Fate: The Winx Saga Interview: Abigail Cowen on Season 2 and Identifying Her Need to Act via Stranger Things
If you’re looking for a good example of someone who put in the work and experienced a steady climb to #1 on the call sheet, look no further than Abigail Cowen. While she has worked on a number of projects outside of Netflix, if you look at her work for the streamer alone she went from having a few lines in Stranger Things to scoring a supporting role in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina where Kiernan Shipka showed her what it means to headline a series, and now Cowen is doing just that starring as Bloom in Fate: The Winx Saga. Just in case you need a little Winx 101, the Netflix series was inspired by the Nickelodeon animated series, Winx Club. In the live-action version, Cowen’s Bloom is a teenager from Earth (aka the First World) who discovers that she’s actually a fire fairy. She’s sent to the Otherworld where she’s enrolled at Alfea, a boarding school dedicated to teaching fairies how to master their powers.Bloom’s thrown into the deep end, to say the least, in Season 1, needing to absorb a hefty dose of very serious Otherworld history and being tasked with accessing her full power in order to save Alfea from total destruction. However, in the process of doing that, she changes the state of the school quite drastically. When class is back in session in Season 2, Bloom needs to own up to what she’s done and figure out her place within that situation, all while dealing with an emerging threat connected to missing fairies. With Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2 now available to stream on Netflix, Cowen joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to recap her journey from her earliest itches to act to headlining a popular Netflix show. Cobra Kai Season 5: Mary Mouser Breaks Down All of Sam's Biggest Moments
There’s a slew of reasons why Cobra Kai is a very special series, but after being lucky enough to chat with the cast and creators for five seasons, one particular thing stands out — the Cobra Kai company is packed with people who understand these characters and are deeply dedicated to doing whatever they can to make their journeys stronger and stronger along the way.Mary Mouser made her first appearance on Collider Ladies Night back in August 2020. That was just after news broke that the series would be moving over to Netflix and just before Season 3 debuted on the streamer. A lot has happened since, both for Mouser herself and for Samantha LaRusso, and that’s exactly what we’re digging into during Mouser’s return to Collider Ladies Night — in person!During a round of Dicey Questions, Mouser highlighted, “Our writers are incredible at adapting and writing to these characters that we’ve probably all co-created at this point.” She continued, “I get to have a say, which is a really cool thing as a young actor to be taken seriously.” A cool thing indeed. A cool thing for Sam who gets a stronger arc courtesy of that collaboration and a cool thing for Mouser herself who’s getting the opportunity to establish a foundation for herself in this industry with such a creatively fulfilling project. When we hit the main portion of the interview, I had to follow up and ask Mouser for the very first time she realized her input and her voice were being heard in a way that really mattered. Find out which scene she picked and hear all about Sam's biggest Season 5 moments including the status of her relationship with Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), where things stand with Tory (Peyton List), and so much more! Nazanin Boniadi Revisits Her Journey from Iron Man & How I Met Your Mother to The Rings of Power
Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, is a one-of-a-kind production, but fortunately, Nazanin Boniadi had a slew of past experiences that put her in prime position to make the absolute most of this whirlwind ride. The show takes place during the Second Age. While it may seem like a period of peace and calm, Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel senses evil brewing and Boniadi’s Bronwyn comes face to face with that evil in Episode 1. Bronwyn is a Southlander. Many years back, their ancestors chose evil over good and their people have been paying for it ever since. They were forced to start from scratch by being banished to baron lands where they’re watched over by the elves. Bronwyn, however, is determined to change that. She aims to liberate her people so they can finally move on from their past. With the first two episodes of The Rings of Power now available to stream on Prime Video, Boniadi joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to recap her journey in the industry and pinpoint key moments in her career that prepared her to jump into this epic Prime Video production. Pre-Party: Meet The Rings of Power Star Markella Kavenagh (Nori Brandyfoot)
Markella Kavenagh already had a handful of experience and credits to her name before jumping into The Rings of Power, but Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings series is about to send her star soaring in a very big way.The show takes place before the events of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit and Lord of the Rings film trilogies, during the Second Age. While there is some that view it as a time of peace initially, Galadriel, played here by Morfydd Clark, senses evil brewing. While she sets off to face it head-on, Kavenagh’s Nori is living the nomadic lifestyle of a Harfoot. Even though Nori is very dedicated to her family, friends, and the community overall, she feels pulled towards bigger things, and that pull becomes especially strong when she encounters a mysterious stranger played by David Weyman. With the first two episodes of The Rings of Power now available on Prime Video, it’s time to get to know Kavenagh a bit better. During our Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party interview we retraced her steps from first recognizing her eagerness to become an actor to scoring a role in one of the biggest franchises in pop culture history. Katja Herbers on Her Journey to Evil, More Demon Kristen and If Sheryl Is Unforgivable
Ever since Evil first debuted on CBS in 2019, I was told time and time again that it was an absolute must-watch, that this genre mash-up of a show was right up my alley. I’m deeply embarrassed to admit that it took me until summer of 2022 to actually take that advice. But, sure enough, I fell so hard for Evil that now I’m determined to pay it forward — go watch all three seasons of Evil on Paramount+ right now!The show stars Mike Coulter as David, a Catholic seminarian working as an assessor, someone tasked with investigating the legitimacy of miracles and also claims of demonic activity. David does this with the help of Aasif Mandvi’s Ben, a contractor who specializes in technology and has a knack for disproving supernatural phenomena via rational explanations. Rounding out the team with a different perspective and set of skills is Katja Herbers’ Kristen, a psychologist who doesn’t believe in the supernatural but rather that everything has an explanation in science. However, the more cases the team takes, the more Kristen's core beliefs are challenged.Clearly I adore Evil overall, but one particular element of the show that makes it a must-watch series is Herbers’ performance. Not only does she deftly weave through complex cases that put everything the character believes to the test, but she goes all-in when tackling every single ounce of it, and given how many genres and tones Evil spans, that makes for a deliciously wide-ranging performance.Given my enthusiasm for the show and her performance, it probably goes without saying that it was the ultimate treat to welcome Herbers to Collider Ladies Night to discuss her journey from Holland to Hollywood and, of course, what went down in Evil Season 3. Bailee Madison Talks Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and Embracing Her Love of Horror More Than Ever
Bailee Madison has been racking up titles in a variety of genres ever since scoring her first screen credit in 2006’s Lonely Hearts, but she’s currently in the process of making an especially big mark in horror. Given her passion for genre storytelling and the fact that she’s had the opportunity to learn from some of the best of the best over the years, that corner of the industry is mighty lucky to have her, and you can see as much in her latest release, the Pretty Little Liars spin-off series, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.Madison stars alongside Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, and Maia Reficco as one of five teenagers being targeted by a masked assailant they call “A.” In addition to dealing with creepy texts and dodging A encounters, Madison’s character, Imogen Adams, is also mourning the loss of her mother while in the tail end of her own pregnancy. But fortunately, Imogen has the support of Tabby (Kinney), Faran (Zaria), Mouse (Pyles), and Noa (Reficco) in trying to unravel the mystery of A’s identity and also in powering through some of her greatest personal challenges. With all 10 episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin now available to stream on HBO Max, Madison joined me for a Collider Ladies Night interview to, yes, discuss all the finale episode’s biggest reveals, but also to revisit her journey in the industry thus far which very clearly paves the way to more horror. Christina Ricci Interview: From Addams Family Values to Yellowjackets
Collider Ladies Night is all about revisiting lessons learned and discussing how they’ve influenced the current path a creator is on. In Christina Ricci’s case, her decade’s worth of experience has led her straight to an Emmy nomination for playing a character who seems to well reflect her greatest ambitions as an artist. Yes, an artist.Ricci is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work playing Misty Quigley in Showtime’s Yellowjackets. If you’re not caught up on the show, what are you waiting for? Yellowjackets is one of the most enthralling, enigmatic new series to hit screens in recent series, and it also features some of the best ensemble casting of all time.Just in case you need the basics, the title Yellowjackets refers to the name of a 1996 New Jersey high school soccer team gearing up to play in a national tournament. However, on the way there, their plane crashes in the middle of nowhere, forcing the girls to go to the extreme in order to survive. In addition to covering the events of 1996, the show also cuts to 2021 where we find the survivors of the incident trying to live normal lives. That includes Ricci’s Misty, a former soccer team equipment manager turned care facility nurse. Misty is all about connection and caring for others, but she’s certainly made a habit of going about achieving those things in all the wrong ways.During our Collider Ladies Night conversation, we went back to the beginning of Ricci’s career and discussed how her goals as a child actor evolved with the rise of independent filmmaking and how all of her experience paved the way to her bringing one of the most enigmatic, darkly fascinating TV characters to screen -- Yellowjackets' Misty Quigley. Pre-Party: Meet Pretty Little Liars Original Sin Star Chandler Kinney
Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party is all about giving you the heads-up on newer talent on the cusp of becoming very big and busy, and I’ve got a whole lot of faith that’ll be the case for Pretty Little Lairs: Original Sin star Chandler Kinney. The HBO Max reimagining takes place within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe, but it focuses on five new characters living in a different town. The events of Original Sin unfold in Millwood, which isn’t all that far from Rosewood. However, there’s also a growing darkness in Tabby’s world. Rachel Sennott Interview: Stand-up, Pete Davidson and Bodies Bodies Bodies
You better start catching up on Rachel Sennott’s work now because she’s amassing must-see credits fast, and with her drive to explore multiple corners of this industry, that list is bound to continue growing at a rip-roaring pace.Sennott first gained notoriety through comedy, specifically in the stand-up and social media spheres. Her star soared in film with the release of Shiva Baby in 2020, which earned her a number of accolades including a nomination for Breakthrough Performer at the Gotham Awards. Now, in her latest release, A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies, Sennott stands out big time in an all-around stellar ensemble, showing off such pitch-perfect line delivery, timing, and improv skills that it's undeniable that nobody could have played the role of Alice quite like she does. The film focuses on a group of friends riding out a hurricane by partying at a secluded family mansion. At one point, they decide to play Bodies Bodies Bodies. Similar to games like Among Us, one person is labeled the killer and the rest have to figure out who that is before they can kill off the other players. The game is especially vicious right off the bat courtesy of the mix of big personalities, building tensions and toxicity, but that intensity soars above and beyond what any of them could have imagined when one player turns up real dead, not game dead. With Bodies Bodies Bodies now playing in theaters nationwide, Sennott took the time to join us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to discuss how she carved her own unique path from dreaming of becoming an actor to being a downright powerhouse in A24’s latest. Pre-Party: Meet Bodies Bodies Bodies Star Myha'la Herrold
Myha’la Herrold is on the rise in a big way. Not only is she making waves on HBO’s Industry, but she’s also an absolute powerhouse in A24’s latest release, Bodies Bodies Bodies directed by Halina Reijn. The movie covers what happens when a group of friends opts to ride out a hurricane by throwing a party at a secluded family mansion. During that party, they play a game — Bodies Bodies Bodies. It’s basically an imposter game like Among Us. One member of the group is secretly dubbed the killer and the rest of the players have to figure who that is before they can kill off the entire group. The girls can get pretty vicious, so perhaps it’s never just a game for them, but things do get especially intense when one player turns up real dead, not game dead. With Bodies Bodies Bodies now playing in select theaters and set for a nationwide expansion on August 12th, Herrold joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party to explain how she went from theater-focused to on-screen star.Hear all about the vital lessons learned from her worst audition, booking HBO's Industry, embracing the frenetic energy of Bodies Bodies Bodies, and so much more in this episode of Collider Ladies Night! Zoey Deutch Interview: The Positives of Method Acting, Her Producing Goals and Not Okay
Zoey Deutch has been busy carving her own path in this industry for years now, and it’s something special. Not only has she racked up credits that highlight her greatest strengths while also showing off her range in front of the lens, but she’s also put a considerable about of time into building her behind-the-scenes resume as well. In fact, her third film serving as a producer is now available to stream on Hulu. It’s Not Okay.Deutch also stars in the film as Danni Sanders. When the movie begins, Danni’s having a rough go of it in a number of respects. She’s an aspiring writer who isn’t really excelling at the craft, she’s got no social life, and she’s struggling to build a social media presence. Desperate to make some improvements online, Danni decides to pretend she’s been sent on a trip to Paris, Photoshopping photos from her Brooklyn apartment to gain Instagram followers. Perhaps it can be considered a somewhat harmless lie until Paris suffers an attack and Danni is labeled a hero when she “returns." Rather than fess up and admit the truth, Danni gets caught up in finally having an audience, and continues to present herself as an influencer, advocate, and survivor. It’s a bold film that demands everyone involved, but especially Deutch, go full force in depicting this despicable spiral of lies. How exactly does one build the skillset, courage, and know-how to jump into such a project as a producer and a headliner? That’s exactly what we covered with Deutch on a brand new episode of Collider Ladies Night.Check out this conversation to hear all about Deutch's experience overcoming Vampire Academy's disappointing reception, the very different but equally memorable experiences she had working with Mark Rylance on The Outfit and Jesse Eisenberg on Zombieland: Double Tap, what her primary goals are as a producer, and so much more! Pre-Party: Meet Paper Girls Star Sofia Rosinsky
Sofia Rosinsky delivers a true one-of-a-kind performance as Mac Coyle in the Prime Video adaptation of Paper Girls.Mac is the very first paperboy in Stony Stream who’s not, well, a boy. Now there’s also Camryn Jones’ Tiff, Fina Strazza’s KJ, and the newest papergirl, Riley Lai Nelet’s Erin. Their paths collide in the wee hours of the morning on November 1, 1988, aka Hell Day. The hours after Halloween can get quite rowdy, but Mac, Tiff, KJ, and Erin have a rather unusual experience after encountering some bullies. After the incident, they wind up time traveling to 2019.Paper Girls features A+ casting across the board, but Rosinsky’s performance, in particular, feels so incredibly specific to her skillset and her interpretation of the character that it’s impossible to imagine anyone else bringing Mac to life with such personality and color. It’s quite the achievement for an actor who’s just 16 years old, and it’s something that signifies that whatever that “special something” is, Rosinsky has it.Hear all about how Rosinsky's inspired by Alec Guinness, how her version of Mac evolved from audition to finished show, what she appreciated most about working with Strazza, Jones, and Nelet, her hopes for Mac in Season 2, and so much more on this edition of Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party! Stranger Things: Natalia Dyer Revisits Nancy's Journey from Playing by the Rules to Bravely Facing Danger
Stranger Things features a number of powerful character arcs, but a personal favorite of the bunch is Nancy Wheeler’s evolution from timid student finding her way in the high school social scene to a sheer force who’s willing to throw herself into danger to fight for her loved ones. That epic transformation is exactly what we break down in this new edition of Collider Ladies Night with Nancy Wheeler herself, Natalia Dyer.In Season 1 of Stranger Things, Nancy is inspired to step up and face the Upside Down after Barb’s (Shannon Purser) disappearance. It’s a mighty powerful early point of change for the character, and it's something that the Duffer Brothers continued to build upon as Nancy’s circle of loved ones grew and as the threat of the Upside Down intensified. Throughout much of Season 2, Nancy teams with Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) to expose Hawkins Lab, and then in Season 3, she applies that tenacity to overcoming intense disrespect from the staff of the Hawkins Post to see an investigation through that proves vital to battling the Mind Flayer. As we see in Stranger Things 4, Episode 9, “The Piggyback,” every single character proves vital to the plan to defeat Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), but Nancy in particular shows off an especially essential ability to assess the threat and figure out what's necessary to power through the mission, a quality that will undoubtedly be crucial to saving Hawkins in the show’s final season.Hear all about Dyer's journey from discovering her passion for acting to becoming a Netflix powerhouse on this episode of Collider Ladies Night! The Boys Season 3 Spoilers with Claudia Doumit: Victoria Neuman’s Complex Internal Conflict
Claudia Doumit is on fire as Victoria Neuman in Season 3 of The Boys. She did make a big impression when she was first introduced in Season 2 of the Prime Video series, but we had to wait nearly the entire season to see what Neuman was really capable of. Now, in Season 3, not only is Neuman less secretive about her head-popping ability, but she’s also proving to be one of the most complex characters to track.Neuman may convey a certain set of goals and values to the public, but deep down, she’s got a top-secret agenda that she’s determined to see through to protect her daughter, Zoe (Olivia Morandin). You don’t become this skilled at conveying multiple emotions and intentions in a single moment without some serious training and experience, and Doumit has certainly put in the work in that respect. With Season 3 of The Boys now available to stream in its entirety, Doumit joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party to recap how she went from getting rejected from acting schools in Australia to starring in one of the hottest shows on Prime Video. Pre-Party: Meet The Umbrella Academy Star Ritu Arya
The cast of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy was electric in Season 1. One’s got to imagine it’s a challenge to join such an ensemble and encourage the audience to fall for your character just as hard, but Ritu Arya did just that in the second season as Lila Pitts. When we first meet Lila in the hit Netflix series, her adoptive mother, The Handler (Kate Walsh), has her assisting in her mission to overthrow the authority at The Commission so she can assume control. However, after succeeding in that plan, Lila comes to learn that The Handler is responsible for the murder of her biological mother and stepfather, putting their entire relationship in question. Diego (David Castañeda) and the Umbrellas try to convince Lila that they can be her family, but after The Handler is shot, Lila opts to take off with the briefcase.Season 3 picks up immediately after the events of Season 2 with the Umbrellas making their way home sweet home to present-day New York — or so they think. Their home now belongs to The Sparrow Academy, an alternative version of their super-powered family. Ultimately, Lila does make her way back to the group to test this notion of family in an unexpected way; she tells Diego that they had a son together, Stanley (Javon Walton). With The Umbrella Academy Season 3 now available to watch — or, let’s get real, to binge on Netflix, Arya joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party to retrace her steps in the industry and discuss how she scored a role on one of the streamer’s hottest shows. Sadie Sink Interview: From Broadway Dreams to Stranger Things
Sadie Sink’s star is soaring. And it has been ever since Stranger Things 2 hit Netflix in October of 2017. But since, Sink has made the absolute most of every single opportunity to come her way, proving her boundless range and astronomical promise in this industry. Not only is she a sheer force in her first lead role in a feature film playing Ziggy in Fear Street 1978, but she also shines in Taylor Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film, will star in Darren Aronofsky’s next film, The Whale, and, to top it all off, she delivers what I truly believe is an Emmy nomination-worthy performance in Stranger Things 4. Sink is a true standout in front of the camera, so it’s shocking to think that there was a time when Sink envisioned her career being solely on the stage, not on screen. While we wait for Strange Things 4 Volume 2 to drop on Netflix on July 1st, Sink joined me for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to recap her journey from her earliest inspirations to Stranger Things megastar. In fact, it’s currently getting mighty close to becoming A24’s highest-grossing release at the domestic box office. It’s a marvel of a movie that could and should continue to make waves through 2022.Admittedly, I was a little late to the game on Everything Everywhere All At Once, only catching the film two weeks into its theatrical release, but you can bet the first thing I did when I got home from the screening was send the necessary emails to get Stephanie Hsu on an episode of Collider Ladies Night.Check out this episode of the show to hear all about Hsu's journey from thinking she'd stick to experimental theater to booking roles in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Everything Everywhere All at once! Taissa Farmiga's Journey from a Much Needed Nudge from Her Sister Vera to HBO's The Gilded Age
I’ve been lucky enough to cross paths with Taissa Farmiga quite a bit over the years for interviews, but a Collider Ladies Night conversation is different. Farmiga’s had a one-of-a-kind journey in this industry and during our 40-minute chat, we covered as much of it as possible leading up to her latest project, the HBO series, The Gilded Age. From Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, The Gilded Age kicks off in the United States in 1882, a time that involved a significant conflict between old money and new ways of amassing enormous fortunes. In the Upper East Side of New York City, the former group includes the Van Rhijn household, led by Christine Baranski’s Agnes van Rhijn. Agnes holds tight to the past and keeps an eye out for newcomers who don’t belong, like her new neighbors the Russells. That’s where we meet Farmiga’s character, Gladys Russell. She’s the teenage daughter of George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha (Carrie Coon). At this point, Gladys should have made her society debut, but Bertha refuses to let Gladys out of lockdown until she can fill her massive ballroom for the occasion. Trouble is, given that the Russells are new to the area, Bertha is finding it rather difficult to earn a place in the local elite social circle.During our Collider Ladies Night chat, we discussed when her sister, Vera Farmiga, encouraged her to join the cast of her directorial debut, Higher Ground, what it was like joining the ensemble of American Horror Story, how she scored her role in The Gilded Age and so much more! Maddie Ziegler Interview: The Fallout, West Side Story & Passion for Acting
I know it’s only the end of January, but trust me when I tell you Maddie Ziegler’s new movie is a special one. I had the opportunity to catch The Fallout at SXSW 2021, and the movie has been on my mind ever since. Had it received a 2021 release, it likely would have been a favorite of the year. Now I'm hopeful that will happen in 2022.The film marks Megan Park’s feature screenwriting and directing debut. Ziegler stars alongside Jenna Ortega as Mia and Vada, respectively. The two aren’t especially close, but when they find themselves in the high school restroom together during a shooting, the shared experience sparks a strong connection that plays a significant role in their efforts to cope with what happened, move in new directions, and attempt to forge forward.Ziegler’s got a staggering list of accomplishments for someone who’s only 19-years-old, and she shows no signs of slowing down while trying to make the most of both of her passions, dancing and acting. Jennifer Holland’s had an exciting and mighty unique journey in the DC realm thus far. Initially, she was going to play “Comms Tech 2” in The Suicide Squad. That role remained a supporting character but eventually was given a name linking her to the comics, Emilia Harcourt. Now? Harcourt is a main character in James Gunn’s Peacemaker series on HBO Max. Now, not only must Harcourt complete yet another challenging mission, Project Butterfly, but she’s got to do so with someone she finds insufferable. With Peacemaker in the midst of its eight-episode run on HBO Max, Holland joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to discuss the series, and also to explain how her journey in the industry led her to it. Cobra Kai Season 4 Interview: Peyton List Revisits Her Journey from Disney Channel to Netflix
The entire Cobra Kai ensemble shines every single season, but there’s no denying that Peyton List is a major standout as Tory in Season 4.When we first met the character in Season 2, Tory joins Cobra Kai and develops an intense rivalry with Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser). And who can blame her? Accusing Tory of stealing her mother’s wallet wasn’t really an ideal first encounter. Things continue to escalate between the two when Tory strikes up a relationship with Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) only to spot him rekindling his romance with Sam shortly after. While the school brawl at the end of Season 2 might have seemed to be the peak of this conflict, things only intensify in Season 3 with Sam struggling to cope with the extremely violent nature of the fight and Tory taking advantage of Sam’s state every chance she gets. Ultimately though, Sam manages to stand up to Tory in the Season 3 finale and best her during the fight in the LaRusso home. Would that incident put Tory on an even darker path? Is she so consumed by rage that she’ll never be able to find her way back? With Cobra Kai Season 4 now available to stream on Netflix, List took the time to join us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night and we dug deep into Tory’s evolution throughout the series. But, as with all episodes of Ladies Night, we also went way back to List’s pre-Cobra Kai days to get a better sense of the steps she took in order to hone her craft to deliver this big on the hit Netflix show. Mackenzie Davis Career Interview: From Breathe In to HBO Max's Station Eleven
Mackenzie Davis has been a favorite for a good while now, but it’s especially exciting to see her filmography continue to grow with such a wide variety of projects, working with some of the most striking voices in the industry. Now that resume grows with HBO Max’s extremely stirring adaption of Emily St. John Mandel’s novel, Station Eleven, from showrunner Patrick Somerville with episodes directed by Hiro Murai, Jeremy Podeswa, Helen Shaver and Lucy Tcherniak. The story begins with the world on the cusp of a significant flu outbreak. The pandemic devastates civilization, completely obliterating the technology we rely on and our way of life in general. Twenty years in the future, Davis’ character, Kirsten, is part of the Traveling Symphony, a group of actors and musicians who travel the region performing Shakespeare for various communities. The Witcher Interview: Anya Chalotra Recalls the Day on Set She Thought "I Can’t Do This"
No, Yennefer didn’t have peak confidence all throughout Season 1 of The Witcher, but Anya Chalotra seemed to be oozing with it while playing the character. However, while on an episode of Collider Ladies Night in celebration of the launch of Season 2 of the hit Netflix series, Chalotra admitted that wasn’t really the case. In fact, there was a point during the filming of Season 1 when she had to call a mentor for help. For about half of the season, Yennefer is a young woman struggling with a curved spine and facial paralysis who’s often ridiculed. When it’s discovered that Yennefer has magical abilities, she’s taken to Aretuza to study to become a mage. After much struggle, Yennefer not only ascends but also insists that the Aretuza enchanter change her physical differences. He does and she’s reborn, stepping back out into the world buzzing with power and confidence.Prior to The Witcher, Chalotra’s screen credits were limited to the drama series Wanderlust and the BBC One mystery mini series The ABC Murders. The Witcher was on another level. Janina Gavankar on Getting Her Start in Barbershop and Swinging Big as Ren on Big Sky
I was already a big believer that Janina Gavankar is a wildly talented individual that this industry needs more of, but after our 50-minute Collider Ladies Night chat, I’ve also come to the conclusion that she can (and should) do just about anything. At the moment, Gavankar is making the most of a downright delicious role in Big Sky Season 2. The search for Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty) is still ongoing, but Jenny (Katheryn Winnick) and Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) also get caught up in a case that involves some missing drugs and a whole lot of money. That’s where Gavankar’s Ren comes in. She’s part of the crime family tied to the drugs and money, and is sent to Helena to investigate. With Big Sky celebrating its winter finale, Gavankar took some time to join us for an extended Collider Ladies Night conversation — but it still wasn’t enough! She’s a creator with an especially high drive and wide range of passions, making it impossible to cover it all in one episode. Not only is Gavankar part of quite a few pop culture phenomena including Star Wars, True Blood and Arrow, but she’s also a passionate gamer, a trained musician and someone with a whole slew of stories involving unforgettable collaborations that turned into lasting friendships.Hear about it all on this edition of Collider Ladies Night! Rose McIver on "Breaking Out" with Lovely Bones and the CBS Smash Ghosts
Even as someone who needs the horror genre 365 days a year, I still have that increased itch for fun-loving, feel-good fare during the holiday season. This year, one of the biggest delights paving the way to the holidays and spreading good vibes every step of the way is the new CBS sitcom, Ghosts. Inspired by the British series of the same name, the CBS show stars Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar as Samantha and Jay, a couple who opt to leave their city life behind when they inherit an old country estate, hoping to renovate the place and turn it into a bed and breakfast. However, much to their surprise, soon after moving in, they come to learn that the house is actually occupied — by ghosts. And much to the ghosts’ surprise, they discover that Samantha is the first living person they’ve ever met who can actually see and hear them. With Ghosts currently powering through its first season, McIver joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night. Mckenna Grace Interview: How She Accomplished So Much at Just 15-Years-Old
Mckenna Grace is 15-years-old and already has dozens of credits and an Emmy nomination to her name. She broke out big starring opposite Chris Evans in Gifted, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing a young Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, is featured in the downright stellar Haunting of Hill House on Netflix, delivers a truly jaw-dropping performance in The Handmaid’s Tale and now she’s a key part of the future of the Ghostbusters franchise.Grace plays Phoebe in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. When her family is forced to move to Summerville, Oklahoma and into a creepy old farmhouse her grandfather left them, Phoebe comes to learn that he has quite the legacy. Her grandfather was a Ghostbuster. When Phoebe and her brother Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) come to learn what he was busy doing out there in Summerville, it becomes their responsibility to use the tools he left behind to help save the world.Having someone like Grace on Collider Ladies Night is a blessing and a curse. As you’ll hear in the video at the top of this article, I’m a big believer she’s one of the most talented actors in the business. Having the opportunity to discuss how she first discovered her passion for acting, how she scored her first Hollywood gigs, what it was like collaborating with other next-level creators like Octavia Spencer, Mike Flanagan, James Wan and more was the ultimate treat. The curse? Even with an extended interview slot, there isn’t nearly enough time to highlight all of Grace’s accomplishments. We did get to a whole bunch of them though! Check out this edition of Collider Ladies Night to hear all about Grace's experience on Gifted, The Haunting of Hill House, The Handmaid's Tale, her love of skating, working on Ghostbusters: Afterlife and so much more. Last Night in Soho: Thomasin McKenzie on Why Method Acting Is Too Dangerous For Her
If you like to keep up with the most promising rising stars, Thomasin McKenzie better be on your list. She “broke out” with her stellar performance opposite Ben Foster in 2018’s Leave No Trace and hasn’t stopped delivering especially big since. She starred in the Academy Award winning film Jojo Rabbit, was at the heart of a mighty impressive ensemble in Old, she’s in Jane Campion's upcoming awards season contender The Power of the Dog, and also headlines one of my personal favorite films of the year, Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho.McKenzie plays Eloise in the psychological thriller. She dreams of becoming a fashion designer and is thrilled to get the opportunity to study her craft in school in London. She moves to the big city to start her future, but finds herself caught up in the past. Ellie has the ability to connect to the 1960s, and more specifically to Anya Taylor-Joy’s Sandie, an aspiring star looking for her big break. Ellie is enamored and inspired by Sandie, but soon comes to realize there are some extremely dark sides to Sandie's seemingly dreamy 1960s existence. With Last Night in Soho now in theaters, McKenzie joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to retrace her steps in the industry thus far. We discussed one of her very first films, what it was like breaking out with Leave No Trace, working with Wright on Last Night in Soho and so much more. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices.
