Queer History is American History and the tales of safe places where all can feel seen is often not told, but thanks to Marc Saltarelli- this story is!

Ep 277- New Musical "Lifeline" Comes To NY & The Album Is Out!
Center Stage Records announced today the release of the concept recording of LIFELINE, the new musical written by Becky Hope-Palmer with music and lyrics by Robin Hiley. The recording features performances by Aaron Lazar, Arielle Jacobs, Nathan Salstone, Jay Armstrong Johnson, and Mia Gerachis. The album is available Friday, July 26, 204 at www.CenterStageRecords.com and at all digital outlets. It can be pre-saved now at https://orcd.co/lifelineconcept.
The musical Lifeline, written by Becky Hope-Palmer with music and lyrics by Robin Hiley, takes audiences on a captivating journey into the life of Alexander Fleming, the Scottish scientist whose discovery of penicillin revolutionized medicine. Beginning in 1928, the story unfolds as Fleming stumbles upon a mold that would change the course of history. Featuring a Scottish folk-influenced score, the musical brings to life the struggles, triumphs, and impact of this groundbreaking scientific achievement.
Lifeline goes beyond the historical narrative of Alexander Fleming's discovery of penicillin. The musical weaves together two parallel stories, intertwining Fleming's journey with that of Jess, a present-day doctor. Jess' childhood sweetheart, Aaron, is battling cancer, adding an emotional layer to the narrative. The audience witnesses Aaron's desperate desire to resume a normal life and rekindle their romance, all while his fate hangs in the balance. The musical delves into the timeless themes of hope, resilience, and the human spirit.
Featuring an all-star cast including Drama Desk Award nominee Aaron Lazar (The Last Ship), Arielle Jacobs (Here Lies Love), Nathan Salstone (Sweeney Todd), Drama Desk winner Jay Armstrong Johnson (Parade), Mia Gerachis (Pretty Woman), as well as original cast members Richard Lounds, Sarah Haddath, Graham Richardson, Steph Strachan, Rhian Ferrigan and Jess Barker.
It also features an international chorus of real-life scientists and healthcare professionals, from previous touring casts to Scotland, Atlanta and Washington DC, who work every day with the global health threat of antibiotic resistance, which the musical centers around.
Previously entitled The Mould that Changed the World, the musical is a two-time Edinburgh Festival Fringe sell-out (2018 and 2022) and has toured to London, Glasgow, Atlanta and Washington DC (2022), and will enjoy an Off-Broadway run in August and September 2024. The concept album is produced by Robin Hiley. For more information, visit www.lifelinemusical.com.

Ep 273- Writers of "Grumpy Old Men: The Musical" Neil Berg & Dan Remmes Are Here!
We love new musicals! We love movies! We love "Grumpy Old Men!" We had the chance to chat with the book writer Dan Remmes & Composer Neil Berg! They have an all-star cast ready to go and the album is now streaming! Hear all about it!
Center Stage Records announced today the release of the world premiere recording of GRUMPY OLD MEN, the new musical by Dan Remmes, Neil Berg and Nick Meglin. The recording features performances by Ed Dixon, Mark Jacoby, Leslie Stevens, Sally Struthers and Hal Linden. The album is now available at www.CenterStageRecords.com and at all digital outlets.
GRUMPY OLD MEN is the story of two aging men, Max (Ed Dixon) and John (Mark Jacoby), neighbors who have been feuding for most of their lives. Invigorated by their shared affection for their new neighbor across the street, the beautiful, eccentric, and charming Ariel (Leslie Stevens), they face-off as romantic rivals until their hilarious shenanigans finally bring about a resolution to their long-standing differences. Based on the 1993 film, which starred Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, and Ann-Margret, this stage adaptation captures the lovably crotchety characters through twinkling humor, great songs, and the affectionate depiction of a small town that feels like home to everyone.GRUMPY OLD MEN is written by Dan Remmes (book),Neil Berg (music) and Nick Meglin (lyrics), adapted from the Warner Bros. motion picture written by Mark Steven Johnson. The world premiere recording of GRUMPY OLD MEN stars Ed Dixon, Mark Jacoby with Leslie Stevens, and features Sally Struthers and Hal Linden. Also appearing on the recording are Brenda Braxton, Doug Eskew, Kevin Massey, Laura Woyasz, John Battagliese, Blake Hammond, Eric Jon Mahlum, Kelly Methven, James Taylor Odom, Heather Jane Rolff, Brooke Singer and Christina Tompkins.
Dan Remmes (Book) Dan’s plays have been produced across the USA and UK and include Night Out, What Doesn't Kill Us, Bedlan, Three Tables, Things We Leave Behind, Leaving London, Delays, Friends Lovers and Fiances, and Close To Home. His writing has won multiple awards including the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship for Playwriting and Screenwriting and the 26th Annual Samuel French OOB Festival. He’s written and directed two short films (“George” and “Indiana Dad And The Quest For The Lost Tap Shoe”) and has three feature screenplays under development in collaboration with “Finding Neverland” producer Nellie Bellflower. He co-developed, co-wrote and performed in a web series parodying self-help gurus entitled “Mother Eve’s Secret Garden of Sensual Sisterhood” which ran for a season on Koldcast TV and is currently under option as a staged rock musical. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Anglo-American Mind The Gap Theatre headquartered in New York City. Coolest random career moment: Riding shotgun in a stunt car behind Harrison Ford in an Indiana Jones movie. www.DanRemmes.com @DanRemmes

Ep 266- Witches Get Your Hands UP! Comedian Tim Murrary Joins Us To Talk His New Tour!
Introducing Queerty nominated US comedian Tim Murray, who brings his spooky comedy hour ‘Witches’ back to North America starting this September. The show is a mix of stand up and original comedy songs about his favorite pop culture WITCHES! Murray is like a gay Bo Burnham, but painted green and doing drag! Click for tickets HERE
For fans who want to return for more witchy tomfoolery this fall Tim has added a delicious mix of new songs and stand-up you won’t want to miss and you may even witness some very special guests. Last year former (and one current) Elphabas Julia Murney, Eden Espinosa and Lissa DeGuzman popped into the sold-out Joe's Pub performance.
In ‘Witches’, Murray uses hilarious personal stories about growing up a closeted, yet feminine boy, who tried hard to pass as straight to avoid being burned at the stake. He will have you howling at the moon, cackling at his jokes, and crying (but hopefully not melting)
From ‘The Craft’ to ‘Wicked’ to the ‘Sanderson Sisters’ to ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ and Angelica Houston's ‘Grand High Witch,’ Murray celebrates famous sorceresses throughout herstory and uses their stories as a parallel to the queer witch hunt.
His songs include "I Wanna Be Witches" which is about pretending to be superheroes with straight boys growing up but turning all his characters into witches and "I Hate Kids" - where he highlights how he has felt like a 40-year-old-woman since he was 8 years old and has hated children since he was one himself! He also has a song called ‘Dr. Dillamond’s Lament’, in which the forgotten character from the musical Wicked reveals a deep secret in a show-stopping number.

Ep 261- Singer Rex Dean & Author Laura Pritchett Talk Changing The World With Art!
We love siblings, inspiration, and activism! Today's guests do it all and happen to be siblings!
‘Three Keys’ is the latest novel from Laura Pritchett. Newly widowed and unemployed, a woman in her mid-fifties sets off on a journey of trespassing and adventure through the American West and beyond in this witty, thought-provoking novel from the PEN USA Award–winning writer.
Pritchett had been using her brother Rex Dean’s song “Butterfly Girl” in the graduate courses she teaches on nature writing. “When my publisher started putting together a Q&A for book clubs and asked what songs the protagonist might be listening to on the road, I thought of songs like John Denver’s ‘Rocky Mountain High’ and Joni Mitchell’s ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ — and my brother’s song.”
Dean and Pritchett grew up with seven other siblings on a ranch in Colorado. Dean is very proud of his little sister’s success as a writer and activist.
“Butterfly Girl” is a song about environmental damage, and the legacy we are leaving for our children.
Dean hopes “Butterfly Girl” strikes a chord, and encourages people to see where real change will come from. “The real opportunity for saving the world is getting money out of politics, and accountability into business, so that our greedy, power hungry business leaders and politicians, who take bribes and make terrible decisions for everyone but themselves, are replaced by leaders who care.”
Laura Pritchett’s seventh novel, “Three Keys” is available wherever books are sold on July 16th. ‘Butterfly Girl’ is available on all major music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon. Dean has sung for Princess Grace, Leonard Berstein, Ella Fitzegerald, and at the Montreux Jazz Festival, and yet this is his first song in wide release. Dean is also a filmmaker and his first feature, ‘Space Baby and the Holy Grail’ is currently completing a festival circuit before seeking distribution.

Ep 255- Les Mis Star Nick Cartell Talks His Debut Album. Life On The Road, & How It All Fades Away!
CLUB44 RECORDS is pleased to announce that Broadway star Nick Cartell – currently starring as Jean Valjean on the national tour of Les Misérables – has released “It All Fades Away,” the new single from his upcoming album A Thousand Spotlights – today, Friday, June 28. The rousing love song was written by Jason Robert Brown for the musical The Bridges of Madison County. A Thousand Spotlights, featuring a delightfully diverse mix of Broadway standards and movie classics and boasting a full orchestra, will be available on CD and in streaming and digital platforms on Friday, July 26. A Thousand Spotlights is produced by Brian Eads and Wayne Haun, who also provide orchestrations, with Nick Cartell and Christine Cartell serving as executive producers. Pre-order or pre-save the album at c44.lnk.to/AThousandSpotlights
A Thousand Spotlights features beloved Disney classics that range from the 1950s (a lush “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” from Cinderella), to the 1980s (the jubilant “Why Should I Worry?” from Oliver & Company), and the 1990s (a tender “You’ll Be in My Heart,” from Tarzan, with a special guest appearance by Cartell’s young daughter). Other musical highlights include selections from the great American songbook (Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies”) and contemporary Hollywood (Pasek and Paul’s “Never Enough,” from The Greatest Showman). Musical theater is represented by a slyly swinging “On the Street Where You Live” from My Fair Lady, “Music of the Night” from The Phantom of the Opera, and the Les Misérables ballad “Bring Him Home,” which Cartell stops the show with every night.
Nick Cartell was seen on Broadway in Paramour, the first musical produced by Cirque Du Soleil, where he was a standby for and performed the three male lead roles. He also appeared in the musical Scandalous, written by NBC TV “Today” host Kathie Lee Gifford, and can be heard on the Original Broadway Cast Recording. Nick made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-nominated 2012 revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, understudying and performing the roles of Jesus Christ, Judas Iscariot and the High Priest Annas. He has also toured the U.S. and Canada in The Phantom of the Opera.
Nick has sung with the South Coast Symphony, the Phoenix Symphony and as a member of the critically acclaimed group The Broadway Boys. In March 2019, he performed his first solo show, Bringing It Home, to a sold-out room at 54 Below. A graduate of Arizona State University with a BFA in Theatre, Nick enjoyed a brief stint in Japan performing with a certain famous Mouse. While there he met his incredible wife, actress/singer Christine Cartell. Together, they produce Broadway Fights Ovarian Cancer, a benefit concert raising funds and awareness for Ovarian Cancer research. Nick and Christine's best collaboration to date is their little girl. Follow Nick on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for more updates and adventures.
We had a blast with this musical theatre superstar!

Ep 254- Vocalist Jeff Harnar Is Back WIth New Music, New Shows, & More!
JEFF HARNAR – Jeff Harnar Sings Sammy Cahn: The Second Time Around – on CD and digital formats on Friday, July 26. The acclaimed singer revisits his 2001 Sammy Cahn recording, long out-of-print: the original album has been remixed, reimagined and expanded upon, reflecting both Harnar’s desire to widen his perspective on the lauded lyricist’s work – new tracks feature special guest appearances by Grammy Award nominee Clint Holmes, the acclaimed vocal trio MOIPEI and Grammy Award winner Nicole Zuraitis – and his own growth as an artist and interpreter. The Second Time Around is currently available!
Harnar will celebrate the album with special concerts at New York’s 54 Below on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27. The album's special guests – Clint Holmes, MOIPEI, and Nicole Zuraitis – will appear on Saturday, July 27, while MOIPEI, Sally Mayes, and Eric Comstock will appear Friday, July 26. Harnar will also feature the Cahn program in London, England at The Pheasantry (9/13-14, 2024) and Boca Raton, FL, at the Adolph & Rose Levis JCC (1/22-23, 2025), with other tour dates to be announced.
By the numbers alone, Sammy Cahn was one of America’s greatest songwriters: the most Academy Awards for Best Song; nearly 100 tunes recorded by Frank Sinatra; the highest paid songwriter of his day. Working largely with composers Jule Styne and Jimmy Van Heusen, Cahn turned out lyrics that were by turns romantic, witty and punchy, with a touch of melancholy that touched the hearts of millions; songs such as “Come Fly with Me,” “All the Way,” “Call Me Irresponsible,” “Time After Time” and “I Fall in Love Too Easily” – all included here – became embedded in the fabric of the nation.

Ep 247- Playwright/Actor Domenica Feraud Talks Her New Play "someone spectacular" Coming To The Signature!
We love an up & coming playwright star here on "The Roundtable!" We have an up & coming star for you!
A native New Yorker by way of Ecuador, Domenica Feraud has been part of the city’s theatre landscape for over a decade, despite her young age. She wrote and starred in her 2019 breakout play, Rinse, Repeat which the New York Times in its Critic’s Pick review praised as “smart, compassionate, and angry.”
Domenica also called public attention to a certain movie star’s inappropriate behavior on the set of a certain Broadway musical revival in her viral essay “The Movie Star and Me.” Whether on stage or online, Domenica’s work is consistently brave and necessary.
Her sophomore play, someone spectacular, offers a fly-on-the-wall view of a grief support group. When their leader fails to show up for the weekly meeting, the group devolves into chaos, with each member examining their own haunting. Imbued with subtle suspense and surprising humor, someone spectacular brings a fresh edge to the therapy play while exploring grief with unflinching and authentic honesty.
Also of note, her director Tatiana Pandiani is Argentinian American, so two Latina creatives will be leading a production that also features a predominately female creative and producing team.
