Ep132 - Dogs That Are Fussy Eaters
If your dog is fussy, it is most likely caused by you and usually because you love your dog so much.
Panos sees fussy dogs regularly and shares some advice to help get your dog eating his food again.
Dogs are not grazing animals and should not have access to food all day long.
Stop feeding from scraps at dinner time etc.
Provide windows of opportunity for your dog to understand there is a time and place when food is available and after a set time the opportunity will go away.
Make your dog understand that food a valuable resource.

Ep130 - Good Dog Training Requires Planning Ahead
A good dog trainer knows the next 10-15 moves in what they are trying to achieve with their dog. This is the concept of "beginning with the end in mind".
Fundamentals may seem "boring" sometimes, but they are all setups for the next stages of training.
Excellence is mastery of the basics!
Be patient with yourself, your dog, and know the desired outcome at the start.
It's not about "fixing" anything, but rather about improving everything piece by piece.

Ep127 - You Can Lead A Horse To Water (But You Can’t Make It Drink)
This is an old saying which refers to the fact that people can ultimately never be forced to actually follow through with anything they are recommended to do, even if they asked for the advice in the first place.
As professional dog trainers we are often asked by pet owners to come in and give our paid opinions on a wide range of behavioural topics relating to dogs.
We always try to put our clients' and their dogs' best interests at the forefront when we are giving advice.
However this doesn't guarantee the advice will be received as was intentioned, nor that the client will follow through with the training after the dog trainer has left.
Luke had noticed a few of his old clients using equipment and methodologies that he'd never recommended, which prompted this discussion.
Tune in as Panos & Luke unpack this week's topic!

Ep126 - Creating, Maintaining & Advancing Momentum
When it comes to skill development, it is a necessity to have momentum and a direction of what you are trying to achieve.
Otherwise, habits and skills are seldom to be to be acquired.
The hardest part is getting started, however, once you get the ball rolling and you have equipped yourself with the correct method, technique and mindset you are likely to reach high levels, if that is what you truly desire.

Ep123 - Don’t Touch my Dog! (Advocating for our animals when out in public)
One of the most common questions that we as professional dog trainers get is, how should pet owners have "those" potentially uncomfortable conversations when it comes to strangers (dogs AND people) looking to interact with our dogs in public?
Many pet owners may feel "awkward" or "mean" for having to advocate for their dog's right to feel safe when they are out and about in the world
It is a total MYTH that stranger dogs should always be allowed to interact with one another, or that your dog should have to accept attention from any person they do not know
Panos & Luke break down the myriad of themes inside this pandora's box and give some practical tips on how to be the LEADER that your dog believes you to be!

There is a big difference between a command and request and knowing the difference is essential to a healthy and respectful communication with your dog.
Panos discusses:
Establishing commands
Learning vs Training and when you start telling your dog to do something.
Following through with correction.
Clarity is key, think about your dog's perspective.
Know when to tell your dog and when to ask your dog to do things.

Ep120 - Interviewing Saharai Salazar, WolfMother K9 Rescue Services
Saharai “Sada” Salazar has been working professionally with canines for over 18 years.
Saharai’s education in domestic animal and wildlife biology with an emphasis on canine studies included behavior, anatomy and physiology, genetics, evolution, and diseases at the University of California, Davis.
Saharai’s passion in working with Fear, Anxiety and Stress (FAS) in dogs, especially fear-based aggression, was cultivated in the Isolation Ward of a county animal shelter.
For several years, she successfully rehabilitated and placed numerous red-listed dogs slated for euthanasia. Behavior modification presented its own special challenges in a shelter environment, which equipped Saharai with a unique set of skills and the knowledge needed to straddle the rescue and behavior worlds.

Ep119 - Accepting Things The Way They Are
Sometimes we take on so much in our day-to-day life, and to make things worse, we suffer more in our head than we actually need to.
In this week's episode, Panos comes back from a week out of Sydney to reflect on a few things: how stress affects learning, teaching, and relationships.
To accept your current situation, whatever it be, your dog's behaviour, pressures of work, feeling overwhelmed with life's demands, etc.
Once you see it for what it is, make plans moving forward, and over time, learn to read these patterns and be proactive.
You are only best for others when you, yourself is at your best, this applies to your relationship and training with your dog and, of course many other factors to other areas of your life.

Ep117 - (The Importance Of) Hanging Out With Your Dog
After a streak of technical training talk, Panos takes the time to remind us that life with our dogs is not only about training.
Take the time to remind yourself what you get from the relationship with your dog and 'EP12- Why we have dogs in our lives' can be a great episode to refer to for a deeper focus on this.
Incorporate training to enhance your life with your dog, to allow for biological fulfilment and establish rules and boundaries, just remember to love your dog and create memories based on what it is you love about dogs.

If you on the podcast could discuss fixing a problem like this where a dog is guaranteed to bark in a certain situation and the steps you would take to rectify. Ep97 - Lost Your Dog? What to do When a Dog Goes Missing (And How to Prevent it!)
Unfortunately as dog trainers it can be a case of "do as I say, not as I do"
In terms of the advice we give out, we trainers can be just as guilty of making silly mistakes ourselves!
This week Panos lost sight of Nuki during a late-night off-leash walk, with no collar or tags, followed by a pretty scary 18-hours spent searching high and low for her
A kind stranger found and returned her safely!
In this episode we go over a list of tips of what to do if your dog ever goes missing
We also reflect on hard lessons learned from this situation!
This rookie error was an experience that prompted deep thought and needs to be shared so that you don't make the same mistakes.
Keep your dog's collar and ID tag on at all times!
Have an attitude of gratitude & go hug your dog.
