Hi There! I'm back with Season 2 of the Work On Purpose Podcast! It's also the 1st anniversary of this podcast and I'm so proud of myself and so full of gratitude for you my dear listener. My little hiatus was a bit longer than I anticipated, but I needed it. And as you can imagine, I've been doing a lot of introspection, reflection and planning for the future! You see, it’s my birthday today and this year, I realized that perhaps I need to get more intentional, more serious about my life’s mission. In having several conversations with women over the past few months, I’m realizing that while many of them do have dreams for their life, they feel stuck. Stuck in a rut of their current lives. Stuck not knowing how to move forward Stuck under the weight of bad habits they can’t seem to shake And so, I thought I’d help where I can. I recorded a mini audio training called Breaking Bad Habits and even though it’s my birthday, consider it my gift to you! So, if you’re struggling to break any bad habits in your life, habits that may be preventing you from living your best life, please don’t waste another minute. Download this free training TODAY! Rejection

Rejection

According to researchers and psychologists, belonging or relatedness or connectedness is considered a human need for effective functioning. Yet, even with all this love and connection with our family and friends, because the human need for belonging is so strong, the moment we experience any form of rejection, even if it’s not from anyone close to us, it can cut as sharp as a knife. Because let's face it. Rejection sucks. In this podcast episode, we discuss four key ways to help us deal with rejection, when we're at its mercy. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know what you learned and if it was helpful in giving you a better perspective to process rejection when it strikes. Build A Barrier

Build A Barrier

Have you ever gotten into a discussion with someone, only to have it escalate into something you weren’t expecting? Someone may be upset and yell at you for something that wasn’t warranted. Or worse, they could be completely irrational taking their frustrations out on you when you did nothing wrong. What can you do in cases like these? In my mind… Build a barrier. In this podcast episode, we discuss this idea of building a barrier. When people take their frustrations out on you, you can retaliate or you can build a barrier and treat them with empathy and undertanding. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know what you learned and how you plan to start building a barrier in your life. Taking Initiative

Taking the initiative. Have you heard this phrase before? It’s high on the list of desirables for any hiring manager. When a new employee starts on the job, the manager wants to know and see that they're ready, willing and able to take the initiative. But what does it really mean, to take the initiative? In this podcast episode, we discuss this all important quality of taking initiative. It's a highly sought after characteristic in new and existing employees, by most employers. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know what you learned and how you plan to start taking initiative in your work and life. Pursuing Happiness

Pursuing Happiness

We seem to have a preoccupation with happiness in our culture. We seek it, wish for it, want it for our children above all else and yet it’s one of the most seemingly elusive things in this life. But perhaps we have the wrong approach. What if happiness was not something to be pursued at all? What if happiness was a by-product of something else and if we pursued that thing, we would get the happiness we so desperately crave? In this podcast episode, we discuss happiness, the pursuit of it and the elusiveness of it. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know what you thought about the concepts I presented in this episode on happiness and how you plan to implement them in your life today! SMART Goals - It's Not What You Think!

SMART Goals - It's Not What You Think!

We’ve all heard about SMART goals. It’s the way most people have been taught to set and achieve their goals. This is the traditional approach for goal setting, but for me, it omits the reckless abandon of limitless goals.  It doesn’t leave room for your BHAG – your Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals. I’m all about being practical in some areas of life, but I just don’t think that our life goals should be too practical. If it is, then where’s the fun of dreaming? If you can accomplish everything by yourself, then you don’t need your supernatural overwhelmingly abundant God. In this podcast episode, we discuss a different way of setting goals, my own version of SMART goals. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know how you are applying these SMART Goals steps to achieve your BHAG goals. Learn From History

Learn From History

There's an old quote that goes soemthinglike this, “Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” We all experience various events in life. We make choices that lead to consequences or outcomes that we may or may not like. Think about your life. Think about decisions you’ve made that resulted in a negative outcome. If you didn’t recognize what happened, took the time to explore what you could have done differently and acknowledged your role in it, then you probably didn’t learn much from it. In this podcast episode, we discuss the importance of learning from our personal histories so that we don't keep making the same mistakes over and over again. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know if you did a life audit on your past mistakes and what you learned that you'll use to make better decisions going forward. Our lives are a result of the choices that we make. Every decision has an outcome, a consequence. Some are more impactful than others, but we all have to live with them in the end. In this podcast episode, we discuss the importance of making good decisions and four key concepts you should implement whenever you are faced with an important decision. This Too Shall Pass!

Our lives are filled with joys, heartaches, fulfillment and sadness. We struggle at times and have moments of ease in other times. Name Dropping

Name Dropping

Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s not who you know, it’s who knows you”? It is more significant than you know. When we're young, we think that it’s impressive to name-drop and let others know who we know as a measure of our significance. What we don’t realize when we’re younger, is that it doesn’t matter who we met, had coffee with or who we think we know. In this podcast episode, we discuss the importance of genuine connections, allowing your work to speak for itself and reaping the benefits of people talking behind your back (in a good way, of course). After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know how you plan to strengthen the relationships in your life so you can have true, lasting connections. Sowing and Reaping

Sowing and Reaping

Sowing and reaping is a universal principle that exists in our world. Most people will not dispute that. When you sow a seed, it will grow into a plant or tree, which will have some kind of fruit on it that can be reaped and sowed again. And so, the process repeats itself. In this podcast episode, we discuss the principle of sowing and reaping and the three concepts you need to understand so you can take full advantage of its rewards. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know what you learned and the steps you plan to implement in your life in accordance with this principle. Too Big!

Too Big!

At some point in our lives, possibly even multiple times, we may encounter some opportunity, some challenge or some fork in the road that presents us with something that’s too big for us. We may feel uncomfortable, out of place, self-conscious and quite likely a fair amount of fear. I’d like to suggest though, that we lean into these “too big for me” situations. In this podcast episode, we discuss that feeling of "too bigness" that can sometimes cause us to shrink back in fear and not pursue to BIG dreams of our hearts. The Magic Of Kaizen!

The Magic Of Kaizen!

When we look at successful people, whether they be world leaders, pioneers, athletes, artists or even leaders in our field to whom we look up, we think that they've done such great things and we want to be just like them. We want to have careers and legacies like theirs but because we weren’t with them in the trenches we can only see their shining glory moments. We think that it “just happened” for them and in turn, we hold the expectation that it will one day “just happen” for us as well. But it didn't and it won't. In this podcast episode, we discuss the concept of Kaizen and how you can use it to achieve the BIG dreams and goals and plans and lofty ambitions you have for your life. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know how you plan to incorporate Kaizen in your life so you too can live the life of purpose and impact that God has for you. The Waiting Game

The Waiting Game

There's a little-known virtue that many of us wished others had, not acknowledging that we could use a little bit of it ourselves. That virtue is patience.  It seems that with the all the advances in technology in our world today, we have less and less tolerance to wait on just about anything. We want what we want when we want it and how we want it. In this podcast episode, we discuss our irritability in waiting and how, if we change our perspective a bit, we might be able to use all the times of waiting to our advantage. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know if this episode has changed your perspective on waiting and the things you are now able to do whenever you have to wait. What's Your X-Factor?

What is your X-factor? You know that thing about you that makes you special, different, unique. The thing about you that's not like anyone else on planet earth. Someone Is Always Watching!

This “job” of being a role model is not one to be taken lightly. The power that comes with the ability to influence the thoughts, words and actions of another human being is monumental. Like the saying goes, “with great power comes great responsibility.”  We cannot assume that because we didn’t ask to be a role model that that means we don’t still have a responsibility to be mindful of those whom we influence. In this podcast episode, we discuss the importance of our behavior on the impressional eyes watching us and the four characteristics we can implement to be a good role model. FEAR

FEAR

I read somewhere that we're only born with the fear of two things, loud noises and falling. All the other fears we experience in life are psychological, meaning they're imagined fears. Many people think the opposite of fear is faith. It is not. In fact, fear and faith are both simply your belief about a thing. Faith is belief in something positive and good. And fear is the belief in something negative or bad.  In this podcast episode, we discuss the issue of fear in our lives and the single greatest tool you can use to radically eliminate fear from your life. Knowledge Is NOT Power!

I’m a strong supporter of lifelong learning, growth and development. I believe the more you know, the more you realize how much you don’t know. It’s interesting, many people think knowledge is power. But that is incorrect. It’s the application of knowledge that gives you power. In this podcast episode, we discuss the importance of learning not just for the sake of consumption, but rather for implementation, with the goal of mastery. That's Not Fair!

That's Not Fair!

We learn from a very early age to expect that life is supposed to be fair. But life is anything but fair. So, how do we deal with things when we’re on the short end of the stick? When we feel as though we’ve been mistreated, misjudged or things didn’t go the way we believe they should have? In this podcast episode, we discuss the concept of fairness. Life isn't about what's fair as much as it's about what's just. Who Are You Becoming?

When we start out in life, or when we're starting over, we have a vague idea of what we want to accomplish.  We might be unhappy with where we are or even with who we’ve become and we realize that this is not the life we want for ourselves and so, we set out to change it. The challenge, whether we’re just starting out or starting over, is that we don’t know what we don’t know. Challenges can be fun! We all have different areas in which we want to grow, to improve, to come up a little higher and I think a challenge is one of the best ways to do this. Yes, a challenge is a mighty thing. But it will give you the reminder that you need that you can do hard things. That you don't have to succumb to the human nature and just go with the flow.  Remember when you go with the flow, the only place you end up is downstream.  In this podcast episode, we discuss the benefits of giving yourself a good challenge as a means to help you achieve a short term goal. React or Respond?

React or Respond?

When the heat gets turned up and you find yourself in an adverse situation, do you react or respond? There’s a very important distinction between these two words. One, that if mastered, will save you much stress and worries, while increasing your peace and calm. A reaction is something instantaneous. It’s an immediate action taken after something happens, driven almost entirely by emotions. In this podcast episode, we discuss the difference between reacting and responding.  After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know your thoughts about this episode and what steps you plan to take to lean into responding instead of reacting, when the fire gets turned up! Coping

The field of positive psychology has opened us up to a side of psychology, where we focus on our strengths rather than on what ails. In this podcast episode, we discuss coping and practical coping mechanisms we can use to help us deal with stress, anxiety and other adverse situations in our lives.  After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know your thoughts about this episode and how you plan to start looking for that seed of equal or great benefit, the next time adversity strikes! Adversity

Adversity

One of my favorite quotes is by Think and Grow Rich author, Napoleon Hill. It goes something like this, “Every adversity or failure or heartbreak carries the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” I love this quote so much because it’s all about attitude. When something happens that’s bad, unfortunate, sad or frustrating or really, anything that you perceive as being a negative situation, what is your response to it?  You can see it for what it appears to be on the surface, but if you would take a little time and let it simmer a bit, you just may find that seed that Napoleon Hill speaks of. In this podcast episode, we discuss adversity and our response to it. No Response Necessary

No Response Necessary

As i've grown older, I've learned that I don’t have to respond to every rude person I encounter. People are going to be people. They have all sorts of things going on in their lives. Some of them are not as enlightened as we all hope to be and so maybe they are living off their emotions. When something happens that is beyond their ability to master, they are left at the mercy of their unregulated emotions. But I don’t have to play their game. I get to choose how, when and if I will respond to them and their antics. I get to determine how I show up in the world and sometimes that is a person who knows about restraint and is willing to be meek in a moment when righteous indignation is rearing its ugly head. In this podcast episode we discuss a little about regulating one's emotions and how sometimes, no response is necessary. Expectations

Expectations

There’s a credo in the service industry that goes like this: Under promise and over deliver. It’s ultimately a concept that helps to set an appropriate level of expectation and subsequently ensuring that that expectation is exceeded.  Expectation is an interesting phenomenon. Two people can experience the same event, each with a different expectation level and their perspectives will be drastically different. Why? Because the expectation about that event beforehand was different and so the perspective is different. In this podcast episode we discuss how to set your own expectations with your family and friends, on the job and with yourself. Who Knows You?

Who Knows You?

Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s not who you know, it’s who knows you”? It’s more significant than you know. You see, when we’re young, we think that it’s impressive to name-drop; to let others know who we know, as a measure of our significance. Name-dropping might impress your friends, but it won’t advance your career, or provide openings you could never create or strategically put you in places you could never get to on your own. In this podcast episode we discuss the importance of who knows you, rather than being impressed with who you know. Bloom Where You're Planted

Bloom Where You're Planted

Bloom where you’re planted. Have you ever heard this phrase? It’s a pretty popular saying, basically to remind people that they can and should let their light shine wherever it is that they find themselves. That phrase is really about excellence, about using your gifts no matter where you are and about being the best you now, where you are, on your way to where you’re going. In this podcast episode we discuss why it's important to not despise the day of small beginnings and how you can enjoy the journey to your purpose, even if you don't like where you are right now. Being Childlike

Being Childlike

We intellectually know that we cannot be any younger than we are. In fact, each day that goes by makes us one day older. But many of us do things that help to give us a younger appearance, or if we're in our 40s-50s we may even do things to make us feel younger (read: mid-life crisis behaviors). None of these things truly work of course, but I wonder if perhaps we could try adding some other childlike behaviors that could be beneficial to us, to our physical, mental/emotional and even our spiritual health. In this podcast episode we discuss three simple things that children innately do, that if we incorporated them into our lives, we just might have less stress, more joy and a life more fulfilling than we ever thought possible. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know your thoughts about this episode and how you plan to adopt some of these simple childlike behaviors. The Impact of Your Environment

The Impact of Your Environment

There are many factors that go into goal achievement and yes, some of them start with proper goal setting. But there is one specific factor, that many people overlook on their journey to achievement. I sometimes refer to it as a silent disrupter because of how harmless it can be, at least in the beginning. It’s your environment. In this podcast episode we discuss the impact of your environment on you and on your ability to achieve your goals and dreams. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know your thoughts and how you plan to "clean up" your environment so you can become unstoppable! The Comfort Zone

The Comfort Zone

The Comfort Zone. It should be called the "don't go anywhere good in life" zone. I tell you comfort is 100% the enemy of your greatness. Anything worthwhile achieving is going to cause discomfort or even outright pain. There is no avoiding it, it is guaranteed. But it is oh so worth it! In this podcast episode we discuss why it's so important to get out of your Comfort Zone and pursue the things that are truly on your heart to do. After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know your thoughts and what results you had when you finally decided to step out and leave your comfort zone behind.
