Adam is dad to four kids. He has been teaching families the skills of personal protection for over 20 years at his school in New York. In 2006, he recognized a specific need that most men yearned for as Dads, but didn't have the access or understanding to the type of training they needed to truly keep their families safe under any circumstance. On this episode, Julia and Gino interview Father Leo Patalinghug. Born in the Philippines and raised in the Baltimore area, Fr. Leo actually developed his love for cooking while attending the seminary at the North American College in Rome. There, he became friendly with several Italian restaurant owners and would often invite them back to the student kitchen to trade cooking secrets. They would teach him about rigatoni and lasagna; he would show them how to make hamburgers and ribs. Today, he is a skilled cook who still enjoys learning how to make new dishes, and loves the process of preparing a meal, as much as he does sharing it with a table full of friends. Fr. Leo is the host and founder of Grace Before Meals, an apostolate to strengthen families and communities around the dinner table. He is a priest ordained for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, serving as a sacramental and pastoral minister on a part-time basis. On this episode, Jake and Gino interview Ed Parcaut. Born in Burlingame, California, Ed Parcaut moved multiple times between California and Colorado during his childhood. He enlisted in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman to see the world and got to see San Diego, CA. After 18 months in the Navy, it came time to choose a specialty. He ended up studying physical therapy and Emergency Medicine. During the rest of service, he went to college getting a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s in international business and marketing. After getting out of the Navy, he gave the tech world a try before realizing it was not for him. He turned to work for his neighbor’s mortgage company, which is what stuck. Ed’s love for numbers and helping people have kept him in the mortgage field ever since. On this episode, Kristin Colca busts the myth of average rate of return and explains how an investor can calculate actual rate of return taking economic and market dynamics into account. Did you know that although it is widely accepted as an indicator of how an investment may perform in the future the average rate of return can be wildly misleading? If there is any kind of volatility in an asset, taking the average return disguises the recovery time needed when future volatility inevitability occurs.
