#296 - How to Lazy Genius Your Habits
It is January, and we have that fresh start energy, right? Today, we won’t deep dive on habits because this is a podcast episode, but maybe you don’t need a deep dive. You just need a reminder or two as you move into the new year. Let’s gain some perspective on habits as we begin or end them.

#295 - How to Start Fresh Without Starting Over
It’s January, it’s the beginning of a new year, and our options used to be either lazy or genius. We’ve been trying to be geniuses about the start of a new year for too long, but the alternative is not ignoring it or dismissing it or saying that the new year doesn’t matter. There can be something really special about coming out of a busy holiday season, getting a new planner, and starting fresh. But starting fresh does not mean you have to start over, so today we’re going to talk about the Lazy Genius way to approach a new year.

Bonus: How I Read 120 Books This Year
This is not an episode of bragging. This is not an episode to make you feel like you should figure out a way to read 120 books or 20 books or 200 books or whatever. It is about what can happen when you actively choose to be a genius about something that matters, like reading matters to me.

We are entering the week before Christmas. I don’t want to take up too much of your enjoyment time with a podcast episode, but I do want to say a few words about something I think we so easily forget around the holidays. This week, I want to talk about how we think about time.

#292 - How to Enjoy the Last Two Weeks of the Year
We have done so much work these last few weeks of figuring out how to manage our expectations and our holiday home and our time and our tasks and all the things. But we don’t want just to manage the holidays. We want to enjoy our life, and this time of year is one where you might actually have margin to do that. So that’s what this episode is. #290 - Managing Your Holiday Home
There’s a decent chance that while you love the feeling of the holidays in your home, you’re also a little overwhelmed by it. There’s the regular upkeep of one’s home - the general cleaning and tidying, but there’s also a lot of extra stuff around the house this time of year. And because our tendency is to be fairly extreme in our response to challenges - either try hard or give up - we stay overwhelmed. Let’s create a small solution to the normal challenges of a holiday home so we can enjoy it while the holidays are here.

#285 How to Parent When Kids Constantly Change
Being with and loving and helping guide kids is a privilege, a challenge, and can be exhausting. What works today won’t work tomorrow. What works for this kid won’t work for that kid. #283 What It Really Means to be a Neighbor with Shannan Martin
This is one of the best conversations I've ever had. Shannan Martin is the author of Start with Hello, a beautiful book about being a neighbor. She is a true Lazy Genius in this area and offers so many ways to start small in our relationships, for example with saying hello. This book transcends neighborhoods, lifestyles, and family structures. We also share places we've been awkward as neighbors and how one interaction, even if it's the last one, has a significant impact. You will eat this up, you guys. What a gift this conversation was to me and will be to you, too.

#280 - How to Find Your Personal Style
A couple of weeks ago, I put up a very unofficial poll on Instagram asking what clothing-related problem was your biggest challenge, and finding your own personal style won out. This might feel like a problem no one else has, but let me assure it is not. It is not a singular problem that you struggle with that most people already have figured out. In fact, I think that it’s bigger than even I realized, so that’s what we’re going to talk about today - how to find your personal style.

#273 - How to Cross the Summer Finish Line
The summer-to-fall transition can feel murky, especially if you have kids or work in education. There’s not a clean mark between the end of this and the start of that. Which means it feels like we’re neither beginning nor ending anything. We are not crossing finish lines or hearing starting guns. We’re just running around like headless chickens. #272 The Complete Guide to Seasonal Ceremonies
I haven’t talked about opening and closing ceremonies (or what I now have shortened and broadened to seasonal ceremonies) in a while. Even though a lot of you are familiar with them, we haven’t done a full-on episode about them before if you can believe it! Plus, I love this idea of a new name that will broaden our definition a little.

#270 - A 2022 Midsummer Pep Talk
Let’s do a quick little midsummer pep talk for the year of 2022 that just keeps outdoing its big brothers, 2020 and 2021. There are so many things that can impact our day, and right now, it feels like the intensity of the sensory input is extra sharp and edgy. Summer by itself often gives us reason to see things differently.

#267 - Find Your Summer Reading Rhythm
My goal is that you listen to these next twenty minutes or so and you leave with the following pieces of information: what matters most to you about your reading over the next two or three months, an idea of how to find things to read that make sense for you, and a simple - I mean, ridiculously simple - summer reading rhythm. This is not me telling you what I do, expecting you to take the same approach.

#266 - How to Lazy Genius a Summer at the Pool
First, there’s a different strategy when you’re visiting the pool once or twice versus going to the pool again and again. If you’re going as a guest, you pack your bag with towels and snacks and whatever you or your kids need for the day, you go, you have fun, and you come home. One-off experiences are generally a little more forgiving. It’s the repeated ones that can be a bit frustrating.
This episode is going to be focused on spending multiple days a week or basically spending the summer at the pool. There will be some great tips for people who only go once or twice or maybe go to the beach or just summer outings in general, but the focus here is going to the pool again and again.

#262 Answers to The Magic Question That Paid Off
The Magic Question is what can I do now to make something easier later? The smaller the something, the easier the solution. When you ask the magic question, you usually get a pretty quick win. When you get in the habit of asking that question and then noticing how even the simplest answers can positively impact your day and your time and your energy and your attitude, you want to keep asking! It’s a great question.

#260 - Let’s Lazy Genius Your Kitchen
Last week I shared part one of The Lazy Genius Kitchen where I teach the five steps, and today I want to apply those five steps to a few specific areas of the kitchen, just like I do in part two of the book! Now today, I’m not using any material from part two of the book; I’m not repeating what’s in there. What I am doing is taking specific problems that you all have and applying the five Lazy Genius steps to those problems to see if we can find some solutions.

#258 - The Seven Kinds of Rest and How to Know Which One You Need
Rest itself is such a needed thing for all of us. After all, a Lazy Genius principle is to schedule rest, mostly because we just let it happen and it never does. But I have also been paying a lot of attention to the different kinds of rest and why certain kinds don’t always land for us. Or why we take the time to rest but still feel unfilled after. A conversation around the nuance of rest is desperately needed, especially when a lot of us are working with less margin than we ever have before. So let’s dive in.

#256 - How to Make Time for Fun
We are very good at talking about productive things, domestic things, hard being-a-person things, but we don’t often talk about specifically fun things. The busier we are, the more humans we interact with and care for, the more we don’t deal with the mounting pressure of what it means to be a person in this world right now, we don’t leave a lot of room for fun. And I want us to actually systemize it today. I want us to Lazy Genius fun and for you to figure out how to add more fun to your life on purpose.
