all about being prepared for the unexpected, much like carrying an umbrella even when the weather forecast says it's going to be sunny. I think we’ve all probably been caught without an umbrella in a downpour before… right? Now, let's pivot to today's quote. It comes from Warren Buffett, a man who knows a thing or two about protecting one's assets: Warren Buffet once said…"Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago."This quote isn't just about trees or shade; it's about foresight and planning. Whether it's having your insurance in order or saving for retirement, being prepared means you're ready for whatever comes your way.So, how do we connect the dots between National Insurance Awareness Day and Buffett's wisdom? Think of insurance as the tree you plant today so you can enjoy the shade tomorrow. It's not just about paying premiums and reading the fine print; it's about ensuring that when life throws a curveball, you have a plan to catch it. Much like Buffett's advice, having insurance is a way of planting that tree now, so you're not left out in the sun later.Imagine driving your car without insurance… there is a reason why the fines for not having insurance are so high. Trust me… I know. It was only expired by one day… but it could have been much worse. In essence, preparation, whether through insurance or meticulous planning, isn't about living in fear of what might go wrong. It's about living confidently, knowing you're ready for whatever life throws your way.So, on this National Insurance Awareness Day, take a moment to review your own safety nets. Are you prepared? And remember Buffett's sage advice: plant that tree today, so you can sit in the shade tomorrow.Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope today's episode has given you something to think about and a chuckle or two. Helen Keller – The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 27th.Today is National Sunglasses Day! Yes, that's right, a whole day dedicated to those stylish, UV-protective shields for your eyes. Whether you're rocking aviators, wayfarers, or the ever-classic John Lennon round frames, today is the day to flaunt them. Sunglasses aren't just a fashion statement; they're essential for protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. Plus, they give you an air of mystery – because who knows what you're really looking at?Speaking of vision and perspective, our quote of the day comes from none other than Helen Keller. She once said,"The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision."Let's take a moment to unpack that. Helen Keller, who lost both her sight and hearing at a very young age, became a powerful advocate for people with disabilities. Her words remind us that having a vision isn't just about what we can physically see; it's about having dreams, goals, and a purpose that guide us through life. So, how does this tie into National Sunglasses Day, you ask? Well, think of your sunglasses as a metaphor. Just as they protect your eyes from the glaring sun, your vision – your goals and aspirations – shield you from the distractions and negativity that can blind you to what truly matters. When you have a clear vision, you're not just wandering through life aimlessly; you're moving with purpose, just like Helen Keller did.And let's be honest, there's something quite cool about wearing sunglasses and having a clear vision. It’s like being the protagonist in your own action movie – you're not just seeing the world; you're seeing where you want to go and taking steps to get there. So, as you put on your sunglasses today, take a moment to think about your vision for your life. What are your goals? What dreams are you chasing? And how are you protecting your vision from the blinding glare of doubt and distraction?Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I hope today's holiday and quote have given you a little extra boost of inspiration to carry with you throughout the day. Remember, protect your vision and keep your eyes on the prize. I'm Andrew McGivern signing off for today and I'll see you tomorrow for another episode of The Daily Quote. Until then, stay positive and keep shining – just like those stylish sunglasses of yours.

This delightful day celebrates the creamy, smooth, and utterly delicious dessert that has brought joy to countless people. Whether you enjoy it chilled, topped with whipped cream, or as a filling for other treats, chocolate pudding is a comfort food favorite.Today’s quote of the day comes from the influential author C.S. Lewis, who said, "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."C.S. Lewis's words encourage us to keep striving and dreaming, no matter our age or stage in life. It's a reminder that there's always room for new aspirations and fresh starts. So, how does this connect with National Chocolate Pudding Day? Think about it: If you are never too old to dream a new dream, then you are never too old for chocolate pudding either! Chocolate pudding often evokes memories of childhood, of simple pleasures and carefree times. But who says enjoyment of these simple pleasures should be left behind as we grow older? Just as Lewis reminds us that it’s never too late to set new goals or dream new dreams, it's also never too late to find joy in life's small delights.Chocolate pudding can be a symbol of this philosophy. It’s a simple, delightful treat that brings comfort and happiness, no matter how old you are. Maybe today, you can set a small goal to recreate that feeling of joy and simplicity by making your own chocolate pudding, sharing it with family, or just enjoying it quietly by yourself. Or maybe make some chocolate pudding a reward for when you accomplish a goal or complete a project.Today, as you celebrate National Chocolate Pudding Day, take a moment to reflect on C.S. Lewis's message. What new goals can you set? What dreams can you reignite? And while you're at it, don't forget to indulge in the small, sweet moments that make life so special. Thanks for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, reminding you that you're never too old to dream and enjoy the sweet things in life. Have a fantastic day and treat yourself to some delicious chocolate pudding!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 25th.It's National Catfish Day! This day is dedicated to celebrating the catfish, a versatile and popular fish found in many culinary traditions around the world. Whether fried, grilled, or served in a stew, catfish is a tasty dish for many. Now, let's move on to today's quote. It comes from the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, who said, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."Lao Tzu's words are a timeless reminder of the power of taking the first step, no matter how daunting a task may seem. Every significant achievement, every long journey, starts with that initial move forward. So, how does this connect with National Catfish Day? Well, catching a catfish isn't something that just happens. It involves preparation, patience, and taking that first step—heading out to the water, casting your line, and waiting. Similarly, whether you're starting a new project, pursuing a dream, or simply trying something new, you need to take that initial step to make progress.Consider the humble catfish itself. It starts as a tiny fry in a vast body of water, facing numerous challenges and predators. Yet, it grows and thrives, moving through its life one small step (or swim) at a time.Today, as you celebrate National Catfish Day, think about what first step you can take towards your goals. It doesn't have to be grand or perfect; it just has to be a step. Remember, the most important part of any journey is to begin. Thanks for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, reminding you that every great journey starts with a single step. Have a wonderful day and enjoy celebrating National Catfish Day!

Pablo Picasso – Every act of creation is first an act of destruction

Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 24thIt's National Upcycling Day! This day celebrates the creative process of transforming old, unused items into something new and valuable. It's all about creativity, sustainability, and giving a second life to things that might otherwise be discarded. In the spirit of creativity and transformation, today we have another quote from the legendary artist Pablo Picasso:"Every act of creation is first an act of destruction."Picasso's words remind us that creating something new often involves breaking down the old. It's about seeing potential where others see waste. This ties in perfectly with National Upcycling Day. When you upcycle, you're not just recycling materials; you're reimagining them, giving them a new purpose and value.Think about that old dresser you might have in your garage, collecting dust. To some, it’s just an eyesore, but to you, it could be a unique bookshelf or a stylish piece of decor. The key is to look beyond the surface and see the potential for transformation.Picasso, a master of his craft, understood that sometimes you need to deconstruct before you can create. It's the same with upcycling. You take something that seems worthless and, with a bit of creativity and effort, turn it into something wonderful. So today, as you celebrate National Upcycling Day, channel your inner Picasso. Look around you and see what items might be transformed. Remember, every act of creation starts with seeing beyond what is and imagining what could be.Thanks for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, encouraging you to embrace creativity and transformation in your life. Have a fantastic day, and happy upcycling!

W.H. Auden - Thousands have lived without love, not one without water

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 23rd.Did you know that today is National Hydration Day? Yes, that's right. It’s a day dedicated to reminding you to drink water. Seems like a no-brainer, but it's astonishing how many of us forget to stay hydrated. So, consider this your friendly reminder to drink up – your body will thank you.In keeping with today's theme, I’ve got a refreshing quote for you from the insightful poet, W.H. Auden who is know for his profound observations... Auden once said."Thousands have lived without love, not one without water." Let's break this down. Auden's quote highlights the undeniable necessity of water in our lives. Sure, we can get all philosophical and talk about the importance of love, but at the end of the day, it's water that keeps us physically alive. Think about it – you can survive weeks without food, but only a few days without water. And isn't it interesting how we often overlook such a simple yet vital part of our existence? It's easy to take for granted the things that are always there, like the availability of clean drinking water. In many parts of the world, access to water is a daily struggle, reminding us how precious it is.So, today, as you go about your daily routine, make it a point to stay hydrated. Keep a water bottle with you, and take sips regularly. If you're feeling adventurous, throw in a slice of lemon or cucumber. You might not be able to control everything in your life, but you can control how hydrated you are.Remember, taking care of yourself is the first step in taking care of others. Just like they say on airplanes – put your own oxygen mask on first before assisting others. Hydrate yourself before you dehydrate yourself. It's simple, really. That wraps up today's episode. I hope Auden’s words give you a moment of reflection and perhaps a chuckle or two. Stay hydrated, stay positive, and join me tomorrow for another dose of daily inspiration.I'm Andrew McGivern, and thanks for listening to The Daily Quote. Have a great day!

Whether you like them battered, breaded, or gluten-free, today is the perfect excuse to indulge in this crispy delight. And let's be honest, even if you're not a fan, it's hard to resist the allure of a perfectly fried onion ring.On to today's quote, which comes from none other than the legendary actress Audrey Hepburn: "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow." This quote speaks to the heart of hope and faith in the future, much like the joy that planting a garden brings. Now, you might be wondering, Andrew.... what do onion rings and gardens have in common? Well... if nobody planted a garden... there would be no onion rings. To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrows tasty Onion Rings!!!Also, both require a little bit of patience and care. You can't rush a garden any more than you can rush a perfect onion ring. Both involve layers, whether it's the literal layers of an onion or the layers of effort and time you put into cultivating a garden or frying that perfect batch.Audrey Hepburn's quote encourages you to invest in the future, to believe that what you nurture today will bloom tomorrow. I'm reading Maximum Achievement right now... and Paul Tracey mentions this concept a lot in the book... the Law of Sowing and Reaping. What you sow today you reap tomorrow.Similarly, think about how you might feel when you bite into a perfectly cooked onion ring – that satisfaction comes from knowing that someone took the time to make it just right. It's a small reminder that good things come to those who wait. So, today, as you savor an onion ring or two, take a moment to reflect on the small acts of patience and hope you can cultivate in your own life. Maybe it's tending to a garden, planning for a future project, or simply enjoying the process of cooking something delicious. Remember, each small step you take is a testament to your belief in a brighter tomorrow. That's all for today's episode of The Daily Quote. Thank you for joining me, and I hope your day is filled with positivity and maybe even a few delicious onion rings. Until next time, this is Andrew McGivern signing off. Have a wonderful day! And I'll be back with another daily quote... tomorrow. If you plant your finger on the follow button today, you will reap a new quote tomorrow... It is a universal law afterall.

Joe Polish vs Copernicus

Joe Polish vs Copernicus

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today. On this bright and beautiful June day, we celebrate National Selfie Day. Yes, today is the day to capture your best self from your favorite angle, and perhaps with that perfect filter. sigh...Today we are doing something a little different... we are putting two quotes up against each other and I'll let you decide which one is true. Our first quote of the day is from the famed astronomer, Nicolaus Copernicus, who once said, "The world does not revolve around you." A humbling reminder from the man who figured out that Earth isn't the center of the universe. Imagine the shock back then! It’s like someone telling you your selfie isn’t the best thing on the internet - it kind of makes you think twice about posting that selfie now... but wait...Our second quote today comes from the modern-day marketing genius, Joe Polish, who turns Copernicus’s notion on its head with, "The world does revolve around you..." The entire quote from Joe Polish Says...You may have heard the phrase: “The world doesn’t revolve around you.” But, if it doesn’t revolve around you, then who does it revolve around? It’s YOUR life. And YOUR world actually DOES revolve around YOU. It really does. Most of the time you are thinking about YOUR life, YOUR family, YOUR desires, YOUR dreams, if YOU got enough sleep, if YOU’RE bored, if YOU’RE hungry… You’re thinking about YOUR life.In order to do good Marketing, you need to understand your Client’s world revolves around THEM. They are thinking about THEMSELVES. Confusing, isn’t it? Who is right... Copernicus or Polish?Maybe I can feel good about posting that selfie, after all.Let’s untangle this paradox together. On National Selfie Day, we can look at both of these quotes and find a balanced perspective. Copernicus reminds us that we are part of a much larger cosmos. Our problems, while significant to us, are but a tiny speck in the vastness of the universe. It’s a gentle nudge to keep our ego in check. I mean, you can expand your view to a point that makes yourself absolutely insignificant... when you consider an infinite universe, and infinite timeline and infinite dimensions or Multi-Verse or alternate realities. That pretty much makes your tiny slice of existence mean nothing doesn't it... well NO. But I get the point...When you’re lining up that perfect selfie, remember there’s a whole infinite everything out there beyond your lens.On the flip side, Joe Polish’s quote suggests that your world – your experiences, your emotions, your perceptions – is uniquely yours. It does revolve around you in the sense that you have the power to shape your reality, to make choices, and to influence the course of your life. That selfie you take is a snapshot of your world at that moment, a reflection of your individuality. So, how do we reconcile these two seemingly contradictory ideas? It’s simple: balance. Embrace your significance without forgetting your place in the grand scheme. Take pride in who you...

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 20th.Did you know that today is World Productivity Day? That's right, today we celebrate the art of getting things done, tackling those to-do lists, and making the most out of every minute. It's a day to focus on maximizing our efficiency and achieving our goals. My productivity system, including the workflow involved in producing this podcast is Notion... the no code database app that allows you to build your own system from scratch or use a template. But I love it... and for the most part it works really well.In honor of World Productivity Day, I’ve chosen a quote from one of the most productive people in history, Benjamin Franklin. He once said, "Lost time is never found again."Let’s dive into this. Franklin's words are a powerful reminder that time is our most precious resource. Once it's gone, we can’t get it back, so it's crucial to use it wisely. Being productive isn't just about being busy; it's about making sure our actions align with our goals and values. It’s about prioritizing what truly matters and eliminating distractions that can derail our progress. Now, I know that staying productive can sometimes feel like a Herculean task. There are endless emails, meetings, and distractions pulling us in a hundred different directions. But remember, even small steps can lead to big accomplishments. By focusing on one task at a time and giving it your full attention, you can make significant progress. Here’s a little tip: try breaking your tasks into smaller, manageable chunks and tackle them one by one. This not only makes the workload feel lighter but also gives you a sense of accomplishment as you check each item off your list. And don’t forget to take breaks. Sometimes, a little downtime can boost your productivity and creativity.Speaking of breaks, here’s a fun fact to keep you motivated: today is also World Tapas Day. So, after a productive day of checking off those to-do lists, you have the perfect excuse to reward yourself with some delicious small plates. Because nothing says "I’ve been productive" quite like a tasty snack reward. So, as you power through your day, keep Franklin’s words in mind. Make the most of your time, stay focused on what matters, and remember to enjoy the little rewards along the way. After all, a productive day topped off with tapas sounds like a pretty great way to celebrate, doesn’t it?Remember, Lost Time is Never Found Again...So if you decide to get into a productivity system like notion... be careful because you can end up wasting a lot of time on system design instead of getting the actual work done...There is a serious rabbit hole risk here... trust me, I know...Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. Let me know if you like the show or have any suggestions... contact info is in the show notes. Have a fantastic day, stay productive, and don’t forget to enjoy some tapas.

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 19th.Its World Sauntering Day, a delightful celebration encouraging you to slow down, enjoy the journey, and take a more relaxed approach to life. It’s a day to put aside the hustle and bustle and appreciate the simple pleasures around you. With that in mind, let’s turn to today’s quote:We have another quote from - Ralph Waldo Emerson"Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience." Emerson's words perfectly capture the spirit of World Sauntering Day. In our fast-paced world, we often forget the importance of slowing down and being patient. We rush from one task to the next, always focusing on the next destination rather than appreciating the journey itself.Sauntering, by its very nature, is an act of patience. It’s about strolling without haste, taking in your surroundings, and enjoying each moment for what it is. Much like how nature operates—unhurried yet purposeful. When you adopt this pace, you start noticing things you might have missed: the way the sunlight filters through the trees, the gentle rustling of leaves, or the melodic chirping of birds. These small moments of beauty are Emerson’s secret of nature. So, today, embrace the art of sauntering. Take a leisurely walk, breathe deeply, and allow yourself to be fully present. Let go of the urgency and give yourself the gift of patience. After all, as the old saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait.” Plus, you might just find that slowing down brings a surprising amount of joy and clarity. And remember, sauntering isn’t just for today. It’s a mindset you can carry forward, helping you to live a more mindful and enriched life. Who knew that the key to a happier life might just be walking a bit slower? That wraps up today’s episode. I hope you found some inspiration and perhaps a bit of dry humor in our journey through Emerson’s wisdom and the art of sauntering. Have a fantastic day, and take it one leisurely step at a time.Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. Until next time, I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off.

There's something undeniably rejuvenating about spreading out a blanket, unpacking a basket of treats, and allowing the warmth of the sun and laughter of loved ones to wash over you.Speaking of embracing life's simple joys, let's take a look at today's quote from the renowned Swiss philosopher, Henri Frederic Amiel, who said: "He who is not satisfied with a little, is satisfied with nothing."Amiel's wisdom reminds us that true contentment often lies not in the accumulation of wealth or possessions, but in our ability to find deep fulfillment in life's simplest pleasures – a home-cooked meal shared with loved ones, a quiet stroll through nature, or the simple act of being present in the moment. As you go about your day today, I invite you to approach it with the same spirit of gratitude and appreciation for life's simple gifts as one savoring a leisurely picnic surrounded by natural beauty. For it is in savoring the little things that we discover the greatest joys. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. Just as a colorful array of veggies provides essential vitamins and minerals, embracing variety in our diets and lifestyles can enrich and fortify us.Speaking of the importance of variety and balance, let's jump to today's quote from the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, who wisely stated: "Moderation is best in all things."Hesiod's words remind us that true fulfillment often lies in finding the middle path, the balance between extremes. Just as a diet consisting solely of one vegetable would be lacking, a life lived in excess or deprivation ultimately leads to imbalance and dissatisfaction. As you go about your day today, I invite you to approach it with the same spirit of moderation and balance as one carefully curating a plate with a harmonious variety of nourishing veggies. Seek opportunities to bring more equilibrium to your routines, habits, and mindset.Perhaps today is the day you finally commit to bringing more balance to your work and personal life, ensuring you're not overindulging in one at the expense of the other, just as you wouldn't load your plate with only one type of vegetable.Or maybe you'll simply approach your daily experiences with a more mindful spirit, savoring moments of joy and productivity while also allowing space for rest and rejuvenation – the yin and yang that true moderation requires. So why not make an extra effort to fill your plate with a vibrant array of veggies today? Let each bite be a reminder to also cultivate more balance and variety in your life's metaphorical diet. For it is in this moderation of extremes that we find the sustenance for true contentment and well-being.Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 15th.And it is National Smile Day - a delightfully simple reminder to let our inner joy and warmth shine through with a bright, genuine smile. There's something truly powerful and contagious about the simple act of smiling.Speaking of the transformative power of positivity, let's connect that to today's quote from the beloved Spanish philosopher and novelist, Miguel de Cervantes, who said: "A sad soul can kill you quicker than a germ."Well... that isn't the most positive quote is it? But if it is true then the opposite must be true, right?Cervantes' words are a poignant reminder that our mindset and emotional state have a profound impact on our overall wellbeing and quality of life. Just as a smile can uplift those around us, a perpetually negative outlook can slowly diminish our vitality and spirit. As you go about your day today, I invite you to approach it with the same radiant warmth and optimism as someone flashing a bright, genuine smile. Make a conscious effort to shift your perspective, to seek out the silver linings, and to let your inner light shine through.Perhaps today is the day you finally make a commitment to actively cultivating more positivity and gratitude in your life, whether it's through journaling, meditation, or simply taking a few moments each day to appreciate the good that surrounds you.Or maybe you'll simply approach your daily interactions and experiences with a more joyful and uplifting spirit, letting your smile be a beacon of warmth and encouragement to those around you.So why not make a conscious effort to smile more today? Let the simple act of curving your lips upward be a reminder to embrace a positive, life-affirming mindset. For it is in these moments of genuine joy and optimism that we truly nourish our souls and uplift those around us.There have been studies that take depressed people and get them to put a ridiculous smile on their face and simply adopt the posture of a happy person... and they weren't able to feel depressed while smiling. These studies have been criticized recently but there is only one way to find out if it works for you.... SMILE... and see if you feel happier. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope this encourages you to let your inner light shine through with a bright, genuine smile, knowing that a positive outlook is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and the world. Have a wonderful day, and remember, a sunny smile has the power to brighten even the darkest of days.

Just as fine bourbon requires years of careful aging to reach its full depth of flavor, many of life's greatest achievements demand we resist the urge for instant gratification.Speaking of the rewards of perseverance, let's connect that to today's quote from the legendary martial artist and actor Bruce Lee, who said: "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."Lee's words highlight the immense power that comes from truly mastering something through dedicated repetition and refining of one's craft. True excellence isn't achieved through sporadic bursts of effort, but through the unwavering commitment to continual improvement and perfection of the fundamentals. As you go about your day today, I invite you to approach it with the same spirit of patience, discipline, and dedication as a master bourbon distiller. Recognize that any skill, goal, or endeavor worth pursuing requires you to resist the temptation of shortcuts, and instead commit to the long, refining journey of practice and mastery.Perhaps today is the day you finally double down on a core skill or area of expertise you've been neglecting, vowing to refine and perfect it through steadfast repetition, just as one meticulously crafts a fine bourbon over many years.Or maybe you'll simply approach your daily tasks and interactions with a renewed commitment to excellence, striving to improve and master the fundamentals through consistent effort, rather than relying on fleeting bouts of enthusiasm. So why not pour yourself a glass of bourbon today? Let its rich, carefully aged flavor be a reminder to embrace the patience, discipline, and unwavering dedication required to truly master your craft, one step at a time. For it is in this commitment to perfecting the fundamentals that we find our greatest strengths and successes. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope this encourages you to resist the allure of shortcuts and instant gratification, and instead commit to the long, rewarding journey of mastery through persistent practice and refinement. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 13th.Did you know that today is National Weed Your Garden Day? It’s a day dedicated to getting out there, pulling up those pesky weeds, and giving your plants the room they need to grow. Whether you have a sprawling garden or just a few potted plants, taking the time to weed can make all the difference. Now, on to our quote of the day. Today we have another quote from ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius. He once said, "The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones."Let’s think about that for a moment. Confucius, with his deep wisdom, is telling us that even the most monumental tasks can be accomplished if we break them down into manageable steps. It's a reminder that no matter how overwhelming something might seem, progress is made by starting small and being consistent. This ties perfectly into National Weed Your Garden Day. Weeds, much like the challenges in our lives, can take over if we don’t address them regularly. The thought of clearing an entire garden might be intimidating, but if you start with just one weed, then another, and another, before you know it, you've made significant progress. It’s all about taking those small steps.Think about your own life. What "weeds" have you been meaning to pull? Maybe it's that pile of paperwork on your desk, a habit you want to change, or a goal you've set for yourself. Instead of focusing on the entire task, start with one small stone. Clear one piece of paper, make one healthy choice, take one step towards your goal.Gardening teaches us patience and persistence. Just like a well-tended garden, our lives can flourish when we regularly remove what doesn't serve us and make room for growth. Today is a perfect day to start weeding out those small obstacles and making way for something beautiful. Thanks for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I hope you found some inspiration to carry with you throughout your day. Remember, even the biggest mountains are moved one small stone at a time. I'm Andrew McGivern, looking forward to sharing more words of wisdom with you tomorrow. Until then, happy weeding and happy growing!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 12th.On this fine June day, we celebrate National Red Rose Day. Yes, the red rose, that classic symbol of love and passion. It's a day to appreciate the beauty and fragrance of these lovely flowers. Maybe take a moment to smell a rose or give one to someone special. Just watch out for the thorns – love can be prickly, after all. Now, let's get to the heart of our podcast – the quote of the day. Today’s quote is from Anne Brontë, who once said, "He who dares not grasp the thorn should never crave the rose."This quote perfectly ties in with our celebration of National Red Rose Day. Anne Brontë, in her timeless wisdom, reminds us that to enjoy the beauty and reward of the rose, we must also be willing to face the risk of the thorn. It's a metaphor for life, love, and the pursuit of our passions. This quote reminds me of the Poison song... every rose has its thorns... If your gen X then you know what I'm talking about. He who dares not grasp the thorn should never crave the rose...Think about it. In your own life, what "roses" are you craving? A dream job, a loving relationship, personal happiness? Now, consider the "thorns" that come with them. Maybe it’s the fear of failure, the pain of rejection, or the hard work and dedication required to achieve your goals.Anne Brontë's quote encourages you to take a chance despite the potential for pain. Embrace the challenges and risks, because only then can you truly appreciate the beauty and fulfillment that comes with your successes. Remember, the thorns make the rose even more precious. So today, as you go about your day, let this quote be a reminder. Don't shy away from the thorns. Face them head-on, and you’ll find the roses worth every bit of effort. And with that, we've reached the end of today’s episode. Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope Anne Brontë's words inspire you to grasp your own roses today, thorns and all. I'll be back tomorrow with another quote to brighten your day. Until then, enjoy National Red Rose Day, and remember, every rose has its thorns, but that doesn’t make them any less beautiful.Have a wonderful day!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 11th.Today, we celebrate National Corn on the Cob Day. A whole day dedicated to the delicious, buttery, sometimes even messy joy of eating corn on the cob. I love corn on the cob... I love it grilled, boiled, or roasted. Corn on the cob is a staple of summer barbecues and family gatherings. It is one of those simple pleasures of life... but it does require butter and salt though... just wanted to add that because it makes it that much tastier!Today's Quote comes from the Roman poet, Horace. It is a quote that speaks to making the most of each moment. Horace once said, "Carpe diem," which translates to "Seize the day."The longer version of the quote says "carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero" which means "Seize the day and put very little trust in tomorrow"You might be wondering, "Andrew, how does this relate to corn on the cob?" Well, let's think about it. Corn on the cob is one of those seasonal delights that you really have to savor when the time is right. It's not something you eat every day, but when you do, you fully enjoy the experience.Horace's advice to "seize the day" is all about embracing the present moment, just like you would enjoy a perfectly cooked ear of corn on a sunny summer day. Life is full of opportunities and moments that we often overlook or take for granted. But when you seize the day, you appreciate the here and now, and make the most of what you have.So today, as you enjoy your corn on the cob, let it remind you to embrace the present. Don't wait for the perfect moment; make the moment perfect. Whether you're spending time with loved ones, working on a project, or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon, take a moment to appreciate it fully. If you find yourself caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, take a cue from Horace. Carpe diem. Seize the day. Embrace the little joys, like the taste of fresh corn on the cob, and let them remind you of the beauty and richness of the present moment. And don't wait too long... the corn on the cob might not be here tomorrow. Get it while you can...That's it for today’s episode. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. Remember, seize the day and enjoy the simple pleasures. I’m Andrew McGivern, signing off for today and I’ll be here with you tomorrow with another daily quote.

And it covers more than the two spices in a famous chicken brands recipe.Today is the day to celebrate those magical ingredients that elevate our meals from ordinary to extraordinary. Whether you’re a fan of basil, thyme, or perhaps a touch of cumin, today’s the day to appreciate the flavor and flair that herbs and spices bring to our lives.Herbs and Spices make food come to life. This sequeways nicely into today's quote from the renowned celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse: "BAM"Just kidding... well not really. That is something Emeril said.... literally ALL THE TIME. But today's quote of the day is another quote from Emerial Lagasse...“Life just doesn’t taste as good without a little kick.”It’s quite fitting that on National Herbs and Spices Day, we have a quote about adding a little extra something to make life flavorful.Just as Emeril knows how to turn a simple dish into a culinary masterpiece with the right blend of herbs and spices, his words remind us that life, too, benefits from a bit of zest.Think about it: without that dash of cinnamon in your morning oatmeal or that sprinkle of oregano on your pizza, meals can be pretty bland. The same goes for life. It’s the little kicks—trying something new, taking risks, adding a bit of adventure—that make our days more exciting and memorable. So, as you cook today, maybe experiment with a new herb or spice you’ve never tried before. And as you go about your day, think about how you can add a little kick to your routine. Maybe it’s signing up for a class, planning a spontaneous outing, or simply trying a different route on your daily walk. Like Emeril says, life just doesn’t taste as good without that extra bit of excitement. And on that note, let’s wrap up today’s episode. The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 9th.Did you know that today is National Donald Duck Day? That’s right, our favorite feathered friend is celebrated today. Donald Duck made his debut on June 9th, 1934, in the cartoon “The Wise Little Hen.” So, if you find yourself in a bit of a quack today, just remember it’s all in celebration of Donald. The more loveable and less orange Donald that is...Now, let’s dive into today’s quote, which comes from Donald's wealthy and wise uncle, Scrooge McDuck: "Work smarter, not harder."Ah, Uncle Scrooge. If there's anyone who knows a thing or two about turning a dime into a dollar, it’s him. Although he did have a lucky, number one dime... but that is just superstition. While he’s often portrayed as a bit miserly, there’s a lot we can learn from his philosophy. "Work smarter, not harder" is a mantra that encourages efficiency, creativity, and the strategic use of resources.Let's break this down. Donald Duck, as much as we love him, often finds himself in slapstick situations, working tirelessly but not always effectively. Whether he’s struggling with gardening, battling his nephews' pranks, or taking on one of his numerous odd jobs, Donald's efforts are undeniably commendable but not always fruitful. Uncle Scrooge, on the other hand, epitomizes the idea of working smarter. He uses his wit, his knowledge, and yes, sometimes his stinginess, to make the most out of every situation. So, how can you apply this in your life today? Maybe you’ve got a mountain of tasks ahead of you, and the thought of tackling them all is overwhelming. Instead of diving in headfirst and exhausting yourself, take a step back. Look at your to-do list and find ways to streamline your efforts. Prioritize tasks that will have the most significant impact and think of creative solutions to make the process easier.I use Notion for this and if you are interested in learning about my system... reach out to me today. My contact details are in the show notes. For instance, if you’re trying to organize a cluttered workspace, rather than spending hours moving things from one place to another, consider setting up a more efficient filing system or decluttering method. Or if you're handling a complex project at work, maybe there's a tool or software that can help you automate part of the process, saving you time and energy. And there definitley is... Notion anyone? And let’s not forget to add a bit of humor to your day, just as Donald Duck would. When things get tough, sometimes the best thing you can do is laugh at the absurdity of it all. After all, a good chuckle can be the smartest way to relieve stress and reset your mindset. On this National Donald Duck Day, channel your inner Scrooge McDuck. Be strategic, be efficient, and don’t be afraid to dive into your work with enthusiasm – just make sure you’re diving into a pile of gold coins metaphorically, not literally. Trust me, the latter hurts a lot more than you’d think. Thanks for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I’m Andrew McGivern, reminding you to work smarter, not harder, and to keep a little bit of that ducky humor in your day. And if...

Ryunosuke Satoro - Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 8th.Today is World Oceans Day, a day dedicated to celebrating our vast and mysterious oceans. Established by the United Nations in 2008, this day aims to raise awareness about the critical role the oceans play in our lives and the importance of preserving and protecting them. The oceans cover more than 70% of our planet's surface and are home to an incredible diversity of life. They also play a crucial role in regulating our climate and providing resources like food and oxygen. The oceans are the place where all the world’s interesting sea creatures reside, and where many of us have, at one point or another, lost our sunglasses... contributing to the plastic problem - a topic for another time...Our quote of the day comes from Ryunosuke Satoro, a Japanese writer known for his thought-provoking insights and reflective prose. Although not as widely known as some of his contemporaries, his work often explored themes of unity and the human experience, making his words resonate deeply with many. And sort of on theme our quote from Ryunosuke Satoro is:“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” Now, isn't that a beautiful thought? One drop on its own might seem insignificant, just a tiny speck in the grand scheme of things. But when you bring all those drops together, you get the magnificent, powerful ocean. It's kind of like when you attempt to tackle a daunting task alone and feel overwhelmed. But bring in a few friends, some snacks, and maybe a playlist, and suddenly you're an unstoppable force of productivity—or at the very least, you're having fun while trying. The same goes for our efforts to protect our oceans. Each little action we take, like picking up trash on the beach or reducing plastic use, might feel like just a drop. But when everyone pitches in, those drops create waves of change. Plus, it’s a great excuse to go to the beach—just tell people you’re saving the planet one seashell at a time. So, as you go about your day today, remember the power of the collective. Whether you're working on a project, advocating for a cause, or just trying to survive your morning commute, know that you're part of something bigger. And if you happen to find yourself near the ocean, take a moment to appreciate its beauty, its power, and perhaps skip a stone or two. Just don’t forget where you put your sunglasses this time.Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, reminding you that together, we are an ocean. Have a fantastic day, and I'll see you tomorrow for more inspiration and a touch of humor.

So, whether you're a fan of chocolate chunks, fudge swirls, or just pure, unadulterated chocolate, today is your day to indulge.Personally, I'm a pure old fashioned chocolate guy. Definitely my favourite flavour for sure... I like Salted Caramel too but today isn't National Salted Caramel Day is it?Speaking of Ice Cream... Today’s quote comes from the American writer and humorist, Richard Paul Evans, who once said, "Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy ice cream, which is pretty much the same thing."This quote fits perfectly with National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Think about it. There’s something inherently joyful about enjoying a scoop of rich, creamy chocolate ice cream. It's a simple pleasure that can turn a bad day around and bring a smile to your face. While money can't buy happiness in the truest sense, it can buy experiences and moments of joy. Chocolate ice cream is a great example of this. It’s affordable, accessible, and brings a universal sense of delight. When you buy yourself a scoop of chocolate ice cream, you’re not just buying a dessert – you’re buying a moment of pure, unadulterated happiness.Evans’ quote also reminds you that sometimes, the simple things in life bring the greatest joy. It's not about extravagant purchases or lavish lifestyles. Happiness can often be found in the little things – like the delight of chocolate ice cream on a warm June day.If you have NO MONEY it is difficult to be happy... but if you have enough money then it becomes easier. Maybe the saying should be excessive money can't buy happiness. Some people have tons of money but are angry and bitter people. And some of the poorest people in the world are living happy fullfilled lives. I get where this quote is coming from. You don't have to be rich to be happy. So today, as you celebrate National Chocolate Ice Cream Day, take a moment to appreciate the simple pleasures. Whether it's a waffle cone filled with your favorite chocolate flavor or a bowl topped with all the fixings, enjoy the happiness it brings. Remember, it’s the small, joyful moments that often make life so sweet.Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 6th.It's National Drive-In Movie Day, a celebration of a classic American pastime that conjures up images of vintage cars, popcorn, and outdoor movie magic under the stars. Drive-in movies have a special place in American culture, dating back to the first drive-in theater opening on this day in 1933 in Camden, New Jersey. It was a novel idea that brought families and friends together, offering an exciting blend of the comfort of your car and the communal experience of watching a great film.Speaking of great film's, lets segue into our quote of the day, which comes from the legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg: "Every time I go to a movie, it's magic, no matter what the movie's about."Spielberg's words capture the essence of why drive-in movies have remained open for generations. Spielberg himself is no stranger to creating movie magic, having directed some of the most iconic films of all time, like "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "Jurassic Park," and "Indiana Jones." His films have that unique ability to transport you to another world, much like the experience of watching a movie under the stars at a drive-in.Drive-in movies are about more than just the film on the screen; they're about the atmosphere, the shared reactions, and the memories created. There’s a special charm in tuning your car radio to the movie’s sound, snuggling up with a blanket, and enjoying the film in an open-air setting. It's a slice of nostalgia that reminds you of simpler times, even if you’re experiencing it for the first time.On National Drive-In Movie Day, Spielberg's quote reminds you to appreciate the magic in these moments. Whether you're reliving childhood memories or creating new ones, take the time to savor the experience. It’s a reminder that sometimes, it’s not about the plot or the special effects, but the simple joy of being present and enjoying something together. So, maybe tonight is the perfect time to find a local drive-in or set up your own outdoor movie night in the backyard. It’s a day to reflect on how we can make the planet a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable place for ourselves and future generations. So, while you’re contemplating recycling that coffee cup, let’s dive into today’s quote.4Our quote for today comes from the renowned environmentalist David Suzuki: "We must reconnect with the natural world because it sustains us in every way."Suzuki’s words are a hopeful reminder of the deep connection we share with our environment. On World Environment Day, his message encourages us to not only recognize the importance of the natural world but to also rekindle our relationship with it.Nature sustains us in countless ways, providing the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. Beyond these essentials, the natural world offers beauty, tranquility, and inspiration. When we take the time to appreciate and reconnect with nature, we are reminded of its value and the need to protect it.Today, let’s take Suzuki’s advice to heart. The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 4th. Today is National Cheese Day. Yes, you heard that right, an entire day dedicated to that wonderful dairy delight. Whether you love cheddar, brie, gouda, or you're a fan of the classic american phony plasticy sliced cheese like substance, today is your excuse to indulge in your favorite cheesy treats. After all, who doesn’t love a good cheese board or a perfectly melted grilled cheese sandwich? So, go ahead and add a little extra cheese to your day – it’s practically a requirement. Speaking of CHEESE, lets move on to the quote of the day. Our quote for today comes from Hem and Haw in Spencer Johnson's book, "Who Moved My Cheese?" Hem and Haw were two mice who roamed a maze everyday in search of cheese. They said,"What would you do if you weren't afraid?" Now, isn’t that a question that can really get you thinking?Hem and Haw’s journey through the maze in search of cheese is a powerful metaphor for life's changes and the fears that often come with them. It’s fitting that we reflect on this today, on National Cheese Day. Just as the characters in the story searched for their cheese, we often search for our own 'cheese' – the things that bring us joy and fulfillment. In the book, Hem and Haw have it made because they had a big supply of cheese. The cheese lasted a long time so they didn't have to search for "new cheese". But when the cheese ran out they didn't immediately look for new cheese. They thought "maybe the cheese will come back".They asked questions like "who moved my cheese".Well, it doesn't really matter who or why the cheese moved. Hem and Haw need to get out there and find "new cheese". But they were afraid to go after "new cheese".So, let’s take a moment to ponder this:What would you do if you weren’t afraid?Would you search for a new type of cheese?Maybe start a new hobby, change your career, or even tell someone how you really feel? Fear can be a powerful force, but it doesn't have to be. Take a cue from Hem and Haw – embrace change, face your fears, and who knows, you might just find a new favorite cheese along the way.Trust me... i know!If the cheese runs out, your not going to get more by staying where you are. You have to go for the cheese. Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I hope you enjoy National Cheese Day and that the words of Hem and Haw inspire you to face your fears and embrace change.Because that is what the book, Who Moved My Cheese is all about. Albert Einstein – Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 3rd. Today, we celebrate National Repeat Day. Today, we celebrate National Repeat Day.Today, we celebrate National Repeat Day.Today, we celebrate National Repeat Day.Just kidding... that would be an anoying day.National Repeat Day is NOT about repeating the same thing over and over again like my son does when he wants to bother his sisters. This holiday encourages you to revisit and repeat the good things in life. Think of it as a chance to enjoy your favorite meal again, re-read a beloved book, or simply relive a cherished memory. Just don't use it as an excuse to make the same bad joke twice...unless it's really, really bad... I mean really good.Speaking of really good... lets move on to todays quote of the day! Today's quote is from the brilliant Albert Einstein:"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Now, you might be thinking, "Andrew, isn't this quote contradicting the idea of National Repeat Day?"Well, let's dive in and unravel this. The key here is expecting different results... Einstein's quote reminds us that repetition without reflection or adaptation can lead to frustration and stagnation. It’s a nudge to be mindful of our habits and routines. While National Repeat Day is all about enjoying the best parts of our lives on loop, Einstein's wisdom tells us to ensure we're not stuck in a cycle of unproductive patterns. Think of it this way: Repeating a delightful activity that brings you joy and fulfillment is like playing your favorite song on repeat. But repeating the same mistakes or expecting new outcomes from unchanged behaviors? That's like hitting replay on a song you can't stand and hoping it'll grow on you. Spoiler alert: It won't.Unless its Def Leppard... because even their bad songs are great once they grow on you. And I'm not even kidding here.So today, indulge in the pleasures of repetition, but also take a moment to reflect on the areas where change might be needed. Embrace the best of both worlds: the comfort of the familiar and the growth that comes from breaking free of unhelpful cycles. Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. Take this insight with you, enjoy the beauty of repetition where it enriches your life, and be brave enough to change what doesn't serve you.I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today and looking forward to sharing another inspiring thought with you tomorrow. Have a wonderful day!

Aristotle - We are what we repeatedly do...

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Today is June 2nd and welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today. Today we are celebrating National Donut Day! That’s right, it’s a day dedicated to those delicious, circular treats that come in countless flavors and styles. Whether you prefer a classic glazed, a filled delight, or something more exotic, donuts are a simple pleasure that brings a little joy into our lives. You might remember, I recently said I don't like donunts back on National Macaroon Day. I'm not a donut fan but when I get a great donut... that is amazing. So on National Donut Day... if you are going to indulge in a donut make it an amazing one. Now, let’s move on to the quote of the day. Today's quote is another one from the esteemed philosopher, Aristotle:"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." On this National Donut Day, Aristotle’s words remind us of the power of our daily actions and habits. Just like the consistent efforts of a baker who perfects each batch of donuts, our repeated actions shape who we are and what we achieve. One perfect donut doesn’t just happen; it’s the result of careful preparation, practice, and consistency. Aristotle's quote encourages us to reflect on our own habits and routines. If we aspire to excellence, we must cultivate positive habits and dedicate ourselves to continual improvement. It’s not about a single, grand act but rather the small, consistent actions that build up over time. Think about it: enjoying a donut once in a while is a treat, but making healthy choices regularly leads to overall well-being.This quote reminds me of another quote.... You are what you eat. So don't eat too many donuts, too often.Similarly, practicing kindness, diligence, or creativity every day shapes us into better versions of ourselves. Excellence is within reach when we commit to making positive actions a habit. So, on this National Donut Day, as you savor your favorite donut, consider the habits you’re cultivating in your life. Enjoy the sweetness of the moment but also reflect on how your daily actions contribute to your personal excellence. Remember, excellence is not an act, but a habit – just like crafting the perfect donut. Are you using a habit tracker or journal to build good habits? I use Notion and I love the power and flexibility of designing a custom system. I'll tell you more about it another time. Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I hope today's quote inspires you to embrace positive habits and strive for excellence in all that you do. Have a fantastic day, enjoy a donut or two, and keep building those habits of excellence. Until tomorrow, stay dedicated and subscribe or follow the show.

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed to kickstart you day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 1st.And thankfully today my voice is mostly back. It has been a rough few days and I'm sincerely sorry if you listened to an episode in the last few days. Yikes. On this day, we celebrate National Go Barefoot Day - a delightfully freeing invitation to kick off our shoes and reconnect with the simple joys of going shoeless. There's something grounding and liberating about feeling the earth beneath our bare feet.Speaking of finding freedom and joy in life's simple pleasures, let's connect that to today's quote - another one from the renowned American naturalist, John Muir, who said:"Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity."Muir's words are a powerful reminder that true rejuvenation often comes from unplugging from the hustle of modern life and reconnecting with the simple pleasures and wildness of nature. Just as going barefoot grounds us, immersing ourselves in nature's untamed beauty restores our souls. As you go about your day today, I invite you to approach it with the same sense of freedom and childlike wonder as one joyfully kicking off their shoes and wiggling their bare toes in the grass.Shed the metaphorical shoes that constrain you – the worries, the schedules, the expectations – and allow yourself to simply be present.Perhaps today is the day you finally take that long-overdue hike or spend an afternoon picnicking in a park, feeling the revitalizing touch of nature's wildness upon your bare feet and soul.Or maybe you'll simply approach your daily tasks and interactions with a more grounded and carefree spirit, seeking out small moments to metaphorically go barefoot – to breathe deeply, to move with less hurry, and to appreciate the simple beauties that often go unnoticed. So why not let your bare feet kiss the earth today?Let the sensation of grass, sand, or soil between your toes be a reminder to reconnect with the wildness and freedom that restores our spirits. For it is in these moments of unbridled simplicity that we find our way back home to our truest, most joyful selves. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope this encourages you to embrace the liberating power of life's simple pleasures, whether that's going barefoot or immersing yourself in nature's wildness.Have a wonderful day, and remember, sometimes the greatest freedom is found in shedding our metaphorical shoes and rediscovering our childlike wonder.I'll see you tomorrow for another Daily Quote and hopefully my voice will be back to normal!

These sweet, coconut-based treats are a delightful reminder to savor life's simple pleasures. Just as macaroons offer a burst of flavor and texture in each bite, the smallest indulgences can bring immense joy and satisfaction.Speaking of finding delight in the little things, let's connect that to today's quote from the beloved American author, Kurt Vonnegut, who said: "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you'll look back and realize they were the big things."What a great quote... and it is so true.Vonnegut's wisdom reminds us that it's often the seemingly insignificant moments – a warm smile, a good laugh, or a delicious treat – that become the cherished memories and true riches of our lives. Pablo Picasso – Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up

Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is May 30th.On this day, we celebrate National Creativity Day - a reminder to tap into our imaginative spirits and embrace the art of thinking outside the box. Creativity is the spark that ignites innovation, problem-solving, and the ability to see the world from fresh perspectives.Speaking of fresh perspectives, let's highlight another quote from the visionary artist Pablo Picasso, who boldly stated:"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."Picasso's words challenge us to recapture the boundless creativity and wonder we possessed as children, before societal constraints and fear of judgment stifled our artistic expression. To truly innovate and thrive, we must rediscover that childlike ability to imagine without limits. As you go about your day today, I invite you to approach it with the same unbridled creativity and curiosity as a child finger-painting for the first time. Shed the self-imposed boundaries and doubts that may be holding you back from thinking boldly and originally.Perhaps today is the day you finally pursue that creative passion project you've been dreaming about, whether it's writing, painting, composing music, or exploring any other artistic endeavor. Approach it with the freedom and abandon of a child, unencumbered by expectations or critics.Or maybe you'll simply approach your daily tasks and challenges with a more imaginative and innovative mindset, seeking out creative solutions and perspectives that break the mold of conventional thinking. So why not let your inner child run wild with creativity today?Doodle, daydream, and embrace the power of pure, uninhibited imagination. For it is in these moments of childlike wonder and artistic expression that we unlock our greatest potential for growth, problem-solving, and seeing the world in brilliant new ways. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope this encourages you to rediscover and nurture your innate creativity, just as a child would, knowing that it is this imaginative spirit that allows us to thrive and continually reinvent ourselves.Have a wonderful day, and remember, we are all artists – the key is never losing that childlike ability to create. I guess that is what I'm doing now...

This humble office supply may seem insignificant, but it serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of connection and unity. Just as paperclips bind together sheets of paper, our ability to link ideas, people, and resources is what allows us to achieve great things.Speaking of the strength that comes from connection, let's connect that to today's quote from the legendary anthropologist Margaret Mead, who said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."This is one of my all time favourite quotes!Mead's words are a testament to the incredible power that can arise when individuals unite around a common cause or vision. Just as paperclips may seem small and unassuming, the collective force of passionate people working together has the potential to reshape societies and shift the course of history. As you go about your day today, I invite you to approach it with the same spirit of unity and connection as a handful of paperclips bound together. But what if we applied that same proactive mindset to pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones?Speaking of embracing what scares us, let's connect that to today's quote from Mary Schmich's famous 1997 essay for the Chicago Tribune titled "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young." In it, she writes: "Do one thing every day that scares you. The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself."Schmich's advice is a powerful call to continually challenge ourselves, to not let fear and comfort hold us back from growth and self-discovery. For in the long race of life, the only competitor we must truly outrun is our own self-imposed limitations. As you go about your day today, I invite you to approach it with the same courage and daring as one intentionally doing something that scares them. Take a few moments to identify what makes you uncomfortable, what stretches you, and lean into that fear.Perhaps today is the day you finally take that first step towards a dream that has felt too daunting to pursue. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us."Steinbeck's profound words remind us that the true magic of any journey lies not in our carefully laid plans, but in surrendering to the unpredictable twists and turns that shape us along the way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm buzzing with excitement to have you join me.On this day, we celebrate World Bee Day! This annual event raises awareness about the vital role that bees and other pollinators play in our ecosystems and food supply. Without these incredible insects, we wouldn't have many of the fruits, vegetables, and crops that sustain us.Speaking of the importance of bees, let's connect that to today's quote from the famous naturalist and environmental pioneer, Rachel Carson, who said:"The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination."Just like the winding path a bee takes from flower to flower, Carson reminds us that life's journey is full of twists and turns, each offering valuable lessons if we're open to learning from them.Bees teach us the importance of perseverance, hard work, and the interconnectedness of all living things. As you go about your day today, I invite you to channel the industrious spirit of the bee. Appreciate the small wonders around you, like the intricate patterns on a flower petal or the gentle hum of a bee hard at work. These are the moments that make up the rich tapestry of our life's journey. And why not take a moment to thank the bees for their tireless efforts? Plant some bee-friendly flowers, support local beekeepers, or simply pause to watch these fascinating creatures at work. By doing so, you'll not only be helping to sustain our precious pollinators but also embracing the lessons they offer about living life to the fullest, one sweet step at a time. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope this encourages you to appreciate the journey, just as bees appreciate each flower they visit. Have a wonderful day, and remember, the sweetest lessons often come from the most unexpected places – even a humble bee's flight.

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and this podcast is making me hungy...Because yesterday was National Cheese Souffle Day (Delicious) but today......we celebrate National Devil's Food Cake Day.Yes, you heard that right. Devil's Food Cake, known for its airy, moist texture paired with deep chocolate flavors, might just be the temptation we all need to indulge in a little. So why not give in to a sweet taste today?Speaking of indulgence and temptation, let's connect that to today's quote which is yet another awesome quote by Maya Angelou, who wisely said:"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."Angelou's words remind us that true living happens when we embrace experiences that fill us with awe and wonder, even if they seem a bit daunting at first. As you go through your day today, think about the "Devil's Food Cakes" in your own life. What are the moments or experiences that take your breath away, but you've been holding back from fully savoring?Sometimes, giving in to those breathtaking moments doesn't mean losing control, but rather embracing life fully. And who knows? I'm your host, Andrew McGivern and I hope your hungry and not lactose intolerant because today is National Cheese Souffle Day. A whole day dedicated to celebrating that delightfully light and airy French dish.To mark this fun food holiday, our quote comes from the late, great chef and author Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain had a deep appreciation for food and the cultures surrounding it from his extensive travels. He was known for his candid, irreverent perspective. Here is Anthony Bourdain's insightful quote:"Skills can be taught. Character you either have or you don't have."Bourdain's words highlight an important distinction - technical skills are learnable, but inner character is something we must continually develop from within. When it comes to cooking, recipes and techniques can be studied and practiced. But having the patience, creativity, and passion to become a truly great chef? That's about cultivating the right character traits over time. The same applies to any pursuit in life. We can acquire knowledge and competencies through education and experience. But skills alone aren't enough for fulfillment and mastery. We need qualities like curiosity, determination, integrity, and resilience that shape how we apply those skills. As we go about our day, let's reflect on our own character. What virtues do we need to strengthen? A bit more discipline? Courage? Compassion? By continually developing our core character, we provide fertile ground for our skills to fully blossom and bear fruit. Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote podcast.I hope Anthony Bourdain's perspective inspires you to not just build your skills, but nurture the character traits that will make you exceptional in every endeavor.

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Today is May 17th, and welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and thanks being here today for another quote...Today also marks National Pack Rat Day, a light-hearted holiday that shines a spotlight on all of us who might hold on to things a bit too long. Whether it's old concert tickets, stacks of magazines, or that random collection of hotel key cards, today's the day to acknowledge our little hoards—or as I like to call them, "collections of memories".In the spirit of not letting go, our quote today comes from the insightful Spanish filmmaker, Luis Buñuel, who said: "Age is something that doesn't matter, unless you are a cheese." This quote tickles the funny bone but also digs a bit deeper into today's theme. Just like a good cheese, sometimes the things we keep can mature beautifully, gaining value and meaning over time. However, it's also a nudge to remind us that not everything ages as gracefully—sorry, old tax returns, you're not making the cut. At least not after 7 years...So as we consider our own collections today, think about what items you've been holding onto that might have matured into something more meaningful. And maybe, just maybe, think about what could stand to be cleaned out. After all, every collector knows—the value lies not in the quantity, but in the significance of each piece. Thanks for joining me today on The Daily Quote. May you find joy in the old, value in the kept, and space for the new. Have a fantastic day ahead, and remember, if age doesn’t matter for cheese, maybe we can learn to look at our keepsakes—and ourselves—a bit more kindly.

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today. On May 16th, we celebrate National Love a Tree Day. It’s the day we acknowledge our tall, silent friends who do so much—from cleaning our air to providing homes for countless creatures. Trees have this simple, stoic wisdom about them. They weather storms, adapt to seasons, and grow quietly yet relentlessly. Today’s quote aligns beautifully with this green holiday:"The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn." — Ralph Waldo EmersonEmerson reminds us of the power of potential. Like the humble acorn that holds within it the blueprint for a vast forest, each of us carries immense potential. On Love a Tree Day, let’s not only appreciate the literal trees around us but also consider our own growth. Like trees, our growth might seem slow and unnoticed at times, yet it accumulates into something significant. In nurturing a tree, just as in nurturing our talents, patience is key. It’s about watering, giving it light, but also about letting it face the storms that will strengthen its roots. As we help the trees, we also learn to help ourselves—steadfast, quietly growing, and deeply rooted. So today, perhaps give a tree a little extra love. Water it, plant one, or simply enjoy its shade and think about the seeds of potential you can sow in your own life. After all, we all start as something small, but with the right conditions, who knows how vast a forest we might grow?Thank you for sharing your time with me today. Let's plant some seeds of positivity and growth, and I'll see you tomorrow with another uplifting thought.

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is National Subscribe or Follow the Daily Quote show... a whimisical day where every listener subscribes and shares the show with their friends... just kidding. Not really... On this beautiful day, we also celebrate International Day of Families, a day to reflect on the importance of family, be it the one we're born into or the one we choose. Families are the core of society, providing support, love, and a fair share of unsolicited advice during holiday dinners. Today’s quote ties beautifully into this theme. It comes from Mother Teresa, who said: “What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.”Simple, yet profoundly impactful. In her concise words, Mother Teresa captures the essence of familial love as a cornerstone for broader societal harmony. Each small act of love and care within our families can ripple outwards, influencing communities and beyond. So, as you go about your day today, remember the power you hold in simply cherishing and nurturing your family relationships. Perhaps, in the spirit of today, a call to that family member you haven't spoken to in a while might just be the pebble that sends waves of peace and love further than you can see. Especially if you tell them about the Daily Quote... tee hee. Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. May your day be as enriching as the family ties you cherish and strengthen.

Much like apple pie, the concept of home evokes a sense of warmth, comfort, and belonging. The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Today is May 12th, and welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today. Today, we celebrate National Limerick Day, a fun little holiday that honors those humorous, sometimes nonsensical five-line poems known for their amusing and rhythmic qualities. It's a day to play with words and revel in the joys of a clever rhyme. In the spirit of National Limerick Day, our quote today is by Ogden Nash, a master of wit and wordplay: "A door is what a dog is perpetually on the wrong side of."This quote captures Nash's knack for observing everyday frustrations with a humorous twist, much like a limerick turns ordinary situations into something laughable. Why pair this quote with National Limerick Day? Both Nash's poetry and limericks thrive on a sense of play and a dash of absurdity. They challenge us to see the lighter side of our frustrations and the humor in our routines. Just as a limerick plays with words to land a punchline, Nash’s quote plays with the idea of perspective — the dog’s, the owner’s, and ours as we empathize with both. So today, why not pen your own limerick about the small frustrations in life, or perhaps about your pet's quirky habits? Here’s a quick example to get you started: There once was a dog full of vigor, Who constantly pulled on his trigger. He’d bark at the door, Then flop on the floor, His tail wagging with much bigger vigor. I hope that brings a chuckle and sparks some creativity in your day. Let's remember Ogden Nash’s playful approach to life's little trials and find a way to laugh at our own daily dramas. That’s our show for today. Thank you for joining me, and make sure to tune in tomorrow for more insights wrapped in humor. Keep smiling—it's a natural way to brighten your day and everyone else’s around you!

Marie Kondo - The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474Today is May 10th, and welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today. Today also happens to be National Clean Your Room Day. A day where dust bunnies fear to tread and where under-the-bed monsters must find new homes. Yes, it's the perfect day to finally tackle that mountain of clothes chair or explore the depths of your closet. Why not turn it into a treasure hunt? You might even rediscover that lost sock's long-lost twin. In the spirit of cleaning and clarity, today’s quote comes from the minimalism guru, Marie Kondo. She says, “The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life.” Marie Kondo isn’t just talking about decluttering your physical space. She’s inviting us to declutter our lives. What if today, while you sort through that stack of old magazines or finally decide which of the ten nearly identical black t-shirts you actually wear, you also think about the habits, commitments, and even old ideas you've been holding onto? Which of these bring you joy or serve your purpose? On National Clean Your Room Day, let’s take a cue from Marie Kondo. Let’s look around and within, and ask ourselves about the things we choose to keep in our lives and our hearts. Does it spark joy? Does it help you live the life you want? If not, maybe it's time to let it go. Thanks for joining me today, and I hope this episode inspires you to clean out not just your room, but also any clutter holding you back. Let’s make room for the new, for peace, and for joy. Have a fantastic day, and remember, every day holds the possibility of a miracle.
