SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE!!! Let Drs. Nii & Renee know what you think about the show! What’s good everyone, Skip Bayless has been a consistent force in the TV sports commentary arena for almost two decades. Known for his stubborn and contrarian views, he’s really made a name for himself being way too focused on the short list of negatives of Lebron James’ career. Two weeks ago, he put his foot in his mouth with his comments and dismissal of Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott’s self-described bout of depression. Kwesi and Dr. Dawn Brown join me on today’s episode to discuss his comments and the effect it could have on other athletes and health care professionals.   Get in touch with Dr. Dawn: @drdawnpsychmd Drdawnpsychmd.com Adhdwellnesscenter.com   This episode is sponsored by Provider Solutions & Development. SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE!!! Let Drs. Nii & Renee know what you think about the show! What’s good everyone!! A large part of providing good patient care is developing a trusting relationship. At times this may require an understanding of the nuances of your patient’s cultural and social makeup. Well on this episode, I got four docs who not only provide amazing care to their patients, but have done the work to identify and decrease how racism affects their patient population.   Here’s our panel: Dr. Kameron Matthews - Family Medicine Dr. Italo Brown - Emergency Medicine Dr.Utibe Essien - Internal Medicine Dr. Alden Landry - Emergency Medicine   We talk about how racism affects them personally and professionally. 171 – Darko Real Estate series – My tenants turned the garage into a bar

SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE!!! Let Drs. Nii & Renee know what you think about the show! What’s good everyone!! “Don’t make emotional decisions about real estate,” and “Numbers matter!” These are going to be the important takeaways from today’s episode. Weeks ago, we told you that we wanted to document our journey into purchasing our first investment property together. Before we get into all the number crunching, calculus shit; you need to hear about our first experiences with real estate. Dr. Renee had positive experiences around real estate. Me, not so much. It started with an emotional decision that led me down a 13-year rabbit hole of bad mistakes. I get it, you’re probably thinking “Yeah that’s not going to be me.” However, it’s really important to understand how someone can make these decisions. Consider this a cautionary tale!!    Sponsored by: Money Insights To learn how to efficiently build an opportunity fund to purchase your next investment property, check out the Investment Optimizer video at moneyinsights.net/darko or you can text the keyword “Darko” to 31996.

170 – Dr. X Files #2 – I became a martyr for medicine and my career

SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE!!! Let Drs. Nii & Renee know what you think about the show! What’s good everyone!! Get your popcorn ready. Get comfortable. We got a new episode of Dr. X Files. Remember, these are episodes of anonymous doctors speaking their truths in a format that makes them most comfortable. This episode will blow your mind like the first one. When people talk about a “food chain” in medicine – let’s just say Doctor X is at the top of this food chain. She is highly specialized, well-compensated, and extremely satisfied with her career/lifestyle balance. This wasn’t the case a couple of years ago. Decisions we all make to survive residency, can turn into pathologic lifestyle choices later as an attending. Well, this caught up to Dr. X early as an attending. Some of these decisions are rooted in people-pleasing and avoidance of conflict. Either way, don’t judge we’ve all been there. Dr. X explicitly details how her decisions led her to sign a contract that was not very detailed, felt uncomfortable asking for market value for her skills, and put self-care on the backburner.  She also talks about how her reputation was almost ruined. Dr. X ain’t no punk though. She became the heroine of her own story and gives a masterclass on how she saved her career and is living her best life!!!

SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE!!! Let Drs. Nii & Renee know what you think about the show! What’s good everyone, New series!!! Sometimes you have to meet doctors where they’re at. It takes a lot to get on a podcast and be 100% honest about how your practice and put your name on it. So, I’ve started a series where I interview doctors who have important stories for us to learn from – they just would rather stay anonymous. I don’t have a problem with it, and neither should you. Information is power, and we got a ways to learn before we can say we’re in the driver’s seat with healthcare. My very first guest is a physician who trained at one of the finest medical institutions in world and decided to join a private practice. He lets us in to what it was like for a hedge fund / venture capitalist firm to purchase his group and the drastic effects it had afterwards. Doc keeps it real on this episode. He also talked about: Making hard decisions between happiness and the almighty dollar His attending’s thoughts on locum tenens What does being a partner mean in private practice The warning signs we all need to pay attention to when in practice. The episode is brought to you by PatientPop. Check them out at www.patientpop.com

SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE!!! Let Drs. Nii & Renee know what you think about the show!So back in the days of medical school, I used to be able to brag about eating a BigMac and then be able to run a 5 minute mile on the treadmill. Well those days are long gone. I can’t run anywhere near that fast and I still got the fast food habit. To make matters worse, how easy is it to get something healthy while on night shift and its 3AM?!! I invited Dr. Siobahn Key to help us understand that weight is a common struggle for physicians and we often feel that we should have it figured it. Let’s get real - there are plenty of aspects of our job that make it easy to gain and hard to lose weight. Dr. Siobhan Key is both a Family Physician, and Obesity Medicine and  Weight Loss Coach for Physicians. She is the host of a weekly podcast Weight Solutions for Physicians. Her passion is helping people learn to stop emotional eating and feel confident in their ability to manage their weight for the rest of their life.   Disclaimer: By listening to this podcast, you agree not to use this podcast as medical advice to treat any medical condition in either yourself or others, including but not limited to patients that you are treating. The website’s content is not a substitute for professional medical care and diagnosis. SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE!!! Let Drs. Nii & Renee know what you think about the show! We’re on to Day 2 of the Docs Outside the Box Virtual Summit. Yesterday, we heard from Dr. Carmen Brown on how leaving the US to practice overseas both revitalized her career and her mental well- being. Today we’re shifting to creating wealth for yourself but not through your job. A lot of people who have detached from their 9 to 5 refer back to the book called Rich Dad, Poor Dad as the catalyst. This book was written by Robert Kiyosaki in 1997 and told the story of his 2 dads – his real father (poor dad) and the father of his best friend (rich dad) – and the ways both men shaped his thoughts on money and investing  My next guest, Dr. Peter Kim has been doing the same for some time now. He’s he runs the famous blog Passive Income MD, and Curbside Real Estate, which is a concierge service for physicians looking to buy real estate. He’s here to help me parse through a recent interview that real estate mogul Grant Cardone did on VladTV, which is a popular YouTube channel focused on the news in Hip Hop. In this video interview, Grant talked about his childhood, how he started in real estate and also how he quickly multiplied his holdings. It’s a very polarizing interview, look below for the embedded video to watch.   Embedded video:   Resources: The 10x Rule 4% Rule

Now a 10 year veteran of living in Australia / New Zealand, you’re going to hear more about the mindset hurdles she and her husband got past to live life on their own terms. Often times, we get caught up on “what I should do,” or “traditionally this,” but fail to realize those thoughts prevent us from finding true happiness. For Dr. Carmen and her husband, the road to happiness started was realizing that the status quo was unacceptable.    Resources: Confessions of a Dr Mom
