The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT MEWelcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is August 17th...Now, today is a special day, and not just because it's another beautiful Saturday in August. It's World Honeybee Day, a day dedicated to one of the smallest but mightiest creatures on our planet—the honeybee. You might not think much of these little insects as they buzz around, but they play an outsized role in our ecosystem and our daily lives. To highlight just how important honeybees are, I’ve chosen a quote from Albert Einstein. It’s a quote that has become somewhat famous, and though its authenticity is debated, the truth it holds is undeniable. Einstein is said to have warned:"If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left."Now, that’s a heavy thought, isn’t it? Now I usually shy away from doom and gloom prognostications... Four years!Wow! But let’s unpack this a bit, because this quote, whether Einstein’s or not, captures the essence of why bees—especially honeybees—are so vital to our survival.Honeybees are the ultimate unsung heroes of the natural world. These tiny, tireless workers pollinate about one-third of the food we eat. That’s right, one out of every three bites of food you take depends on a honeybee doing its job. They don’t just give us honey, they make sure our fruits, vegetables, and even nuts are able to grow. But it’s not just about food. Honeybees contribute to the beauty of our world as well. The flowers in your garden, the blossoms on the trees, the very landscapes we cherish—they all owe a debt to the humble honeybee. Without their pollination, many of the plants we love would struggle to survive. So, as we celebrate World Honeybee Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate these tiny insects and the monumental impact they have on our lives. Einstein’s quote reminds us of the fragility of our ecosystem and how interconnected we all are. The survival of bees is tied to our own survival. By protecting them, we’re not just saving a species—we’re safeguarding our future. There is an urban beekeeping movement that is helping to re-establish the honey bee population and ensuring that bee colonies continue to thrive. And there is also an industry that breeds colonies for rent to big agriculture to polinate fruit trees and other cash crops.Today, let’s take a moment to recognize the beauty in the small things, the power in the seemingly insignificant, and the importance of every tiny bee that makes our world a little bit sweeter.Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I’m Andrew McGivern, and I look forward to sharing more insights with you tomorrow. Until then, keep buzzing with positivity, and remember—every small action can make a big buzz.

Brené Brown - Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT MEWelcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is August 16th.Today is National Authenticity Day, a day that invites us to embrace our true selves without pretense or masks. In a world that often pushes us to conform, authenticity is the quiet yet powerful act of being yourself. This day reminds us that there’s no greater gift you can give the world than the unique story only you can tell. So, in honor of National Authenticity Day, I’ve chosen a quote from Brené Brown, who has spent her life studying courage, vulnerability, and the importance of being genuine. She once said:"Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are."There’s a story behind this quote, and it’s one you might know all too well. It’s the story of the masks we wear, the expectations we carry, and the quiet voice inside us that often gets drowned out by the noise of the world.Imagine for a moment that you’re at a crowded party. Everyone’s dressed to impress, engaged in conversations that sound more like performances than exchanges. You’re there, but you’re not really present. Instead, you’re thinking about what you should say, how you should act, or even how you should stand. All these thoughts are like a script you’ve been handed, telling you how to fit in. But the problem with scripts is that they’re not your words—they’re someone else’s idea of who you should be.Now, think about the person at that party who isn’t following the script. They might be the one in the corner, quietly sipping a drink, or the one telling a story that’s a little too real for the setting. They’re not concerned with fitting in, and maybe that makes them stand out. But here’s the thing: they’re real, and that’s magnetic. You find yourself drawn to them, not because they’re the loudest or the most polished, but because they’re authentic. They’re not pretending.Brené Brown’s quote reminds you that being authentic is a practice—a choice you make daily. It’s about letting go of the need to please, to perform, to be perfect. It’s about trusting that who you are, in all your messy, beautiful imperfection, is enough. It’s the story of stepping out of the crowd and into your own light, even when that light doesn’t look like anyone else’s.Authenticity is brave. It’s saying, "This is who I am," even when you’re not sure if anyone else will understand. And the truth is, not everyone will. But those who do—those who see you for who you are—are the ones who matter. They’re the ones who will help you write your story, not with scripts and expectations, but with truth and love.As you go through today, take a moment to pause and ask yourself: Are you living according to your own story, or someone else’s? Are you being true to yourself, or are you playing a role that doesn’t quite fit? Remember, National Authenticity Day isn’t just about celebrating who you are; it’s about practicing it—every single day.And before I let you go, I can’t forget to mention that it’s also National Tell a Joke Day. So, in the spirit of authenticity, here’s a joke that’s as genuine as it gets—straight from the Dad Joke Hall of Fame:Why don’t skeletons fight each other?Because...

Winston Churchill - The price of greatness is responsibility

Winston Churchill - The price of greatness is responsibility

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT MEWelcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is August 15th.Now, what if I told you that today isn't just any ordinary day? No, today is World Greatness Day—a day set aside to celebrate the remarkable potential within each of us, a day to recognize that greatness isn’t reserved for the chosen few. Instead, it’s within reach of anyone willing to chase it, fight for it, and, most importantly, believe in it.And that leads us to today’s quote, a perfect reflection of what greatness truly means from Winston Churchill."The price of greatness is responsibility."Now, let’s unpack that a bit.Greatness, as we often think of it, tends to be something we associate with the loud, the large, and the legendary. We think of the Winston Churchills, the Martin Luther Kings, the great one- Wayne Gretzky's, the Marie Curies of the world. And lets not forget about the ROCK who was also called the great one.And while it’s true, these figures left an indelible mark on history, the story of greatness is often told through smaller, quieter moments—moments of responsibility.Winston Churchill, the man who delivered this quote, understood greatness in a way few others did. He knew it wasn’t about the fanfare or the accolades. It wasn’t about being the most powerful person in the room, although he often was. Instead, it was about carrying the weight of that power with a sense of duty, a sense of responsibility.Picture this: it’s 1940, and the world is engulfed in war. The future looks uncertain, and hope seems like a distant memory. Churchill, newly appointed as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is faced with an unthinkable task—to lead his country through the darkest hours, knowing that every decision, every word, could mean the difference between victory and defeat. In those moments, Churchill’s greatness wasn’t defined by his position but by his unwavering sense of responsibility to his people, to his nation, and to the future. It wasn’t about making the easy choices. It was about making the right ones, even when they were the hardest. Greatness, in this sense, becomes less about glory and more about grit. It’s about understanding that true greatness isn’t handed to you—it’s something you earn, step by step, by owning your actions, your words, and their consequences. Now, you might be wondering, how does this apply to you on World Greatness Day? After all, you’re probably not leading a country through a world war, right? But here’s the thing—greatness doesn’t always wear a crown. Sometimes, it’s as simple as showing up when it matters most, making the tough choices, or standing by your principles when it would be easier to back down. It’s about being the kind of person who doesn’t shy away from responsibility, but rather, embraces it.Take a moment today to think about your own life. What responsibilities do you carry? How do they shape the person you are and the person you’re becoming? Greatness doesn’t have to mean fame or fortune. It can be found in the quiet moments of integrity, in the way you handle adversity, or in the kindness you offer to others, even when it goes unnoticed. So today, on World Greatness Day, I challenge you to redefine what greatness...

Aesop - Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Aesop - Slow and Steady Wins the Race

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT MEWelcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is August 14th...Today’s national holiday is one you might not have expected to hear about—World Lizard Day. Yes, you heard that right. A day dedicated to celebrating those scaly, sometimes sly, and always intriguing reptiles that have slithered or scurried their way into myths, movies, and even some people’s hearts. Now, before you start wondering how on earth lizards relate to your day, let me share a quote that I think ties it all together. It’s from Aesop, the ancient Greek fabulist, who knew a thing or two about the animal kingdom and the lessons it could teach us. He said:"Slow but steady wins the race."Aesop’s fable of the tortoise and the hare is a story we’ve all heard, but what if I told you that a lizard might just embody that moral even better? Think about it. Lizards are creatures of patience, resilience, and persistence. They don’t rush. They don’t panic. They adapt, blend in, wait for the right moment, and then, with precision, they make their move.On this World Lizard Day, let’s look beyond the scales and the flicking tongues. Imagine the lizard, sunning itself on a rock, seemingly motionless, yet always aware, always ready. It’s not in a hurry, but when it decides to act, it’s swift and decisive. It reminds us that sometimes, the best way to tackle the challenges of our own lives is not with speed, but with strategy. Not with haste, but with thoughtful persistence. In our fast-paced world, where everyone seems to be running a race, chasing the next big thing, trying to outpace the competition, maybe what we need is a bit more lizard-like wisdom. Maybe we should slow down, take a moment to bask in the sun, and consider our next move carefully. We don’t always have to be the fastest. We don’t always have to be first. We just have to keep moving, steadily, purposefully, in the direction that feels right for us.So today, as you go about your day, take a cue from our reptilian friends. Be patient. Be observant. And when the time is right, make your move with confidence. Whether you’re tackling a big project, working through a problem, or just trying to figure out the next step in your journey, remember that slow but steady does indeed win the race. And hey, if you happen to see a lizard today, give it a little nod. It just might be the wisest creature you encounter. And one more thing... Today also happens to be a special day local to where I live... there is a restaurant here in my area called Whitespot that has these cool Pirate Packs - which is a pirate ship with a burger, fries and chocolate coin... I think they throw in a desert too... its a good deal but unfortunately it is only for kids... Except for August 14th - on this day adults can have a pirate pack too! So that is where I'll be later today.Thank you for spending a few minutes with me today on The Daily Quote. I hope this story about lizards and a simple quote from Aesop has given you something to think about as you navigate your own path.Until next time, take it slow, but keep moving forward and I'll see again tomorrow for another daily quote!

Maya Angelou – I sustain myself with the love of family

Maya Angelou – I sustain myself with the love of family

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT MEWelcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is August 13th.On this beautiful day, we celebrate Women’s and Family Day. It’s a time to honor the incredible strength, resilience, and love that women bring into our lives, and to recognize the importance of family in all its forms. Whether you're thinking of your mother, sister, partner, or your own chosen family, today is a day to reflect on those relationships that shape us into who we are. This brings us to today’s quote by the legendary Maya Angelou: "I sustain myself with the love of family."Angelou, in her infinite wisdom, captures the essence of what keeps us going even in the toughest of times. Family, in all its wonderful complexity, is more than just blood relations. It’s the people who hold you up when you feel like you can’t stand on your own. It’s the laughter around the dinner table, the silent support in moments of despair, and the collective memory of shared experiences.Imagine a quilt, each square representing a different part of your life. Some are bright and colorful, stitched with moments of joy and celebration, while others are darker, sewn with threads of struggle and pain. But it’s the stitching that holds it all together, binding each piece to the next. That stitching is the love of family. Now, not every family looks the same. For some, family is the one you’re born into; for others, it’s the one you choose. But the beauty of Angelou's quote is its simplicity and universality. We all have a need to belong, to be part of something larger than ourselves. It’s this connection that sustains us, that feeds our souls and keeps us moving forward. On Women’s and Family Day, we celebrate those who are the backbone of our families—often the women who, with quiet strength, manage to hold everything together. Think of your own life. How many times has a woman—be it your mother, grandmother, sister, or friend—been there to pick you up when you fell, to listen when you needed to talk, or to simply stand by your side when the world felt overwhelming?Maya Angelou herself was a beacon of strength, a woman who overcame immense adversity to become a voice for so many. Her words remind us that love, especially the love we find in our families, is a powerful force. It’s what keeps us going when the going gets tough. It’s what fills our hearts when they feel empty. And it’s what gives us the courage to face each new day with hope.So today, on Women’s and Family Day, take a moment to reach out to those who sustain you. Send a message, make a call, or if you're lucky enough to be with them, share a hug. Let them know how much their love means to you, how it stitches together the fabric of your life. And with that, I wish you a day filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of family. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. Until next time, keep those connections strong and your heart open.

Bob Marley - One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT MEWelcome to The Daily Quote —a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, and it is August 12th today.. August 12th happens to be National Vinyl Record Day! This day celebrates the classic and beloved medium that, for many, brings back the golden days of music. There’s something nostalgic about the crackle and pop of a vinyl record spinning on a turntable, reminding you that not everything needs to be perfect to be beautiful. Today’s holiday is a nod to those who appreciate the authentic sound of music, where imperfections only add character. In the spirit of National Vinyl Record Day, let’s turn the volume up on today’s quote. It’s from the legendary singer-songwriter Bob Marley, who once said: "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." Isn’t that the truth? Marley’s words remind you of the power music holds, much like those old vinyl records we’re celebrating today. It’s a force that can transport you to a different time and place, heal your wounds, and bring joy even on the toughest days. Music has this uncanny ability to touch your soul without causing any harm, even when life itself can be a little rough around the edges. Just as a vinyl record captures the authentic, raw essence of sound, Marley’s quote captures the essence of music’s impact on you. When you’re feeling down, stressed, or just need an escape, music is there to lift you up, even if only for a moment. It’s a reminder that sometimes the best way to deal with the noise of life is to let the music play and drown out the chaos, if only for a song or two. So today, why not pull out a vinyl record, if you’ve got one, or stream a classic album? Let yourself get lost in the music, let it hit you in all the right ways, and enjoy the beauty of imperfection. That’s all for today’s episode. Remember, every scratch on a vinyl tells a story, just like every challenge in life. Thanks for spending part of your day with me here at The Daily Quote. I’m Andrew McGivern, reminding you to keep the music playing and to embrace every note life throws your way. Have a great day, and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Matsuo Basho - Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home

Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is August 11th...The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT METoday is National Mountain Day? What???Your kidding right?Let me double check this...I've got to say this quite the coincidence. Yesterday being S'mores day while I'm camping in the wilderness and now today is National Mountain Day – quite literally. I’m out here camping in the mountains, surrounded by towering peaks, pine-scented air, and the sounds of nature all around me. It’s only fitting, because that today is Mountain Day, a day that celebrates the beauty and majesty of these natural giants. And yes... I've confirmed it is National Mountain Day but I just noticed that it is also National Son and Daughter day. And our son and daughters are also here camping in the mountains after carrying heavy backpacks that are almost as big as they are!Happy Son and Daughter Day kiddos... great work. There’s something about being in the mountains that puts everything into perspective. Maybe it’s the way they make you feel small in the grand scheme of things, or the way they remind you of how life itself is a series of climbs, sometimes steep and exhausting, but always rewarding when you reach a new height. It got me thinking about a quote by the poet Matsuo Basho, who once said, “Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.”Out here, far from the noise and rush of everyday life, that quote resonates deeply. The mountains have a way of stripping away the unimportant and bringing you back to what really matters. It’s not just about where you’re headed, but about the path you’re on right now – the journey itself.Mountain Day reminds us to appreciate the climb, the struggles, and the beauty that comes with it. Just like in life, every mountain you face has its challenges, but it’s also filled with moments of awe, peace, and clarity. Being here, surrounded by such raw and untouched beauty, makes you realize that the journey is the destination. The mountains teach us that there’s value in every step, every pause to catch your breath, and every view that takes it away.So today, whether you’re in the mountains or just dreaming of them, remember that every day is a journey. Embrace the climb, find joy in the challenges, and know that in this moment, wherever you are, you’re already home. And although I do appreciate the deep meaning of that quote... I can't wait to get to may actually home for a real bed. Man... will I sleep well tonight!Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I’m Andrew McGivern, and I’ll be back tomorrow with another thought to guide your day. Until then, take a deep breath, enjoy the journey, and find your own mountain to climb.

John Muir - The mountains are calling and I must go

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT METoday is August 10th, and welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today. Now, I’ve got some sweet news to share – today is National S'mores Day! Whether you’re a camping enthusiast or just someone with a sweet tooth, there’s no denying the simple joy of roasting marshmallows over a crackling fire, sandwiching them between graham crackers with a square of chocolate, and biting into that gooey, delicious mess. It’s one of those nostalgic treats that bring back memories of summer nights under the stars, sharing stories, and laughing around the campfire. Even if you’re not near a campsite today, there’s no rule against making some s’mores in the comfort of your own kitchen – just don’t let anyone catch you roasting marshmallows over a candle!Well, I will be near a campsite today... in fact - I'm going camping. And not your usual pull your car into a site and set up camping. No... we are hiking 10 kilometrage into the mountains and setting up camp on a ice cold river's beach. It has been a looong time since I've gone hiking with a tent and sleeping bag and food on my back.It sounds like fun... right?? In the spirit of National S'mores Day and all the outdoor adventures that come with it, I’ve chosen a quote that perfectly captures the essence of why we venture into the wilderness, leaving the comforts of home behind. This one’s from writer and environmentalist John Muir, who famously said, “The mountains are calling and I must go.”John Muir wasn’t just talking about a physical journey into the mountains. His words resonate with that deep, almost primal urge we sometimes feel to disconnect from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with something simpler, something more natural. The mountains, forests, and campfires draw us out not just to escape, but to find a part of ourselves that can sometimes get lost in the shuffle of daily responsibilities.Think about the act of making s'mores. It’s not just about the sweet treat at the end – it’s the process, the patience, the gentle rotating of the marshmallow to get that perfect golden brown, the anticipation as the chocolate melts just right. It’s a simple pleasure that’s magnified by the environment you’re in – the fresh air, the open sky, and the shared experience with those around you. Just like the mountains call to Muir, s’mores call to us – reminding us to savor life’s little joys, to gather with loved ones, and to find contentment in simplicity.Ahhh... I love S'mores. but unfortunately for us there is a fire ban and we won't be able to have a fire at our campsite. And I don't think I'd want to pack logs of firewood for 10 km either. So I won't be enjoying a S'More today. But I think I can find room for a can of IPA and don't worry... it will be cold. Remember the ice cold river I mentioned. I love cold plunges and cold IPA. So, enough about me... what about YOU! Maybe today’s the day to answer the call – whether it’s a quick hike, a backyard campout, or just taking a moment to enjoy a s’more. These small, intentional acts can ground us, bring us peace, and remind us of the beauty that’s all around us – sometimes in the most unexpected places. As you go about your day, let John Muir’s words echo in your...

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, with another daily quote for August 9th... Did you know that today is National Book Lovers Day? It's a day dedicated to celebrating the joy and enrichment that books bring to our lives. Whether you're a fan of fiction, non-fiction, mysteries, or romance, today is the perfect day to dive into a new story or revisit an old favorite. In honor of National Book Lovers Day, I've chosen a quote by none other than Walt Disney. He once said, "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates’ loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life." Disney’s words remind us that books are a treasure trove of knowledge, adventure, and imagination. Unlike pirate loot, which can be spent and lost, the wealth found in books is inexhaustible and can be enjoyed repeatedly. Every time you open a book, you uncover new insights, experience different emotions, and embark on unique journeys. And the best part? This treasure is available to you every single day. Beyond the joy of reading, books also offer significant health benefits. According to a study at the University of Sussex, people only needed to read, silently, for six minutes to slow down their heart rate and ease tension in their muscles. That's right, just six minutes of reading can help you relax and unwind, almost like a mini-meditation session. But that's not all. A study at UC Berkeley and the University of Toronto found that those who read a lot will enhance their verbal intelligence, essentially making them smarter. They emphasized the importance of getting children off to an early successful start in reading, underscoring how crucial reading is for cognitive development. And here's a fascinating finding from Yale University: a study followed 3,635 participants for 12 years and concluded that book readers had a 23-month survival advantage and experienced a 20% reduction in risk of mortality over the 12 years of follow-up compared to non-book readers. In other words, reading books can actually help you live longer! So, today, in honor of National Book Lovers Day, I encourage you to pick up a book you've been meaning to read or revisit an old favorite. Let yourself get lost in its pages and see where the journey takes you. Remember, every book you read is a new treasure to be discovered, enriching your mind and your life in countless ways. Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I hope this episode has inspired you to celebrate the joy and benefits of reading. Until next time, keep exploring, keep imagining, and keep reading. Have a wonderful day!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern here with another daily quote for August 8th.Did you know that today is National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Day?Yes, you heard that right! It’s the day when you can channel your inner vegetable ninja and leave those green goodies on unsuspecting doorsteps. I can only imagine the shock and awe of finding a zucchini where you least expect it. It’s a quirky and fun way to share the harvest, especially if your garden is overflowing with these versatile veggies. In light of today’s whimsical holiday, I’ve chosen a quote from Oprah Winfrey, who once said... “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” Let’s explore how this quote connects to our stealthy zucchini deliveries. In our busy lives, we often forget to celebrate the little things. National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Day is a perfect example of how we can add a bit of fun and unexpected joy into our daily routines. It's a day that encourages us to share our abundance and find delight in the simplest of acts of giving.By sneaking a zucchini onto your neighbor’s porch, you’re not just sharing your harvest; you’re creating a moment of surprise and laughter. It’s a reminder to appreciate the quirky, fun moments that life offers us. Oprah’s words remind us that when we take time to celebrate these small joys, we enrich our lives and the lives of those around us.It is like on the Oprah Winfrey Show, she suddenly announces that everyone in the room is getting a new car... but instead of new car they get a zuchinni on their porch! So, as you go about your day, think about how you can add a little extra celebration into it. Whether it’s sneaking a zucchini onto a neighbor’s porch or finding another creative way to spread joy, remember that these small acts can make a big difference. They bring smiles, laughter, and a sense of community.I get the giving part but I don't quite understand the sneaking part... I mean you could just ask your neighbor if they would like some zuchinni... and if they would give them some. That makes more sense then sneaking up to their door with a bundle of zuchinnis. But I guess the point is to be anonymous so you don't invoke the reciprocity principle and so that your neighbor is surprised and gets a good laugh that the zuchinni fairy dropped by... That's all for today. Go out there and make someone’s day with a little green surprise, and don't forget to celebrate the little moments that make life special. This has been The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern signing off for today, reminding you that even the smallest act can leave a big impact. Have a great day and I'll see you again tomorrow with another daily quote.

Or when you buy a pair of headphones and spend twenty minutes wrestling with layers of plastic that could probably withstand a nuclear blast. It’s a day to laugh at the absurdity and maybe even send a gentle reminder to companies everywhere: let's dial it down a bit, shall we? Now, onto our quote of the day, from the legendary soccer star David Beckham, who once said..."I always say that practice gets you to the top most of the time."Beckham’s words remind us that behind every great achievement lies a commitment to the small, daily efforts that build up over time. When you think about Particularly Preposterous Packaging Day, it really highlights the contrast. We often find ourselves opening gigantic boxes only to find a small, precious item inside. This is a humorous reminder that sometimes, the grandiosity of the packaging can make the small treasure inside even more delightful. The irony isn’t lost here: while the packaging can be preposterous, the content—no matter how small—can be incredibly valuable. Beckham's quote fits perfectly with this theme. It's the small, consistent practices—the seemingly insignificant details—that lead to significant success when compounded over time. Just as a small, well-crafted item might come in an overly large box, great achievements are often the result of small, diligent efforts. Let’s take this to heart in our daily lives. Sometimes we focus too much on the 'packaging' of our lives—our appearances, our social media profiles, the way others perceive us. But it's often the small, genuine moments and acts of kindness that carry the most value. A smile from a stranger, a heartfelt compliment, or even a small gesture of help can make a big difference. So, on Particularly Preposterous Packaging Day, let’s celebrate the little things. Remember, it's not the size of the package, but the quality of what’s inside that truly matters. And if you find yourself surrounded by layers of bubble wrap and oversized boxes, take a moment to laugh at the absurdity and appreciate the good things—no matter how small—they contain. You don't need a preposterous package to be great... David Bekham says you need practice and determination. That's all for today's episode of The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern signing off and thanking you for spending a part of your day with me. Remember to appreciate the small gestures in life and have a wonderful day ahead. See you tomorrow for another daily quote!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is August 6th. On this day, we celebrate National Wiggle Your Toes Day. Yes, it's a day dedicated to giving those often-neglected toes a little wiggle and appreciating the small joys in life. So, kick off your shoes, give those toes a wiggle, and feel the simple pleasure it brings. Now, onto today's quote. We have another one from American author and motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, who once said..."Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude."It's a classic reminder that how you approach life can often be more important than your natural abilities. Think about it—ever known someone who wasn't necessarily the most skilled, but their enthusiasm and positive outlook made them soar? That's the magic of attitude. Let’s connect the dots between wiggling your toes and a great attitude. Ok... I'll be the first to admit that this is kind of silly. But that didn't stop me from wiggling my toes today.Wiggling your toes is a small act, often overlooked, much like the little choices we make every day. Just as wiggling your toes can bring a surprising amount of joy, a positive attitude can bring unexpected opportunities and happiness. Sometimes, it's the small things that can have a big impact.Did you know that wiggling your toes can increase blood circulation in your feet. It can help strengthen your toes giving you better balance and reduce risk of injury. So today, as you take a moment to wiggle your toes, think about how you can bring that same light-hearted, positive energy to your day. Approach challenges with a smile, and remember that a positive attitude can help you rise above any obstacles. And don't forget to enjoy the little things—they often hold the most joy. Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. Remember, every day is a chance to wiggle your toes, smile, and aim high. I'm Andrew McGivern, wishing you a fantastic day ahead. See you tomorrow!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is August 5th.Let's dive right in. Today is National Oyster Day! Yes, you heard that right—it's a day dedicated to celebrating those delicious little mollusks that many people either love or love to hate. Whether you prefer them raw, fried, or in a rich, creamy soup, today is the day to appreciate the oyster in all its glory. Now, onto the quote of the day. Today's quote comes from the brilliant filmmaker Federico Fellini, who said, "All art is autobiographical; the pearl is the oyster’s autobiography."What a fascinating perspective, right? Fellini is reminding you that art, in its many forms, is a reflection of the creator. Just as a pearl is formed through the life and experiences of an oyster, art is shaped by the artist’s own life and experiences. So, how does this relate to you on National Oyster Day? Well, think about the "pearls" you are creating in your life. Every challenge you overcome, every new skill you learn, every relationship you nurture—these are all parts of your personal story, your own autobiography. Much like the oyster, you might have to deal with a bit of grit and irritation to produce something beautiful and unique.Consider how your daily actions and choices contribute to your life's art. Are you working on a project that reflects your true self? Are you nurturing relationships that add value and depth to your life? Are you facing challenges head-on, knowing that they will shape your story in meaningful ways?In the spirit of National Oyster Day, take a moment to appreciate the pearls in your life. They may not always be immediately visible, but they are there, formed by your experiences and efforts. And remember, just as every oyster's pearl is unique, so is the art you create through living your life authentically. Now, here’s a little dry humor to bring it all together: Why did the oyster refuse to share its pearl? Because it was a little shellfish!Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope today’s episode has inspired you to see the art in your own life and to appreciate the unique pearls you are creating. I'm Andrew McGivern, and I look forward to having you with me again tomorrow. For another pearl of a quote.. but to get the pearl you have to put up with the irritation of me asking you to follow or subscribe in your podcast app... do it now because... you are awesome! The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT METoday is August 4th, and welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today.Did you know that today is National Watermelon Day? Yes, that juicy, refreshing fruit that’s a staple at summer picnics and barbecues has its own special day. So, if you needed an excuse to indulge in a slice or two, now you have it!Our quote for today comes from Wally Amos.Wally Amos is an American entrepreneur, author, and television personality best known for founding the Famous Amos chocolate chip cookie brand. Amos overcame a challenging childhood to become a talent agent, where he discovered and signed major acts like Simon & Garfunkel. In 1975, he turned his passion for baking into a business, opening the first Famous Amos cookie store in Los Angeles. Amos remained a prominent motivational speaker and advocate for literacy, leveraging his fame to inspire others and promote reading through his foundation, the Cookie Kahuna.Wally Amos once said..."If you focus on only the seeds in a watermelon, you miss the sweetness of the meat."Wally Amos’s words offer a simple yet profound piece of wisdom. It's easy to get bogged down by the little annoyances in life, those proverbial seeds, and forget to appreciate the good parts—the sweet, juicy meat of the watermelon.Consider how this applies to our daily lives. We often find ourselves fixating on minor inconveniences: a traffic jam, a slight delay in our plans, or even a minor disagreement. These are the seeds that, while a part of the whole, are not the main experience. If we spend all our time worrying about them, we lose sight of the bigger picture and miss out on the sweetness life has to offer.Think about National Watermelon Day itself. The watermelon, with its bright red, juicy center, is a symbol of summer’s joy and refreshment. Yes, it has seeds, but when we bite into a slice, we savor the sweetness and often find the seeds easy to navigate around or remove. It’s about enjoying the good parts and not letting the small inconveniences spoil the experience. So, today, take a moment to shift your focus. When you encounter those little seeds of irritation or stress, remember Wally Amos’s words. Look past them and appreciate the sweetness in your life. It could be a beautiful day, a moment with a loved one, or even just the satisfaction of completing a task. And as you savor a slice of watermelon today, let it be a reminder to enjoy the sweetness of the moment, seeds and all.Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, and I look forward to being with you again tomorrow. Focus on the sweetness, not the seeds, and have a delightful day!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today.Today is Big Forehead Day. Yes, you heard that right. It's a day to celebrate those expansive, thought-provoking, and sometimes gloriously shiny expanses of skin we call our foreheads. Whether your forehead is broad, high, or just the right size, today we honor it.In the spirit of Big Forehead Day, I've chosen a quote that brings a bit of humor to the topic of foreheads and what often accompanies them: male pattern baldness. It’s from the comedian Larry David, who once said,"Anyone can be confident with a full head of hair. But a confident bald man – there's your diamond in the rough."Let's think about that for a moment. Hair or no hair, confidence is key. And those who can rock a bald head or a big forehead with confidence? They're truly something special. Larry David is known for his sharp wit and self-deprecating humor, and this quote is a perfect example. It highlights that true confidence comes from within, not from what’s on top of our heads. So, on this Big Forehead Day, embrace your forehead, whether it's big, small, or somewhere in between. If you're dealing with a bit of baldness, take a page from Larry David's book and wear it with pride. After all, it's not about the hair you have, but the head you keep it on.Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, reminding you to face the day with confidence, no matter the size of your forehead. Have a great day, and I'll see you tomorrow with another quote to inspire your day.

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and it is August 2nd......International Beer Day, a celebration dedicated to one of humanity's oldest and most beloved beverages. Whether you enjoy a crisp lager, a hoppy IPA, or a rich stout, today is the perfect excuse to savor a cold one and appreciate the craftsmanship behind every brew. Now I know that just yesterday was National IPA Day and I enjoyed a pint of one of my favourite local IPA's - Steamworks Flagship IPA.And today we are going international... there are many great beers from around the world! In honor of International Beer Day, today's quote comes from the legendary journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson, who said,"Good people drink good beer."Hunter S. Thompson was known for his fearless and unconventional lifestyle, and his quote encapsulates the idea that the quality of what we consume reflects the quality of our character. When you think about it, beer is more than just a drink; it’s a symbol of camaraderie, celebration, and the simple pleasures in life.Picture yourself at a local brewery, surrounded by friends, each of you holding a glass of your favorite brew. There's a sense of connection, a shared experience that transcends the mundane. Good beer, much like good people, brings warmth, joy, and a touch of magic to our lives. So, today, as you raise your glass to toast International Beer Day, remember Hunter S. Thompson’s words. Choose a beer that speaks to you, that reflects your taste and personality. Whether it's a complex craft beer or a straightforward classic, let it be a testament to your appreciation for the finer things in life. And if beer isn’t your beverage of choice, the sentiment still holds true: surround yourself with good things and good people. Life is too short to settle for anything less.Speaking of international beer... my wife if from France so we have been visiting France for years. And in the grocery store there were isles and isles of wine and tiny weenie beer section with some heinekan, leff, and few French beers like 1664. I used to dread going to the beer section over there as I like to think I'm a good person... who drinks good beer.Well, a few years ago I went to the tiny weenie beer section thinking okay what do they have and as my eye drifted to the left down the isle it was a never ending selection of beer. I looked up at the sign which read... bier artisan.... Eureka.. the craft beer movement has finally arrived in France. So of course I wanted to try them ALL... so for the rest of our vacation and all of our trips to France since... I've been sampling the varied and delicious bier artisan de France.Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope today's reflection brought a smile to your face and perhaps a new appreciation for the humble beer. Enjoy your day, and remember, as you navigate through life, choose quality and goodness in all that you do.I'm Andrew McGivern, and I look forward to sharing more moments with you tomorrow. Cheers!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and it's August 1st...Today is National India Pale Ale Day and World Wide Web Day. Quite the combination, don't you think? On one hand, we have a day dedicated to a craft beer favorite, the India Pale Ale, known for its bold flavors and hoppy goodness. On the other, we have a celebration of the invention that revolutionized communication, information, and quite frankly, procrastination – the World Wide Web.As you sip on your IPA and surf the web today, consider this quote from Tim Berners-Lee, the man credited with inventing the World Wide Web:“The Web does not just connect machines, it connects people.”Think about it – much like how an IPA brings together hops, barley, water, and yeast to create something greater than the sum of its parts, the Web brings together people from all corners of the globe, connecting us in ways previously unimaginable. Just as a good IPA might surprise you with its complexity and richness, the Web has an endless depth of knowledge, creativity, and connection.I remember back in the early days of the world wide web, being absolutely amazed that I could connect with people around the world that share the same niche interests that I have... it blew me away! Now, I know what you’re thinking – what do beer and the internet really have in common? Well, for one, both can lead you down some pretty unexpected rabbit holes. Ever start with just one glass of IPA and end up sampling a flight of craft brews? Or start with one quick search on the Web and end up watching cat videos for hours? Both are experiences that show how one thing can lead to another in surprising and delightful ways.So today, as you raise a toast with your favorite IPA, take a moment to appreciate the connectivity of the Web. Celebrate how it allows you to discover new beers, join online communities of fellow beer enthusiasts, or even find the best IPA pairings with your dinner tonight. It’s a testament to how intertwined our lives have become with this digital wonder. And coincidentally (or not) it is also Spider Man day today... I mean spiderman is associated with webs and he is quite hoppy. So it fits in... maybe?Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. Enjoy your IPA, surf the Web, and remember, in the words of Tim Berners-Lee,"The Web does not just connect machines, it connects people." Here's to connections, both digital and personal. Cheers!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and...Today, we have a very magical holiday to celebrate. It's Harry Potter's birthday! Yes, the Boy Who Lived, the Chosen One, the wizard who taught us the power of friendship and bravery. J.K. Rowling brought this beloved character to life and he’s been enchanting us ever since. It is also somone else's birthday today... a much less notable muggle but he will not be named. To honor Harry's birthday, I’ve chosen a quote from the series that really captures the essence of his journey. Sirius Black once said,"We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are."This quote is from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and it’s a powerful reminder that everyone has a choice. We all face moments where we could take the easy path or the right path, and it’s those decisions that define our character.Harry's story is full of these critical choices. From standing up to bullies at Hogwarts to facing Voldemort, Harry consistently chooses to act on the light within him. It’s not that he’s without fear or flaws, but rather that he makes a conscious effort to do what is right, even when it’s difficult.Sirius's words remind us that no one is perfect. We all have our struggles, our moments of doubt, and our temptations. But what truly defines us is how we respond to those moments. Will we let our darker impulses take over, or will we strive to act with kindness, courage, and integrity? As you go through your day today, think about the choices you make. It could be something as small as offering a smile to a stranger or as significant as standing up for what you believe in. Each choice shapes who you are and the impact you have on the world. And remember, even wizards like Harry and Sirius faced their own struggles and doubts. So, give yourself some grace. It's okay to stumble, as long as you keep aiming for the light.I read all the Harry Potter books and of course watched the movies too and now my kids are really into Harry Potter too. They are reading each book multiple times and they don't get tired of the story. I'm looking forward to the Harry Potter movie!Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. Whether you're a parent yourself, reflecting on your own upbringing, or simply acknowledging the parents around you, this day is all about gratitude and love for those who guide us through life's journey. Our quote today comes from the American writer and poet, Robert Brault:"A parent's love is whole no matter how many times divided."This beautiful quote captures the boundless and unwavering nature of a parent's love. Parenting is often seen as a balancing act, a constant juggle of responsibilities, emotions, and time. Each child brings their unique challenges and joys, yet a parent's love remains undivided and whole, no matter how stretched they may feel.Think about the parents who seem to be everywhere at once: attending school plays, coaching soccer games, helping with homework, and managing to have a family dinner on the table. It might seem like they possess superhuman abilities, but at the heart of it all is their infinite capacity for love. Each act of care and support, big or small, is an expression of that whole and complete love.Even when parents are pulled in multiple directions, their love doesn't diminish with each additional child or each new challenge. Instead, it grows, adapting and expanding to meet the needs of their family. Robert Brault's words remind us of this remarkable truth – that a parent's love is a constant force, unwavering and all-encompassing, no matter the circumstances. On National Parents' Day, let's celebrate this extraordinary love. If you're a parent, take pride in the endless reservoir of love you share with your children. If you're not a parent, think about the parents in your life and acknowledge the incredible dedication and love they pour into their families every day.Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. It's a day to embrace a "no regrets" mentality and give it your all, whatever "it" might be for you.In the spirit of this day, I've chosen a quote that perfectly encapsulates the essence of going all in. This one comes from the visionary entrepreneur Elon Musk. He once said:“When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.”Think about that for a moment. When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor. This quote reminds us that true commitment means pursuing our goals and dreams despite the obstacles and challenges we might face. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and I'm happy you are here with me today.Did you know that today is Health and Happiness with Hypnosis Day? Now, I know what you might be thinking: "Hypnosis? Really?" But before you roll your eyes, let's dive into it a little. Hypnosis has been around for centuries and has been used for a variety of purposes, from entertainment to therapy. It’s fascinating how something so simple as a change in focus can have such profound effects on our well-being.In the spirit of Health and Happiness with Hypnosis Day, I've chosen a quote by the famous psychologist Milton H. Erickson.Milton H. Erickson (1901-1980) was an American psychiatrist and psychologist, renowned for his pioneering work in medical hypnosis and family therapy. He developed innovative therapeutic techniques that utilized metaphors, storytelling, and indirect suggestion, fundamentally transforming the practice of clinical hypnosis. Despite suffering from polio and other health challenges, Erickson's deep understanding of the unconscious mind and human behavior led him to create the Ericksonian approach to hypnosis, which remains influential in psychotherapy and hypnotherapy today. He said, "You can trust the unconscious. It knows more than you do."Let’s unpack that for a moment. Hypnosis is all about tapping into the unconscious mind, that part of you that works quietly behind the scenes, managing everything from your breathing to those sudden flashes of creativity. Erickson's quote reminds us that our unconscious mind holds a wealth of knowledge and wisdom, often more than we give it credit for.Think about it: how many times have you solved a problem after "sleeping on it" or had a great idea come to you in the shower? That's your unconscious at work, filtering through information and presenting you with solutions when you least expect it. Hypnosis takes that natural process and gives it a little nudge, helping you access those hidden resources more directly. On this day, take a moment to consider how you might harness the power of your own mind. Whether it's through formal hypnosis sessions, mindfulness practices, or simply paying more attention to your intuition, there are many ways to tap into that deeper part of yourself. Remember, you have a reservoir of knowledge and potential just waiting to be accessed. So, as you go about your day, why not give it a try? Maybe you'll find yourself more in tune with your thoughts and feelings, or perhaps you'll discover a new level of relaxation and clarity. After all, as Erickson wisely pointed out, "You can trust the unconscious. It knows more than you do."I'm Andrew McGivern signing off, and I'm glad you spent this time with me. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and its July 24th.Let's start with today's national holiday. Did you know that today is International Self-Care Day? It’s a day dedicated to taking a step back from our busy lives and focusing on ourselves – something that many of us often forget to do. Self-care is about more than just pampering; it’s about nurturing your mind, body, and soul. With that in mind, today’s quote comes from the inspiring author and motivational speaker, Wayne Dyer. Wayne Dyer was a renowned American self-help author and motivational speaker, widely considered one of the pioneers in the field of personal development. He authored over 40 books, including bestsellers like "Your Erroneous Zones" and "The Power of Intention." Dyer's work, which focused on positive thinking, self-empowerment, and spiritual growth, has inspired millions worldwide. He once said, "You cannot always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside."Now, let’s unpack that a bit. Dyer’s words are a perfect reminder for Self-Care Day. Life throws all sorts of curveballs our way – stressful jobs, hectic schedules, unexpected challenges. While we might not have control over these external factors, we do have the power to manage our internal response. Self-care is a key part of this. By taking time to care for yourself, you can maintain your inner peace and resilience, regardless of what’s happening around you.Imagine your mind as a garden. You can’t control the weather, but you can choose how you tend to your plants. Water them, give them sunlight, and pull out the weeds. Self-care is like this – it’s about giving yourself the nourishment you need to thrive, no matter what storms come your way.So, on this International Self-Care Day, why not take some time to do something that brings you joy? Maybe it’s reading a good book, taking a long walk, practicing yoga, or even just enjoying a quiet cup of tea. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential. When you take care of yourself, you’re better equipped to take care of others and handle life’s challenges. That's it for today’s episode of The Daily Quote. I’m Andrew McGivern, and I hope today’s holiday and quote inspire you to make self-care a priority, not just today, but every day. Until tomorrow, keep nurturing your inner garden and making each day count. One great way to get daily doses of self care in just three minutes a day... is to kickstart your day with Daily Quote. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is July 23rd.Did you know that today is National Yada Yada Yada Day? Yes, you heard it right. Inspired by the iconic Seinfeld episode where George's girlfriend frequently uses "yada yada yada" to gloss over important details in her stories. It's a day to celebrate the art of leaving things unsaid, a humorous nod to those moments when you might just skip the boring parts of the story.Speaking of Seinfeld, today's quote is from the comedy legend himself, Jerry Seinfeld. He once said, "It's amazing that the amount of news that happens in the world every day always just exactly fits the newspaper."Now, let's dive into this. Jerry Seinfeld's quote perfectly encapsulates the humor in the everyday absurdities of life. On National Yada Yada Yada Day, it seems fitting to reflect on how we often summarize our lives in quick, neat packages, just like how the news fits perfectly into the pages of a newspaper. We tend to skip over the mundane details with a simple "yada yada yada," keeping our stories concise and to the point. But here's the thing – what are we leaving out? The "yada yada yada" might be hiding the juiciest parts. Imagine if newspapers did that with their headlines: "Major breakthrough in science, yada yada yada, new species discovered." It’s the details that make life interesting, even if we sometimes yada yada them away. So, today, as you go about your day, think about the parts of your story you're glossing over. Maybe, just maybe, take a moment to appreciate the little details, the bits you usually skip. Who knows what interesting tidbits you might uncover?Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. Remember, every day brings a chance to find humor and joy in the small things. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, wishing you a fantastic National Yada Yada Yada Day. These natural compounds are found in foods like oats, barley, and mushrooms, and they do wonders for your immune system. They’re like the body’s own personal cheerleading squad, boosting your defenses and keeping you healthy.Speaking of health and resilience, today’s quote is from Helen Keller: “Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”So, what’s the connection between beta-glucans and Helen Keller’s wise words? Think of beta-glucans as a reminder that overcoming challenges often involves small, consistent actions. Just as beta-glucans steadily support your immune system, our daily efforts help us to overcome life's difficulties. They both remind us that resilience is built over time through small, positive actions.Beta-glucans work quietly, boosting your health behind the scenes, much like how each act of perseverance helps you overcome challenges. You may not always see the immediate impact, but these small efforts add up, building a foundation of strength and resilience.Today, celebrate Beta Glucan Day by enjoying some oatmeal or a hearty barley soup, and remember Helen Keller’s encouraging words. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is July 21st.Today, we're celebrating a rather out-of-this-world holiday: Invite an Alien to Live with You Day. This quirky celebration celebrates the TV Show Mork and Mindy where an Alien whose mission is study humanity is invited to live in Mindy's house. It’s also a fun, imaginative way to encourage acceptance and curiosity about things beyond our everyday experiences—literally thinking outside the planet. Our quote of the day comes from the beloved comedian and actor Robin Williams, who launched his amazing career by playing Mork from OrkRobin Williams once said..."No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world."Now, let’s connect the dots between inviting an alien to live with you and Robin Williams' insightful words. Inviting an alien is a whimsical way of embracing the unfamiliar, the new ideas and perspectives that come from beyond our usual realm of understanding. It’s about being open to change and the impact that fresh perspectives can bring.Imagine for a moment, what would happen if you actually invited an alien to live with you. Besides the likely confusion over who gets the remote, think about the vast exchange of ideas that would occur. You’d be exposed to entirely new ways of thinking, new technologies, and perhaps even new jokes—though, admittedly, they go over my head because they would be out of this world.Robin Williams' quote reminds us that it's not just the grand actions that change the world but the simple, powerful ideas and the words we use to share them. Inviting an alien into your home symbolizes welcoming those transformative ideas, no matter how unusual or alien they might seem at first. So today, as you navigate your daily routine, take a moment to think about what it means to truly welcome the unknown. Whether it’s a new person, a new idea, or a new challenge, approach it with the open-minded curiosity that can lead to real change. Remember, as Robin Williams beautifully put it, words and ideas can change the world, one small step—or giant leap—for mankind at a time. Thanks for tuning in to The Daily Quote. Stay curious, stay open to new ideas, and who knows? Maybe tonight, you’ll leave a little space at the dinner table for an unexpected guest.I'm Andrew McGivern, wishing you a day filled with wonder and the power of new ideas. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is July 20th.Today, we’re celebrating Toss Away the “Could Haves” and “Should Haves” Day. It’s a day dedicated to letting go of regrets and focusing on the present and future. It’s about freeing yourself from the shackles of the past and embracing the limitless possibilities ahead. In the spirit of this liberating day, let’s turn to a quote from the motivational speaker and life coach, Tony Robbins: “The past does not equal the future.”This powerful statement reminds you that your past mistakes, missed opportunities, and regrets do not define who you are or what you can achieve moving forward. It's easy to get bogged down by thoughts of what you could have done differently or what you should have achieved by now. But today, let’s toss those burdens aside.Imagine if you carried all the weight of your past decisions in a backpack. By now, that backpack would be bursting at the seams, making every step forward a grueling effort. Today, take a moment to unzip that backpack, take out each “could have” and “should have,” and toss them away. Feel the lightness in your step, the newfound freedom in your heart.By letting go of these regrets, you open yourself up to new possibilities and opportunities. You can start making decisions based on where you want to go, not where you’ve been. Think of it this way: if you drive a car, you don’t spend all your time looking in the rearview mirror. If you did, you’d crash. Instead, you glance back occasionally, but your focus is on the road ahead. Your journey through life should be the same.So today, embrace the clean slate in front of you. Recognize that you have the power to shape your future, starting now. Tony Robbins’ words are a reminder that your potential is not determined by your past. Each moment is an opportunity to create a new reality for yourself, one that’s not held back by yesterday’s missteps.Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I hope you find the courage to toss away those “could haves” and “should haves” and step boldly into your future. Remember, the past is just a story you tell yourself; the future is a story you’re yet to write.Until next time, I’m Andrew McGivern. Have a wonderful day, and keep moving forward.

Yes, you heard that right – it’s a day dedicated to our buzzing little friends and the wonderful folks who raise them right in the heart of our cities. Urban beekeeping is more than just a hobby; it's a way to support our environment, boost local ecosystems, and, of course, ensure we have plenty of delicious honey. Plus, bees are the unsung heroes of urban agriculture, pollinating plants that make our cities greener and more vibrant. In honor of this special day, I have a fitting quote for you from the legendary poet Kahlil Gibran:"To be able to look back upon one's life in satisfaction, is to live twice."Now, you might be wondering, what does reflecting on your life have to do with urban beekeeping? Well, let me paint you a picture. Imagine a beekeeper looking back at the end of a season, seeing the fruits of their labor – a thriving hive, the golden jars of honey, the blooming flowers all around. There’s a deep sense of satisfaction in knowing that their efforts have not only enriched their own lives but have also contributed to the wellbeing of their community and the environment. It's a reminder that the little things we do, like caring for bees, can have a big impact and bring us immense satisfaction.Just as the beekeeper finds joy in their buzzing companions, you too can find contentment in the small yet significant things you do every day. Whether it's helping a neighbor, planting a tree, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the world around you – these actions add up to a life well-lived.So today, take a moment to appreciate the bees and the beekeepers in your city. Maybe even think about what small act you can do to contribute to your community. Remember, satisfaction often comes from the simplest of efforts, much like a bee diligently collecting nectar one flower at a time.Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I hope today's message inspires you to find joy in the little things and to reflect on your own life with satisfaction. I'll see you tomorrow with another quote to start your day off right. Until then, keep buzzing and spreading positivity.

Today, we celebrate **World Youth Skills Day**, a day dedicated to emphasizing the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. It’s a day to acknowledge and encourage the development of skills that will help the next generation thrive in an ever-evolving job market. In honor of this day, I’ve chosen a quote from Dean Kamen, an inventor and entrepreneur best known for inventing the Segway. Kamen is also the founder of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organization dedicated to inspiring young people to be science and technology leaders. Here’s what he has to say:"You have teenagers thinking they're going to make millions as NBA stars when that's not realistic for even 1 percent of them. Becoming a scientist or engineer is."Kamen’s words are a stark reminder of the importance of guiding youth towards realistic and fulfilling career paths. While the dream of becoming an NBA star is exciting, the odds are incredibly slim. However, careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are not only more attainable but also crucial for the advancement of society.FIRST, the organization Kamen founded, plays a pivotal role in this by engaging young people in mentor-based research and robotics programs. These programs help foster skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation, preparing them for careers in STEM fields. On World Youth Skills Day, it's essential to recognize the value of these fields and the opportunities they offer. Encouraging young people to pursue careers in science and engineering can lead to stable and rewarding careers. Moreover, it’s these fields that will drive future innovations, solve global challenges, and improve the quality of life for people worldwide. If you’re a parent, teacher, or mentor, today is a perfect day to inspire the young people in your life to develop skills that will open doors to these exciting careers. And if you’re a young listener, consider exploring the fascinating worlds of science and technology – your future self might thank you.Remember, becoming a scientist or engineer might not sound as glamorous as becoming an NBA star, but it’s a path filled with its own rewards, opportunities, and the potential to make a significant impact.Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. Pretty cool.I'm not sure who decided to make these holidays on the same day... and I don't think it is a the best idea...Alright, moving swiftly on to our quote of the day: Today's quote is often attributed to various sources, but it doesn't have a definitive origin. It has been used in popular culture, music, and casual conversation for many years, often as a humorous or comforting remark. Because it's more of a colloquial saying rather than a formal quote, its exact origins are unclear. An unkown person once said..."It's not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean." Whether you're celebrating National Nude Day in all your natural glory or pulling out a tape measure to, well, measure something important, remember that it's the motion that counts, not the size.Let's dive a bit deeper. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating."Pegg's words really hit home, don't they? Embracing your geekiness is all about authenticity and joy. It's about unabashedly loving the things that light up your world, even if they seem trivial to others. In a world that often pressures us to conform and downplay our passions, being a geek is a refreshing rebellion.Think about it: when you immerse yourself in your favorite geeky hobby, you enter a state of pure happiness and enthusiasm. Whether you're debating the intricacies of the Star Wars universe, producing your podcast, or perfecting your latest cosplay, you're in your element, and that's something to be celebrated. Plus, isn't it a bit funny how we, as adults, sometimes need a reminder to enjoy ourselves like kids? So, today, don't hold back. Dive into that video game, start that new book series, or spend hours discussing the latest Marvel movie theories with your friends. Or start a new podcast to express your geekiness to the world. Let your geekiness shine through and savor the freedom it brings. As we wrap up today's episode, remember Simon Pegg's words and embrace your geekness wholeheartedly. After all, life is too short to pretend to be anything other than your true, geeky self. Thanks for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern signing off, and I look forward to sharing more with you tomorrow. Until then, keep geeking out!

George Bernard Shaw – The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

The Daily Quote podcast pageThe Great News Podcast pageThe Great News LetterVoicemail feedback line – 1-877-636-1474CONTACT MEWelcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is July 12th.Today, we celebrate New Conversations Day. It's a reminder to embrace the art of starting fresh dialogues, whether with someone new or someone you've known forever. What better way to honor this day than by reflecting on a quote that captures the essence of meaningful communication?Today we have another quote from the renowned playwright George Bernard Shaw, who once said, "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place."Shaw’s words hit the nail on the head, don’t they? It’s so easy to assume that just because we’ve spoken, we’ve communicated. But true communication goes beyond words; it’s about understanding and being understood. It’s about listening as much as it is about talking. Now, tying this into New Conversations Day, think about the conversations you’ve had recently. How many of them felt like you were truly connecting? Sometimes, we need a reminder to step back and really listen, to ask questions that delve deeper than the surface level. It’s like peeling an onion, layer by layer, until you get to the core of what someone is truly saying.Conversations are like onions - they have multiple layers and sometimes they make you cry. Often we prefer a nice, safe apple – something without so many layers to navigate. But where's the fun in that? Life's richness often comes from those layered, sometimes tear-inducing discussions. So, on New Conversations Day, challenge yourself to initiate a fresh dialogue. Reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while, or engage with a stranger and see where the conversation takes you. Remember, it’s not just about the exchange of words, but the connection and understanding you build. And that's all for today's episode of The Daily Quote. May your conversations today be filled with depth and understanding. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today and I look forward to sharing more insights with you tomorrow. Want to have a conversation with me... the link is in the shownotes. I'd love to get some feedback on the show and meet the people listening. I'll see you tomorrow with another daily quote. Have a great conversational day!

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is July 11th.Did you know that today is World Population Day? It's a day dedicated to raising awareness about global population issues. But instead of dwelling on the challenges, let's focus on a positive perspective. In that spirit, I’ve chosen a thought-provoking quote from Julian Simon: Julian Simon was an American economist and professor known for his optimistic views on population growth and resource availability. He argued that human ingenuity and technological advancements would overcome the challenges posed by increasing population. In other words, population growth is a problem that solves itself because each new person comes with a built in super computer - the human brain that can work on the problems caused by human population growth.Simon authored several influential works, including "The Ultimate Resource," which posited that human creativity is the most critical resource. His ideas often contrasted with the more pessimistic views of environmentalists and demographers, making him a prominent figure in economic and environmental debates.Julian Simon once said,'Population growth, far from being a problem, is the source of all human innovation, as it creates new minds and new ideas.'Let that sink in for a moment. Simon's perspective encourages us to see population growth not as a burden, but as a wellspring of potential. More people mean more minds at work, more creativity, and more innovation. It’s like having a giant brainstorming session with the entire human race. And who doesn't love a good brainstorming session?Think about it this way: with more people, we have more opportunities to solve the world’s problems, to create new technologies, and to make life better for everyone. Each person adds their unique touch to the tapestry of human progress. For some more uplifting thoughts on this topic, I highly recommend checking my blog post 55 Positive Quotes About Human Population Growth. And it turns out that in almost every country in the world we are experiencing negative population growth. The replacement rate is 2.1 children per woman and all developed nations fall significantly short. China has had several decades of a one child policy and now because of urbanization and increased economic opportunities for women one child has become a cultural norm. Over the next 30 or 40 years China's population will almost cut in half just from aging out. There are some regions that still have significant...

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is July 10th.Today is Global Energy Independence Day. This day is all about recognizing the importance of sustainable energy sources and celebrating the strides we've made towards reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. It’s a day to think about how we can continue to push for a cleaner, greener, and more energy-independent future.Today's quote of the day comes from former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who said, "Energy is the golden thread that connects economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability."What a profound insight. Energy, indeed, is at the heart of so many aspects of our lives. It powers our homes, fuels our transportation, and drives our industries. But more importantly, sustainable energy is the key to achieving a balance between economic development, social well-being, and environmental health.Access to Electricity is seen as key economic indicator because if you have electricity you have heating, cooling, can boil water and power computers and other devices. So, how does this tie into Global Energy Independence Day? Well, it highlights the crucial role that energy plays in shaping a better future for everyone. Just as Ban Ki-moon pointed out, the quest for energy independence isn’t just about cutting down on oil imports or reducing carbon footprints. It’s about fostering a world where economic growth is inclusive, where everyone has access to affordable energy, and where we protect our planet for future generations. We have made significant progress towards decoupling economic growth and carbon emmissions. Many solutions are already in use and even more are on the way. From Sand Batteries and Gravity batteries to Carbon Free Aluminum and Steel production, the innovations keep coming at a rapid pace.Maybe today is a reminder to think about your own energy consumption and how you can contribute to this global goal. Whether it’s by using energy-efficient appliances, supporting renewable energy initiatives, or simply being mindful of your daily energy use, every small step counts. It's a collective effort that requires each of us to do our part. So, here’s to energy independence, to a sustainable future, and to the golden thread that connects us all. Warren Buffet - Keep all your eggs in one basket, but watch that basket closely

Warren Buffet - Keep all your eggs in one basket, but watch that basket closely

Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is July 9th.It's National Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Omelette Day! Yes, it's as quirky as it sounds, and it serves as a light-hearted reminder to diversify and not put all your resources into one single venture. Now, let's pair that with today's quote. This one comes from the great American entrepreneur Warren Buffett, who said, "Do not put all your eggs in one basket."But he also said,“Keep all your eggs in one basket, but watch that basket closely”Which advice from Warren Buffet is correct?... Warren Buffett, one of the most successful investors of all time, emphasizes the importance of diversification. Just like our holiday today suggests, it's all about spreading your investments, efforts, or even hopes across various opportunities to avoid the risk of losing everything at once. So, what does this mean in the context of our daily lives? Well, think about it this way: If you pour all your energy into one project, one job, or one relationship, you're risking a lot on that single outcome. By diversifying, you give yourself a safety net and more chances for success. Whether it's in your career, personal life, or hobbies, having multiple interests and investments can lead to a more balanced and secure life.On the other hand, look at the most successful people in the world. Almost all of them went ALL IN on their business or investment. Steve Jobs was 100% Apple, Jeff Besos went ALL IN on Amazon. They put all their eggs in one basket but they watched the basket very carefully.I think what Warren Buffet is saying is if you are an average investor that doesn't have the time to watch your basket of eggs... then you shouldn't put them all in one basket. Diversification will protect you from your lack of attention. On National Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Omelette Day, take a moment to assess where you might be putting all your eggs in one basket. Do you have the resources to watch that basket like a hawk protecting its young. If not... Is there a way to spread your resources, try new things, or explore different avenues? This approach not only minimizes risk but can also open up new opportunities and experiences you might have otherwise missed.I mean, Elon Musk, one of the worlds richest people has multiple companies so not every UBER successful person is ALL IN on one thing.Warren Buffett's wisdom and today's quirky holiday both remind us that life is full of possibilities. By not betting everything on a single outcome, we allow ourselves to enjoy a richer, more varied life experience. Or we can go all in and put all our eggs in one basket and all our attention too.So, go ahead, make one delicious omlette with your eggs or make different omelettes and savor the diversity of flavors. Thanks for listening, I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today...And if you want to diversify your podcast listening... make sure you add the Daily Quote to your follow list so you'll get another quote tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, and so on, and so on, and so on...

I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is July 7th.Let's dive right in, shall we? Today is National Chocolate Day! A day dedicated to celebrating that delightful treat that has brought joy to our taste buds and, let’s be honest, our souls. Whether it's dark, milk, white, or any creative concoction in between, chocolate has a special place in many hearts. In honor of this sweet celebration, I've chosen a quote from the beloved author and humorist, Erma Bombeck. She once said, "Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the 'Titanic' who waved off the dessert cart."Erma Bombeck had a knack for combining humor with wisdom, and this quote is a perfect example. On National Chocolate Day, it serves as a delightful reminder to indulge in the simple pleasures of life. Sometimes, we get so caught up in being overly cautious or sticking to strict routines that we forget to enjoy the small joys.Think about it. How often have you skipped a treat or a fun activity because you were trying to be "good"? While discipline has its place, so does joy. And sometimes, that joy comes in the form of a piece of chocolate.Remember Oscar Wilde's quote from a couple of days ago... Everything in Moderation, including moderation. So, today, let’s take Erma’s advice to heart. Whether it’s enjoying a chocolate bar, savoring a rich brownie, or indulging in a creamy hot chocolate, give yourself permission to seize the moment and delight in a sweet treat. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes, a little chocolate is just what you need to brighten your day.Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. Remember, take a moment to indulge and savor the sweetness of life, just like a piece of your favorite chocolate. But before you bite into that delicious piece of choc 0 la please take a second to follow or subscribe in your podcast app and that will make sure you see another great quote tomorrow too.Have a wonderful day, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow.

Whether it’s a peck on the cheek, a kiss on the hand, or a romantic smooch, today is all about spreading love and joy. Now, let's move on to today's quote, which comes from the beloved Dr. Seuss: Dr. Seuss is popular here on the daily quote - this is the third quote from Dr. Seuss, who wonce said..."You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."Dr. Seuss captures the essence of what it means to be in love and how those tender moments, like a kiss, can make reality feel magical. Just like a kiss, love has the power to make the mundane extraordinary, to transform our everyday experiences into something remarkable. So, as you go about your day, perhaps you can share a kiss with someone special. Remember that it’s the small gestures that often carry the most meaning and can brighten someone’s day in the most unexpected ways.I was listening to a podcast with Peter Diamondis where they were talking about Blue Zones and why people live longer, healthy lives in certain geographic areas and demographic groups...One of the contributers to a long, healthy life is having a purpose. A reason to jump out of bed in the morning. Peter's guest said that the two most dangerous years in terms of mortality risk are the year you are born and the year you retire. When you are a newborn there is an infant mortality risk and when you retire you lose your purpose. So remember what Dr. Seuss says... You know your in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.Just like being in love with someone can keep you up at night... having a purpose can give you a driving force in your life.Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I hope this touch of whimsy and affection adds a bit of magic to your day. Enjoy your International Kissing Day, and remember to spread the love. Until tomorrow, take care! Bisous!

So, if you needed an excuse to stay indoors and binge-watch your favorite show or read a good book, today’s your day! Now, let’s dive into our quote of the day. It comes from the American essayist and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson: “Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.”I know what you're thinking. Why are we talking about sunshine on National Stay Out of the Sun Day? Well, there's a method to this madness. Emerson's words remind us of the importance of experiencing and enjoying the natural world around us. But just like everything else in life, balance is key. While it's wonderful to live in the sunshine, sometimes it's just as important to appreciate the shade. On this National Stay Out of the Sun Day, think of Emerson’s quote as a gentle nudge to find that balance. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is National Anisette Day? Lets dive right in... Anisette is a sweet, anise-flavored liqueur, often enjoyed as an aperitif. Now, I don't know about you, but any holiday that involves celebrating a delightful drink sounds like a good idea. So, raise your glass to that!Today's quote comes from Oscar Wilde, who once said, "Everything in moderation, including moderation." This little gem from Wilde fits our holiday like a perfectly poured glass of anisette.Oscar Wilde, known for his sharp wit and hedonistic lifestyle, reminds us of the importance of balance. It’s a fun paradox—he’s essentially telling you to be moderate, but also to indulge a little. So, while you enjoy your anisette today, remember that it’s okay to let loose every now and then. Life’s about finding that sweet spot between restraint and revelry.Just think of it this way: if you lived every day in perfect moderation, where would the stories come from? After all, “that one wild night” usually doesn't start with a salad and a glass of water. So, celebrate National Anisette Day with a toast to balance, a tip of the hat to indulgence, and a nod to moderation—just the way Oscar Wilde would have wanted it. It's a day to appreciate those brief, brilliant streaks of light that remind us how vast and spectacular our universe is. So, if you get the chance tonight, take a moment to gaze upwards—you might just catch a glimpse of something extraordinary. Our quote for today comes from the legendary Carl Sagan, an astronomer who had a unique way of making the cosmos feel personal. He once said, "The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself."Reflecting on this quote, it's incredible to think that the same elements that make up the stars also make up you and me. On National Meteor Watch Day, this idea feels especially poignant. As you watch those meteors blaze across the sky, remember that you're connected to something much larger than yourself. You're not just a passive observer of the universe; you're an active part of it.There's something wonderfully humbling about Sagan's words. They serve as a reminder that, despite our daily worries and struggles, we're part of a grander story—a cosmic narrative that stretches back billions of years and will continue long after we're gone. It's a bit like realizing you're a tiny, but essential, character in a vast, unfolding epic.So tonight, when you look up and see a meteor streaking across the sky, take a moment to appreciate the wonder and the science behind it. Remember Carl Sagan's words and feel a bit of that cosmic connection. And if you happen to make a wish on that shooting star, well, who knows? It’s from the legendary photographer Ansel Adams, who once said,"You don’t take a photograph, you make it."Adams’ words remind us that photography isn’t just about clicking a button. It’s about creating something meaningful, capturing a moment in time, and presenting it in a way that tells a story. In many ways, this philosophy can apply to our daily lives. Life, like photography, is not just about going through the motions. It’s about actively shaping our experiences and making each moment count.Think about your day as a series of photographs. Each moment is an opportunity to create a memory, to focus on what truly matters, and to frame your experiences in the best possible light. Just like a photographer carefully chooses their subject, angle, and lighting, you have the power to choose your perspective and approach to life.So today, whether you’re behind the lens or in front of it, take a moment to appreciate the beauty around you. Create memories that you’ll want to look back on and smile. And remember, sometimes the most unexpected moments make the best photographs – and the best stories.Thank you for joining me today on The Daily Quote. I hope Ansel Adams' words inspire you to make each moment a masterpiece. Until next time, keep focusing on the good and capturing the beauty in your life. Have a wonderful day!
