Dagye - The 're-born' designer redefining luxury fashion

Dagye - The 're-born' designer redefining luxury fashion

For this episode we were joined by Dagye, the founder of luxury fashion brands A Day Without Angst (ADWOA) and Jeanius Bar Atelier. I have followed Dagye's journey in fashion for nearly 10 years now, so to finally be able to sit down with him was an honour and a full circle moment. I first came across Dagye through seeing his bespoke denim pieces on my favourite artists Young Thug and Future in the mid-2010's. I remember the feeling of shock when discovering that the designer of these jeans was a German-born Ghanaian guy from Milton Keynes who hadn't studied fashion. How did he beat the odds to end up in these spaces and be dressing some of the biggest artists on the planet!?! Since then Dagye has gone on to raise the bar and defy expectation year on year. His high fashion brand ADWOA has garnered attention and affinity from key people within culture and his other brand Jeanius Bar Atelier is slowly becoming the front runner in luxury streetwear! How has Dagye achieved all of this at such a young age? What does it take to build two thriving businesses simultaneously? Who has Dagye had to become to reach this point and how? This last question became the most pertinent theme of our conversation. Dagye eloquently broke down the experiences he's gone through in life, the fashion industry and ultimately the actions he had to take to grow as a result of these. This made for an incredible conversation that I believe any budding fashion professional needs to hear. This game isn't easy and to reach the pinnacle takes a lot of sacrifice, Dagye's story epitomises this. Alongside this, Dagye shared his thoughts on the streetwear scene, the importance of personal branding, sustainability, what makes designers great and much, much more! Since recording Dagye has continued to thrive! Jeanius just dropped their Cream Ottoman collection and the whole thing is fire! From the creative to the fits, Dagye doesn't miss! Follow Dagye and his brands on social to stay locked in to his ever-growing universe building journey. https://www.instagram.com/dagye_/ https://www.instagram.com/jeaniusbaratelier/https://www.instagram.com/adaywithoutangst/https://www.tiktok.com/@dagye.digital

Patrick Adjaye - The Relentless Entrepreneur Carving Out His Own Fashion Empire

Patrick Adjaye - The Relentless Entrepreneur Carving Out His Own Fashion Empire

In this episode, we’re joined by Patrick Adjaye, founder of the fashion hub DressCode Nation. This is an episode we’ve been eager to make happen for a number of reasons.First, Patrick brings years of experience in the fashion industry for us to tap into. Starting in fashion as a teenager and still thriving over a decade later, Patrick has insights we’re excited to learn from. Second, DressCode Nation has grown into an all-encompassing brand spanning digital and print media, a creative agency, and an apparel line! Building such a universe has taken years of dedication, and we’re thrilled to help him share the story of how he made it happen. Finally, having known Patrick for years, I know how passionate he is about helping others and positively impacting our fashion community—it's only right he comes on our pod to share those keys!Growing up in South London with Ghanaian parents, Patrick always had an interest in fashion but, like many, had to set it aside to pursue a more secure career in finance. Once there, however, he realized that his true fulfillment lay in fashion. After working in fashion retail for several years, Patrick saw a gap in the industry—a lack of connection between the emerging fashion scene and the creatives needed to bring ideas to life. And from this need, DressCode Nation was born.In the decade-plus since, Patrick has achieved incredible things with the DressCode Nation brand. Most recently, they launched their print magazine, with artist Unknown T as the first cover star!Throughout the episode, Patrick shares candidly about the hardships he’s faced along the way. Doors into fashion aren’t as open for a young Black man from a council estate in South London, so you can imagine the work it’s taken for Patrick to reach this point. But it’s not all doom and gloom—Patrick also talks joyfully about some of his biggest wins, including the launch of his apparel brand, DCNstores, and his personal journey into influencing.Since recording, Patrick and DressCode Nation have continued to thrive. Stay tuned for Patrick’s journey—it’s one you won’t want to miss!InstagramTikTok

Chris Figures - The community focused designer thriving on real life connection

Chris Figures - The community focused designer thriving on real life connection

For this episode we were joined by Chris Kutoya founder of Hackney based brand 1Figures. From when I became interested in fashion as a teen 1Figures was a brand I would hear about and see very often. Through iconic wears like their 'Nang girls only' hats or their 'I'm broke baby' pieces the brand quickly became one of the most culturally relevant in London. This was at a time where social media WAS NOT what we see today. Instagram wasn't a shop front, there was no tik-tok style apps for you to get a million eyes on your brand from one post. You really needed to do the work in real life, and Chris definitely did that. I know the work it's taken for Chris to get the brand to where it's at so it was an honour to finally sit down with him and talk through his journey. Being of Congolese descent fashion and style was something Chris was naturally always interested in. Couple this in with an entrepreneurial mindset it was only a matter of time before he started his own clothing line. With Chris being so passionate about his community, he endeavoured to create a brand that represents the beauty of where he's from. This is also something I admire about the brand and another topic we spoke about in-depth. Throughout the conversation Chris spoke candidly about the ups and the downs of running a brand and touched on pertinent topics including whether brands should have meaning, how to build a community around your brand and more. 1figures recently celebrated it's 10th anniversary so you know he had keys to share for daysssssss. Thank you to Chris for sharing his story with us. Follow Chris and 1Figures to stay locked into his journey.

Thread Culture Blog - The curious pair cultivating raw fashion insights

Thread Culture Blog - The curious pair cultivating raw fashion insights

For this weeks episode we were joined by Kev and Rajan, the co-founders of fashion content hub Thread Culture Blog. If you haven't heard of the pair, you should really get to know! They create content that leverages fashion insight from your favourite fashion influencers alongside the everyday fashion enthusiast. The main way they do this is via their street interview content. Despite having only started the blog a few years ago they. have already managed to amass a following of over 100k across both Instagram and TikTok. However their journey of course did not just start with the blog. Hailing from North West London, the pair have been friends since secondary school and have always been interested in fashion. Like many of the people you see on this podcast, they were inspired by the likes of ASAP Rocky and were fans of brands like Stussy and Supreme. This interest coupled in with a desire to make money led them to start their own clothing line - This was the actually beginning of Thread Culture Blog and the rest is history.Given their nature of what the pair do, they've acquired a wealth of knowledge that can be beneficial to brand owners and those interested in fashion so it was this that formed the basis of the conversation. We discussed everything from what brands people on the streets are wearing the most,  why people choose to wear particular brands, what it takes to be a fashion content creator and much, much more! The pair shared gems throughout and we had a real laugh whilst we were at it! The lads brought the energy and I'm sure this will be an enjoyable watch/listen for all of you! Since recording the pair have continued to drop great content and we've also soon them do a couple collaborations with stores including BSTn in Brixton! But whatever it will be I'm sure it will be LIT so make sure you follow them up now on Instagram, TikTok and stay locked into their journey!

UK streetwear brands to look out for in 2024 - Bastin Nazário

UK streetwear brands to look out for in 2024 - Bastin Nazário

Yes we know it’s March but we still have most of the year left and we want to make sure that you spend this year locked into the best streetwear brands the country has to offer! As the days go by and I grow older and older I’m struggling to keep up with what’s going on in the streetwear scene! So I enlisted the help of none other than Bastin Nazário also known as cfabastin. Many of you would have seen his viral TikTok/reels series from the back end of last year where he put the people on to the streetwear brands he feels deserve a spotlight and extra recognition. Despite Bastin’s videos being super informative and engaging, there’s only so much information you can get across in a 1m 30s reel so I thought let’s bring him onto the platform and give him the room to really go into depth about why he chose the brands he chose! Watch/listen now to hear what brands Bastin is feeling the most and more importantly WHY. Bastin is a true streetwear enthusiast and journalist so his insight is one filled with gems that will really impact your approach to fashion. Follow Bastin now to stay in the know about what's going on in the streetwear scene! Enjoy the episode!

Mr FullyPaid - The East Ender who turned £500 into a successful streetwear brand

Mr FullyPaid - The East Ender who turned £500 into a successful streetwear brand

For this episode we were joined by Mr FullyPaid (FP),  Co-Founder of streetwear brand FullyPaid.Raised in East London to Ghanaian parents, FP had no intention to make the foray into fashion, it was instead football that took all of his time and effort. However after being released by AFC Wimbledon in his mid-teens, he saw himself at a crossroads. With not much going on for himself at the time FP's cousin came to him with the idea of starting a brand, it is here where FullyPaid was born. Nearly 7 years down the line FullyPaid has gone from a local hackney based clothing-line to a global streetwear brand. This is no fluke and is testament to the hard work FP and his team have put in to constantly develop the brand. Throughout the episode FP shares the story of how the brand got to where it is now. He tells the story behind many of the brands most significant moments such as it's collaboration with the viral Spain based brand Trikko, their collaboration with the original TopBoy and cultural icon that is Ashley Walters, the role they played in the viral drill hits from Hazey and Benzz, and much, much more. In a relatively short space of time we've seen the brand continually evolve. Right now the brand is in the midst of another evolution as it slowly transitions into a more luxury streetwear brand. If you haven't seen their FullyPaid dreams collection make sure you check it out its cold! FP shares why this transition is happening and also whether the risk has paid off!One thing that stood out to me in this episode was FP's transparency. Over the few years of knowing each other I've seen how willing FP is to share the many keys he's learnt from his time in fashion, largely due to the fact that he himself had no clue about this industry once up a time. As a result this episode is littered with gems on how to build a successful brand including how to build a functioning team, how to best market your brand, how to build the right connections and much more. Fully Paid have started the year in great form, with their Fully Paid dreams collection continuing to garner global attention with it being seeing on several musicians and NBA superstars including none of other than the living legend Bobby Shmurda and Brooklyn nets star Dennis Smith Jr. Make sure you stay locked in, they're due to have a BIG year.  Follow Mr Fully Paid's Instagram now to see how turns Fully Paid dreams into reality and follow the FullyPaid brand page to keep up to date with their latest drops!

Arif Ferdous - The driven designer bringing love and positivity into the streetwear scene

Arif Ferdous - The driven designer bringing love and positivity into the streetwear scene

For this episode we were joined by Arif Ferdous founder of the eponymous streetwear brand.I've been following Arif and the brand for some time now and I've seen progression in every drop! I think now was the best time to get Arif on the pod as the brand is in a place where it has several recognisable pieces and has firmly positioned itself as one of the frontrunners in the British luxury streetwear space. Born to Bengali parents and growing up in Essex, Arif has always been influenced by different styles. Inspired by Kanye West and ASAP Rocky, Arif knew from early on that he wanted to design clothes but more importantly knew that he wanted to share pertinent messages through the means of fashion. This is something that is key feature of the brand today. Alongside it being known for it's elegant but edgy aesthetic, Arif Ferdous has also become closely associated to themes of love and unity. Throughout the episode Arif candidly breaks down how him and his business partner Chad have been able to build such a brand in a relatively short space of time as well as why their meaning of the brand is so important to them. We spoke in depth about Arif's transparency concerning his personal brand as this is something that adds so much to the perception of the brand from my perspective. Since recording Arif Ferdous has continued to go from strength to strength. The brand page recently hit 15k followers on instagram which is testament to the steady growth of the brand and the loyal following they're building. Arif has teased some of the new pieces they'll be dropping soon and it's safe to say that they're due to have a huge 2024. Follow Arif's instagram to stay locked into his brand building journey. Make sure to follow his tiktok too! You'll learn a lot. Don't forget to follow the Arif Ferdous brand page to stay up to date with their latest drops! Big drip coming soon!

Kobbi Banks - The young designer relentlessly pushing creative boundaries

Kobbi Banks - The young designer relentlessly pushing creative boundaries

For this episode we were joined by Kobbi Banks  Founder of streetwear brand Bywave.4TF! Ever since our paths crossed early last year, I've been tracking the growth of Kobbi and his brand. In what has been a relatively short space of time Kobbi has done a number of things which I felt we needed to discuss! Despite only being 3 years into his fashion journey he has already released a number of innovative pieces and a couple creative fashion films so now was definitely the right time for us to chop it up! Born to Ghanaian parents and growing up in a predominately white area in Essex, Kobbi has always felt different. Such a difference could lead to one wanting to conform or in Kobbi's case, doing the work needed to discover who you truly are and carving your own lane. This sense of individualism is something that speaks through the Bywave.4TF brand ultimately garnering a cult-like following of like-minded young people. Despite not always knowing of his creative abilities due to his more academic nature, Kobbi didn't start designing until he was in university. It is here where Kobbi fell in love with fashion and began to study the greats such as Virgil Abloh and Rick Owen. Kobbi shares how it is this curiosity coupled in with his studious nature that has enabled him to build such a thriving brand in such a short space of time. Throughout the conversation Kobbi shares what the Bywave.4TF brand represents, what has gone into building it and his hopes for the future. We touched on many topics that I felt we needed to discuss such as Kobbi's ability to try knew things and his bravery in putting his brand out there. Since recording Kobbi has continued to build his brand and is in the process of launching his next collection. He recently announced the launch of the 4TF Knight puffer, a piece that I think will go down as one of his most innovative and successful to date! For this episode we were joined by Nate Spiteri,  Founder of streetwear brand Three Thousand Clothing.Hailing from Melbourne Australia, Nate had always been a streetwear enthusiast. Growing up he gravitated towards brands like Stussy and Supreme and it's this love that led to him starting his first brand with two of his childhood friends whilst at university. Nate himself admits that they didn't really know what they were doing at first but still managed to turn over $10,000 Australian dollars in sales which is very impressive considering the fact that the Melbourne streetwear scene was small and definitely not as prominent as the likes of New York and London. Although Nates first brand eventually came to an end, it is here where Nate discovered how much he truly wanted to be successful in fashion. Enter Three Thousand Clothing! Nate decide to leave Melbourne and head over to London to build the brand as he felt this would be easier due to the vibrance and opportunity within the UK streetwear scene. Alizé Demange - The stylist who never took no for an answer

Alizé Demange - The stylist who never took no for an answer

For this episode we were joined by the wonderful Alizé Demange, Stylist and Founder of A-D Creative. Alizé has been a mainstay in the U.K styling scene for a while now and has an incredible story to tell. Alizé's story has been laced with setbacks but she has never let these stop her which is why she is in the position she is in today. Her talent and perseverance has led to her styling the likes of Wstrn, Jorja Smith, Maya Mama and many more of the country's biggest talent! However, styling wasn't always part of the plan, it was actually fashion design that first peaked Alizé's interest. However due to some experiences that she shares in the episode, Alizé realised that she was much better suited to and more passionate about styling! Since this discovery, she has never looked back and years later has built up an incredible portfolio of work which spans across editorial, e-commerce, personal and more! Throughout the episode Alizé candidly shares how long it took her to get to the position she's in and the sacrifices she made in order to do so. Her path was in no means linear and despite several setbacks and thoughts of quiting Alizé pushed through and is now successful and very well respected in the fashion scene. What I loved most about this episode is how it showed that in Alizé being forced to take a real unconventional approach to break into the fashion industry, she no longer feels restricted by peoples perceptions or labels. This approach has led to Alizé also being a fashion influencer herself aswell as starting a number of initiatives which have supported young people to break into the industry! For this episode we were joined by FD From The Future,  content creator, presenter and designer! Many of you would have first come across FD from the work he did with fashion platform Culted, interviewing people outside the Stitch pop up in Soho, however FD's journey most definitely did not start there! Hailing from Crawley, Fabio Dessena, found himself interested in fashion, streetwear culture and hip-hop from an early age, brands like Bape and Supreme were a must have for FD and artists like Schoolboy Q and Mac Miller were people he looked up to. Such a passion led to FD aiming to have a career in the creative field and rapping became his first way in.Whilst trying to become a well known rapper, FD found himself modelling and eventually getting signed to Storm, one of the most well-know modelling agency's in the country. Benjamin Kyei - The Virgil Abloh inspired designer injecting his youthful flair into luxury streetwear

Benjamin Kyei - The Virgil Abloh inspired designer injecting his youthful flair into luxury streetwear

For this episode we were joined by Benjamin Kyei,  Founder of luxury streetwear brand Gosse Au Coeur! Benjamin is somebody I've wanted on the podcast from when we first launched a few years back so I'm super happy that we were able to make it happen. His brand is a true  illustration of his refined design skills and incredible taste level so it was definitely only a matter of time before we chopped it up. Born in East London to Ghanaian parents who quickly realised that their son was a talented artist and also very in love with fashion, Benjamin's parent encouraged him to study art at Uni however he opted to follow his love for entrepreneurship and chose to study International business instead. It is during his studies where Benjamin started his first brand code nation with two of his closest friends. Although the lads chose to fold the brand, it is here where he learned many of the skills he now uses to run his current brand Gosse Au Coeur. Being a huge fan of the late designer Virgil Abloh, it was only a matter of time before Benjamin launched his own brand and in 2017 Gosse Au Coeur was born! Translating to Kid at Heart in French, Benjamin aims to use fashion as the conduit to tell stories from his childhood and illustrate the pure, curious and positive essence of children. Benjamin candidly shares anecdotes of what led him to where he is now, including his many nights 'studying' the rails in Selfridges, his time interning for Oswald Boateng and more.Throughout the conversation Benjamin shares the main reasons he decided to start a brand with such a powerful message, how he learned to design/run a brand, how he uses colour in his work despite being colour blind and much, much more. Since recording Benjamin has continued to grow as a designer and is about to launch his new collection - 'Life is beautiful'. He recently hosted a launch event for the collection which I had the pleasure of attending, the collection is sensational, both designs/quality are 10/10. Follow Benjamin's instagram to stay locked into his journey and take in his incredible drip. Join the Gosse Au Coeur community now!

Josh Coker - The Christian Designer finally ready to take the leap of faith

For this episode we were joined by Mr Mysterious, Josh Coker, Founder of streetwear brand SWAMP. Josh prefers to be behind the scenes in favour of letting his designs do the talking, but thank God he made an exception for us because this episode has keys for dayssssss.Josh is a Christian who tells uplifting biblical inspired stories through his arguably gothic presenting brand SWAMP. Sound like a bit of a juxtaposition right? It is when you take the brand off of face value, but after listening to this episode you'll definitely understand more about the brand and I'm sure you'll be endeared to it too! The brand name stands for Society Will Always Manipulate People, Josh shares why the brand has such a strong message and how this translates through his designs. Unlike many, a love for fashion wasn't Josh's reason for starting a brand, it was in fact his desire to tell stories with streetwear just being the medium he chose to do this. Josh even considers himself an author rather than a designer, so I'm sure we'll see him telling narratives in different ways in the future. Josh's interesting and often quite dark designs are inspired by things he's battled with in his life such as the fear of failure. Throughout the conversation Josh takes us through his whole journey so far and what has led him to the point of being ready to his currently successful brand to the greater heights he KNOWS it is destined to reach. He candidly shares the mistakes his made, the opportunities he's passed up on and most importantly what he has learned on his journey so far. Since recording Josh has continued to drop meaningful pieces and push the limits of design! His latest collection is dropping on the 26th of February! Follow Josh's Instagram to keep up to date with his personal growth alongside the growth of SWAMP.
