Project Audion Episode 40: Suspense!- The Witness on the Westbound Train
Larry Groebe is back with Project Audion and a season premiere, we've brought back the entire wide-ranging cast who appeared Project Audion Episode One...plus a couple more voice talents who have done wonderful work in other Project Audion shows.
And once again we're recreating an episode of "Suspense" -- one of a dwindling number of still-lost episodes at that! (We've already enabled people to hear two previously-lost Suspense shows through our past recreations.) This one, titled "The Witness on the Westbound Train," is a rare, early, and unusual find. When CBS premiered the the show in June 1942, it was a summer sustaining show, and not at all evident that it would become one of the all-time great radio dramas, running for 20 years and nearly 1000 stories. Indeed, this July 15, 1942 script, just Suspense's fifth-ever, is believed to have been adapted from an earlier show called "Calling All Cars" - which means that while all the typical Suspense ingredients are in place (in this instance, a murder aboard a moving train) the show hadn't quite yet settled into its classic style. It's still a fascinating listen to hear the embryonic version of the beloved show to come.
