The White Power Structure Episode
What can we learn from looking at the history of engagement with corporations and underrepresented communities? Why haven't we learned the lessons of our past and changed the systems and structures that keep inequity in place. Simple, that is the way the way the White Power Structure maintains their power.
This week, a deeply personal story from Torin, and how a NYT article Black Capitalism’ Promised a Better City for Everyone. What Happened? helped Julie to understand it. Also, Salesforce tells TX to shove it, the impact of student debt on women, and the US Census puts out the Poverty Index.

Europe: Back Dat App Up
Are Gig Workers Full-Time Employees? Debate Playing Out in Europe.
Whether or not gig workers will eventually be considered full-time employees is an ongoing debate in parts of the U.S. - think Prop 22 in California - but in Europe, many of these decisions are playing out for us, and the boys dig into this and other topics with special guest Matt Alder of The Recruiting Future Podcast. Also covered is how Google has been illegally underpaying thousands of temporary workers in dozens of countries, including many in Europe. Lastly, the show dives into the recent investment in startup Applied, known for its unbiased hiring service, and whether or not the trend of diversity hiring hits the same in Europe as it does in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Football is in the air and Hail Mary's are flyin' all over the place this week.
Dice pumped $3 million into The Muse ... can you say midlife crisis?
Indeed's master plan. Yes, the seeds of CPAS can be found as far back at 2016 (yep, we did the research) ...but then they neurodiversity themselves - so dumb.
What else?
Amazon is encouraging its contractors to bypass weed background checks,
Trucking gets a good dose of tech with YouCruit's Lanefinder,
and Harvard says automation is to blame for our unemployment problem.
It's another touchdown episode powered by our biggest cheerleaders, JobAdx, Sovren, and Jobvite.

A Texas Maid's Tale: A War on Women in Texas
On Sept 1, Texas put into place the country's most restrictive abortion law and in their most deplorable move yet turned citizens into bounty hunters. SCOTUS provides no injunctive relief allowing nearly 50 years of a women's right to choose to effectively be overturned. Some companies came to the rescue, some continued to donate to the politicians who passed the law. They all still played the game in Texas.

Paradox Takes Pieces Off the Board
The recruiting industry behaves like a chess game sometimes. Pieces can move slowly or quickly, pieces get taken off the board and some get added over time. And like chess, the players who see many moves ahead tend to be the biggest winners. This week saw a lot of chess gamin’. The most impressive move was made by Paradox, but Job.com and Compono made moves too. Another player in iCIMS filed for an IPO to help it reload. Additionally this week, Apple was in the news, along with Uber and Lyft and OnlyFans made its way into the podcast for its second straight week. Enjoy another masterpiece powered by Sovren, JobAdx and Jobvite.

Do You Even Need A Career Site?
Ok let's get Real. How many career sites are actually valuable to candidates? How many are just vanity projects for recruitment marketers, companies and over zealous digital marketing teams? Given today's candidate behavior what value does a career site even provide? Is it time to rethink the whole strategy? Allyn and Tracey taken the topic of career sites and debate whether creating one is even worth it.

Ep 368: Employee Engagement & Disability
People with disabilities represent 15% of the global population but are often left out of diversity initiatives, programs, surveys, and even basic conversations about workplace inclusion. Recent research from Global Disability inclusion and Mercer on the engagement gap of employees with disabilities shows a difference in some areas of up to 13% lower than non-disabled colleagues.
So with many employers seeking to do better with equity, inclusion and belonging, what can they be doing to address this problem.
To help us get some more insights into the issues, my guests this week are the research report authors Meg O’Connell, CEO & Founder of Global Disability Inclusion and Pete Rutigliano, Senior Principal at Mercer.
In the interview, we discuss:
• The State of Disability Employee Engagement Study
• Employer attitudes to disabilities
• Attitudinal barriers and dispelling myths
• Research methodology and scope
• Reasons for the engagement gap
• The employee experience for people with disabilities
• Building the right level of trust to allow people to be themselves
• Hidden disabilities
• The benefits of inclusion
• Lessons from the pandemic
• Hopes and predictions for the coming years

This week Allyn & Tracey spend some time unpacking the the Great Awakening that is occurring in the world of work. Is everyone getting it wrong or right? Is this about people not wanting to work because they are receiving government subsidies and they are afraid of COVID and child care concerns or is this really something bigger? What do we think is happening? What do you think is happening? Pull up a chair, pour a drink of your choice and let's discuss.

▪ Hyper competitive talent markets
▪ Proactive executive talent engagement
▪ Engaging at scale and offboarding conversations quickly.
▪ Involving hiring managers effectively
▪ Unbiasing assessment

Bennett Sung is one of my favourite HR tech marketers, who also happens to be a hiring manager. I have been lucky to know Bennett for around 8 years so you will also find him on page 71 of my book, The Robot-Proof Recruiter.

fax machines and many other things Gen Z may not understand 😉
the zero moment of truth & gathering 'social' evidence
hiring marketers who are not vanilla
Giving Bennett just 3 minutes to pitch Humanly (it is very cool)
Research the history of phrases before you use them 😮

Richard Cho is Head of Recruiting at Robinhood, having previously been with Facebook, Dropbox, Machine Zone and The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Robinhood recently made headlines in the industry by acquiring recruiting firm Binc; I am delighted that Richard agreed to come on the show to talk about Robinhood's strategy and share some hugely valuable insights into the way ahead for talent acquisition.
In the interview, we discuss:
