Fear Scientist Dr Mary Poffenroth Releases The Book Brave New You
Dr Poffenroth outlines the physiological triggers for these kinds of fears—often set off by problems in the world around us—and then offers an array of tools to manage them. Think of this book as a Shadow Work Journal but built from personal experience and years of multidisciplinary research, with science-based, proven strategies for charting a course through tough inner challenges. The mental health crisis is upon us: A recent study from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) found that anxiety rates have increased threefold since 2019 while rates of depression have grown fourfold. One cause of the underlying crisis: fear. Because we’re not adapted to managing lingering fears, we do it all wrong, allowing them to damage us physically and emotionally. Poffenroth reveals that the answer is not to become fearless, or treat fear as a private, disgraceful moral failing, but to unlock one’s inner bravery with a deeper understanding about the nature of our fears. Poffenroth suggests doing this by way of “neurohacks,” or surprisingly easy-to-use tools for living with our fears. Because our brains are not fixed but capable of immense change and growth, neurohacks work like cheat codes that help us update and refresh how we think, feel, and behave in response to life’s stressors. For example, Poffenroth created the RAIN method—which stands for Recognize, Assign, Identify, and Navigate—based on her own and other’s research as a fully accessible, easy-to-remember (and use!) framework to deal with everyday fear and includes multiple coping skills so that it is customizable for each person’s unique brain. The first three steps are about observing, articulating, and classifying physical (biological reactions) and emotional experiences, while the last uses neurohacks to navigate through the discomfort. BRAVE NEW YOU helps readers chart a path to navigate today’s most common fears, serving as a compass to help navigate the turbulent waters of worry, unease, and panic.BRAVE NEW YOU is A groundbreaking guide to understanding anxiety, stress, and other everyday fears that hold us back—complete with step-by-step instructions for managing those fears and living a fuller, happier life.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The Chief Editor Of Spin And TV Guide Doug Brod Releases Born With A Tail
A provocative, irreverent biography of Anton Szandor LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, BORN WITH A TAIL chronicles a time when Americans welcomed a macabre showman into their living rooms via The Tonight Show, before a ginned-up hysteria known as the Satanic Panic would put a target on his shiny, shaven head. When Anton LaVey burst onto the San Francisco scene right before the Summer of Love, he parlayed his eerie obsessions into a philosophy and lifestyle that capitalized on a New Age rage. With his signature cape, horn-studded hood, and Ming the Merciless beard, LaVey was a media-savvy provocateur who took what he did seriously, but was always in on the joke. From a spooky old house on an otherwise unremarkable street, he founded the Church of Satan, where young women squirmed nude on the mantel of his ritual chamber as he delivered a doctrine of self-deification and indulgence that combined the writings of Ayn Rand, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Aleister Crowley with the pulpy fictions of H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard.Later, his bestselling book The Satanic Bible (still in print since 1969) struck an ominous chord with both the hip and the alienated-the fringe dwellers who were goth before there were goths. But LaVey's influence could be felt far beyond his flock, namely in the nightmarish and supernatural entertainment that dominated pop culture in the 1970s and continues to make an impact today. He was a musical prodigy who attracted a cluster of stars into his orbit, including Jayne Mansfield and Sammy Davis Jr. But living like a real-life Gomez Addams, complete with a full-grown pet lion, came at an awful price. Deeply researched and featuring dozens of new interviews, as well as recently unearthed personal correspondence and church records, BORN WITH A TAIL: The Devilish Life and Wicked Times of Anton Szandor LaVey, Founder of the Church of Satan separates the facts from the fabrications of this uniquely American character's extraordinary life.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Award Winning Producer Director Burt Kearns Releases Shemp The Biography Of The 3 Stooges
The definitive biography of the great Shemp Howard, an original member of the Three Stooges, and one of Hollywood's most influential actors that Kirkus Reviews calls an "illuminating. reworking of the Stooges mythology" and Patton Oswalt praises as "the only book you will ever need to read about anything. Burn all the other books - there is ONLY SHEMP!" Shemp Howard not only had one of the most distinctive faces of the twentieth century, but was also one of its most accomplished, influential comic actors and showbiz personalities. Along with his brother Moe and comedy violinist Larry Fine, Shemp was an original member of the comedy team that became known as the Three Stooges before he quit and set off on his own in 1932.SHEMP! shows how he made an even greater mark in a successful and until now largely unexplored career in more than a hundred movie shorts and features. He appeared in comedies, dramas, mysteries, Westerns, and musicals alongside the biggest stars of the Golden Age, including W.C. Fields, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Marlene Dietrich, William Powell, Lon Chaney, Jr., Myrna Loy, and the team of Abbott & Costello. Author Burt Kearns challenges the "official" version of Three Stooges history that's been repeated for decades, shattering myths while uncovering the surprising and often troubling facts behind the man's unlikely story: how the child of Jewish immigrants, supposedly racked by debilitating phobias, could conquer show business; the behind-the-scenes machinations that pushed him to return to the team; and the circumstances surrounding his untimely death. Through interviews with fans, family members, experts, filmmakers, and celebrities, SHEMP! unearths treasures in Shemp's solo work, examines the "cult of Shemp" that thrives today, and confirms Shemp Howard's deserved place in cinematic history.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The Navajo Paranormal Ranger Stanley Milford There's A Lot Of Unexplained Things On This Little Planet
"From dozens of Bigfoot sightings in the San Juan River Valley to a deeply disturbing UFO visitation near Satan's Butte to a poltergeist-like haunting of an office in Window Rock, the cases I investigated led me to one inevitable conclusion: There is so much more to this world and our vast universe than we can imagine, and we have only begun to scratch the surface." - From the Introduction In THE PARANORMAL RANGER: A Navajo Investigator's Search for the Unexplained (William Morrow; on sale 10/1/24), Stanley Milford Jr. delivers a gripping memoir of his investigations into perplexing cases of the paranormal and unexplained over the course of his illustrious career serving the Navajo Nation.Raised with a deep-rooted connection to the supernatural due to his diverse heritage grounded in Navajo and Cherokee traditions, Milford's upbringing uniquely positioned him to navigate the eerie realms he would encounter when he joined the fabled Navajo Rangers. Equal parts police officers, archeological conservationists, and historians, the rangers are responsible for overseeing the massive 27,000-square-mile Navajo Nation, where mundane tasks blend seamlessly with extraordinary occurrences. When Milford first became a ranger, he handled everyday cases such as cattle inspections and domestic disputes, but that quickly gave way to more bizarre cases of mysterious livestock mutilations, spine-chilling encounters with skinwalkers and cryptids, UFOs, and malicious hauntings.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

A Science Writer Who Specializes In Archaeology Heather Pringle Releases The Northwomen
In this cutting-edge, revisionist portrait, renowned science journalist Heather Pringle, turns long-held assumptions regarding the role of Viking women on their head. Using the latest archaeological research and historical findings, she sheds fascinating new light on the powerful women of North. Until Scandinavia converted to Christianity and came under the rule of powerful kings, the Vikings were a dominant force in the medieval world. Outfitted with sleek, wind-powered ships, they left their mark, spreading terror across Europe, sacking cities, deposing kings, and ransacking entire economies. After the Vikings, the world was never the same. But as much as we know about this celebrated culture, there is a large missing piece: its women. All but ignored by contemporary European writers, these shadowy figures were thought to have played little part in the famous feats of the Vikings, instead remaining at home as wives, mothers, and homemakers. Members of a complex society rich in culture, courage, and a surprisingly modern gender ideology, the women of the Viking age were in fact forces to be reckoned with: Sorceresses, Warriors, Traders, Artisans, Explorers, Settlers, Landowners, Power brokers and Queens. NY Times Best Selling Author And Journalist Craig Unger Releases Den Of Spies
In this remarkable work of investigative reporting, Craig Unger reveals his thirty-year deep dive into the secret collusion between Ronald Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign and Iran in which the GOP made illegal arms sales to Iran in return for Iran delaying the release of 52 American hostages until after the election, thus ensuring Reagan's win and denying Carter a second term. Taking readers inside his three-decade reporting odyssey, Unger shares never-before-seen documents and illuminates startling truths about what really happened in 1980. The result is a real-life political thriller filled with double agents, CIA operatives, slippery politicians, KGB documents, wealthy Republicans, and dogged journalists. Timely, provocative, and presaging our Trump-era political scandals, DEN OF SPIES uncovers one of the darkest political conspiracies of all time and demonstrates the stakes of allowing the politics of the present to obscure our true history. Over the past two decades, Craig Unger has written some of the most explosive and respected books on the American Right's threat to democracy, including bestsellers American Kompromat and House of Bush, House of Saud. Now, Unger again displays his talent for combining superb reporting with compelling storytelling as he explores the October Surprise, a real-life spy story that changed American history. DEN OF SPIES is as powerful as Unger's previous investigations yet elevated with a personal narrative of perseverance unlike anything he's written before. Unger delivers in granular detail the most authoritative account yet of the October Surprise of 1980. It is not an overstatement, Unger contends, to say that this act of treason has played an enormous role in shaping the world we live in, from our domestic politics to our current global crises. In Iran, the repercussions from the October Surprise still reverberatetoda y thanks to the brutal, repressive theocracy that remains in place there. In the United States, the October Surprise has become the blueprint for Republican malfeasance in more than forty years of presidential elections, and part of a decades-long legacy of the Democrats' failure to fight back. The pattern culminated with the election of Donald Trump in 2016, which brought with it a new paradigm of shameless cynicism that dismissed inconvenient truths as fake news, validated lies as "alternative facts," and demonized anyone who challenged Trump. "After all these years," Unger writes, "this is not a mystery to solve-at least not in a traditional sense. Rather, it is an attempt to square the circle between something that is both obvious and shrouded, self-evident and lost in the shadows... But if we are to survive as a democracy, it's vital to understand what happened all those years ago. Even if we don't like this part of our past-rather, especially if we don't like it-we must come to terms with it, to acknowledge it, to understand how and why it happened."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Stanley Cup Winning Coach Mike Keenan Releases The Book Iron Mike
The must-read memoir of one of the NHL's most controversial and successful coaches-winner of the 1994 Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers. In the fraternity of NHL coaches, some stand out for their winning records, some for their big personalities and some for their unprecedented methods. Mike Keenan stands out on all these counts, and more. Breaking into the NHL as head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984, Keenan got instant results, leading them to the Stanley Cup final in his first year. In 1987, he coached Team Canada to victory in the Canada Cup using his intuitive bench management, putting superstars Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux together on a line at key times to great, winning results. Keenan's teams succeeded at every level. With championships in university athletics, the OHL and AHL, it seemed only a matter of time before his resumé would include the ultimate prize. One of the NHL's most valuable franchises, the New York Rangers, hadn't won a Cup in fifty-four years-the league's longest championship drought at the time. But with five-time Stanley Cup champion Mark Messier as captain of the star-studded Rangers lineup, there was only one thing missing for a championship run on Broadway: a coach who could focus all the talent and desire on victory. After a season of much controversy, in 1994 the Stanley Cup finally returned to Madison Square Garden, considered by many to be one of the greatest Cup wins by a US-based NHL team. In the hands of veteran sports journalist and bestselling author Scott Morrison, Iron Mike takes readers behind the scenes of one of the most explosive runs to the Cup in NHL history, one that Keenan shares at long last. There is only one Iron Mike in hockey, and love him or hate him, his memoir is an essential read for any fan of the game.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Linkin Park's Legacy In A Book It Starts With One From Billboard's Jason Lipshulz
In an unexpected turn of events, the band just reformed. Jason was tapped by the band to break the story.he can discuss the below items in addition to the book:: - Linkin Park is back, with a new album, new tour dates, new co-vocalist, and new collective outlook. Seven years after the passing of singer Chester Bennington, the band returned in September 2024 with new members Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain, arena tour dates, as well as a new studio album, From Zero, due out in November. - The unexpected announcement resulted in a wave of chatter - as well as some outcry about Emily, the lead singer of Dead Sara, joining the band amidst question marks about her past. Nevertheless, the immediate streaming boom for new single "The Emptiness Machine" and ticket demand for their first shows indicate a highly anticipated comeback. Linkin Park is one of the 21st century's most important rock bands. All it takes is one quick glance at the numbers-11 Top 40 hits on the Hot 100 and six No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, over a dozen massive tours, 27 major award wins, more than 100 million records sold worldwide, over 30 million monthly Spotify listeners-to realize that when it comes to the metrics of music consumption and fandom, there's no bigger group in recent memory. And yet, despite their enduring legacy within rock, there has never been a full, comprehensive biography of Linkin Park-until now. In IT STARTS WITH ONE: The Legend and Legacy of Linkin Park, Billboard's executive director of music, Jason Lipshutz, chronicles the innovation and influence of this legendary band, from their early childhoods to the moment their paths crossed to the genesis of their iconic first album, Hybrid Theory, to everything that followed. Not only were they able to synthesize trends in pop and hip-hop amidst the post-grunge era and nu metal boom, then constantly reinvent their sound over multiple albums, Linkin Park's radically vulnerable lyrics also helped usher in a new era of artists (and fans) more open to discussing mental health and prioritizing inclusivity. Led by front men Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda, who balanced each other out artistically, Linkin Park never shied away from songs that put their issues front and center for the world to see and feel.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Her Story Edith Lemay And Documented By Director Edmund Stenson Blink On Disney+ And Natl Geo
Edith Lemay and Sébastien Pelletier first noticed their daughter, Mia, was having vision problems when she was 3 years old. The diagnosis took years to pinpoint but, by the time Mia was 7, they had identified it as retinitis pigmentosa, a rare genetic condition that causes a loss or decline in vision over time. It skipped their second child, Léo, but both their younger sons, Colin and Laurent, received the same diagnosis. The three children will ultimately lose their eyesight entirely. When The school’s vision impairment advisor suggested they fill the children’s visual memory by looking at pictures in books, Edith thought, ‘I’m not going to show her an elephant in a book; I’m going to take her to see a real elephant…And I’m going to fill her memory with the best, most beautiful images I can.”That’s the subject of the beautiful new documentary film BLINK arriving in theaters October 4. As the Canadian-based family began making plans to spend a year traveling around the globe, they canvassed the children’s opinions on what they wanted to do – which included swimming with dolphins, horseback riding in Mongolia and watching the sunrise from a mountain -- the bucket list became the family’s North Star.As a former resort activity coordinator, Edith Lemay has no shortage of ideas to entertain her little troupe. She is passionate about sunsets and water sports, particularly scuba diving. During the trip, Edith was responsible for the luggage, schooling, meals, and social media. She is rarely seen in photos because she is always behind the camera and will publish a forthcoming book in French about their adventure.Edmund Stenson’s work as director, producer and editor spans both documentary and fiction and focuses on social issues, loners and nomads. Before directing BLINK, he was an associate editor on the BAFTA- and Oscar®-winner Navalny, a documentary-thriller about the Russian dissident’s poisoning. But for Briar Woods, a dancer at Sadler’s Wells Ballet, the past resurfaces and brings her face to face with the truth – and now, it feels as though her war has only just begun. Rosamund vows to protect Jasmine from any peril, but a chance meeting with a Sadler’s Wells dancer changes everything. Culture Writer And Reporter Ashley Spencer Disney High The Untold Story
The first unauthorized look at the inner workings-and ultimate breakdown-of the Disney Channel machine. For many kids growing up in the 2000s, there was no cultural touchstone more powerful than Disney Channel, the most-watched cable channel in primetime at its peak. Today, it might best be known for introducing the world to talents like Hilary Duff, Raven-Symoné, Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and Zendaya. It wasn't always destined for greatness: when The Disney Channel launched in 1983, it was a forgotten stepchild within the Walt Disney Company, forever in the shadow of Disney's more profitable movies and theme parks. But after letting the stars of their Mickey Mouse Club revival-among them Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Ryan Gosling-slip through their fingers, Disney Channel reinvented itself as a powerhouse tween network. In the new millennium, it churned out billions of dollars in original content and triple-threat stars whose careers were almost entirely controlled by the corporation. Suddenly, everyone wanted a piece of the pie-and there were constant clashes between the studio, network, labels, and creatives as Disney Channel became a pressure cooker of perfection for its stars. From private feuds and on-set disasters, to fanfare that swept the nation and the realities of child stardom, culture journalist Ashley Spencer offers the inside story of the heyday of TV's House of Mouse, featuring hundreds of exclusive new interviews with former Disney executives, creatives, and celebrities to explore the highs, lows, and everything in between.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Hollywood Historians Craig Singer And Michael Benson Release Moguls Nicholas And Joseph Schenek
Film lovers have long heard of the legendary names that built Hollywood into a global entertainment empire - Goldwyn, Mankiewicz, Laemmle, Mayer, Loews. But it was The Schenck Brothers, a ruthless pair of Bowery boys, who worked their way up to launch the Hollywood studio system, creating a lasting legacy of 'star maker machinery" while simultaneously breaking all the business rules. MOGULS: The Lives and Times of Film Pioneers Nicholas and Joseph Schenck (Sept. 24, 2024) is co-authored by Producers Guild of America member and film director Craig Singer, and Brooklyn-based writer Michael Benson (Gangsters vs. Nazis). MOGULS is a noirish, incredible Hollywood history. The Schenck brothers held controlling interests in three major studios: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Twentieth Century-Fox, and United Artists (UA). But chances are you've never heard of them because they preferred to run their global empire behind closed doors. Nick was Louis B. Mayer's boss. Think Mank meets Chinatown and LA Confidential, with a heaping dose of Hail, Caesar! and The Godfather II (of course). Twice as powerful as the Warner Brothers, the Schencks were immigrants who quietly ran Hollywood out of the spotlight, bringing film into a world of blazing color. They were as American as jazz and baseball, as flashy as Gatsby, as cunning as gangsters, who controlled a third of the motion picture industry at their height - and were some of the richest men in America.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Director Editor And Music Historian Simon Hilton Releases The John Lennon Story Mind Games
The definitive exploration-told in revelatory detail-of the writing, recording, and release of John Lennon's celebrated and magical fourth solo album Mind Games, and the era that inspired it.Described by Yoko Ono as "ahead of its time," Mind Games is a breakthrough album from John Lennon in which he employs a Plastic Ono Band comprising the cream of the crop of New York session musicians-a fan favorite that remains a cult classic ever since its first release on October 29, 1973. This insightful and beautiful book presents handwritten lyrics, letters, artworks by Lennon and Ono, and previously unseen photography alongside their firsthand commentary about the lyrics, songs, and album artwork, as well as contributions from the musicians, friends, engineers, and key figures involved in the making of this landmark album. Mind Games was the product of an exceptionally turbulent time for the Lennons. While Nixon and Hoover were attempting to have Lennon deported, John and Yoko endured endless litigations and as the popular press turned on them once again, they bravely rose above it all, continuing their campaigns for non-violent peaceful protest to end the war in Vietnam and for equal rights for women. It was also an exciting time when they both re-embraced mysticism and magical thinking. In this sumptuous volume, text and images from the key players are woven together to reveal not only the details behind the creation, recording, and release of this groundbreaking commercial and skillfully crafted recording, but also to shed new light on a period of transformation and experimentation for Lennon and Ono. A Medical Professor At Over 25 Schools Dr Marty Makary Releases Blind Spots
From Johns Hopkins medical expert Dr. Marty Makary, the New York Times-bestselling author of The Price We Pay-an eye-opening look at the medical groupthink that has led to public harm, and what you need to know about your health. More Americans have peanut allergies today than at any point in history. Why? In 2000, the American Academy of Pediatrics issued a strict recommendation that parents avoid giving their children peanut products until they're three years old. Getting the science perfectly backward, triggering intolerance with lack of early exposure, the US now leads the world in peanut allergies-and this misinformation is still rearing its head today. How could the experts have gotten it so wrong? Dr. Marty Makary asks, Could it be that many modern-day health crises have been caused by the hubris of the medical establishment? Experts said for decades that opioids were not addictive, igniting the opioid crisis. They refused menopausal women hormone replacement therapy, causing unnecessary suffering. They demonized natural fat in foods, driving Americans to processed carbohydrates as obesity rates soared. They told citizens that there are no downsides to antibiotics and prescribed them liberally, causing a drug-resistant bacteria crisis. When modern medicine issues recommendations based on good scientific studies, it shines. Conversely, when modern medicine is interpreted through the harsh lens of opinion and edict, it can mold beliefs that harm patients and stunt research for decades. In Blind Spots, Dr. Makary explores the latest research on critical topics ranging from the microbiome to childbirth to nutrition and longevity and more, revealing the biggest blind spots of modern medicine and tackling the most urgent yet unsung issues in our $4.5 trillion health care ecosystem. The path to medical mishaps can be absurd, entertaining, and jaw-dropping-but the truth is essential to our health.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
