60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: TIP: What to Do When You Don’t Have Work to Do

60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: TIP: What to Do When You Don’t Have Work to Do

Hello to you listening in Jablonne nad Orlici, Czech Republic! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you have spaces in the year when you are not overly busy. In fact, you might be underly busy. Perhaps your reaction is to scramble to be productive. But productivity is not always related to action.  What if there’s another valuable way to use the underly busy times?  Amos Tversky, an expert of decision making, wrote, “The secret to doing good research is always to be a little underemployed. You waste years by not being able to waste hours.” [Amos Tversky — An Amazing Man]Practical Tip: Think about this for a moment. What’s the rush? There is time to devote to day dreaming or staring out the window while giving our wonderfully creative imaginations time to breathe, show up, solve a problem.  Question: What would be so wrong about giving ourselves permission to be a little underly busy? How might that notion play out in your world? You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your no-sales complimentary coaching session,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: I Dare You to Say YES! to Creating Your Origin Story

Hello to you listening in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories from Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.Do you FEEL it inside? Nagging at you? Just out of reach? You have something to say. But you can’t find the words. So, your story can’t create the change you want to see.For 30 years, I’ve helped people take their story from a message only they could hear to the publishing world, the courtroom, hospitals, board meetings and more.Stories that swayed juries. Built markets. Spread ideas. Changed things.Today, I help socially conscious women professionals and entrepreneurs create their origin story with the spirit of who they are. It may be the most consequential story you’ll ever tell; the one that reveals how you got from There to Here.  If you can feel the story in you, that’s enough to get started. I’ll help you find the words you didn’t know you had so you can give voice to the heart of your message and the message of your heart. Then we’ll launch it so you can create the change you want to see and be.CTA: If you are a professional or entrepreneur who's committed to building her origin story with the spirit of who you are, for branding, marketing, speaking, your About page, or something else, let’s work together to create the change you want to see!Feel welcome to DM me: Diane on LinkedIn, check out all the wonderful offerings on the Quarter Moon Story Arts website, or email me at [email protected]!Let's make 2024 the year you create & tell your origin story! 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: A Technique for Calm & Steady Peace of Mind

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: A Technique for Calm & Steady Peace of Mind

Hello to you listening in Bordeaux, France!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you find yourself stuck in a line at the post office, the grocery story, the ferry terminal, or just everyday traffic red lights as far as the eye can see. You feel yourself growing increasingly impatient, chest clenches, heart rate ticks up, shoulders squeeze, lips tighten. No peace of mind to be had.Practical Tip: You are not only the master of your fate - you are also the master of your mind. All it takes is a little practice. Try this: Breathe in slowly and mindfully saying to yourself, “This is my in-breath. I know I’m breathing in.” Pause for a moment and breathe out slowly and mindfully saying to yourself, “This is my out-breath. I know I’m breathing out.”  After a few of these in-breaths and out-breaths (or maybe more than a few) you’ll feel yourself softening, your shoulders relax, your heart rate slows, your mind a bit more calm, peaceful, steady and ready to continue on your project, on your way.Remember that this practice is available to you at any moment to restore and refresh. Guaranteed! 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Is the Joy You’re Taking in the Making?

60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Is the Joy You’re Taking in the Making?

Hello to you listening in Perth, Australia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.    Recently I read a blog post by my friend and colleague Leanne Gordon. Leanne's Drip by Drop blog posts are designed to be “A daily dose of thinking helping you to make change happen in your work and life.” Joy In The Making caught my ear.  In brief the idea is that we often arrive at the end of something and wonder why it took us so long to get there. Or, we listen to others who chide us for taking so long. I remember a galpal who moved away a few years before I did. She said, “When you finally move you’ll wonder what took you so long.” Not!What we’re forgetting here is the process of our productivity. Making the journey gets us to the destination. As Leanne writes: “The meaning and joy is in the making.”Story Prompt: I imagine you are making something. What is the joy you are taking in the making? Write that story! You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-sales Discovery Chat to learn more: ,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: How Would It Feel to Say No!

60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: How Would It Feel to Say No!

Hello to you listening in Llanrhystud, Wales UK! Click HERE for more on Llanrhystud, Wales Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Here’s a scary thought: Saying No to someone when we're used to saying Yes. What are you afraid of?Many of us, especially girls, are taught that saying Yes is right, good, proper, helpful even and saying No is just plain wrong. The problem is the more we say Yes when we mean No we forget how to make choices in our own best interest and well-being. This self-sabotage robs us of our ability to choose wisely, of our personal power, of our legitimate right to say No with clarity, confidence, and conviction.Of course, there’s nothing wrong with agreeing to a request from certain people in our lives so long as we are not limited in our options, feeling compelled, thinking we will be rejected or worse.  It takes practice to practice No. What do you get? What do you want? Name it! Claim it!  Practical Tip: A simple response to a request to take on work or favors you want to decline is to say, “No. It’s good work; but it’s not my work.”Question: How does it feel to value and appreciate your own good self saying what you mean and meaning what you say? 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: When Will You Be Ready to Leave Your Small River?

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: When Will You Be Ready to Leave Your Small River?

Hello to you listening in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England!Click HERE for more on Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England. Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The salmon are running here. The ones that left our estuaries as small fry, headed out into the Pacific Ocean and return home a few years later as fully grown adults to spawn, their wild adventure at an end. Like the salmon there have been moments in my life when I risked it all, on a dream, a vision, a hope. My risk-taking ways have rewarded me with chances I could not have taken from the comfort of an armchair. But of late I find myself feeling rusty, maybe drifting in the current, anxious to feel alive in the old way.  I know what calls me. David Whyte’s (our Whidbey Island, Washington poet laureate) poem A Song For the Salmon, gives voice to that deepest longing, to be gone again on a great journey. Perhaps it will call to you...  A Song For the Salmon“For too many days now I have not written of the sea,nor the rivers, nor the shifting currentswe find between the islands. For too many nights now I have not imagined the salmonthreading the dark streams of reflected stars, nor have I dreamt of his longingnor the lithe swing of his tail toward dawn I have not given myself to the depth to which he goes,to the cargoes of crystal water, cold with salt, nor the enormous plains of ocean swaying beneath the moon. I have not felt the lifted arms of the oceanopening its white hands on the seashore, nor the salted wind, whole and healthyfilling the chest with living air. I have not heard those wavesfallen out of heaven onto earth, nor the tumult of sound and the satisfactionof a thousand miles of oceangiving up its strength on the sand. But now I have spoken of that great sea,the ocean of longing shifts through me,the blessed inner star of navigationmoves in the dark sky aboveand I am ready like the young salmonto leave his river, blessed with hungerfor a great journey on the drawing tide.” [by David Whyte ]  You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-sales Discovery Chat to learn more: ,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: How Can You Not Afford a Lazy Monday?

60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: How Can You Not Afford a Lazy Monday?

Hello to you listening in Vigo, Galicia, Spain!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Society does not approve of laziness. Imagine what society would say about establishing a Lazy Monday! My teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, encouraged us to take a Lazy Monday. What’s the point? “A lazy day is a chance to train ourselves not to be afraid of doing nothing. You might think that not doing anything is a waste of time. But that’s not true. Your time is first of all for you to be - to be alive, to be at peace. The world needs joyous and loving people who are capable of just being. People sometimes say ‘Don’t just sit there, do something’. But we have to reverse that statement to say ‘Don’t do something, just sit there’ in order to be in such a way that peace, understanding, and compassion are possible.”Question: You absolutely can afford a Lazy Monday!  What’s it worth to you to give it a go?Click here to learn more about Lazy Monday:You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-sales Discovery Chat to learn more: ,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Hello to you listening in Belgaum, Karnataka, India!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. There is so much noise about the many ways available to us to open a new door, more doors, better doors to your life, your business, your heart, your relations... it’s exhausting! Do we need all those doors? Might there be another way? Yes.Perhaps you’re familiar with the Brazilian novelist Paolo Coelho de Souza who wrote the best seller The Alchemist, as well as The Pilgrimage about his road of self-discovery on the Camino de Santiago. When I read what he had to say about doors I paid attention. "Close some doors today. Not because of pride, incapacity, or arrogance, but simply because they lead you nowhere. Close some doors today. Not because of pride, incapacity, or arrogance, but simply because they lead you nowhere."Story Prompt: Begin here: decide which door or doors you will close today? What might happen next? Write that story!Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. Hello to you listening in Sparta, New Jersey!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.“Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly but the bumblebee doesn’t know that so it goes on flying anyway.” [Mark Kay Ash]How often do we get caught up in our ego, our expectations of what we can or can’t do based on the next fellow or gal’s accomplishments. The next fellow or gal doesn’t matter. To keep me on an even keel and headed toward my own horizon I find grace and courage in these words from M.F.K. Fisher because when I pay attention I know they are true:"I am more modest now, but I still think that one of the pleasantest of all emotions is to know that I, I with my brain and my hands, have nourished my beloved few, that I have concocted a stew or a story, a rarity or a plain dish, to sustain them truly against the hungers of the world." 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Could an Expert in Porcelain Repair Teach About Living Whole Again?

60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Could an Expert in Porcelain Repair Teach About Living Whole Again?

Hello to you listening in Alexandria, Egypt!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.  Time out of mind my used-to-be-husband left me for Wife Number 4. By and by I learned to let go of my suffering. My teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh said that we suffer when we grasp something and hold tight to it, instead of letting it go when it was time. The awareness that all is impermanent doesn't come easily; but it does come and then you can step into the fullness of your life. I remember attending a workshop for us poor divorced souls who were curious about how to piece together the remnants of our shattered lives. The speaker was a middle-aged divorced woman who repaired broken porcelain collectibles with one of two methods. The first was called a glue-up. Get the bits and glue them back together. It’s serviceable enough. The other more time-consuming and expensive method involved painstakingly detailed and careful work: sanding the rough edges of all the bits, carefully piecing each bit together, affixing the bits with a special glue so the joinder line didn’t show, and painting the piece to restore it to whole. Her advice to us was while we could get away with our lives being a glue-up, in her experience it was much better to do the painstaking work to live whole again.Story Prompt: When you took the time and put in the effort to restore something to wholeness in your life what was the result for you? Write that story!  You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: 3 TIPS to Improve Your Communication Confidence

60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: 3 TIPS to Improve Your Communication Confidence

Hello to you listening in Yamaguchi City, Japan!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I’ve produced over 1,000 daily podcast episodes on the global airwaves. Each episode is typically between 60 and 180 seconds. In mere minutes I share a story, a message, and a call to action. Why does brevity matter? Attention spans are dangerously short. More importantly communicating information in a clear, concise and cogent manner gets you seen, heard, understood and listened to. At the same time you develop your communication confidence.3 Tips to Improve Your Communication Confidence:1. Do you stumble over your words in a meeting or presentation? Before you speak think about the key points you want to make. Jot down a roadmap with bullet points. Once you start speaking you’ll be anchored and directed. Make your points and end with a strong conclusion.2. Do you over-explain because you’re unsure whether your audience is with you? If you feel you’re not getting your point across take the pulse of the room every now and again by asking a short question: Are you with me? What are you hearing? Does this make sense? Gauge the reaction before you continue speaking. You may need to backtrack or take a question.3. Do you feel like you use too many filler words? The meaningless ums, uhs, likes, and ya knows that suck the oxygen out of the room. Filler words can detract from our assertiveness. But at times we can use the word ‘like’ to create connection with our audience. People communicate in metaphors: this is like that is. Know your words. Choose your words. When in doubt, take a breath.  Bonus tip: Every day for 3 minutes practice speaking out loud. Record and listen to yourself. Pay attention to what sounds good and what could sound better. Once you raise awareness about what you do well and what to do better you will do it.CTA: I’m ready to help you grow into a confident communicator who can clarify ideas and amplify messages.  No obligation Discovery Chat is available. Email me at [email protected] OR click the LINK in the Episode Notes. Let’s get going!    You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-obligation Discovery Call to learn more,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: TIP => Trying to Make Yourself Heard Begins With Knowing Who You Are

60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: TIP => Trying to Make Yourself Heard Begins With Knowing Who You Are

Hello to you listening in Bow-Edison, Skagit County, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.“Being underestimated because of gender (or any other reason) is an advantage when you’re a spy on the street trying to move around unobserved. Being underestimated is a problem for everybody when you are a woman in a national security community trying to make yourself heard about something important you have discovered.” [The Sisterhood - The Secret History of Women at the CIA by Liza Mundy]  Reading those words from The Sisterhood - The Secret History of Women at the CIA reminded me of all the ways in which women feel underestimated, personally as well as professionally. How do we correct that? It starts with unlocking the power of clarity and intentionality that is Your Who.We each have a particular story at the core of our lives: our Origin Story. Our Origin Story reveals how we got from There to Here. When we own our Origin Story we stand in courage and confidence. How so? By trusting the hardships we’ve faced and achievements we’ve won we connect with our self-worth, what we stand for, what we won’t stand for, what we no longer fear. We have something to say because we discovered WHO we are. This gives us the power to be heard and listened to.CTA: If you’re curious about how to make yourself heard by creating Your Who, email me ([email protected]) OR tap the Link in the Episode Notes to schedule a no-obligation Discovery Chat. 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: TIP => Our Origin Story Can Connect Us to Our Self-Worth, Our True Home

Hello to you listening in Estacada, Oregon!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you wonder where your true home might be. Perhaps we’ve had it with us all along. "It was when I stopped searching for home within others and lifted the foundations of home within myself I found there were no roots more intimate than those between a mind and body that have decided to be whole."   [Rupi Kaur]The decision to be whole connects us to our true self, our true home of self-worth.  What will help us decide to be whole? When we recall and connect with our story of self-worth, in our words, in our voice we come face-to-face with who we truly are, and how we deserve to be seen, heard, understood, and listened to.How do we get there? By discovering our Origin Story we experience how we got from There to Here, and create a guide to go from Here to There.  If you’re curious about the transformative power of your story to advance your life personally and professionally, let’s have a no-obligation, no sales Discovery Chat.  Email me:   [email protected] OR  click this LINK in the Episode NotesYou’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-obligation Discovery Call to learn more,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Hello to you listening in Sarver, Butler County, Pennsylvania!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. When I’m operating at less than my best, and more my righteous, opinionated, judgmental self I remember something Elizabeth Ellis, my friend and storytelling mentor said to me: “When we feel like a hammer everything looks like a nail.”My teacher, the venerable Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh had this to say to us, "For things to reveal themselves to us, we need to be ready to abandon our views about them.”Story Prompt: What if you shifted your mindset about something or someone? What good might come from that? Maybe no more hammer. 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: Bombs Are Falling & Brave Souls Are Singing

60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: Bombs Are Falling & Brave Souls Are Singing

Hello to you listening in Jasper, Indiana!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga. In the early 1990s a cellist in Sarejevo, Vedran Smajlovic, went out into the square when the bombs were dropping and started playing his cello. A journalist asked him, "Why are you out here playing your cello while the bombs are dropping?" The cellist replied, “Why are they dropping bombs while I’m playing the cello?”In the face of tragedy art and beauty might be all some of us have to offer. Art and beauty give us hope, remind us of our humanity even when someone else denies it, as well as help shape the stories of the society they reflect.Walking life’s path can be made a bit more hopeful when we have art, music and brave souls to walk along with us.Whether the voice of a child singing a tune from the movie, Frozen; Vera Lytovchenko, violinist and teacher playing in a bomb shelter dressed in an evening gown; a piano player outside a train station; or men singing their country’s anthem.Click HERE to listen a 2 minute broadcast from 2 years ago. It’s the voices and music of a determined nation fighting for its unbowed Ukranian soul and winning albeit at great cost. But music alone won’t do it. Hear us, world leaders: if Ukraine maintains its determination and gets necessary external military support, it can win this war of attrition!  NOTE: During the nearly four-year siege of Sarajevo that ended in 1996, Vedran Smajlovic played Albinoni’s Adagio in G Minor on his cello in ruined buildings, including the Vijecnica, the Bosnian capital’s destroyed city hall. He also played at funerals despite the threat of sniper fire. His powerful music became a sign of resilience and of the triumph of humanity over brutality. 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Predicting Death Dates & 10 Tips for Living a Longer Life

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Predicting Death Dates & 10 Tips for Living a Longer Life

Hello to you listening in Rowley Ghost Town, Alberta, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The other day my friend and colleague SB Rawz of Rawz Coaching floated a question about death. She acknowledged that when asked most people do not wish to know the time and place of their death.I pondered that for a bit. Then I asked myself, “Self, do I want to know?”On the one hand I might be spurred to live my life more intentionally, squander less time in front of the computer, really listen to sounds of silence, of dawn, of twilight. I imagine I’d savor my meals instead of holding a bowl while I worked in front of - the computer. Perhaps I’d give myself permission to walk away from the office. I’d ask for less and dream more. Maybe I’d keep track of every opportunity I declined so I realized what matters most. And so on.On the other hand I’d have to get used to the idea that my days really are numbered; which, of course, they are, but I fail to pay attention. Would I live in anxiety? Perhaps the knowledge would weigh me down. What if I had high hopes for my future? Would I retreat from those hopes because I might not be able to reach them? Or, double down so that I could?I’ll share a secret: Given the opportunity to predict my death date on The Death Clock I opted out.Question: Would you want to know the time and place of your passing? Or not? And how come?  Meanwhile, click HERE  for tips on living a longer life.Tips For Living a Longer Life1) Maintain a Healthy WeightMaintaining a healthy weight is vital to reduce the risk of developing diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.2) Regular ExerciseGet moving for at least 30 minutes a day. Regular physical activity reduces the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.3) Stop SmokingAvoid smoking and second-hand smoke. These can lead to various types of cancer, heart disease, and lung diseases.4) Balanced DietEating a balanced diet full of nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains is critical. Avoid consuming too much processed foods, refined sugars, and unhealthy fats.5) Drink Less (or no) AlcoholLimit alcohol intake. While occasional social drinking is usually okay, heavy or prolonged drinking can lead to a number of health issues including liver disease, cardiovascular problems, and cancer.6) Good SleepTry to get a good night's sleep. Quality sleep is important for overall health and well-being. It affects mood, memory, and healing processes.7) Regular Check-upsRegular screenings and medical check-ups can help detect problems early. This is especially important for conditions that don't always show noticeable symptoms, like high blood pressure or high cholesterol.8) Manage StressLong-term stress can lead to a number of health issues. Practice stress management techniques like mindfulness, meditation, yoga, or other relaxation exercises.9) Maintain Social ConnectionsRelationships and social interactions are vital for mental health. Loneliness and social isolation can lead to depression and cognitive decline.10) Lifelong LearningKeep your mind active. Lifelong learning, reading, solving puzzles, or other brain-engaging activities can help to keep your mind sharp and potentially delay the onset of cognitive decline. 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Did You Decide to Do Your Way?

60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Did You Decide to Do Your Way?

Hello to you listening in Rabat, Capital of Morocco!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. As the story goes I refused to transition from toddler diapers to toddler big girl pull ups the traditional way. No matter what they promised I was not going to sit on the Little Human pot. I wanted to sit on the Big Human’s porcelain throne. Maybe my mother saw genius in my independence or maybe she was just harried with more babies coming along behind me every 18 months or so. She gave in. I did potty training my way.But doing it “my way” didn’t happen nearly as often as the story seems to foretell. That little girl’s voice got shut down and ignored in the din of other voices, voices of authority, duty, church, obligation, and responsibility. And yet, her voice wasn’t gone; it was just gone missing. In time she went looking for it. Named it and claimed it as her own voice. Now she helps professional women change their narrative so they are seen, heard, understood, and listened to.Story Prompt: Somewhere in the long ago you realized that there is no other voice like yours. When did you choose to use it? How did you decide to do it your way, with your voice. Write that story!    You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: What if You Knew the Secret to Storytelling to Engage, Connect With & Influence Your Audience!

Hello to you listening in Ellensburg, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. They say that the measure of a well-told story lies in the emotions it stirs within the listener. What often remains unsaid is the magic behind this connection. Here's a secret: the “sorcery of stories” connection occurs by activating the listener's imagination with a “heartfelt story artfully told.” These stories have the power to foster community, understanding and empathy, improve attitudes and behaviors, collectively overcome challenges, and ultimately, change lives for a more harmonious world. For over 30 years I’ve helped professionals bring their story from a message only they could hear to the publishing world, the courtroom, hospitals, board meetings, the airwaves, and more. 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: What Is Your Element - The Place Where You Belong?

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: What Is Your Element - The Place Where You Belong?

Hello to you listening in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I paused my computer screen saver as it pulled up a photo from my Camino pilgrimage: a lake in a town on a sunny day - and swans. Graceful, regal, fully in their watery element, no longer bound to the land. While swans can lumber across the ground swaying dangerously side to side, their element is water. That’s where they belong.  Following is a version of Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem - The Swan - translated by Robert Bly:“This clumsy living that moves lumberingas if in ropes through what is not done, reminds us of the awkward way the swan walks. And to die, which is the letting goof the ground we stand on and cling to every day,is like the swan, when he nervously lets himself down into the water, which receives him gailyand which flows joyfully underand after him, wave after wave, while the swan, unmoving and marvelously calm,is pleased to be carried, each moment more fully grown, more like a king, further and further on.”Maybe like me you’ve been asking yourself: What is my element? Where do I belong? How will I find it? Could it be looking for me?Question: What is your element? How do you know? Copy of 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: Feeling Story Blocked? What if You Took a Sentence For a Walk?

Copy of 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: Feeling Story Blocked? What if You Took a Sentence For a Walk?

Hello to you listening in Mount Evelyn, Australia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Perhaps like me those of us who are writers, artists, creators experience Story Stuckness, Creative Burnout, or the “indefinite indescribable terror” 19th Century English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge first described at not being able to produce work he thought worthy of his talent.I produce 5 60 Seconds podcasts each week. Each set of 5 podcasts takes me about 2 days from idea to scheduled episode. Many times I cannot think creatively. I feel stuck.Practical Tip: When this happens there is only 1 solution: go for a walk. But don’t go alone. No. Take along a sentence. Start with a word, string on a few more words to make a decent sentence and then set out to see where the sentence takes you: where does it meander, stop and  ponder, skip ahead gaily or sit to gaze. What interesting people and places, ideas and objects might your sentence encounter as you take it for a walk? Expect that you will discover much to inform you and your writing - as well as your art.Writers, artists and creators are much like composters. We don’t create from nothing. Rather, we take all the coffee grounds and orange peels and potato skins of our lives and transform that into this.Story Prompt: What creativity shows up for you when your sentence takes you for a walk? Write that story!Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something.   All that matters is you have a story.CTA: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! Copy of 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: Why Do My Clients Get to Stand and Deliver Their Message?

Hello to you listening in Englewood, Florida!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.  To this very day my clients from courtrooms to classrooms  can repeat my opening lines about presentations:“Put down the paper and nobody gets hurt.”and “To stand and deliver your work is a privilege - a gift from you to your audience.”The human voice is the most powerful instrument we have to heal, inspire, comfort, entertain, and more. It’s the reason that Big Humans and Little Humans long to hear the same stories retold. I believe that our audiences are waiting to be gifted with our spoken words, not our notepad words.  When you write your words you are using your brain in a particular way to convey your message in words. But that all changes when you speak those same words out loud. Why? Because writer-brain and speaker-brain are different.Speaking your words out loud will show you right away when a turn of phrase fails, you lack a bridge from one thought to the next, when your story begins to unravel like an old sweater because it lacks integrity - it does not hang together from beginning to end.I have produced well over 1,000 episodes.  My 4-year practice  has enabled me to embed a lot of meaning in a short space while offering commentaries that are timeless and universal.I take a day to write my week’s worth of 5 episodes. And then I speak them aloud before recording them. This is when I hear myself say something my writer-brain didn’t catch.Practical Tip: Take the time to speak the words of your presentation out loud. Relish the sound of your human voice. Embrace the power of your spoken word. The more you speak your words out loud the more confident you become, more fearless, more influential. It’s a gift from you to your audience. Guaranteed! You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no obligation  Story Start-up Session ,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Copy of 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: Who Told You “You Can’t Because You’re a Girl?”

Hello to you listening in Tamuning, Guam!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more for the story) for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Charley Darkey Parkhurst was about 40 years old when hired on in the 1850s gold rush as a six-in hand stage coach driver with Wells Fargo & Co. working some of the most treacherous routes in Northern California. These rugged teamsters held rein over six wild-eyed horses as they tore along precipitous mountain trails. Charley was one of a breed of skilled and fearless stage coach drivers who pushed themselves and their horses to the limit. For 15 years Charley battled outlaws, fought, drank, smoked, and gambled with the best of them.Charley’s death from cancer in 1879 revealed the disguise: Charley was born Charlotte Parkhurst in New Hampshire, escaped from an orphanage at age 15, and seeing that the world of work was better for men adopted the role. Charley was an expert horseman, lumberjack, and voted in a Presidential election dressed as a man some 52 years before women were given the right to vote.  “The only people who have occasion to be disturbed by the career of Charley Parkhurst are the gentlemen who have so much to say about ‘woman’s sphere’ and ‘the weaker vessel,’ ” The Providence, R.I. Journal wrote. “It is beyond question that one of the soberest, pleasantest, most expert drivers in this State, and one of the most celebrated of the world-famed California drivers was a woman. And is it not true that a woman had done what women can do?”Story Prompt: What have you said when people told  you, “You can’t because you’re a girl”? Copy of 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: How Does Our Passion Attract Other People?

Copy of 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: How Does Our Passion Attract Other People?

Hello to you listening in Barrigada Village, Guam!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Interestingly, the word passion finds its root in both the Latin word passiō and the Greek word pathos, which both mean “suffering” suggesting that the things we care most about come from a place of suffering rather than joy.Today, passion means having very strong feelings about or a strong belief in something that moves you to action. Have we lost the notion of suffering? Not really. While the intent of the word has been diluted consider that being passionate is engaging in an intense desire to go toward your dreams. When you are truly passionate, you are motivated such that you are willing to endure pain and suffering to achieve your goals.Passion is what drives us. It helps us build our purpose and goals, our knowledge and capability. When we are deeply  passionate our excitement attracts other people, as in this example: “If you catch fire with enthusiasm people will come from miles around to watch you burn. Now THAT’s being passionate!”Question: What goal or dream might have the potential to set you on fire with enthusiasm and passion?  You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my monthly NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: What 4 Words Might Help You Problem Solve

Hello to you listening in Union County, Ohio!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Oftentimes we’re stuck solving a problem because we just don’t know where to begin. I have an idea. 4 problem-solving words: Result + Reach + Resistance + Resources.Result:  Start at the end of the story. What result do you want to get by solving this problem? What’s the goal here?Reach:   What are you reaching for that solving this problem will get you? What’s beyond the problem?Resistance:  How are you standing in your own way? What is holding you back from solving the problem?  Resources:  Start by being your own best resource. Then ask who and what other resources you can draw on to help you solve the problem.    Practical Tip:  When you start doubting yourself, remember how far you’ve come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome. Now, put those 4 problem-solving words to use and solve what’s in front of you. 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: How Do We Turn an Undesirable Result Into an Opportunity?

60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: How Do We Turn an Undesirable Result Into an Opportunity?

Hello to you listening in Desert Hot Springs, California!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Recently a friend said that she was struggling because the job she had she didn’t want, the job she wanted she didn’t get, so she felt like a failure. Is there an alternative? What if we look objectively at the lost job opportunity as an experiment that didn’t produce the expected results.  Does that mean it failed? Not if we look at it as a data point, information pointing you in a better direction. Jonas Salk (American virologist & inventor of the polio vaccine) once said, “There is no such thing as a failed experiment, because learning what doesn't work is a necessary step to learning what does.” Or, as the famous American jazz musician Louis Armstrong said, “It’s taken me all my life to learn what not to play.”  Practical Tip: Think of a time when you believed you had failed but you figured out how to turn that experience into an opportunity and grow toward your better self. How did you do that?  What will help you do it again and again?  You will because you’ve got what it takes! You know how to experiment! You You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts.
