George Catlin was an American painter, author, and traveler, who specialized in portraits of Native Americans in the American frontier. Many of the places he traveled through are parts of our National Park Service today. Grant Wood was a master metal craftsman, jeweler, teacher, interior decorator, and a fine artist both celebrated and reviled during his lifetime. The turning point in his art life came when he exhibited “American Gothic” at the 1930 Chicago Art Institute Exhibition where it won a medal and was purchased by the Art Institute. Artist Victoria Chick - The Origins of Celtic Art
The roots of Celtic Art are very old yet can still be seen to influence the arts of calligraphy and jewelry today. The motifs and decorative patterns related to what we call Celtic Art can be found in a wide geographic area from the New Grange tomb in Ireland dating from 3300 B.C. (pre-dating the Great Pyramids of Egypt) to the Scythian art found as far east as Siberia dating from the 7th century B.C., and in nearly every European country in between. Exceptions are those countries along the Mediterranean coast where the influences of Classical civilization were strong.

Portraits of US Presidents

Exploring Thomas Hart Benton Country
Regionalist painter, lithographer, and muralist Thomas Hart Benton (1889 -1975) was a son of Missouri, and, although he studied modern art trends in Europe, spent years in New York, and was the first artist to have his picture on the cover of Time Magazine, he moved back to Missouri and made his mark on it with murals across the State and by influencing young artists through his teaching.
