#390 - How to Make Decisions with a Big Group
My guess is you come across these fairly often but most certainly this time of year. Making decisions with a big group usually starts with someone in that group asking “what are we going to do about [fill in the blank]?” And the decision fatigue and task paralysis begin. So whether that’s you and your in-laws with the Thanksgiving split, you and friends with your annual holiday party, or you and your immediate family with gift giving, I think this episode will be helpful.

#388 - The Most Freeing Piece of Time Management Advice You’ll Ever Hear
The PLAN, my book on compassionate time management has been in the world for two weeks now, and I really hope you all have been enjoying it.
Books stick with us when there are catchy things, right? Frameworks, acronyms, illustrations, and analogies. The PLAN has all of those, but I wanted to spend a little time talking today about one of those analogies, and it, to me, is one of the most freeing pieces of time management advice you’ll ever hear.

#387 - 7 Things I Do When Life Feels Chaotic
Even the best compassionate time management practices won’t make chaos go away. In fact, compassionate time management just helps us feel more calm in the chaotic storms that life will always throw at us. We can’t always control the chaos. So when it hits, it’s nice to have some things you go to automatically that help you stay grounded, whole, and very much yourself when life feels chaotic. Today, I’m sharing 7 things I do when life feels chaotic.

#386 - 10 Reasons Why Compassionate Time Management Changes Everything
Compassionate time management is needed, and I believe that I am uniquely qualified to teach, share, and encourage it. I’m a recovering perfectionist, I’m good at systems, I’m a student of personal growth, I’m a therapy patient, and I’m a teacher. All of those things together have made me see the world through this very specific lens of compassion, and tomorrow is the day that the book I wrote to teach compassionate time management releases into the world.

# 385 - How to Manage an Odd Stretch of Time
An odd stretch of time is when something significant changes the vibe of your daily life over a handful of days. Whether it’s a sickness, an injury, a guest, a project, it impacts your routines. It upends previously settled calendar logistics. It’s not always bad or even unwanted. It’s just odd. Let’s talk about navigating it well.

#384 - 3 Time Management Shifts That Will Change Your Life
I’ve been doing a lot of interviews recently, and a lot of the questions are understandably connected to the things we could or should be doing to have a better day. What are the routines, the tasks, the hacks that can get us to a place where we feel like we’re not underwater all the time? Well, the most accurate answer is that those aren’t the questions we should be asking. We really need a huge paradigm shift, and today, I want to focus on aspects of time management we’ve been getting wrong.

We do What’s Saving My Life episodes regularly, just about every quarter, and I find the practice helpful, light, enjoyable, and necessary to keep me rooted in my season. But today is a little different because it is a Hall of Fame episode.
Remember, this is my personal list. This is not supposed to be replicated. Hear why these things are on my list to help you make yours, but by no means should our lists be the same.

#382 - How to Manage Calendar Logistics
Everyone has calendars to logistic (I know that’s not right, but I like it), and for certain people, seasons, families, those logistics feel like they’re going to eat you alive. Right now, my Google calendar has so many blocks in it, some of which overlap and I haven’t quite figured out how to reconcile those overlaps yet. It’s a whole thing, and maybe your calendar looks or at least feels like that.
So let’s talk about how to do this like a Lazy Genius. How can you manage calendar logistics in a reasonably efficient, intentionally kind way?

#381 - The Real Reason Planning Is Hard
We’re into compassionate time management around here, but it’s not just pep talks and high fives. We’re practical and kind, but we’re also educated. We are trying to understand why we struggle with time management, why we own so many planners, why we never feel like we’re doing enough, and even if we finally have let that go, we still struggle against the tide of everyone else making us feel bad for our beliefs.
Basically, the problem is not you, and today I’m going to show you why by reading you the first chapter in my new book, out October 8, called The PLAN.

#380 - Finding What You Need When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed
When you feel overwhelmed without knowing what to do, the overwhelming feeling stays big and might get bigger which then feels like a problem. So here you are, overwhelmed, unsure of what to do about it; the feeling gets bigger, the problem, even though it’s unnamed, also gets bigger, and so you start throwing big solutions at an unnamed problem that don’t work, which then causes you to feel even more overwhelmed.
Instead, today I want to share with you seven ways to meet overwhelm.

#372 - 10 Things I Wish I’d Known In My 20s
As often happens when we go through life, we learn things along the way. And sometimes we learn things that we so desperately wish we had learned earlier. Does that negate their value now? No. Is learning part of the process? Of course. But I think we can learn a lot about ourselves now by acknowledging what we have already learned. Since it’s middle of summer energy, this felt like a great time to share ten things I wish I’d known in my 20s. Let’s jump right in.

#361 - Two Things That Make Friendship Easier
No matter your level of extroversion or introversion, your age, your life stage, or any other factor, we all need friends. I tend to focus on more concrete things on the show, but I think that one of the reasons we struggle to find and maintain meaningful relationships is partly a logistical one. And yet, finding time to connect with people is just as important if not more important than finding time to pay your bills and cook your meals and tend to your job and your home and all the things. Let’s explore ways we can Lazy Genius friendship.

#360 - A Pep Talk for the Perpetually Tired
Is this maybe the most appropriately named pep talk of all time? Quite possibly. I have a feeling a lot of you always feel tired. In fact, like me, you feel tired so often that it’s annoying at this point. You’re tired of being tired. Will we ever not be tired?!
I think we all need some solidarity in this space as well as some practical help. My goal is for you to get both.

#359 - 7 Routines That Work for Me
While this episode is definitely seven routines that work for me, the reason I’m sharing them is not so that you will do them because they’ll work. It’s more to see how I arrived at certain routines, what priorities they support, and maybe they’ll inspire a small change or adjustment in your own routine that could make your life work better for you and the season you’re in.

We all have places we need to go, and we want to kindly and efficiently get there. That looks different for everyone though. I’m going to break this episode down into three sections: expectations, kindly getting there, and how to bring in efficiency. Do not skip straight to part three, please.

#356 What’s Saving My Life Right Now
This is a beloved quarterly episode where I share the things in my life that are saving it. It could be products that bring joy or efficiency, moments that make me feel like myself, things I’m looking forward to… the list is varied every time.
The practice, though, is just as important as the list itself, which is why I encourage you to ask yourself this question on occasion: what’s saving your life right now?

#348 - Why Habits Don't Demand Perfection with James Clear
I’m no stranger to self-help books. Most of them have left me wanting, leaving me feeling like I’ve been given more to do. But when I read Atomic Habits by James Clear in early 2019, I remember thinking it was the best self-help book I had ever read. It’s no surprise that it’s sold 15 million copies since it debuted. And I’m delighted to have James on the show today to talk about habits and how we can approach them as Lazy Geniuses.

#347 - How to Know What Brings You Joy
Over the years of this podcast, we’ve simply been tweaking the order of how we live, starting with who we are today, not who we wish to be in the future.
That’s why on this first day of the year, I don’t want to talk about goals and habits and starting a new year. All three of those things are actually quite valuable and a normal part of our lives, and we’ll even talk about some of them over the next few weeks. Today, however, I want to start somewhere else. I want us to start with what brings you joy.
