Today I am interviewing Jeff Harry who is a Positive psychology play coach, who has been featured In NY Times, Mashable, Upworthy, and also an international speaker.
We explored how you can use play to create a great place to work, using play to help with those difficult conversations, dealing with toxic environments and making workplaces psychological safe. Jeff shares really valuable insights in how to focus on what makes employees happy in the workplace, looking to dial up areas of their work where they are in the 'flow', using Google as an example of the 20% program, where they allowed employees to use Friday to focus on what they loved at work - this created an abundance of innovations that came out like Google meet and Adsense.

The key to them is the actions that come out of them, if they are just a tick box exercise then you won't make progress, use the insights to create working workshops to provide solutions - truly engage your teams the process.

BOOST #10 | Are your big goals demotivating you? Here are some tips to create that motivation again
Welcome to this solo series called BOOST, the purpose is to give you little BOOST to your day, to further provide ways to create a thriving organisation.
Are your goals demotivating you?
Sometimes when we look out into the distanced at the goal we are trying to achieve, they can be overwhelming, and at times feel to big, and this can actually demotivate us.
Now I know it is important to set stretching goals, that will accomplish much, but what do we do when they demotivate us.
I was struck by this recently whilst running on the trails, and I looked ahead at a climb of about 250m, and suddenly felt exhausted and overwhelm by the sight of it trying to run up to the top. It was a route I had done many times and was part of the plan of the day.
Here are 4 ways to bring back the motivation:
1. Remember the experience and training that got you here right now
2. Breakdown the goal into bite size pieces, don't try and eat the whole elephant in one!
3. Visualise yourself completing the goal, what will you see, hear and feel?
4. Since you created the goal, then you can assure yourself that you will have all the resources within you to complete it
And finally give yourself some slack - It’s ok to slow the pace down, even if the timings slips, as long as you achieve the goal.

Nicole and I explored the importance of why high performers in your organisation need resilience training since It’s easy to think that high performers are incredibly resilient – that’s how they get so much done, right? And yet, it’s not their great coping skills that makes many high performers shine so bright. Nicole shared some ways to help your manage those high performers like:
Closely monitor the workload of your high performers to make sure they’re not overburdened.
Don’t wait for high performers to tell you they’re doing too much or they’re feeling stressed – they may not even realise it themselves!
Keep a close eye on their mental health.
Offer support in the form of resilience training, coaching and ongoing education around balance, boundaries and the importance of rest and recovery.

Elon Musk has this great mindset quote 'Stop being patient and start asking yourself, how do I accomplish my 10 years plan in 6 months? You will probably fail but you will be lot further ahead of the person who simply accepted it was going to take 10 years.'
We are in charge of how we respond and what we think, create a mindset to go beyond where we are now and ever before. Why can't you achieve the 10 year goal in 2021, nothing is stopping you, only you. Let's hit 2021 with this momentum mindset.

BOOST #7 | How to end and start the year well - reflect, recharge and realign to your purpose
Welcome to this solo series called BOOST, the purpose is to give you little BOOST to your day, to further provide ways to create a thriving organisation.
As we end 2020 and look forward to 2021 it is important to take stock before we move on with purpose.
Use the holiday period to do the following, I call it the 3 R's.
1. Reflect - an important part of life it to reflect on life and use the insights as learnings, along with processing life. Find a place where you reflect the best, this could be outside in the woods.
2. Recharge - take time to recharge your batteries, spend time with friends and yourself, think am I an extrovert or introvert i.e. where do you get your energy from, people or yourself.
3. Realign - realign with your purpose and why, so often we drift away, so get back to it, this will give you focus along with motivation.
Have a wonderful holiday season, and wishing you a prosperous 2021.

BOOST #6 | How to gain the right perspective for greater insight
Welcome to this solo series called BOOST, the purpose is to give you little BOOST to your day, to further provide ways to create a thriving organisation.
Perspectives!
Perspective is just a point of view.
If we realise that it is only that, a point of view, it will really help us in our quest to understand others better.
It may appear as the truth, but really it is only true to ourselves.
So if we are to become effective and engaging leaders, we need to fully understand others and their point of view, this does not mean we have to agree, but get a fully picture of what might be the truth.
So before you jump to conclusions on someone’s action/motive, I would pause and try to gain a few different perspectives/options to gain a fuller understanding.
Often I use a NLP technique with my coaching clients called Perceptual Positioning, it is a vey effective way to gain different perspectives on a situation, especially in a conflict one.

BOOST #5 | Switching to a thriving mindset
Welcome to this solo series called BOOST, the purpose is to give you little BOOST to your day, to further provide ways to create a thriving organisation.
Firstly, what is a thriving mode?
Thriving is living and thinking abundantly.
Thriving is joyful and infectious.
Thriving is having plenty of energy and inspiration.
So how to do we switch to a thriving mode?
Here are some ways that will help you do that.
Commit that you will choose to find the good in every circumstance, no matter the circumstance, there are always possibilities - Remember failure is just feedback on your journey!
Fill your life with POSITIVITY not negativity – some ways to do that:
Remind yourself of your purpose and Why, and keep focused on it. This remains the same despite your circumstances.
Practice gratitude as this elicits a positive state as it releases dopamine and serotonin, two neurotransmitters that are responsible for our feel-good emotions.
Celebrate success no matter how small. Do this on a personal level and on an individual level but also do it on a team level. Look for achievements on a daily and weekly basis.

The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood
who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly.
True courageous leadership is about:
Stepping into the arena and being seen, and being comfortable not knowing the outcome. Are we in time of not knowing right now? We are unable to predict the future.
People want leaders who will lead courageously like this:
Listening with empathy
Confronting reality head on
Being real and authentic
Make decisions and moving forward
Communicating openly and frequently

BOOST #3 | Overcoming change fatigue

We are all experiencing tremendous amounts of change in our personal and professional lives. Constant and long term change can make you weary, can be tiring, can be exhausting – I’ve experienced this recently myself.
So how do we overcome this fatigue? And get back the energy and motivation to press on.
Here is a way to do that.
We need to remind ourselves of our purpose, whether this is personal or for your company. Get back to the WHY! The reason. You know that your purpose creates the energy, motivation, inspiration and focus to keep going. So start to dwell on your purpose again. And despite the changes you are making, the reason you are adapting is to fulfil your purpose.

Not surprisingly, we know we cannot predict the future, and yet how much time and resource do we invest in trying to fathom it out? I would suggest we need to invest more into what we can control. We can control how we respond to challenges. So invest in making yourself and your organisation more agile, adaptable and resilient to whatever is thrown at you. We will always have challenges and difficulties along our journey to success, the key is to overcome through adapting. Have the mindset to commit that you will choose to find the good in every circumstance, no matter the circumstance, since there are always possibilities.
So look to explore:

New paths on the journey
New approaches to a problem
New collaborations
And finally invest in training your people to be overcomers rather than strategist of the future!

Change is constant and inevitable, and you can only be successful if you accept it rather than resist it. To increase your capacity to accept change, is to expose yourself to new things on a daily basis, it prepares your mind when change happens.

Martin Brown | Survive - Stabilise - Thrive
Today I am interviewing Martin Brown who is the CEO of Elephants Child to gain his insight on how he has managed to thrive in this season but also gain some helpful strategies for all organisations.
Martin gave us some really nuggets of strategies to help businesses like around mindset and the mindset that we've been encouraging is consider that today is the first day of your business. Your mindset is one of a startup, how can you now get back to revenues both old revenues but importantly new revenues. I think the next thing I would say this, is still the case in the SME market. Most businesses still do not have a plan and you never the want to feel like you did on that day that we all got the news that we're going into lockdown and we started to see the severity of covid-19. Get that plan in place. It doesn't need to be a weighty tone. It does help to get good facilitation around you, but get that plan in place and be working to that plan.

What methodologies have worked. What clients have changed.
