 The Story Behind the Story

 The Story Behind the Story

Welcome back to another episode of The RV! We are headed to Wisconsin to speak to James Bastian. James is the author of the book Wisconsin Logging Camp 1921 which was published in 2015. The sequel entitled Willa’s Pursuit is coming out September 2022. The primary inspiration began with a 1936 newspaper account of three loggers in Rusk County, Wisconsin, purportedly finding a petrified body in a hollow tree they chopped down. This report intrigued me and started a decade long search of historical records, logging camp rosters, memoirs, letters, and other newspaper articles. While the original article was ultimately found to be a hoax made up by an enterprising editor, my investigation led to a wealth of information on logging, immigration, and an appreciation for the transformational events that occurred in the era of 1920 and again in 1970. Douglas Rappaport talks about his new book "Dead People".

Welcome back to another episode of The Relatable Voice! The RV is Virginia -bound to speak to Douglas Rappaport. Douglas is a classically-trained musician, former video game producer and author. His latest book, Dead People has just come out. Dead People is about that idea, imagining an alien race visiting the Earth long after humans inhabited it and recreating the world with a smattering of dead people from all different time periods. But by doing this, the aliens also accidentally bring back bad people (murderers, rapists, evil dictators) and need these bad people taken out of this new world. Hence they hire Mild McMahon, a former professional football player, now hitman, tasked with taking out these bad people in exchange for possibly bringing back his mother who wasn’t lucky enough to be reincarnated by this alien race.

Stories That Can Inspire A Younger Generation with the author Liam Jenkins

Stories That Can Inspire A Younger Generation with the author Liam Jenkins

"Many thousands of years ago, creatives were considered the most important people in the communities. Stories, songs, poems, and paintings were all considered sacred tools and moral compasses from which people learned and receive guidance. But the importance of creativity has been forgotten along with storytelling and it's important role within a community" -Liam Jenkins For ten years I have worked in a number of PR, communications and marketing agencies. With a selection of articles published in Insurance, IT & Health and Safety trade magazines. Writing for me is both a form of escapism and cathartisism, but greater than that I'm driven by the notion that my stories can inspire a younger generation. I believe that the world needs a new influx of modern day fairy stories; stories laced with peril, triumph and moral dilemmas. I also believe that with rise of technology and mass consumerisation, these stories are getting lost. Old fairy stories can seem to be outdated and un-relatable. That's how Dylan McFinn was created. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lucia-matuonto/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lucia-matuonto/support

A thrilling WESTERN mixed in with a tale of horror and adventure with J.S.Castro

A thrilling WESTERN mixed in with a tale of horror and adventure with J.S.Castro

J.S. began writing as a child to cope with his night terrors. Thus, began his love for creating short stories of horror, suspense, and adventure. As a junior in high school, his brother Fernando burrowed one of his stories to be turned into his English lit class. Mrs. Jaeger, Fernando’s teacher, was disturbed and mortified by what she read and submitted the story into a statewide contest. Fernando won! He received a plaque that said, “Future Authors of America,” one-hundred dollars in cash, and an interview with the local newspaper. When asked what inspired him to write about a kid who eats other kids in the neighborhood, he turned to J.S. and said, “My brother?” The reporter didn’t know whether to laugh or call the police.
