Navigating Past Traumas: The Role of Community and Empathy in Healing
Y'all, I came in frazzled today without even an affirmation prepared! clutches pearls I know, I know, that's just unheard of for your girl. But I've got all kinds of deep thoughts swirling around in this happy ass mind of mine that I can't wait to dive into with you wonderful humans.I really wanted to pick your brains about emotions, trauma, and why programs like therapy and support groups can be so darn powerful. There's some real science magic happening! My Personal Journey: I opened up about the physical symptoms I started experiencing after my dad got sober when I was just 13 years old. Horrible stomach aches, headaches, you name it! Luckily, hypnotherapy (yes, really!) taught me invaluable coping skills. The Power of Sharing Your Story: Here's the good word - trauma actually lessens when you share it with others. It's wild, but they've seen it in actual brain studies! Our society isn't really set up for communal healing like other cultures.Your Heartfelt Challenge From Me:If you're suffering from past trauma, pent-up emotions, or anything leaving you feeling unseen/unheard, please don't keep stuffing it down. Reach out to someone you trust and be vulnerable. Share your story - it's scientifically proven to help! Also, let's all make an effort to listen with open hearts when others confide in us. A little love and understanding go a long way in this beautifully messy journey called life.Let's Keep Spreading the Loving Energy!Don't forget to share your own stories, breakthroughs, or #humanmoments over on @myhappyasslife. Here's What's on the Motivational Agenda Today:An "A-Ha" Moment from Jamie Kern Lima's Book "Worthy": Let me tell you about the difference between self-confidence and true self-worth - that deep-seated knowledge that you ARE enough, just as you are.The Circle vs. The Cage: Who you surround yourself with can lift you up (the circle of supportive people) or hold you back (the cage of negativity). I'm passionately reminding all of us to cultivate circles of love, kindness, and positivity.Whose Voice Are You Listening To? The Power Of Imperfections: How Our Flaws Propel Us Foward
Hey There, Friends! 🌟Welcome back to our cozy corner of the world where we chat about how to become stronger in mind, body, and spirit. Our mission is to spread kindness and positivity wherever we go. Recently, I had a moment of reflection during our discussion, and I realized that it is the wonderful atmosphere we have created together that allows us to embrace our flaws and imperfections without judgment.A Little Story Time:Today, I want to share something interesting that I learned from the book "Chop Wood, Carry Water" about golf balls. I found out that golf balls can fly further when they have little dimples from being knocked around, rather than when they are smooth. This fact got me thinking about life and how our own "dimples" or rough patches can actually help us go further.Reflecting on Real Life:It wouldn't be fair to have a conversation without mentioning my brother, Stuart. He was a man who had everything going for him but struggled with challenges that eventually consumed him. His story, in addition to the fact that golf balls have quirks, emphasizes the idea that our struggles and imperfections shape our identity. Avoiding anything that diminishes our spirit, such as certain TV shows that don't feel right, is a way of respecting our growth.Wrapping Up with a Big Hug:As we bid farewell today, let's not yearn for a life that is easier, with more talents or better opportunities. Instead, let's treasure our own distinct journeys, with all its imperfections and obstacles, and face our goals with unwavering love and courage. Remember, I am here to root for you every step of the wayStep Out with Your Best Self:Take your wonderful, one-of-a-kind self out there and let's light up the world together. Your unique spark is exactly what's needed.Catch you next time, with all my love. Be sweet, y'all. 🌈

The Gift of Hindsight: Embracing Life's Unexpected Lessons
In Today’s Episode:Come along as I open up about something really personal: my upcoming doctor's visit for my clogged arteries. I talk about how scared I am of the thought of surgery and how facing this challenge has taught me to see the good in tough times.A Change of Heart:I share how getting COVID-19 made me change my ways. Before, I used to ignore health warnings, but this experience made me see the importance of taking care of my health. It was a big lesson in why we sometimes need to fail to learn something important.Learning from Mistakes:I tell stories from my life and work to show how sometimes we learn more from failing than from winning. Success can make us overlook things, but when we fail, we're forced to look closer, figure out what went wrong, and discover new chances to grow.Sticking to It:I get real about my fitness journey—the good times and the hard ones. My motto is, "It's not win or lose, it's win or learn." This means every time something doesn't go as planned, it's just another chance to get better.Inspired by My Daughter:I share a touching moment about how my daughter wrote something inspiring in a Dolly Parton book, reminding us all to dream big, even when we're scared. This connects back to our main point about learning valuable lessons from our setbacks.Join Our Conversation:I really want to hear from you all about your own stories of turning failures into lessons. Share with us in the comments or on our social media. It's all about creating a place where we celebrate growing through hard times together.Keep This in Mind:Remember, failing doesn't mean you're off track; it's just a part of the journey to finding out more about yourself and reaching new goals. With each challenge, we learn, adjust, and keep moving forward, guided by the lessons we've learned along the way.Until Next Time, keep facing life's challenges head-on, seeing them as chances to change and get better. I'm A Winner
Hey, my lovely Happy Asses! It's Karen! and wow, do I have a tale to tell you today. It's all about victories, the small ones, the big ones, and especially those personal wins that feel like we've snagged an Academy Award. So, snuggle up, and let's dive into this heart-to-heart.What's Buzzing Today:Celebrating One Year of Fitness with Jennifer Berg: Can you believe it? It's been a whole year since I started my fitness journey, and, oh, the rollercoaster it has been! I've had my ups and downs, but the key takeaway? I didn't quit. I'm here, fighting the good fight, because, let's face it, it's me against me.Inspiration from the Stars: I stumbled upon Mel Robbins' podcast featuring Nisa Nesbitts, and her story just lit a fire in me. Losing four times in a row and then finally winning? That's the kind of spirit I'm talking about. It reminded me that I don't need an Academy Award to feel like a winner. Each day I show up for my workout, I'm winning.Size 2 and Proud: Okay, I'm going to brag a little—your girl went from a size 6 to a size 2! Sure, I'm not exactly where I want to be, but dang, I'm proud of how far I've come. The real win? Never missing a single gym day. That's commitment, and that's something to celebrate. It's Me Against Me: This journey has taught me so much about personal accountability. You can't blame anyone or anything for where you are. It's all about how you face yourself, how you push past the old you to become someone even better. David Goggins' story? Just wow. If he can do it, so can we.Golf, Life, and Self-Esteem: Did you know I love golf? It's all about personal improvement, just you against the course. And that's how life is, too. It's not about competing with others; it's about bettering yourself, one swing at a time.Moving Creates Opportunities: Life meets you halfway when you start moving. Opportunities come knocking when you take action, not just when you're motivated. So, let's keep moving, keep trying, and keep getting up every time we stumble.Today's Heartfelt Reminder:It's me against me. My life, my attitude, my success—it's all in my hands. Every day is a chance for renewal, for letting go of the past, and for embracing the best version of myself. Remember, what others think of me is their business; how I see myself is what truly matters. So, to all of you on your own journeys, look inward, tap into that divine talent within, and know that you've got this. Don't let the world dictate your path; carve it with your own hands, with God's grace lighting the way.New episdoes every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Finding Growth in Chaos

It's a story about loss, search, and, hopefully, eventual discovery.🙏 From Tangled Webs to Tender Apologies: A Lesson in KindnessLiving with Gratitude: Today, I share an anecdote about a minor spat with my brother over his favorite expression, "tangled web." It reflects patience, the importance of kindness, and the humility in apologizing. It's a reminder that the most significant lessons sometimes come from the smallest moments.🔄 Self-Care amid Mayhem: Returning to RootsLife's Echoes: In today's episode, I touch upon my return to a 12-step program, a decision inspired by recognizing my patterns and the desire to find a balance between responsibility and self-neglect. It's a candid look at personal growth, the ongoing journey of self-care, and the courage to confront our flaws with grace.🎙️ Finding Calm in the ChaosFinal Thoughts: As we wrap up today's episode, remember that amidst the lost computers, misplaced journals, and daily dilemmas, there's beauty in the breakdown. In these moments of vulnerability and disarray, we often find our true strength and path to personal growth. Dont Wait
Hello, Beautiful Souls! It's Karen Smith, your host, welcoming you back to another episode of My Happy Ass LIfe! Today, I'm overflowing with thoughts and insights, especially about gratitude. I've always believed that a little bit of gratitude goes a long way, and I'm excited to delve into how these small changes can make a big impact on our lives.1. The Significance of Small ChangesIn today’s episode, I discuss the importance of recognizing that life-altering changes don't always have to be monumental. Sometimes, it's the minor shifts, the small steps we take, that accumulate and lead us to our biggest breakthroughs. Remember, it's not always about the giant leaps; often, it's about those little inches that move us forward.2. Lessons from "Chop Wood Carry Water"I shared a story from one of my favorite books, "Chop Wood Carry Water". It beautifully illustrates how minor adjustments in our actions or mindset, as simple as how we stand, can have profound effects on our outcomes. This analogy isn't just about archery; it's a metaphor for life. Each tiny choice or change, as insignificant as it might seem, adds up and can drastically alter our path.3. The Impact and Importance of GratitudeI firmly believe the 'tweak' we often need in life is gratitude. If there's one 'Happy Ass Tip' I want you to remember, it's to practice immense gratitude. It's a game-changer. Waiting for the perfect moment to feel grateful is a trap; gratitude is a choice we make, and it's available to us at any moment.4. Finding Gratitude in Everyday LifeDuring the tougher phases of my life, I find myself practicing gratitude more intensely. It can be for the simplest of things, like someone picking up my trash. It's about finding magic in the mundane and appreciating the intricate, beautiful tapestry of life.5. Today's AffirmationI shared an affirmation that deeply resonates with me:Don't wait. Don't wait for healing to feel gratitude. I start with gratitude. It is not a feeling, it is my choice. Heaven gives me hundreds of reasons for gratitude each day.Irrepressible optimism is my superpower. Focusing on what's right attracts more goodness. I believe in my mind's power to manifest positive change. My daily practice is gratitude in all seasons, and so it is.6. Living by PrinciplesLastly, I touched upon living life guided by principles, not fleeting emotions. This philosophy has been my cornerstone, guiding me through life's ups and downs.Your Turn! Now, I want to hear from you. What are three things you’re grateful for today? Write them down, feel them in your heart, and see the difference it makes.Until next time, keep those eyes happy and hearts full. Sending you love, hope, joy, and an abundance of gratitude. Peace of me to all of you!Karen Smith

Change isn't just about big leaps; it's about those small, consistent steps forward.🏋️♀️ The Struggle and Persistence in Fitness JourneyCelebrating my one-year fitness journey anniversary, I opened up about the ups and downs and the persistence it takes. It's not about perfection; it's about progress and not giving up. Even if you've started and stopped multiple times, what matters is that you keep moving.🏡 Embracing Compassion in Goal SettingWe then dived into setting goals with compassion. I emphasized the importance of being kind to ourselves when things don't go as planned and the power of small steps towards big quests.📘 Victor Frankl's Steps to a Life of MeaningI revisited Frankl's three steps to a life of meaning: creating work you believe in, experiencing captivating encounters, and having an optimistic attitude towards life's challenges. These steps are a roadmap to a fulfilled and meaningful life.🌈 Affirmation and ConclusionAnd of course, we wrapped up with our uplifting affirmation, emphasizing the importance of motion in finding meaning. This affirmation is your little nudge to keep moving, growing, and embracing life's messy, beautiful journey.🌟 Parting ThoughtsI shared my thoughts on growth and the importance of compassion in accelerating personal development. Throw It Down
Hello, my lovely listeners! This is Karen Smith, your host for "My Happy Ass Life," bringing you another episode that's all about enriching your life in every way possible. Today's episode is a journey into the world of nutrition and its incredible impact on our mind, body, and spirit. I'm thrilled to share my insights and personal experiences on this topic! What We Covered:My Passion for Nutrition: I opened up about my college days where my love for nutrition began. Life took some interesting turns, including becoming a mother and later pursuing a career in education. Despite these changes, my fascination with nutrition remained a constant in my life. The Mind, Body, Spirit Connection: We dove deep into how these three elements are intrinsically linked. Achieving balance and health in one aspect invariably influences the others. I shared my own challenges with weight management and how I find humor and motivation in likening myself to Garfield.A Closer Look at the Ketogenic Diet: This part of our conversation explored the origins of the ketogenic diet, which surprisingly wasn't for weight loss. We discussed how this diet, focusing on low carbs, moderate protein, and high fat, initially aimed to control seizures and has since shown potential benefits for weight loss and diabetes management.Nutrition and Mental Health: Here, we touched on the groundbreaking revelations about how our diet can positively affect our mental health. It's fascinating to consider that our food choices, sleep patterns, and stress levels can have such a profound impact on our mental state. The Significance of Mindful Eating: Inspired by a podcast with Mel Robbins, I talked about how mindful eating and nutrition are being utilized to assist individuals with ADHD and even Schizophrenia.Letting Go of What Doesn't Serve Us: I got personal here, discussing the importance of releasing things that no longer serve our well-being – whether it's certain foods, habits, or negative thoughts. I also shared a heartfelt affirmation I wrote in 2020 about embracing the full life we are meant to live.Key Takeaway:Our conversation today reinforced the idea that what we consume isn't just about physical nourishment; it's about feeding our minds and souls as well. It's vital to find what resonates with our unique needs and make choices that elevate our overall well-being.Closing Thoughts:As we wrapped up, I pondered a question by Bob Goff: "What would love do?" This beautifully sums up our discussion. There's genuine magic in making choices out of love – for our bodies, minds, and each other. So, let's embrace a life filled with love, health, and joy.Thank you for joining me on this journey. Remember, you are beautiful, and your light is needed in this world. Stay sweet and keep shining!

📚 The Sheer Joy of Reading Multiple BooksKaren's Reading Adventures: So, I've got a confession, y'all! Despite telling myself I'll change this habit, I'm juggling five nonfiction books. Chapter two, "Building Your Own House," struck me a chord. It got me thinking about how every little thing I do is like laying a brick in the house of my life.🏗️ The Tale of Koda: A Story of Lost IntegrityStory Time: Let me share the story of Koda, a character in Metcalf's book. He's a skilled architect who, over time, loses his passion and integrity. Morning Routine
Welcome, Happy Asses! It's Karen here, ready to kickstart another inspiring episode of "My Happy Ass Life." Today, we're diving headfirst into the transformative world of morning routines. Get ready to unlock the secrets of starting your day right!**Setting the Tone: Morning Rituals**We gather to unite our minds, bodies, and spirits, not just for ourselves but also to sprinkle a little more brightness and sweetness into the world we share.**The Morning Metamorphosis**Let's jump straight into the heart of it: your morning routine. Trust me, this is a topic we'll be delving into more because it holds the key to shaping how your entire day unfolds. Ever heard of Hugh Smith, the grumpy morning person?**The Serenity of Meditation**Hugh's story took a delightful twist when he discovered the magic of meditation, particularly transcendental meditation with Prudence, who you might remember from The Beatles' "Dear Prudence." As for me, I'm a fan of guided meditation – repeating positive mantras like "Breathing in the help of God, breathing out the help of God." It's like a soothing mental symphony.**Morning Musings**While some opt for quiet contemplation, others like to dive straight into a good book. My advice? Leave that snooze button alone! Hitting it can lead to the dreaded "sleep inertia," leaving you groggy for hours. Instead, check out Mel Robbins' "The No Snooze Habit" and embrace the energy of a new day.**The High Five Habit: Boosting Positivity**Ever tried giving yourself a high five in the morning? It may sound silly, but it's a powerful way to set a positive tone for the day. It's part of the "High Five Habit" Mel Robbins wrote about, following her famous "Five-Second Rule."**Mastering the Art of Focus**One valuable trick? Don't reach for your phone first thing in the morning. Instead, grab a good book, your meditation guide, or, like me, jot down your gratitudes and affirmations. Start your day on your terms, guided by your inner compass and faith.**Concluding Thoughts: A Sweet Day Ahead**As we wrap up, remember that your mornings hold the power to shape your entire day. Dictate your day with intention, leaving distractions behind. Me and God, we're the conductors of this symphony called life.**Stay Sweet and Connected*I wish you a day as sweet as honey, and I adore you all. See you tomorrow for another dose of "My Happy Ass Life." Stay sweet, y'all! Bye.

Today, I'm opening up about my own journey through personal struggles, realizing potential, and finding joy in life's vibrant colors.Main Themes:Personal Struggles and Organizational Chaos: Let me start by sharing a slice of my life with you all. Recently, I've been grappling with keeping things organized – yes, I haven't made my bed in a month! It's a bit of a mess, but it's also hilariously relatable, isn't it? It's all about how, when things start to slide, they can really go downhill. But, there's always a silver lining and a lesson to be learned.Exploring My Potential and Personal Growth: This is where things get interesting. I've been inspired by Jon Acuff's book, "All You Need Is Gold," and it got me thinking about potential. It's something that's always within us, just waiting to be tapped into. Today, I'm sharing how looking back at what brings me joy – like gardening and my love for vibrant colors – helps guide my future. It's all about finding those little clues in life that lead us to our passions. My Closing Thoughts and Affirmations: To wrap up, I want to share with you an affirmation about embracing potential. Remember, even when we feel lost or overwhelmed, our potential is a constant, always there to guide us towards growth and fulfillment. It's about trusting in that power and walking by the spirit.Affirmation: My PotentialMy potential choosing to walk by the spirit is a habitual way of life. I trust in and rely on God's power. When I feel like I'm losing, I am reminded I am learning. I am learning to live to my potential, which is never lost. I'm alive and full of potential. I want all that God wants for me. Health, abundance, friendships, peace. I am thankful as long as I am alive, my potential is mine to live and to enjoy. And so it is.Today's Assignment:I encourage you to take a moment and reflect on your own life. What are those small joys and passions that could lead to significant discoveries about yourself?
