Hold Me Down: A Musical Journey Into the BDSM Scene ft. Jackie Yangyuen
Von and Jackie discuss the BDSM and kink scene, as well as Jackie's one-woman musical, Hold Me Down. They talk about how to get involved in the scene, including attending classes and munches (casual hangouts). They also clarify the definitions of BDSM, kinks, and fetishes. Jackie explains that BDSM is about power dynamics and can involve pain and pleasure, while kinks are personal preferences that turn someone on. They also touch on the misconceptions surrounding BDSM, such as the portrayal in 50 Shades of Grey. They discuss the importance of communication, negotiation, and consent in BDSM, as well as the use of safe words. They also explore different aspects of BDSM, including role-playing, rope bondage (Shibari), and the variety of outfits and costumes in the scene. Jackie shares their experiences in the BDSM and kink scene, including the attire, etiquette, and purpose of dungeons. They explain that dungeons are community spaces where people can engage in BDSM play in a safe and consensual environment. Jackie also discusses their journey of finding freedom through bondage and overcoming shame and trauma. They turned their experiences into a musical called Hold Me Down, which incorporates dance, stand-up comedy, emotional storytelling, and original songs. The show is part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival and will have five performances in June.Chapters:(00:00) Introduction and Rehearsals for Hold Me Down(02:23) Curiosity about BDSM and Kinks(05:19) Explaining BDSM and Kinks(08:36) Misconceptions and Representation of BDSM(12:20) Power Dynamics and Safe Words(13:54) Role Play and Different Dynamics(15:53) Shibari: Japanese Rope Bondage(22:08) Etiquette and Entry into the BDSM Community(23:35) Exploring BDSM and Kink (31:03) Different Rules at Play Parties(36:20) Finding Freedom Through Bondage(41:10)From Songs to a One-Woman Show(46:54) The Challenges of Rehearsing and Producing(51:54) Getting Involved in the BDSM Scene(53:35) Attending Classes and Munches(54:05) Coordinating Play Parties(55:05) Using FetLife to Connect (56:08) Being Cautious of CreepersHold Me Down Info & Tickets hereShe was tangled up in shame and expectations of what everyone else wanted her to be.Through bondage, she found freedom.A one woman autobiographical musical as told by Jackie Yangyuen (she/they) – a queer and Asian American songwriter, actor, and kinky human. There will be an extra 30 min Q&A segment after the 6/22 performance!Location: 5636 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038Dates: Sun June 09, 5:30 PMSat June 15, 7:30 PMMon June 17, 8:30 PMSat June 22, 10:00 PMSun June 30, 2:30 PM
