In Volume 89 of Sounds Like Radio it's time for The Great Gildersleeve from March 29, 1950 as our boy Gildy invites the persnickety old Judge Hooker to stay at his house while the Judge's place is being de-bugged!   Now Gildy has to suffer with the Judge's health food diet, Birdy has to cook it and Gildy's headed for the couch!    Oh dear, what a house guest.   Well to help out the situation we offer some of the finest music you haven't heard in quite a while, listen as Dean Martin, Helen O'Connell, Bing Crosby, Julie London, Jackie DeShannon (pictured here) and even the great actor Jeff Chandler sings a little ditty all for Gildy's and our benefit.  It's a fun show filled with mirth and music.

From Volume 79 of our Vast Library of Sound comes the funniest show on radio, The Phil Harris Alice Faye Show.  Today Phil's looking to train little Alice how to sing then Frankie helps Phil look for a new singer for the show.  It's a funny one originally broadcast January 14, 1951.  Your Humble Host invites you to have a laugh with us.  Enjoy.

In Volume 86 of Sounds Like Radio we find Gildy creating a kitchen spatula-knife with his name on it for Katherine, his sweetie.   Katherine's knife is broken and our man Gildersleeve invents a knife everyone seems to like.   Let's get creative with Gildy in this Great Gildersleeve from March 8, 1950.    Even our great host of singers contribute a few ideas of their own for names for a knife.   As we enjoy the sounds of Jo Stafford, Sammy Davis Jr., then Bing Crosby enters the studio with his idea, Betty Boop goes barefoot in the winter, Al Jolson has a grand name in mind for the knife, Jimmy Dean tells us about a frilly shirt and Ella Fitzgetald says it's all good.    Your Humble Host agrees, it is all good and it's all here for you now!     

Tonight Sam Spade’s called in to solve the Dead Duck Caper. I wonder if Sam even likes Duck? The great Howard Duff is back again as the wise cracking private eye who's never out of wild ideas. Welcome to Sounds Like Radio Volume 85.  As Marjorie prepares for the wedding it’s shower time now but what will the men do?  Marjorie asks Gildersleeve to take Bronco’s father out on the town.  So off they go, Joseph Kearns (Dennis The Menace’s Mr. Wilson) as Bronco’s father and Gildy they have a rather surprising time too.  Listen for the fun with "Mr. Wilson" & Gildy in this March 1, 1950 show. A trip down memory lane for me as I was still in High School when I recorded this tape for the ages and little did I realize for you too.  Today another one of my very own exclusive Jean Shepherd tapes I recorded on October 25, 1974.  Now it's Volume 77 of Sounds Like Radio's Library of Sound.   In this one Jean's all set to talk about the many many Talents of the Oaf.  The oafs are proud too to show off their varied talents.    Sit back and relax and join Jean as he marvels at the oaf.

We’re back with another NEW 2021 Christmas Special!  This is Volume 7 of our series of Christmas Special shows featuring the greatest Christmas music you may not have heard in a while and a Great Gildersleeve Christmas show too. We started our Christmas Sounds Like Radio shows in 2020 with Volumes 1 thru 5 (we keep them available on this podcast to you all year long for those who like Christmas music even when it’s not Christmas time). This year we’ve presented Volume 6 and now here’s Volume 7! This is the Great Gildersleeve episode we had to skip a couple months ago since this is a Christmas show from December 21, 1949 when Marjorie & Bronco have a very special announcement and Gildy has a very touching gift for Marjorie. This is one of the best written episodes of the Gildy series. This is the main reason we present the Great Gildersleeve each week, it was such a quality written show, amusing and at times quite touching and emotional. I think you’re going to really like these. From October 3, 1955 here’s our Monday edition of this week’s story.

Volume 74 with The Great Gildersleeve November 23, 1949 episode.  This is the show where the winner was announced of the Name That Gildersleeve Song contest.  Also you’ll hear the Jolly Boys as they want to form their own band with Gildy on the trombone. Now for an explanation, we had to skip this show when it was originally scheduled after Sounds Like Radio's Vol. 73 (that was the 11/16/49 episode) BECAUSE this episode mentions Thanksgiving that is coming up. So while I wouldn’t call this a Thanksgiving show, it is mentioned, so we saved it for now at this “more convenient hour” or in this case more relevant time period. By the way that's Tammy Wynette (seen in our fall type picture on our Anchor podcast site next to this show) who will sing a moving song in today's show.   Next Week we will feature our Classic Thanksgiving Holiday Show with all the fixin’s!!

Sounds Like Radio’s Library of Sound Volume 45 is proud to present for the first time a radio detective classic that I’ve loved since I first heard it. It’s Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar st. the best Johnny Dollar – Bob Bailey! This show has always reminded me of my favorite TV detective show, Mannix. This is like a radio version of Mannix and I think you’re going to enjoy it as much as I. Here is an episode called “The Kirby Will Matter” originally broadcast February 2, 1957.  But it’s here now direct from the Vast Library of Sound just for you.

In another exclusive Shep show from our Library of Sound Volume 38 it's a Jean Shepherd eerie type story.  Listen as he tells of the time he drove thru the Black Forest of Romania, Dracula country!  It was not a lot of fun either. Ahh, romance is in the air.  Least Gildy plans it to be.  The Great Gildersleeve (January 18, 1950) invites his girl, Kathrine Milford, over to cook dinner(!). Saddle Up & Get Ready to Ride Out for Western Cowboy Adventure!   Yeah, I can't hide my enthusiasm for these great Hoppy westerns.  Today from our Vast Library of Sound Volume 36 we have another great Hopalong Cassidy classic radio show for you "Bad Medicine At Rimrock" from January 13, 1951.  Hoppy's original sidekick California is back where he belongs as played by the original California himself the wonderful Andy Clyde!   Who will always be Cully from the Timmy & Lassie shows or George McMichael from the Real McCoys to me.   Hoppy & California look into another intriguing case.  I can't wait, hit that play button already! 

From the Sounds Like Radio Vast Library of Sound Volume 35 comes another neat little classic Bing Crosby radio show. Your Humble Host is proud to present the June 8, 1956 show where Ken & Bing discuss diets and where the music is never far behind.  Listen and enjoy as your Humble Hosts Sings Like Bing and we listen to another rare one together.

Sounds Like Radio Volume 78 is here and we see the Great Gildersleeve (1/11/50) and the Jolly Boys all doing their part to help a "DP" from France.   While they try to help out they should also have tried to help me pronounce the many French woids I have had to mangle in this French themed show.   But the good news is some of the best Frenchie type music from Doris Day (pictured here in French style), Bing Crosby, Eartha Kitt, Dean Martin, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Nat King Cole & Sarah Vaughn.   Settle back and enjoy listening to me stumble over French and hear that great music and Gildy all go French while all in English.  

From our Vast Library of Sound Volume 34 comes a classic Jean Shepherd radio show vintage September 1974 as he talks about school days with Miss E. McCullough teaching Shakespeare and reading assignments.  It’s back to school time with Shep and for all of us.  You'll be singing the blues with Shep but at least this time no one has to stay after school.   As Miss E. McCullough says, "Enjoy, Enjoy".

From the Vast Library of Sound Volume 33 we have something pretty special for you today as we present a Jack Benny Show from April 4, 1948 with special guests The Ink Spots & our very own Bing Crosby!   This is a funny show with a rare appearance from one of Sounds Like Radio's favorite singers, The Ink Spots.   Also you'll hear a famous Jack Benny comedy routine.  Bing & Jack have a little comedy patter and Bing sings a song as do The Ink Spots.   A funny program with great singers, what more could you want?   Give it a listen and smile a while.

In today’s Sounds Like Radio Episode 77 we find The Great Gildersleeve worried about making a good impression with Bronco’s parents. A special treat also will be to hear Joseph Kearns (TV’s Mr. Wilson on Dennis The Menace) portray Bronco’s father.  It’s a get together celebration between the Gildy family and the Bronco family today on the January 4, 1950 episode. In Sounds Like Radio’s Volume 73 the REAL identity & origin of the supposed Gildersleeve song is revealed.  Your Humble Host just knew it was not really a Gildy song.  We play you the original song which came 4 years before the Gildy show. Then in today’s 11/16/49 Gildy episode Gildersleeve tries to get Marjorie’s boyfriend, Bronco a job at the water department where Gildy works.  Is it possible?  Well, we open up the spickets of good music at this news as we listen to the great sounds of Dennis Morgan, Eva Cassidy, Mercy, then Grandpa is woken from his nap, Al Jolson starts a song, as Jim Reeves, Bing Crosby, Rosalie Allen and Nancy Sinatra all continue the great musical parade.
