Entrepreneur Ricardo Jimenez The Creator Of Plushky Shares His Crash Course Toward Success

Entrepreneur Ricardo Jimenez The Creator Of Plushky Shares His Crash Course Toward Success

For every Miracle Mop, Bombas sock or Squatty Potty, there’s a Plushky. What’s a Plushky? It’s astuffed, colorful plushie shaped like a country. For six years, from 2010 to 2016, then Austin-basedentrepreneur Ricardo Jiménez engaged in a relentless pursuit to find the market, customers, distributors, investors, partners and sellers that would make his line of Plushkies the next big thing.Given these cuddly plush stuffed toys can’t be found on shelves of any major retailers or on anyonline marketplace, we already know the ending of this story. Jiménez failed in his efforts to getothers to see his vision that these toys would bring the children of the world together. But not everyentrepreneur can be a Joy Mangano, Dave Heath or Bobby and Judy Edwards. In fact, nine timesout of ten, entrepreneurs fail. But is it truly the ending of his story or his Plushkies? In his new book, CRASH COURSE: AFounder’s Journey to Saving Your Startup and Sanity (Forefront Books; June 18, 2024), Jiménezshares what it’s like to pour your heart, your passion and your financial resources into a dream andvision that few others see. And, most excruciatingly, fail at it.“There are enough stories about entrepreneurs who lived their American dreams, but what aboutthose of us who put ourselves on the line, worked endless hours, did everything we could to giveour companies life, and still faltered and lost our money without ever creating a true profitableenterprise? That’s not a story people usually want to hear, but I am convinced it’simportant—maybe even more important than endlessly studying Cinderella-like success stories”says Jimenez.Have we been given a how-to on what it’s like to fail at a start-up? In CRASH COURSE, Jiménezasks: Can failure inform a different narrative of accomplishment, as opposed to success bymainstream measures?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

He's Been To Hell And You Aren't Going Back Jared Klickstein Releases Crooked Smile

Crooked Smile details one man's journey that left him homeless on Skid Row, and what it took to escape a decade of addiction. "Darkly humorous" is an understatement when it comes to this poignant tale of addiction, homelessness, incarceration, and eventually, redemption. Jared Klickstein, the child of two heroin addicts who eventually became addicted himself, takes readers on a raw and personal journey from his unsettling and secretive childhood in the suburbs to the slums of Skid Row. Through tales of violence, relapse, and deep inner struggle, Klickstein provides a harrowing account of his personal encounter with near-death-including what he calls dying in "slow motion." But this story is not just about one man's life-it's about the hundreds of thousands of homeless and drug-addicted Americans who are on the streets right now. It's about those who need help the most, and what can be done to address the growing addiction and homelessness problems we face. In this moving memoir, Klickstein offers a fresh take and solutions to both epidemics, providing firsthand experience and insight into what policies should be put in place to mitigate the suffering. Crooked Smile recounts one man's escape from a hellish life-and carves a valuable path for others.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Former Secret Service Agent Anthony Cangelos Counter Snipers Needed 360 Degree Coverage

Former Secret Service agent says counter snipers at Trump rally should have had '360 degree coverage' of surrounding buildingsA former Secret Service agent said counter-snipers at the Pennsylvania rally where a would-be assassin wounded former President Donald Trump should have had "360-degree coverage" of the event and surrounding buildings."I don't know how many they had, but they usually always look for 360-degree coverage," former Secret Service agent Anthony Cangelosi told Business Insider. "So that's one thing that's going to be considered."The Federal Bureau of Investigation identified the shooter as a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.Cangelosi, who is now an adjunct professor at the John Jay School of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, said the primary question law enforcement would likely be asking is how the suspect could have made it to the top of a nearby building undetected.Butler Township Sheriff Michael Slupe told The Washington Post that a local officer encountered the suspect before the shooting but dropped to the ground because he did not have his weapon. For a large event where the president or former president is speaking, the Secret Service on the scene would typically work with law enforcement to design a "site plan" with a mock-up of the event space and all surrounding buildings, Cangelosi said. This plan will be paramount for investigators in determining what possible failures occurred during the rally, according to Cangelosi.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Drew Cagle And The Reputation Tearing Up The Live Stages And Studios With All Figured Out

Drew Cagle & The Reputation is a High Energy, No Apologies, National Touring Rock band from Central Illinois. The band got its name “The Reputation” after Cagle decided to lean into the considerable ridicule he received in the beginning while attempting to perform his original music in a market primarily dominated by cover bands. Driven by his passion for authentic original expression, Cagle set his sights on the surrounding major cities in the Midwest and across the US determined to show the world that greatest rock songs haven’t already been written…After 3 years, Drew Cagle & The Reputation return with a vengeance with the release of their new single “All Figured Out”. Their new song takes dead aim at the naysayers who doubted Cagle’s artistic vision, calling out the hypocrisy rooted in premature judgements of others in an epic rock n roll fashion. With a unique style of boisterous rock’n roll that combines passionate modern songwriting with the bold sound & swagger of the hard rock superstars from the 80’s, DC&R manages to encapsulate the classic “chip on your shoulder” aggression and natural danger that rock n roll has been missing in recent years. “All Figured Out” clings to the feeling of being counted out and with a rebellious spirit, aims to inspire the listener to prove their own opposition wrong.“All Figured Out” was recorded in Nashville, TN with an A-List Cast of Grammy Award winning studio musicians, engineers, and producers.Produced, Recorded, & Mixed By: Matt Coles (Eagles, Alice Cooper)Mastered By: True East Mastering (Alabama, Robert Plant)Featuring:Drew Cagle - VocalsShannon Forrest (Toto) - DrumsSol Philcox-Littlefield (Luke Combs) - GuitarSam Hunter (Willie Nelson) - GuitarCraig Young (Elton John) – BassBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Writer Producer And Journalist Nat Segaloff Digs Into Hollywood's Naughty Bits

Writer Producer And Journalist Nat Segaloff Digs Into Hollywood's Naughty Bits

Given today's cancel culture, here's a look at how Hollywood, of all places, was America's first "woke" system. We look at more than 50 classic films such as Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, East of Eden, The Ten Commandments, Convention City, and Lawrence of Arabia through the eyes and blue pencils of the Production Code Administration, the industry's censors. What emerges is not a gaggle of prudes but a staff with deep knowledge and sensitivity despite their mission to cleanse. Here is a time capsule of American mores and Hollywood's excesses over nearly four decades that led to today's letter rating system. Between 1934 and 1968, no Hollywood studio could make a movie without the permission of and a seal of approval from the Production Code Administration. The Production Code was Hollywood's official censor. Screenplays, books, plays, costumes and even story ideas and songs had to be okayed by the Code before they could be filmed, and the Code monitored every stage of the production process to ensure compliance. The correspondence between the Code and the studios was confidential, and the memos within the Code office itself were even more so. Well, not any more. The Naughty Bits pores through those files to show how the censors did their job. What was the world prevented from seeing in some of the greatest movies ever made, including Stagecoach, Some Like It Hot, Psycho, and His Girl Friday? Here is the sometimes funny, sometimes outrageous, always riveting history of movie censorship on a nitty-gritty level.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

What would the immediate steps be once notified? Is it possible to think rationally in such little time? Is there any such thing as being prepared? As the book outlines, could the world as we know it end in as little as 72 minutes? In NUCLEAR WAR, Anne Jacobsen examines the ticking-clock scenario of what would unfold in the seconds, minutes, and hours following the launch of a nuclear attack against the United States, and in so doing, exposes what the government and military do not want to the public to understand about the current state of nuclear weapons.Based on dozens of EXCLUSIVE new interviews with military and civilian experts who have built the weapons, have been privy to the response plans, and have been responsible for the decisions should they have needed to be made, NUCLEAR WAR takes readers behind the curtain with NEVER-BEFORE publicly reported details.Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. For our generation, that person is Pulitzer Prize finalist and investigative journalist Annie Jacobsen. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information only as good as the intelligence we have. Please note: in addition to being the anniversary of the first nuclear weapons test, July 16th is also National Atomic Veterans Day, honoring the brave service and sacrifice of the members of the U.S. Armed Forces who participated in nuclear tests or were exposed to radioactive material from 1945 to 1962.The public has been sold the concept of “deterrence,” the idea that maintaining a massive nuclear stockpile is imperative for discouraging nuclear attack, but since 1960 there have been at least six terrifying nuclear close calls. Contrary to popular belief, the threat of nuclear war is as high as ever. As global tensions mount, the only way to truly understand the headlines is to realize we are never far from the trigger that could end the world.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Author LK Bowen Hits The Book Scene With Her Debut Crime Novel For Worse

Author LK Bowen Hits The Book Scene With Her Debut Crime Novel For Worse

L.K. Bowen's debut novel FOR WORSE was named a "Best Debut Novel" by CrimeReads and follows a wife who is diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa-a diagnoses that author Bowen also has received-and must survive at the hand of her abusive husband while simultaneously learning how to support herself on her own as she quickly loses her vision. Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a degenerative eye disease that affects over 2 million people worldwide, slowly causing people to lose their vision over time until they become fully blind. With Pulitzer Prize finalists such as The Country of the Blind by Andrew Leland putting focus on their life with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and celebrities such as Jake Gyllenhaal opening up about legal blindness, there is no better time to champion books by authors and featuring characters who have disabilities as we look ahead to Disability Pride Month (July). Bowen's journey has been a long one: one full of introspection, resilience, and hope. This is a journey that echoes throughout the pages of her debut, with the added intrigue of a psychological thriller reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn's Wait Until Dark. Bowen wrote an emotionally wrought, yet hopeful essay for The Nerd Daily about her diagnosis, and recently appeared on a panel at ThrillerFest to discuss her debut novel and her work with RP. Compelled to bring light to her disease, Bowen became dedicated to putting a character like herself at the center of her novel, hoping her story (though fictional in many aspects) would reach people worldwide.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Retired Brigadier General Paul Greg Smith Releases Confessions Of A Weekend Warrior

Retired Brigadier General Paul Greg Smith Releases Confessions Of A Weekend Warrior

America's National Guard was once considered a ragtag gaggle of pretend soldiers. Beginning in the 1980s the National Guard gradually transformed into today's highly flexible operational force that answers our nation's call for overseas combat deployments as well as domestic emergencies that run the gamut from lifesaving disaster responses to staffing Covid clinics. Brigadier General Paul "Greg" Smith describes his personal journey during these years, from a callow cadet to a committed commander leading military forces in response to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. Smith gives a humorous, gritty, and sometimes touching glimpse into the inner workings of this unique military organization while offering portraits of the men and women who serve as the minutemen of our age. His reflections on service, duty, and the complexities of command will enlighten anyone who seeks to better understand the challenges of leadership. “In the post post-Vietnam restructuring of the service, the Chief of Staff, General Creighton Abrams, insured the U.S. Army would never deploy forces to a combat area without the National Guard again. Brigadier General Greg Smith provides an inside look at how National Guard soldiers have laid to rest the stereotype image of the ‘Weekend Warrior’ and replaced it with that of a capable professional who has become an equal member of the operational force.”—Major Glenn F. Alec Baldwin's Trial Has Begun Ted Rowlands Court TV Live Hooks You Up

Alec Baldwin's Trial Has Begun Ted Rowlands Court TV Live Hooks You Up

A New Mexico judge has ruled that actor Alec Baldwin's indictment will stand in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of his film Rust. In an order on Friday, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer turned down a motion by Baldwin's attorneys to dismiss the indictment. Baldwin therefore remains scheduled to go on trial July 9th for involuntary manslaughter. Nearly three years ago, during a rehearsal for a scene in the Western movie on a ranch outside Santa Fe, Baldwin was holding the prop gun that had been loaded with live ammunition. The Colt .45 revolver went off, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin, who was also a producer for the film, pleaded not guilty, and has maintained he was not responsible for Hutchins' death. Shortly after the shooting, he told ABC News he had "no idea" how a live bullet got onto the set of his film, but that he "didn't pull the trigger." In March, a jury found the film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, guilty of involuntary manslaughter and negligent use of a firearm. She's now serving an 18-month prison sentence. The New Mexico Environment Department's Occupational Health and Safety Bureau issued a citation against Rust Movie Productions and fined them for failures that led to Hutchins' "avoidable death." The high-profile criminal case against Alec Baldwin has had many twists and turns. Baldwin was first charged in 2023, but New Mexico's case against him faced a number of setbacks: Baldwin's attorneys fought to remove special prosecutor Andrea Reeb, a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives. She stepped down from the case. So did the district attorney who brought the case, after downgrading the charges against the actor. (Baldwin initially faced charges for a minimum of five years in prison under a "firearm enhancement" statute, but his legal team noted that such a law didn't take effect in New Mexico until after the fatal Rustshooting.) In April of 2023, the charges against Baldwin were dropped as two new special prosecutors were assigned. In October, they presented their case to a grand jury to determine whether he should be criminally charged. By January, the jury agreed to indict him. But last week, Baldwin's attorneys Alex Spiro and Luke Nikas asked Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer to dismiss his charges. They argued that during the grand jury hearing, the state's special prosecutor unfairly stacked the deck against Baldwin, leaving out key testimony and interrupting witnesses multiple times. "She doesn't cut off anybody saying 'I don't like Alec Baldwin,' that's for sure. It's always in one direction," said Spiro. Spiro argued that the "overzealous" special prosecutor engaged in "bad faith" by failing to make defense witnesses available to testify, and for presenting contradictory testimony. Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey, meanwhile, was on the defensive with Judge Sommer. She denied that she had done anything nefarious before the grand jury."Everything he's saying to you right now is a complete misrepresentation," Morrissey said of Spiro. "I didn't hide any information from the grand jury." She said she had planned to present several defense witnesses if the grand jurors asked for their testimony, and she denied that the testimony was contradictory."I want the court to understand that all I was trying to do was get the most accurate information before the grand jury," Morrissey explained. She defended the testimony of witnesses, including that of veteran movie armorer Bryan Carpenter, who spoke about industry weapons practices during the grand jury trial: "Everything that Mr. Carpenter said is absolutely accurate about the way that safety protocols on movie sets are supposed to work." She said Carpenter testified in the Gutierrez-Reed trial that the armorer is in charge of gun safety, and he testified before the grand jury "that the actor has a responsibility for the firearm once it is in his hand."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Hardcore Music Festivals Booked Through 2025 Cold Sweat's Marc Ferrari Talks Rock With Unburied Alive

Hardcore Music Festivals Booked Through 2025 Cold Sweat's Marc Ferrari Talks Rock With Unburied Alive

The foundation of this album consists of four unreleased studio tracks from the early 90’s, which showcase the band (Marc Ferrari & Erik Gamans, guitar – Chris McLernon, bass – Anthony White, drums – and Roy Cathey, vocals) delivering powerful heavy melodic rock at its finest. The lead track “Rain Down” is a classic-style arena rock working class anthem; “Unburied Alive” also features vintage concert cuts from their 1990 appearance at the Super Rock Festival in Mannheim, Germany supporting Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Dio and Poison, plus recent modern-era live recordings from their triumphant reunion at the 2020 Monsters Of Rock Cruise pre-party. Ferrari founded Cold Sweat after departing the band Keel in 1989. The band released their acclaimed cult classic “Break Out” on MCA Records and toured the US and Europe before falling victim to the changing musical landscape of the 90’s. This collection of recordings proves that the music has stood the test of time, and the men behind that music plan to drive that point home when they hit the stage May 5th in Columbia, Maryland at this year’s M3 Festival, on the bill with Bret Michaels, Night Ranger, Y&T and Stryper.“We [RFK Media] heard these unreleased studio tracks and realized immediately, we have to get this music out there,” explains RFK chief Ron Keel. “Then we found out there were unreleased live tracks, not just from the 2020 reunion but from the 1990 festival appearance in Germany. It was like an uppercut to the jaw, a right cross and a body blow in quick succession, and we’re ready to deliver the knockout punch with this very special Cold Sweat release.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The geography speaks for itself. The bad guys are just kilometers away, across the river. We are the only international (or locals) with a brick and mortar office downtown, for them to go for help. No assistance from govt unless elderly, and the assistance they get is shit. Office safe from “normal” shelling (tank fire, most mortars). Glide bombs and attack drones are new since Ukrainians landed on other side and have beachhead. Quietly, that is a total massacre over there — poorly kept secret here. can’t do much about the big stuff … if we get hit with a glide bomb we’re fucked. I like our chances. Monday Wednesday and Friday the FREE STORE AT THE FRONT is open at our office. Basic foods medicines hygiene and winter clothes. After Two Decades In Hollywood Author RJ Stewart Is In your Imagination With Crazy Hawk

After Two Decades In Hollywood Author RJ Stewart Is In your Imagination With Crazy Hawk

In this post-apocalyptic, dystopian thriller, Crazy Hawk, set 100 years into the future, author R.J. Stewart makes an explosive debut as a novelist. He is not new to writing, however. His 22-year Hollywood writing career, punctuated by his work for the ground-breaking television show, Xena: Princess Warrior, includes collaborating with multi-generational talent such as Kevin Costner, James Garner, Charlie Sheen and Pierce Brosnan. “After two decades writing in Hollywood, I took two decades off,” says Stewart. “But even as the world has changed over time, the qualities and virtues that inspire us, particularly resiliency, have not changed and I think my novel reflects that spirit.” Crazy Hawk is about a resilient and fierce woman, Deirdre, seeking to save her kidnapped sister while seeking revenge amidst a global landscape in ruin. Deirdre lives for one purpose: to get her sister back.  If she needs to kill the kidnappers, no problem. She’s good at that. Riding her one-eyed Soul Horse, Danny, she relentlessly pursues the kidnappers through an America wrecked by the Great Virus, endless civil war and a collapse of the global order called the Breakdown. She’s forced by circumstances to ally with a nomadic photographer. His gentle decency moves her to the core, but her mission leads her away from the man she’s falling in love with and toward a confrontation with the people who hold her sister. To defeat them, she’ll need the help of the powerful Nations, a league of indigenous tribes. But there’s a problem. The Nations consider Deirdre a deadly enemy. They've even given her a nickname that signifies their grudging respect for this ferocious adversary: Crazy Hawk. “America at times feels like it is at a breaking point, or at least at a moment where it is divided and tested,” notes Stewart. “I address those fears and passions when drawing the world in this book. The future is not yet determined, but for some, it can seem a dark, violent place.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
