A top tip that we touch on is the importance of reaching out to others and how your network and community can contribute to your podcast's success. Ashleigh shares her experience as a podcast host and her advice on 'feeling productive.'We had such a great conversation about Asheligh's podcasting, and she made some brilliant observations about how she needs to build in more time to record as she knows there's an emotional toll due to the nature of the subject. Warm up your Voice with Nic Redman

Warm up your Voice with Nic Redman

I chat with Nic Redman about your voice in this week's episode! Nic is a voice coach and helps podcasters get their voices ready to record. Nic shares that it's about prepping your voice so you don't have to think about it whilst you're recording. The exercises that she recommends (and are featured in her book "On the Mic") can help overcome the barriers and hang-ups we all have about our voices. Nic is a big advocate of warming up your voice and is great for regulating your breath, releasing tension and helping with nerves that can affect your speech. It's not about changing your accent or the way you talk but making your voice and speech sound the best they can be. I find the whole thing rather fascinating and am surprised I haven't heard more about this in the podcasting space. About NicNic Redman has recorded and spoken for a living for nearly 20 years and coaches people to feel vocally free and at home on the mic, every day. She has been featured multiple times on BBC and Times Radio as well as in The Guardian, Irish Times and the Metro. Nic coaches 1-2-1, and runs residential retreats, online courses and in-person masterclasses. She often guests on podcasts, speaks at conferences and speaks on panels offering insights into spoken voice training and recording for voiceover, podcasting, business and public speaking. Podcasting Lessons Learnt with Sarah Giffrow

Podcasting Lessons Learnt with Sarah Giffrow

This week on the show is Sarah Giffrow, sharing with us the lessons she learnt when she started a podcast in 2020.Here are the things she learnt:Be realistic with your time and consider what's happening in your life now.Perfectionism holds you back.Don't get caught up with the sound of your own voice!PRO TIP: Try listening back to yourself every day to get used to the sound of your voice. Remember to be kind - NO JUDGEMENT!There's a learning curve with new tech, especially editing tools.PRO TIP: Do your own research and experiment with different tools to see which work for you best.It might help to listen to a past episode I recorded about How to publish your podcast Just to get you started with your research!Keep the format simple and let the conversation flow."Comparison is the road to abandoned projects." Sarah is 100% right here! The comparison game is one I struggle with too and it DOES NOT HELP!!Thanks, Sarah for sharing your experience!About My GuestSarah’s path was set in the days of the Old Internet--she was raised in an unusually tech-savvy household, and she hand-coded her very first webpage in 1995.Her online marketing studio, Upswept Creative, was born out of her side hustle as a photographer, where she often found herself seized by the irrepressible urge to help her photography clients improve their websites. In her spare time, she can be found lifting heavy barbells, refereeing roller derby, cuddling her spicy meatball of a toddler, and giving all the pets to her extremely food-motivated tuxedo cat, Zergling.Sarah's website Connect with Sarah on LinkedInIf you have any questions or would like some help with your podcast, book a podcast enquiry call. Podcast Insights with Nikki

Podcast Insights with Nikki

Welcome to episode 41! This week I chat with Nikki, the host of the Stories that Connect Us podcast. Nikki started her podcast in March 2022 (like me!) and she shares with us her journey to creating her podcast. We chat about why Nikki wanted to start a podcast, her love of audio, how she leapt into starting her podcast, managing success, how she handled the tech side, and podcast promotion. Nikki's top piece of advice for those of you looking to start is to take messy action. I LOVE this! "Life is not neat and in boxes. It is not highs and no lows. It is messy at times. And so I would say, let's get messy with our action and we will learn and grow along the way."This really resonated with me, sometimes I feel frozen to act because I'm going to do something 'wrong' and I should know everything. Messy Action perfectly describes how we can move forward, dropping all the perfectionism ideas and accepting that life's just not like that. Thanks so much, Nikki for coming on and sharing with us. About Nikki Nikki is a storyteller and podcast host of Stories That Connect Us, in each episode she looks at the highs, lows and messy middle of life. The show was launched in Mar 2022 with a mission to unite people through the power of storytelling. Everyone has a story. Our stories matter. The hope is that people feel connected through the stories shared and can listen, learn, and be inspired. As a Certified Breath Coach, Nikki wants to give people back the gift of breath, something that can be in the back pocket when there’s a need to find balance or stillness. She aims to help people unlock and optimise their breathing. Busy, stressed, anxious and tired but wired - breath coaching can help manage the struggles of modern-day living. Hello 2023! I'm starting this year off with a brilliant chat with Devin Lee (Certified Online Business Manager and Certified Dubsado Specialist)I wanted Devin to come on and talk to you guys because she has been featured on quite a lot of different podcasts talking about her zone of genius and it got me thinking about how it's a great way to create more visibility in your business as you're getting in front of their audiences.I thought it might be quite a good strategy for someone who is thinking about starting a podcast and either might not have time to create the podcast themselves at the moment or would just kind of like to see whether they enjoy podcasting. We chat about why Devin wanted to guest on different podcasts and I love how she uses it to build her network and relationships. Devin shares her advice on how she started researching which podcasts to go on and setting goals based on how many pitches she wanted to do per month/quarter. Devin's biggest learn from her experience is how you need to give it some time and the process will start to feel a lot easier! To finish up, Devin shares about her upcoming Quarterly Planning Party. I took part in the first round of this and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! If you have some projects (like a podcast) that you need to get off the ground and plan then this may be the accountability you need! About my guest! Native versus Scheduled social media posting: Does it make a difference?

Native versus Scheduled social media posting: Does it make a difference?

In this week's episode, I'm talking about the results from my experiment to post natively on social media (LinkedIn & Instagram)You may remember last month when I decided to post natively for 4 weeks to see if there was any difference in my engagement on LinkedIn and Instagram as opposed to scheduling using a 3rd party tool which may offend the Algorithm Gods. What did I find? Linkedin [1.00 min]When comparing October's scheduled posts and November's native posts, there isn't much difference. I did get more video engagement posting natively, but impressions-wise, the months were very similar. I have been engaging with the platform much more recently so I think that has a lot to do with it. Instagram [5.00 min]The results are a bit mixed! I've doubled my reach but halved my engagement! The reach has expanded because I've been posting more stories and reels. My Take Away [9.27min]Not forgetting to do that all-important engagement piece. And not just with your current audience, finding new people to genuinely connect with and start building those relationships with. I personally don't feel that posting natively or scheduling makes a lot of difference! If you have any questions or would like some help with your podcast, book a podcast enquiry call. Should I do a Video Podcast?

Should I do a Video Podcast?

In this week's episode, I'm talking about Video podcasts! I'm not here to tell you should/shouldn't be doing a video podcast! It's a personal decision as to which you prefer but I'd like to talk about them and look at some benefits that could come out of using video for your podcast. YouTube as a search engine - a popular choiceIncrease your SEO and reach if you put it on as many platforms as possible. Spotify - can upload videos to this platform now. Will play the video only on Spotify and send the audio to the other platforms. One of my clients does this. Shout out to Hannah & Nicole from Showing Up Solo. Some of you may remember them coming on the show to offer insights into what it's like to set up a podcast. If you're a solopreneur looking for help with your marketing then I strongly recommend you check them out. You can get some great video clips to use to promote your podcast. These work well, like audiograms. You can even turn the clips into reels which get really good reach on Instagram. Your audience gets to put a face to the name! Video doesn't work so well if you're not great on camera. If it makes you feel uncomfortable and less likely to show up then don't put that added pressure on yourself. I prefer to record just the audio for my podcast. I can show up on video but it's something I struggle with and could become a barrier for me. You need to make your podcast work for you, if that's video great, and if it's audio, that's great too! If you have any questions or would like some help with your podcast, book a podcast enquiry call. Can I ask a favour? How Do I know if my Podcast is a Success?

How Do I know if my Podcast is a Success?

In this week's episode, I'm talking about how do I know if my podcast is a success? There are many ways in which you can measure the success of your podcast. Number of ListensNumber of downloads You can find this information easily within the platform you use to publish your episodes. You can also go into individual platforms like Apple Podcasts to find out analytics. It's not just about the numbers. Think back to why you started your podcast...Was it simply to have 1000 downloads a week? Or was it to add value to your audience? or to build your authority in your zone of genius? If you're not happy with the size of your listenership, what can you do to grow it? Here are a few tips: Ensure your episode content is something that your ideal listener wants to hear. Are you promoting it enough? Make sure you have a range of posts and utilise your email list and website so everyone knows about your podcast! Are you engaging with your listeners? do you reply to comments and thank people for reviews? Do they know where to leave a review? Can you offer more support to your listeners like a Facebook group? you could encourage listeners into the group to discuss the episodes, or go live to answer their questions. Don't be disheartened. It takes time to grow an audience and podcasting is a long game. Be consistent and committed. I hope this has helped. If you'd like to ask any questions, get some advice or just chat podcasts you're more than welcome to book a call! Ready, Steady...Launch!

Ready, Steady...Launch!

Welcome back after my little summer break! In this week's episode, I'm talking about launching your podcast. If you're ready to launch then you will have done all your planning and prep beforehand.if you're listening to this and you're not quite ready to launch then take a look at some of my previous episodes to help you on your way. Once you have a launch date, work backwards to plan your marketing campaign.Plan a mixture of posts :- audiograms/video clips of you have them.- Record a video (if you're comfortable) announcing your podcast or go live on Instagram or Facebook. - Use your podcast branding and design some graphics in Canva- Pick some quotes from your episodes that will resonate with your audience.I'd recommend using a social media scheduler to do this. I use a mixture of Meta Business suite for Instagram & FaceBook and Buffer.Email List - if you have one, utilise it! Keep your audience up to date.Basically, tell everyone about your upcoming podcast!Launching with 3 episodes and a trailer:I've done some research on this and there are some valuable points for and against it.You could launch with your trailer (released before) and 3 episodes. This way once people are listening and they love it, they can binge a few episodes. This is how I chose to launch this podcast.Top tip: Don't forget to do is promote the episodes that are launched altogether. You could tease some of the clips as part of your pre-launch promotion.OR you can launch with a trailer and 1 episode. I did this for my first podcast, The Virtually Inspiring podcast.Throw a virtual launch party! I've not done this but know a few people who have done this.It can be a great way to get everyone excited about the podcast. If you have phone numbers then you can create a Whatsapp group and get everyone involved this way.Shout out to HR Directors Cut as this was their strategy.
