The Silly Season Is Here
The silly seasons has begun and Bourbon hunters are out in full effect all ready. So this week I am rambling about that while doing a comparative tasting of a limited release, the Wild Turkey 8yr 101, with regular Wild Turkey 101. I also get in a little bit about a couple biographies that I have read recently. If you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and click the follow button and give it a rating. More Than Bourbon
It's good to be back. I was off last week because in was in Kentucky visiting Makers Mark. So this week, I am talking about my visit to Maker's, tasting some of the bottles that I brought back, and discussing how Louisville is about more than Bourbon. Drink 2 Musik 2
This episode was supposed to be a full episode about music that I love. Then a weird thing happened on Instagram, and I got sent an interesting article on the spirits industry, which scrambled everything up. So I tried to cram everything into this episode, and had alot of fun doing. Plus, as always, I'm tasting some fun spirits. Another Sizeable Amount of Samples
One of the great ways that we can connect through spirits is the sharing of samples. Whether it is rare spirits, quirky bottles, or just something you know somebody would enjoy, it truly has become something that I really enjoy. So on this episode I am tasting some samples that were given to me recently by one of my customers. Plus I get in a little rant about the trend of everything being everything. Listen and you hear what I'm talking about. If you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and click the follow button and give it a rating. Is It Worth It?
We are about to enter to silly season for expensive, limited release bottles, and consumers are going to have to decide how many bottles to buy and how much they are willing to spend. so on this episode, I am tasting some limited release bottles of varying price points, and sharing my thoughts on why I made the purchases. Then I am deciding if they are worth the money. If you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and click the follow button and give it a rating. Bourbon Heritage Jim Beam
After last week's "whisper" episode, I'm hoping this week sounds better. This week I am talking about one of the absolute best Bourbon distilleries, Jim Beam. I also play a recording of Mr Van Winkle talking about protecting the quality and "prestige" of a brand, that I think is a part of the problem of the Bourbon world. All while drinking some Beam made Bourbons. I had a lot of fun with this one. if you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and click the follow button and give it a rating. Bourbon Heritage Heaven Hill
Bourbon is fantastic. The people who make Bourbon are fantastic. The people who work at distilleries that make Bourbon are fantastic. The corporations that control the sales and availability of Bourbon, and the people who "hunt" it are what sucks.
This week I am celebrating Bourbon Heritage Month by tasting some Bourbon from a distillery that had more heritage than almost anyone, Heaven Hill. And I make a case that they are one of the 3 best Bourbon distilleries.

Wiggly Bridge
On this week's episode, I am talking about my summer vacation and a trip I took to Wiggly Bridge Distillery in York, Maine. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise at how good thier spirits were, and how the great the people who work there are. They make a whole lineup of spirits, and I had to leave with a few bottles that I am tasting on this episode. If you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and click the follow button. End Of Summer Check In
As summer starts to come to a close, as well as my summer break from recording, I decided to do a little check in episode. In a Rabbit Hole
After a few weeks off from recording, I missed it and had a bunch of thoughts in my head. So I decided to throw together a fun little bonus summer episode, and as it turned out I also had some very cool new bottles to taste. So, this week, while tasting these bottles, I'm talking about some books, movies and music that are reminding and educating me about our history. It's been a fascinating, educational, and entertaining Rabbit Hole for sure. If you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and click the follow button. Portland,Maine in 6 Bottles
Recently I spent a weekend in Portland, Maine , a place I had never been. I was determined to disconnect and be present to fully immerse myself in the culture of Portland. I was also determined to find some interesting bottles to bring back that were not Bourbon. On this episode I am sharing my thoughts on those experiences. State of The Spirits Industry
It is an interesting time in the spirits industry, in a post covid world. There are articles coming out all the time offering perspectives from suppliers and wholesalers, but nothing from the people on the ground level in retail stores. That is what I am talking about this week, all while tasting some good Tequila. This may be one my favorite episodes that I have done. Sneakers and Whiskey
This week I was inspired by a discussion I heard comparing sneaker collectors (sneakerheads) to bourbon buyers. Also, I got away to New Hampshire this weekend, which means a trip to the New Hampshire Liquor, which led to a couple of great purchases, and a rabbit hole dive into a Willy Wonka-esque distillery. Psychology
After recording last week's episode I realized that I never got to the point of what started the rant originally, so this week I am following up on that and explaining what set me off. Also I am tasting the new A. Overholt from Jim Beam, a return to the roots of the Overholt brand. I'm also tasting it side by side with the standard Old Overholt. I'm also tasting my latest delivery from Seelbachs, the Blue Note Crossroads. If you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and click the follow button and give it a rating. Marketing
Happy Easter. This week I happened to listen to a podcast that Fred is part of, and the topic was psychology and marketing, and some of what I heard I just could not let go. So as I discuss some of the nonsense, I decided to take the opportunity to taste some special limited edition bottlings. St Patrick's Day
I apologize for the late episode this week. On this week's episode I am stuck between my 2 least favorite days to be a bartender, St Patrick's Day and the St Patrick's Day Parade. But it does give me a reason to taste some really Irish Whiskies, so I guess it can't be all that bad. Fred Again
I didn't want to do this again, but I couldn't resist. Fred posted another video of his thoughts on the current state of Bourbon, and I couldn't resist the opportunity to break it down. I'm also tasting a new favorite, an old favorite, and another disappointing offering. In the end, it's all a good time. The Best of Times, The Worst of Times
On this episode I am tasting a variety of Whiskies, includinga couple that I got delivered to me from Seelbachs. The fact that Seelbachs is now deliveringto Mass is going to be a gamechanger, albeit a costly one. I also go a little Charles Dickens talking about it being the best and worst of times in the spirit world. It's Gone Too Far
This week I had a whole episode all planned out, and then I saw a video on Instagram that got me so fired up that immediately went home, hit the record button, and let all my thoughts out. The self importance of some people in the Bourbon world has gone too far, and I couldn't let it go. This may be the most off the cuff episode I have done. A Disappointing Start
Welcome to 2024 and welcome back to the podcast. My plan for the return of the podcast was to focus on more music, movies, books and other cultural things. But a few things happened in the borderland between the end of last year and the start of this one that I just had to get out. These include 3 disappointing Whiskies to start the year off with. But it's not all bad. On this episode I taste some alcoholic and some non alcoholic stuff and share some thoughts on the industry. Overall it's a good feeling to be back. Brandy Roundtable Discussion Part 1
This episode is the second Spirits Guide Inner Circle Roundtable discussion, and this time we are talking about Brandy. Why Brandy you ask?, because Brandy is one of the first ever spirits, and it is also a global spirit. Almost every country that has fruit makes a Brandy of some sort, and on this episode we are tasting as many different types as we can. The conversation was so good, and went so long that it had to be divided up in to 2 parts. Here is part 1, hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Bourbon Roundtable Discussion
This is it, the episode I have wanted to do since I came up with this podcast, a roundtable discussion with some of my favorite people to drink with. This is the first(but certainly not the last) Inner Circle Roundtable discussion of Bourbon. Everyone was tasked with bringing one bottle of Bourbon for us to drink and discuss. The Bourbon were all great, with a surprise or 2 along the way, but the conversation and the company was even better. I am already looking forward to the next one. Uncut/Unfiltered
On this week's episode I am sick(as you'll hear in the sound of my voice), so I didn't get to record what I had planned. Fortunately (or unfortunately, that's up to you), prior to getting sick I had the brilliant (?) idea of drinking a whole bunch of barrel proof spirits and recording whatever came out of my mouth. So this may be brilliance, or it may be terrible. Whatever it is, it is me uncut and unfiltered. If you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and follow and give it a rating. This week I am again combining 2 of my biggest passions, music and spirits. This time I have picked 5 albums that I can always go back and listen too that make me feel good, with 5 spirits that are always on my home bar, that can always go back to and enjoy. The only special about these albums and spirits, is that I enjoy them, and in the end that's all that matters. If you like what I am doing here go to the podcast page and follow and give it a rating.
