Episode 126: Overcoming a Seeming Death Sentence to Discover a Hidden Heavenly Fire with Tahni Cullen

In the spirit of overcoming tremendous adversity, as we discussed in our previous episode with Mark Black, we introduce to you today Tahni Cullen. Tahni was blessed with a beautiful baby, who was named Josiah, "Fire of God." However, within just a couple of years, it was evident that Josiah was a bit different. He was sadly diagnosed with autism, leaving Tahni and her husband devastated.Yet, rather than wallow in self-pity, Tahni and her husband chose to seek the best care for Josiah, which eventually led them to realize that Josiah may be different from his peers, but he has a true fire within that inspires others in ways so-called "ordinary" people can.In this interview with Tahni, you'll learn:-The discovery of Josiah's autism, and the initial response to it...02:45-Where is hope when there is no hope?...05:45-Vaccines and inoculations and their role in bringing about autism...08:50-The moment Tahni had a ray of hope for the future of Josiah...14:00-Josiah has a major breakthrough in his learning and development!...19:00-You'll do anything to help a child become what God means for it to become...22:10-The importance of self-care while caring for another...28:00-Supportive relationships outside the marriage while caring for a special-needs child...34:00-Surprising results from Tahni writing her book about her experiences...37:00-And much more...Resources mentioned:Josiah's Fire bookJosiah's Fire Facebook pageGuest's bio and social handles:I have loved God and the Bible for as long as I can remember. I was seven-years-old when my daddy built me a wooden pulpit. I put on my plaid three-piece wool suit on a snowed-in Sunday to deliver a message on obedience to my family in the living room. Then, one day as this wonderful invention showed up at our house–a VCR–I picked up a flair for the theatrical as I would rewind and rehearse lines from the likes of “Anne of Green Gables.” The love of communication in writing, speaking, theater and sharing compelling stories has always run deep for me. It’s funny how you can trace those traits way back even to your childhood.Little did I know that language and expression that I loved the most would be whisked away from my only son, leaving me wounded and speechless before my God. An autism diagnosis at age two for our little boy, Josiah, was so swift, so final, with the words, “No known cause. No known cure. Lifelong.” My deepest question was, “Wow, what happens to hope when there is no hope?” Everything that I loved, believed in, and thought I knew about God got tested. If Jesus was Burden-Bearer, I knew somehow I would have to see if He would be that for me when the pressure of sickness, work, marriage, loneliness, finances, and spiritual wrestling dog-piled on our lives.Like so many things—impossible things—we are told to accept them and to learn to manage and to cope. The world is always trying to get us to just face facts and not to get our hopes up. “Your daughter is dead, Jairus. Why bother the teacher anymore?” But just when the facts start to get locked in as the “final answer,” if we listen hard enough, we will always hear Jesus say the same words He said to this dented father: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” Does the same Jesus we serve today still sound like this? It’s a complex road these days to a simple faith like this: don’t fear; just believe. I’d been desperately pursuing healing for five years, and learned so much about what intimacy with God, my identity in Christ, and my inheritance really meant to living out a Christ-following life. But despite our gallant efforts to help our son, my boy still

But we made it through okay, and the entire experience made us think about how we're so often driven by fear when calculating risks in our lives. We asked ourselves questions like:Why do we so often assume the absolute worst is going to happen when making decisions? If we're making a decision believing God will have our back, is it really a risk at all?How can we strengthen our faith in God so that some of the natural fear we experience when making decisions will dissipate a bit?We decided to sit down and record a podcast for you all on this topic. We hope you enjoy it, and come away from it encouraged in God's ability to deliver us from that which we fear when we walk trusting in Him.In this episode you'll discover:-Wendie and Todd went through a major risk while visiting San Diego...03:30-What is God showing you regarding the risk you're taking?...09:00-We tend to go to the negative things when weighing outcomes...12:45-Fear is rooted in not trusting God to deliver you from your trial...17:00-And much more...Resources mentioned:Your Biggest Breakthrough Episode 94 with Justin MainaCall to action:Make sure to visit yourbiggestbreakthrough.com for your FREE access to our e-book and audiobook, "Unstoppable: Divine Intervention in Overcoming Adversity," showcasing six powerful real-life stories. Episode 119: Arranged Marriages, Revolting Women Against Tyranny, and Speaking Truth to Life with Lily Meschi of Iran Alive Ministries!

Today's episode is a bit of a follow up to our recent episode featuring Dr. Hormoz Shariat of Iran Alive ministries. It features Lily Meschi, the Director of Partner Relations with Iran Alive. Like virtually all Iranians, Lily grew up in a fundamentalist Muslim home, being taught that God is "always angry" with humanity, and that we should fear Him. Not in a positive way that we in the West may think of fearing God, but perpetual fear that God would judge, convict and execute for committing sins. After entering an arranged marriage, which eventually ended badly, Lily relied on the truth of the Scriptures to endure through years of abuse, isolation and uncertainty. Now Lily is alive in spirit, and works tirelessly to raise awareness of the many human rights abuses which take place in Iran - and share stories of victory over human and spiritual oppression through the power of the Gospel! In this episode, you'll learn:-Lily's story of being raised in a fundamentalist home, and finding the Lord as a young adult...04:00-How Lily's life drastically changed in wake of her father's bankruptcy in Iran...08:50-Life growing up with arranged marriages, and having eyes opened to marrying for love after leaving...15:23-Confused and isolated by enduring abuse and not being able to confide with loved ones about the struggles...21:00-Stricken by "behold, all things become new" almost immediately after praying to be set free from bondage...26:00-Leaving the troubled marriage for the sake of sanity, and the welfare of her child...30:15-Thoughts on the ongoing women's uprising in Iran from the perspective of the Gospel...36:45-What is Iran Alive up to now?...41:00-And much more...Resources mentioned:Iran AliveIran's Great Awakening by Hormoz ShariatGuest's bio and social handles:IG: @lily_meschi and @iran.alive.ministriesLily Meschi: Director of Partner Relations for Iran Alive. At the age of 18, her family moved to the U.S. Through a chain of painful hardships relating to her rights as anIranian woman, Lily came to discover Christianity. In her freedom found in her own testimony, she has developed a heart for Iranian women who, like herself, have undergone similar oppression and loneliness.Lily often speaks on the corrupt practices of arranged marriages of young women to older men in the Middle East, amongst other norms in their societies. She takes pride in working at Iran Alive Ministries, where she can speak about cultural dispositions such as arranged marriages and the strong grip of abusive male domination in the culture.Lily first heard about Iran Alive Ministries from a satellite television program. Encouraged in hearing the Gospel from an Iranian woman in a way she could understand, her passion for Christianity grew—so much so that she went on to pursue education in Bible college, learning more about the faith and history of Christianity.Professionally, she’s operated in several Fortune 500 companies, boutique retail banking institutions and in wholesale investing in the financial industry. Episode 118: Invincible Joy, and Chasing "God-Sized Dreams" with Oliver Asher

We begin today's episode asking the question, "What's the difference between joy and happiness?" Wait, doesn't joy mean happiness? No, not necessarily. Joy oftentimes means seeing the good in sometimes overwhelmingly unhappy circumstances. Our guest began his walk on this earth in circumstances that may seem to be unhappy to many of us. Such as living in a tool shed with no electricity for 6 years. But through that, and even losing a sibling as a child, Oliver Asher learned to embrace God's love whether his soul was happy or sorrowful. Now Oliver specializes in international missions, helping others around the globe come to the same realization he did so many years ago. That happiness is not what we should pursue - but to be joyful in spite of our circumstances, for better or for worse. In this episode, you'll learn:-How to distinguish "joy" from "happiness" and the importance to embrace joy in all circumstances...04:30-a fresh start after a rocky beginning to life at age 14...06:15-Oliver's first "God-sized dream" was attending college at U. of Virginia...12:00-Discovering joy (not necessarily happiness) in the face of incredibly difficult circumstances...16:30-Positive influences (guardian angels) in Oliver's life...19:30-Learning to rely on God during the first years in college...22:45-Walking in faith with the decision to relocate to the DR...28:20-"Dreams" without a plan is a fantasy...31:40-The two essential questions to ask when you're pursuing a "God-sized dream"...33:10-"Invincible joy" is Jesus within you, the hope of glory...37:45-Oliver's future plans for ministry...41:30-And much more...Resources mentioned:Oliver's WebsiteGuest's bio and social handles:Instagram: @oliverasherofficialFacebookOliver and his wife Andrea graduated from the University of Virginia, married, and moved to the Dominican Republic to be missionaries - all in the space of three months. Their life together with Jesus and their 5 children has continued to be an adventure. After completing his master’s in civil engineering at UVA, the Lord called Oliver to Advancing Native Missions after he had worked as an environmental engineer. Oliver has a passion for building teams. He loves encouraging the ANM staff; and both equipping, and advocating for native missionaries as they endeavor to reach the remaining unreached people groups of the world with the Gospel of Jesus. From Oliver Asher:"I'm not an extraordinary person. I came from next to nothing, from almost nowhere. But God had a plan and a purpose for my life. He picked me up from where I was and took me places I could never have expected to go. He invited me to join him in chasing his God-sized dreams for the world. And that is where I found invincible joy. “You may have the same story. Or at least you can, and I hope you will. That's what this book is for. I pray you will benefit from my story as you follow the Lord on your own adventure from where you came to where he wants to take you. I believe, as the Lord leads, you will end up with a stronger sense of God's purpose for your life and your place in his plan for the world. That's where you can find invincible joy too."About Advancing Native Missions: Since 1992, Advancing Native Missions (ANM) has helped individual Christians and local churches get involved in global missions in ways that make sense for them. ANM believes there’s a place for everyone in God’s global mission, even if they can’t travel to distant countries and remote tribes. Instead of sending American missionaries to other countries,...

Episode 116: Jeremiah 29:11...In Heavy Metal Format with Benny DiChiara

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11This familiar scripture is the rallying cry for our guest in today's episode. Benny DiChiara suffered a TBI (traumatic brain injury) in 2015. No one knows exactly what caused him to lose consciousness and hit his head when he fell. But it put him in his place, and gave him time to rest and think on what he really should be doing with his life. After hearing a call (literally) to form a new band, he wrote the lyrics for a song based on Jeremiah 29:11. Empowered has proven to be immensely popular with the youth, and shares God's love through their music. And although Benny lost his sense of taste in the aftermath of his fall in 2015, he certainly didn't lose his zany sense of humor, as you'll hear in this episode! In this episode with Benny, you'll learn:-The "incredible accident" which brought a new awareness of God's grace...03:00-God spoke to Benny while recovering from his accident...11:15-How a lifetime church attender finally found a personal relationship with Jesus...17:11-Understand the real story of those who appear to be "successful"...25:03-The story behind Benny's new album Yahweh Nissi...28:00-"If people don't feel Jesus when we're performing, we need to just quit"...34:35-How Benny got involved with Children's Cup ministries...37:20-One thing about Benny most people don't know...42:00-And much more...Resources mentioned:Rockin 4 Jesus websiteChildren's Cup ministriesGuest's bio and social handles:Instagram: @benny777 and @empowered_rockin4jesusFacebookBenny DiChiara is not fragile, yet he understands the fragility of life. He is not lost, but he knows the aimless paths of those who wander. He is not a victim, but he has experienced life-saving salvation from the inside out. His world has been shaken, but his feet are planted firmly on the strongest of foundations. And even as he faced an abyss of the unknown, he never did so alone. In October 2015, the singer, songwriter, businessman, motivational speaker, father, and husband endured a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that placed his life and future in peril. A fall sent him to the emergency room and ICU with a concussion and closed fracture of the skull base with subarachnoid, subdural, and extradural hemorrhage. The catastrophic injury could have easily ended his life or, at the least, compromised the quality of it. "I absolutely remember nothing from the first month after my injury," he shares. "It's just gone. Once I started to come out of it, there were memory gaps, speech issues, and walking issues. Everything looked surreal." The battle for his life and mind was not easy or quick. Amid the struggle, though, he clung to the knowledge that the battle for his heart had already been won. "I liken the experience to someone who is just lost, who feels like they cannot find their way," he shares. "You have no answers. But then there's Jesus." Hand-in-hand with his Savior, DiChiara not only defied medical odds; he discovered and plumbed the depths of burgeoning creative inspiration that merged into the most recent EP from his band, Empowered, entitled Three Days. "As I recovered, the injury did not affect my ability to make music," he shares. "I was afraid I would lose that gifting. Instead, He has elevated that gift."...

Our guest on today's episode has been called the "Billy Graham of Iran" by Joel Rosenberg. Dr. Hormoz Shariat grew up in a Muslim household in Iran, and found himself wondering "what does all this mean?" They recited the prayers day after day, yet there was no inward stirring. The other party sometimes just loses interest in the other person, loses sight of the vision they once had for their marriage. What are you to do? Amanda Carroll's former husband told her one night he was leaving her and their three children. Episode 106: The Journey to Glory Isn't Without Its Pitfalls and Roadblocks with Richard Ronsisvalle

"Serve God," they said. "It will be fun!" they said. "Your life will be infinitely better," they said. While we don't really know who "they" are, we do know that serving God is sometimes touted as a blissful experience, that once you do so you'll never experience pain or heartache. The reality could not be further from that. Sometimes we put our faith in God, only to have a tragedy occur such as the loss of a child. The mother of our guest, Richard Ronsisvalle, had that very thing happen, and nearly lost her fledgling faith as a result. But she resolved to strengthen her faith, and in turn led every last one of her 11 children to God.As a very young man, Richard heard the call to preach the gospel. This meant turning down many offers from some of the biggest studios in America who wanted to record his beautiful baritone voice so he could fulfill his calling.Service to God meant forsaking everything dear to attend 24/7 to his wife who had developed dementia and Alzheimer's. While finding a fine nursing home would have been convenient, and on the surface would have allowed Richard to perform his ministry, he chose the inconvenient (and far less lucrative) path of honoring the scriptural admonition for a man to love his wife, even as Christ loved the church. We hope you'll listen to today's episode and find courage to persevere through any challenge you're enduring and ultimately find true joy in obeying God over pursuing any personal or earthly ambition! In this episode, you'll learn:-How Richard's parents had a marriage arranged by their parents, and truly by God...05:30-A special child is born into the Ronsisvalle family, but sadly passes at age 3...12:15-How God used the tragedy of baby Jimmy to help Richard's mother find a breakthrough in faith...15:00-Never underestimate the power of the presence of God while at church in person with other believers...20:30-Why Richard turned down multiple recording contracts with some of the biggest platforms in America because of his calling to preach the gospel...24:00-Richard's current ministry is borne from a calling shared by a pastor friend....29:21-How Richard met his wife - while trying to set her up with his older brother...35:06-Unconditional love illustrated through Richard's care for his wife while she was seriously ill...40:25-A call to men to love our wives and walk in obedience, even when it appears God has abandoned us....47:30-A prayer for our listeners to be strengthened in the Spirit...53:00Resources mentioned:Reality 21Guest's bio and social handles:FacebookRichard Ronsisvalle was born in Washington, DC and now resides in Central Florida. He is considered to be one of America’s foremost teaching preachers and one of the most unique singers in Gospel music. Richard is the author of various books and has produced several musical recordings. He has served as a senior pastor and presently ministers in seminars and conferences throughout the United States and many countries around the world. Richard Ronsisvalle is the President of Reality 21 which sponsors the world outreach of This ministry. Richard is a member of a large family in which all eleven siblings have become Christians and has led his own family of two children to become believers. As a result, he conducts family seminars on how a family can realize God’s vision for their lives. The results are miraculous. If the message of the Gospel is not a true description of reality, it is not in any way truth at all. Richard Ronsisvalle travels throughout the United States and into many nations
